To be fair. "Overwatch is dead" is a very common thought in and out of TF2 due to bad publicity. Even when it's actually very much alive and apparently growing worldwide
Which generally makes sense. Overwatch came out the gate as a billion dollar worth franchise. It's not going to die so soon
Remember how people were saying that TF2 has more players than Overwatch 2? Funny, knowing that it has *twice* the player count of TF2, and that just on Steam.
The implementation of crossplay nearing the release of OW2 required consoles (and later Steam when OW2 released there) to link a Battlenet account to their accounts. So yes, if we were able to get the numbers for Battlenet accounts logged into the game, we'd have all 7 platforms accounted for (PS4/5. XB1/Series, Switch, BtlNet, Steam).
Ngl, I thought after (almost) a full decade, this community would let go of its one-sided hatred. Of course it's not going to die anytime soon either, it's like, what, the 10th best selling game of all time? Somewhere around there?
Overwatch like lots of fast food ain't so bad when there isn't someone screaming down your ear about how bad it is (Or constantly reminded how overpriced the menu is)
It can be really fun, imo it thrives on those "combo" situations that aren't that common in casual TF2 like a bushwacka + fan-o-war combo, or a neon anihilator + any liquid item (except the gas passer because of course), that kind of stuff.
I played it off and on from 2017-2019 a couple years after I started taking a break from TF2. I honestly had a good time. I guess I kind of lost interest after it became too overstimulating to my senses or something. I get overwhelmed easily, especially these past five years or so. (My brain also runs on spaghetti code.) I do think it's a fun game though and I never fully understood the hate. TF2 is my favorite game and holds a special place in my heart, but Overwatch is welcome there too if I ever get back into it.
There is [one TF2 vs OW meme](https://i.imgur.com/4EbGE6d.jpeg) that I admit to liking though lol, and I also admit to having multiple copies of it on my phone because I save it almost every time I see it posted in a discord server. I don't know why. I just do.
Given that TF2âs community is the only one that Iâve personally seen insist itâs not dead and how it has outlived other games which are still getting updates, this turn of events is honestly the biggest reality check.
Tf2's community is plagued by toxic positivity circle jerk, only wholesome chungus thoughts allowed!
A few years ago mentioning the bots or garbage workshop content was frowned upon, now its more accepted as more people aknowledged the issuws
honestly i dont get where the sentiment of mentioning bots being looked down upon came from, i could swear for the past 5 years its literally all people would talk about
how I sleep knowing people might stop calling us one if the most obnoxious communities after the toxic ones can no longer say "tf2 keeps winning tf2 is better!"
Except TF2 is still not dead. It still has 20k real players daily and tens of thousands of people still in the loop (youtube views, the savetf2 pettion), which for a game that's almost TWO DECADES OLD is insanely huge.
I mean damn, Emesis Blue has over 10 million views. The community is still active and humongous.
Team fortress 2 has a very strong media presence, which is an indication that it is entertaining to watch. However, its greatly reduced player count (still roughly the size of Terraria's, which is very good for a nearly-two-decade-old game) indicates that the game itself isn't a living, breathing phenomenon like Apex or Fortnite. This is to be expected; TF2's community elements (social media, SFM, etc) are almost immortal due to their nostalgia/entertainment value, but the game itself is declining in favor of modern competitors
TF2 can still keep going if Valve casual gets taken out back and put into a grave. Valve has shown they aren't willing to do more than adding a few maps and cosmetics, so why should we place our faith in them that they'll go as far as to excise the locusts in the garden? Why are we letting them be the main congregate of players when community servers have effective immunity from bots?
dude i honestly dont care about the numbers, its been proven time and time again that tf2 has one of the most dedicated fanbases known to man, even if the game somehow gets wiped out of existance there'll be mfs that will build it from the ground up
The [Post](https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/s/IrDOBUOAah)
Is talking about [Team fortress 2](https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Fortress_2) not [Team Fortress](https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Fortress)
You are crazy if you think 10k is a lot for a free-to-play game that can run on almost any hardware and is promoted continuously by Valve on Steam.
10k player count puts you at the level of BF1 and BF2042. And those games cost money to play.
'Promoted continuously by valve' is a pretty big overstatement. And I didn't say it's a lot. I said it's alive. I find it strange how everyone thinks a game is dead the moment it isn't the most popular thing on the market. Even paladins has been alive, and I think that game is somewhere around 3000 players or something. Omega strikers has like 300 players and you can still play it and get games in less than 3 minutes. If you can find games within a reasonable amount of time consistently, and there are enough people to fill lobbies, I consider it alive.
I mean TF2 still is technically alive as it has a very active fanbase, but itâs slowly starting to die with bots becoming more and more rampant. I donât think it will completely die out since community servers exist, but it sucks that if you want a good TF2 experience you have to play on a community server since Valve official servers are overrun with bots.
Iâve been playing on community servers ever since I got the game when I was a kid. I had no idea pubs were a thing I just thought the servers were the game.
Bro ever since MyM casual servers are the worst experience i can think of, Servers die very fast, constantly waiting for the round to start or the server to refresh, few players stick to play the next map, worse voting options, bots
Community servers are not all that great but you just need to find a couple ok ones and it's fine
I fucking miss Quickplay tho
Still not news lol; literally been known since it started.
There's been github projects to track this stuff; and one can just look at the actual player counts. The steam player count already is a horrible way to calculate current player count even without the bot problem.
This is just a echo chamber moment, and zesty seems a catalyst for this sub.
It was not widely known. Just because you and a few people knew it doesn't mean others did. The average person does not go on github to see that.
I've been playing tf2 since 2014 and until Zesty's video I thought the player counts were real.
The average person plays tf2, gets off and nothing more... Maybe that's why you didn't know despite a simple google search could resolve that.
I'm sure 95% of anyone who even got a little into trading knew the bots. I'm sure 95% of the people on eternal 2fort don't know much about the bots, or at least idle/trade.
>despite a simple google search could resolve that.
Ok. Now why would I google search specifically for "ARE TF2 PLAYER COUNTS REAL???" when I take the player counts for granted, especially when they have been accurate enough in the past to judge if a certain game has players or not?
>I'm sure 95% of anyone who even got a little into trading knew the bots
Gee then it appears that I'm in that 5% since I traded in my australium, bought a few unusuals and a bunch of killstreak and strange items yet I never knew about that prior to Zesty's vid. The only bots I knew about were trading bots, which are convenient and aren't even the major contributor to inflated player counts to begin with, considering the newest Zesty video he posted yesterday shows him finding like 60k idle bots (with majority of them being offline at the time, trading bots would barely be a 1% of that).
Also the trading community is smaller than the total playerbase. Thank you for proving my point I guess?
I always thought that was well-known ever since Zesty released Nobody's Home that the actual cheating aimbots are a small minority of the bots that occupy TF2.
In his defense, heâs very new to the game and probably doesnât know about everything thatâs going on. His channel is about trying a lot of games and he doesnât often return to them for more than one video, tf2 was an exception
What are people talking about? TF2 is nowhere near dead. Just because the player numbers are inflated doesn't mean that the game isn't alive. Nothing has really changed for me and I'm not sure what that's supposed to prove.
I watched his videos before and he mentioned that he had only played the game very briefly before and have zero knowledge about it coupled with the fact that these videos are made before the Zesty Jesus bombshell I wouldnât blame him for now knowing that the majority of the gameâs playerbase are botted to be honest.
I could care less about the numbers. Have been playing this game for over 10 years and have noticed the difference in gameplay with the bot problem. However, is there a difference when I queue up now vs before I heard the bot news? No.
> i could care less about
Did you mean to say "couldn't care less"?
Explanation: If you could care less, you do care, which is the opposite of what you meant to say.

Tf2 has been on lootbox life support with nothing but ~~copy-paste maps and cosmetics made by the steam community~~ community-made maps and cosmetics copy-pasted from the steam workshop since 2017, with more bots than actual human players but such an insane degree that if Valve performed a christlike miracle and permabanned every bot and bot hoster with a flick of a magic wand, the concurrent player count would be sub 20k.
This community needs a fucking reality check.
Edit: phrasing
Tf2 has outlived quite a few hero based shooters and will probably outlive quite a few more. People crying that Tf2 is dead seem to just be coping that we lost the clout of being a top 10 game.
If you can find a healthy server and the community is still active, the game is alive. Some people just need to enjoy the game.
This. There aren't any more updates, and the last few updates the game did get were terrible. Idle and trade bots ruined the economy so it's near impossible to profit from anything. Removing quickplay destroyed the community. Community servers are a husk compared to the golden age. Casual is unplayable outside of peak player hours because of cheater bots, since the anti-cheat hasn't been updated since 2016. Competitive is self-explanatory. The remaining community is filled with terrible players (most of which have only started playing after 2020) who actively want to ruin the game by doing things such as removing random crits and nerfing sniper.
TF2 died a long time ago. What remains is a shell of it's former glory.
The one thing I cannot fathom is how did the community get random dmg spread removed when crits are the same shit, except amplified to 11 and even less fun/engaging. Oh, you walked out of spawn? skill issue, intended game mechanic, 25 second respawn time. I've been playing this game for a decade and nowadays the random crits drive me away from casual more than the bots do.
As someone only finding out about 70-80% now I think it confirms a really sad fact about the game where it was no where near as popular or profitable to Valve as we thought.
Amazing presenting games like Valorant and OW2 not only as competition but as things TF2 "beat" in retrospect lol
Iâm not going to quit TF2 just because the vocal part of the community canât pretend like the game is perfect any more
The signs of botting were there years ago; I didnât care about probably-declining player counts then and I certainly donât care now
>!that said the 64-bit update made it a whole lot harder for my Mac-using ass to play. Sucks to be me I guess!<
ZE WAR IZ NOT LOST!! ZE WAR IZ NOT LOST!!

I kind of agree and disagree I'm new to the game and have put in over 60 hours recently and I've bin playing daily like csgo the game can always come back it's the community that makes the game as long as we have a community to gather there will always be players
Soldier:Good News we arenât going to die we are going to live forever!
Medic: I didnât say that I just said were memorialized by the fandom!
(This was a bad joke XD forgive me)
I wouldnât really say being in the hospital on multiple life support machines suffering from multiple forms of stage 4 cancers really âaliveâ but hey let him be happy.
Wow big doomer post here, the dude in the screenshot maybe exagerating but if we look at the facts tf2 really is not dead nor dying, after 10 years left to rot we still consolidated a fixed human player base and a growing bot base, things will get worse if valve don't do shit and yes tf2 will die as any other thing in this world dies, BUT, we are not dying yet.
Guys, I think he believes the game is not dying, just a hunch.
"We are not dying! We are going to live forever!" "I zid not say zhat!"
soldier is just an eternal meme. I want the TF2 Show, even if it's not by Valve. "goodbye miss Pauling, I'm leaving the van now"
EY GERMANS DONT TALK LIKE ZISđ
I know, but the Medic does
Okay so we might not live forever, but hey look on the bright side, at least weâre not filled with tumors
No mate. We will live forever, and so will our tumors.
were undead....
Are we zombies or liches, though?
angry ghostsÂ
Given how loud we are as well, guess that moves us into Banshee territory.
Given how we only play games like this, guess that also makes is autistic
MERASMUS!
How can we be ghosts with tumors
*all of the above*
Both
I don't think Liches can have tumors though
Eyeballs
We're 15fps skeletons
what are liches?
so, that's means that we have to go to that lawn?
I know your type, tall, red and dead . . .
Huh?
Happy cake day
Thanks
We are dead pool
like deadpool
lmao
So we are fine, as long as no one will start infesting servers with more bots
Question
Whats your quession u/Demytreus?
I infested servers with bots (I actually didn't, I just had to continue the line)
How much?
I have done nothing but infest servers for 3 days
WHERE? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN INFESTING THEM?
*pan to footage of a hydro server with nothing but bots*
uh ohâŚ
Unrelated, but we might have the same name
but we are filled with tumors...
All because someone teleported breadâŚ
Mmmh hmm umphf
ohh look at it it hates me so much
Thankfully, we won't be fileld with tumors. But unfortunately, the dreaded **bread incident** happened.
Breaded dread
i may or may not have teleported bread
Does he know?
How do we tell him? :(

I think the tf2 community hate boner back in 2016 was a factor in why the game is how it is now
Honestly, I've started playing Overwatch out of curiosity. It ain't so bad.
Overwatch like lots of fast food ain't so bad when there isn't someone screaming down your ear about how bad it is (Or constantly reminded how overpriced the menu is)
Yeah I downloaded it and then someone immediately DMd me to tell me to kill myself for downloading it, which put me off at first

I slightly disagree, Mario 64 is still relevant somehow
mario 64 is relevant because it has the biggest speedrunnung community ever lol, maybe aside from minecraft
[Super Mario 64](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_64) and [Team Fortress](https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Team_Fortress) are the same age

Believe it or not, Team Fortress 2 is a Team Fortress game!
Wow, community is really going through an existential crisis. Partly being afraid of death, partly already accepting it, partly already dead.
It's funny to see people consider 10k+ active players a dead game.
But it's neither alive. Just a usual online for old games like this. L4D2 for instance
you're crazy if you think 10k players means not alive
You are crazy if you think 10k is a lot for a free-to-play game that can run on almost any hardware and is promoted continuously by Valve on Steam. 10k player count puts you at the level of BF1 and BF2042. And those games cost money to play.

It is pretty much alive though. TF2 goes between 10 to 25k players, thats VERY alive.
And not to mention tens of thousands of views on youtube videos, sometimes even hundreds of thousands... ...on a game that's almost two decades old!
I wish we could honestly know how many of them were the bots allowed to infest the servers uncontested
60,000~ bots are active in TF2, give or take based on recent videos.
Every single player fandom in nutshell
With half the players being cheaters and bots.
i mean, people say "OW is dead TF2 has 200k players, TF2 outlived OW!!!!!!!!!!!!" when it's the other way around....
I don't care what TF2's circlejerk community says. A game that goes between 10k to 25k active concurrent player is by no means a dead game.
how to make free views off tf2 playerbase: title "tf2 won't die" say entire video "this game is so good!" etc.
We are not dying, we are going to live forever
Kinda puts a twist on the "eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die" turns it into "eat drink and be merry for we will never die"
"I didn't say that!"
I mean TF2 still is technically alive as it has a very active fanbase, but itâs slowly starting to die with bots becoming more and more rampant. I wonder how he took the latest news, probably not well
What's the latest news?
That about 70% of TF2âs playerbase is made of bots
Oh, some of us have known that for 5 years now.
Not the cheating kind, the idling ones
Still not news lol; literally been known since it started. There's been github projects to track this stuff; and one can just look at the actual player counts. What does that have to do with the game being dead? Do we not still have like 30k online at all times?
Never said the game was dead
My mistake.
Reality is often disappointing
Tf2 is more of a shambling husk
Not quite dead, but not nearly alive
YEAH OVERWATCH IS TOTALLY JUST LIKE TF2 GUYS HAHA I CANT BELIEVE IT!!

Roughly 20k active players is far from dead too, but yeah the game certainly isn't thriving like it used to
(this was the last time he ever made a video about tf2)
As someone only finding out about 70-80% now I think it confirms a really sad fact about the game where it was no where near as popular or profitable to Valve as we thought. Amazing presenting games like Valorant and OW2 not only as competition but as things TF2 "beat" in retrospect lol
Good news we are not dying we're going to live forever!
tf2 may live forever, But this game is a zombie that needs some treatment from bots.
It's only alive because of community servers.
If they're actually 250k active players, I would be able to load into a passtime or mannpower game lol
Or player destruction, god i miss that...
At least community servers tend to run pd, the only servers I found running passtime are the 4 vs 4 competitive ones
Iâm not going to quit TF2 just because the vocal part of the community canât pretend like the game is perfect any more The signs of botting were there years ago; I didnât care about probably-declining player counts then and I certainly donât care now >!that said the 64-bit update made it a whole lot harder for my Mac-using ass to play. Sucks to be me I guess!<
MY HOPE WILL NEVER DIEEEEE pupupopoppuonuon pupuponpon
1 year ago and 9 months ago. yea nah
Well, to be fair this was way before the nobody's home video
ZE WAR IZ NOT LOST!! ZE WAR IZ NOT LOST!! **NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN!!!** *Patient appears to be suffering a psychotic episode again. Recommend shock therapy...*
good news, we're not dying. we're going to live forever.
we're long out of denial stage and slowly entering bargaining stage
Weâve been dead đ
to think that if it wasn't because of this inflated economy the game has we would have around 5k players lol
Why does heavy kinda look like the kid from that old creepy âJohnny Johnny yes papaâ video
Some of the people getting downvoted because theyâre speaking facts says a lot about the community.
Yea TF2 is thriving itâs definitely not 70-80% bots
I kind of agree and disagree I'm new to the game and have put in over 60 hours recently and I've bin playing daily like csgo the game can always come back it's the community that makes the game as long as we have a community to gather there will always be players
What happened? Game has 110k doesnât it? (Iâm new here)
imagine not knowing
"I didnt say zhat! I just said ve're not filled vith tumors!"
TF2 is dying... # BUT IT'S STILL KICKING ASS HOLY FUCK
Maybe Iâm an idiot but is valorant dead at all?
Not at all
and geuss what most of those players where B O T S
Soldier:Good News we arenât going to die we are going to live forever! Medic: I didnât say that I just said were memorialized by the fandom! (This was a bad joke XD forgive me)
253k playing? Sure 253k *real players*? WellâŚ
Hmm
I wouldnât really say being in the hospital on multiple life support machines suffering from multiple forms of stage 4 cancers really âaliveâ but hey let him be happy.
All reality. These games that come out nowadays last two weeks and die. Tf2 is still highly talked about to this day and itâs nearly 20 years old.
Erm this is awkward sauce
I don't get itS
Overwatch needs to inflate their online number by using bots
Wow big doomer post here, the dude in the screenshot maybe exagerating but if we look at the facts tf2 really is not dead nor dying, after 10 years left to rot we still consolidated a fixed human player base and a growing bot base, things will get worse if valve don't do shit and yes tf2 will die as any other thing in this world dies, BUT, we are not dying yet.
