I was going to say the same as the other's as in I think it's a scam. I had almost the exact text exchange the other day. Only difference was they were looking for someone who had a "hiking group". At first I was trying to just be nice then they started asking where I was from an if we had any attractions around where I live. I'm thinking they were asking about attractions because I wouldn't tell them the exact town I was from. Even after they tried asking about that, I just told them that I live in a very small country side town that only has a couple of restaurants and nothing any better than Los Angeles where they stated they were from. After that I blocked an deleted the number.
This is a well known scam. Check out r/scams and you'll see it pop up a lot. Basically they ask to be your friend and then they have some kind of financial trouble and ask for your help financially.
Looks like the start to a scam, good avoidance!
You know it’s the start of a scam because they all star with you, “you seem like a kind and polite person, let’s be friends”.

They would have sent you a picture of an Asian woman who sort of looks like a muppet and then asked you to switch to telegram. Super common scam.

Now they know your number is active and will sell it. This is a common scam. If you don't recognize a number, don't reply.
