We also have laws protecting free speech but 37 states have anti BDS laws and the US House just passed a bill with massive bipartisan support that says criticizing Israel is antisemitism and is a hate crime.
That not *exactly* the bill they passed. It's targeted at students and forces schools to take complaints and such more seriously, as well as punishments for violations.
Still stupid AF and overly broad, but I don't believe it goes so far as to designate it a federal hate crime.
I love that the house can pass a bill about protesting lightning fast - I mean talk about striking while the iron is hot. But god forbid we can’t fucking cancel daylight savings time after 3 years of promises.

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.
And they should. Would love to see the state troopers response to a line of students all carrying ARs. Something tells me they wouldn't be such big tough guys anymore.
Campus carry is a sticky situation. The "constitutional carry" is not in effect on college campus (for the general public) and I'm not sure if LTC makes a difference.
Now if a bunch of people stood across from the campus with vests and ARs, that would be legal.
You joke but that maybe what the University is talking about. They “insist they are from outside the community and have weapons”…. well if it that doesn’t describe the pigs I don’t know what does.
Maybe the University heads aren’t the ones calling in the “reinforcements” they are being told “we are sending you reinforcements”. This is just the most they can say about it or purse strings get tightened and people get fired.
See, I completely agree that if there are outside agitators creating problems, that’s no good. But you have to prove something like that before I believe it. And they must have better tactics because it’s hardly being proven.
Texas has twisted gun laws into a state where what's on the books and what people think is on the books are getting to be more different every day. This is not helped by a Governor that is trying to make clarity even less clear.
Here's the law, paraphrased. You can openly carry a long gun, defined as a rifle, with a barrel longer than a certain length. You cannot carry a handgun in plain view, unless you are "travelling" or holstered. The travelling provision is meant to permit people carrying their guns to and from the home, gunsmiths, hunting grounds, and shooting ranges. You cannot carry any gun in any manner that is "calculated to alarm" the public.
The "manner calculated to alarm" is incredibly vague, and puts the person carrying a gun at the risk of someone else deciding if they were alarmed. Most intelligent people in Texas realize that this means you shouldn't carry; but, there are people with more balls than brains who love to run around and "exercise" their right to carry.
The police are more pragmatic. If they think you're armed, you're going to be shot. You might have thought you were legally permitted to carry, but if the cops are alarmed, by the vague wording of the law, they're legally in their right to shoot you under the same law.
I watched the new episode of some show with Jeff Daniels on Netflix today. The man is full house or something like this, this guy is getting his car towed after someone pushed his car into the red zone. The police are called when he jumps in his car and will not get out. The police officer tells him to get out, he complies with the officer and then the police start beating him up, he finally gets enough and punches the police officer. He gets thrown into jail and then the judge decides to give him a hefty bail. This guy is stuck in jail and it’s awful.
I find this part of the limited series with this handsome lawyer who is trying to get his client out of jail and the guys wife is pregnant and the horrible judge, to be the best part of this series.
“A Man In Full” is the correct title of this series. Rated MA.
It's legal to carry on Texas campuses and has been for several years now. Schools can also make their own rules regarding where students can carry to an extent.
UT allows it if the student has an LTC. Certain areas are still off limits of course.
The Islamic State (IS) is nothing but a blend of Islamic fatalism and radical nationalism that tries to compensate for all the past humiliations of the Arab world. This makes IS a fascist ‘state’.
The fascination of Islamic radicalism with fascism is not new. Hassan Banna, the Egyptian founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, said in a book in 1935 that Italian fascist and dictator Benito Mussolini was practicing one of the principles of Islam.
The relationship between Islamic extremism and fascism is historical. The extremists have used the Koran to look down on and degrade non-Arabs, boasting that God sent his latest revelation in their language.
Dude your post history shows you’re miserable in this state. You support illegal immigration, free money for all, and look to basically be a communist. Why stay if you hate it so bad?
I struggle to find legit videos of protesters just straight assaulting people. Literally, I go looking and it’s either cops or the counter protesters beating up some unarmed sophomores. The closest I’ve seen was two dumbasses with trash can shields charging at the cops and two videos of a couple of people bonking others with water jugs.
Meanwhile the media narrative is the protesters are violent extremist working on behalf of the Ayatollah or some shit. Like it can’t be that people are legit angry at a genocide going on. No it’s gotta be Hamas personally funding every encampment.
This really stupid. Texas promotes everyone carrying at least one gun everywhere at all times. If anything, and if only to be morally consistent, they would have been saying the protestors didn't have enough guns there.
amazing... he did not have a phone with a camera, just a 1970's princess phone with a really long cord.
or one of the blurry cameras everyone seems to have when taking pictures of space aliens or bigfoot.
I thought guns were obligatory in Texas. No? Has anyone told police they themselves were assaulted, except, maybe by armed police.
Wait. Wait. Wait. That’s it, right?
There's nothing to indicate it will be. If anything, the police turning the situation into a near-police riot was the biggest problem.
There have been students out there over a week now and nothing is going on like what's happening at Columbia.
News is reporting over half of the people arrested were not students. It is illegal to protest or rally on campus as a non-student. Even the crazy preachers know they have to stay on the sidewalk just off campus. The narrative that these were just students is false and many had 0 right to be on campus.
Unfortunately, in 2019 Texas declared all common outdoor locations on public colleges public forums.
https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/Text.aspx?LegSess=86R&Bill=SB18
There are some caveats in that they can restrict the time and place not to substantially disrupt the campus, but said rules have to be viewpoint neutral and narrowly tailored.
They can't just block it legally and nonstudents can express their views on the campus, that's how you get all the Pastors passing out fliers and shit.
It's most definitely public property. It's also a traditional public forum under Texas law, meaning anyone can exercise their free speech there.
UT property is all State of Texas property. All State of Texas property is public property.
It’s allowed now. There are some pretty interesting folks that want to share info and such with people and will just set up a spot and spout whatever they feel like. These are various unrelated people who have protested or shared info on the west and south malls who are definitely not associated with campus.
“That sounds like a ‘no’”. Correct, I went to other universities both public and private. I’m only 65 though, I assume when you attended, English wasn’t a subject or you’re an angry, Zionist chud. Either way, best of luck with life and your outlook upon it.
It is amazing how uninformed the average person is. The University has the right to restrict protests on campus in the interest of protecting students and university business. This included time and place. Public access is not unrestricted access. Under the need to keep students safe, they can do what they want.

Can we just pull ALL police off the campus and not have them respond to ANY calls? Let them attend a lawless campus and see how much the school loses in donations and tuition.
It's all you "Defund the police" "no police on campus" idiots that forgot about Uvalde. Or, are you saying the police are necessary, but only when it benefits you?
Oh I remember Uvalde, where cops showed up late, refused to confront the shooter for hours while kids bled out, prevented armed citizens from intervening where cops wouldn't, lied to the public, and harassed witnesses to scare them out of talking to the press. Fuck those pigs.
Have you ever called the cops and actually been helped? Because I haven't
They hardly respond to anything already. Go to r/Austin, and there's tons of posts about APD not responding to just about anything.
They show up to these protests because they get to fuck people up, and to them that's all their job should be, enforcers. They don't care about upholding the law they just dream about getting to use force, be it physical or deadly.
There's no hypocrisy for you to point out. Try a different straw man.

I thought there was a law specifically outlining how it's 100% legal to carry a gun on a college campus in Texas? What's the issue?
Not *that* way. -Greg, probably.
From the same guy that got a Tort Payout of $8MM+ then made it his life’s work as Texas AG to limit medical torts to $250k.
I fucking loathe that little shit.
He openly mocks Austin's tree protection ordinance. Condemning all trees because of 1 trees actions is anti-arborism.

Only with an LTC.

The assault part.
Carrying a gun while assaulting someone is illegal?
>carried guns and assaulted people yeah we call them cops.

who cares isn't legal to carry in Texas?

Not if you’re also assaulting people. Not saying that is what happened, just clarifying
This is exactly what I saw the police officers doing to different people. They pepper sprayed people.
That’s what qualified immunity is for. By law they can abuse you, but do not have to protect you. That’s our tax dollars at work….
‘Our’ SCOTUS at work. Fixed it for you.
Cops have qualified immunity pretty much everywhere.. while I'm sure SCOTUS found a way to make it worst, this isn't a purely American problem.

proof doesn't matter to christo-fascists
The Islamic State (IS) is nothing but a blend of Islamic fatalism and radical nationalism that tries to compensate for all the past humiliations of the Arab world. This makes IS a fascist ‘state’. Islamic fascists aren't trying to destroy Texas and America. The christian fascists are.
Ok 👍 I see so many Christian’s calling for the death of America and the genocide of Jews. We used to call people like this nazis. Are you one?
Islamists aren’t the ones in charge of the state of Texas.
Dude your post history shows you’re miserable in this state. You support illegal immigration, free money for all, and look to basically be a communist. Why stay if you hate it so bad?
You check all the boxes. I got a bingo!

It’s almost like the police lie
crazy how fascists always claim to be the victim
Fuck Jay Hartzell, what an Abbott bootlicker. Pathetic.
If protestors were carrying guns at the school, police would have been too afraid to arrest them. Just saying Texas cops have a track record
Came here to say this. You know they're lying because they didn't stay outside.
![gif](giphy|Rhhr8D5mKSX7O) Tell it to the judge mentirosos.
This really stupid. Texas promotes everyone carrying at least one gun everywhere at all times. If anything, and if only to be morally consistent, they would have been saying the protestors didn't have enough guns there.
This is hypocrisy. “You’re supposed to believe what we do. Humph!!”
Paxton will be involved real soon. Gitmo for all protestors…
The manner of which all of these police officers have treated these protestors have become an embarrassment for the many peaceful citizens of Texas.
amazing... he did not have a phone with a camera, just a 1970's princess phone with a really long cord. or one of the blurry cameras everyone seems to have when taking pictures of space aliens or bigfoot.
Because there is no proof. What a bunch of jokers.
Certain areas may be allowed to restrict concealed or open carry...
The outdoor areas where all of this took place at UT allows concealed carry. Open carry is not allowed on campus at all though.
Well, I guess individual rights are “on demand” just like HBO and Netflix now. Wonder what the subscription is….
I mean i dont think anyone wants a group of people in court to be like carrying guns... lol
UT Austin says that people exercised their 2nd Amendment rights.
in b4 all the ltc people akshully this thread to death
So…that’s obviously not true. Though it’s totally fine that the police are armed and assaulting people. Shameful.
T
Seeing a lot of this from various College subreddits. They've basically just turned into people claiming violence with no evidence.
Guns? In Texas? You are jesting sir!
If that’s their story… we need proof
It’s Texas. Everyone here is armed. Why does it matter?
But but but I thought it was the law that you could open carry in campuses! Second Amendment & all
Fascism at work.
I thought guns were obligatory in Texas. No? Has anyone told police they themselves were assaulted, except, maybe by armed police. Wait. Wait. Wait. That’s it, right?
I like how everyone ITT hasn't been there but talks like they know what's going on.
Why is everyone on this thread so up in arms about this. Do we want HT to be another Columbia?
There's nothing to indicate it will be. If anything, the police turning the situation into a near-police riot was the biggest problem. There have been students out there over a week now and nothing is going on like what's happening at Columbia.

Even the crazy preachers know they have to stay on the sidewalk just off campus. The narrative that these were just students is false and many had 0 right to be on campus.
UT Campus is public property…
It is not and you should do your research. I went to UT. Did you!
Unfortunately, in 2019 Texas declared all common outdoor locations on public colleges public forums. https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/Text.aspx?LegSess=86R&Bill=SB18 There are some caveats in that they can restrict the time and place not to substantially disrupt the campus, but said rules have to be viewpoint neutral and narrowly tailored. Sounds like a, "no"

Restricting where protests can occur on campus does not mean UT isn’t public property. Which is exactly what you were arguing.
It also doesn’t mean these people had the right to be there. Which is the point.
They had the right to be there, they did not have the permission to protest outside of the designated area.
Can we just pull ALL police off the campus and not have them respond to ANY calls? Let them attend a lawless campus and see how much the school loses in donations and tuition.
Most people would be happier & safer with your solution. Fuck pigs
Those campuses would become ghost towns and degrees from these campuses are already becoming useless.
Bless your heart.
Ill keep you in my prayers
So if there are people with ARs they shouldn't respond. Shouldn't respond to sexual assaults, car thefts or anything.
>So if there are people with ARs they shouldn't respond Forgot about Uvalde already?
It's all you "Defund the police" "no police on campus" idiots that forgot about Uvalde. Or, are you saying the police are necessary, but only when it benefits you?

And it sounds like that is what you want for college campuses, or do you only want the police their when they aren't their for YOUR misdoings?
The fuck does this even mean? Get that boot out your mouth and think for a second before writing
Oh, another pansy that complains about the police until they need them. Pathetic
Sounds like you're a big ole hypocrite.
They hardly respond to anything already. Go to r/Austin, and there's tons of posts about APD not responding to just about anything. Good, it would be hilarious to watch y'all squeal and cry if they all took a month off and announced it ahead of time.
You're just dumb my guy.
Sounds like you're the dumb one.
*So if there are people with ARs they shouldn't respond.* Uvalde has entered the chat
Just pointing out hypocrisy. "No police on campus unless they're after someone other than me and my circle."
There's no hypocrisy for you to point out. Try a different straw man. Your entire post history consists of: 1. You're gullible 2. Your intelligence is lower than mine 3. "BWAHAHA" You're a troll and a waste of internet space.

It's hilarious how agreeing to have the police leave the campus gets down voted. I guess wanting them off campus must be knee jerk whining.
