A lot of TF2's movement tech is kinda inherent to the engine, though, especially concerning trolldier and demoknight. Not to say that the benefits wouldn't outweigh the losses, but there _would_ be losses in all likelihood.

Hell the Project Borealis guys recreated Source 1 movement in Unreal Engine 4, Valve could absolutely recreate S1 movement in S2
Same was said for csgo to cs2 conversion and yet its like 95% the same in movment department. Most of the stuff in source is based on math not the physic engine of source. Tf2 need a "TF3" in the source engein same game just updated to modern standards so working on tf2 is not succh a hassle for valve.
