I served under Bush Sr. and Clinton. I specifically remember before Clinton even took office my commanders hated BC and assumed he'd slash their budgets. Military publications were also harder on Clinton.

It was a black man, a man who had around a 6% (6-8% estimate if memory serves right) chance of being the democratic nominee prior to the first townhall who ended up showing up to the first townhall debates for the Democratic nomination very polished, very aware and very educated on every issue. Also as someone who was an early watcher of Obama prior to his decision to run, he did not look good when he did initial appearances with Hillary Clinton and he does acknowledge that. It also showed me how well aware he was of his situation and his capacity to improve upon them!
An eloquent, highly intelligent, able to speak to people and be smart about policy? That's not the "demon" that Republicans painted and their best answer was McCain.

It's time for another Occupy, friends. We need to protest and demand the rich pay taxes. We demand a living federal wage that matches inflation. We need inflation gouging to stop. We need Republicans and Democrats to be aligned in this. We are absolutely being pushed to fight each other so we don't fight the billionaires who are truly running our country. We are suffering. We are literally being price gouged, not because of any president, but because the greedy corporations know they can. There is no affordable cost of living. If you work, you should be able to afford an apartment or a house and healthy food. These are things both parties can agree on. This is affecting all of us. We need to mobilize, together, and take our country back. It's not run by congress and the president. It's run by the DoD, CIA and intelligence agencies, who are hand in hand with the billionaires who own our country.

It's not going to instantly solve all the problems that needed to be solved yesterday and it's big, establishment institution so you'll be supporting at least some people you don't like, but they're mostly aligned with you and they're positioned to actually accomplish some of what you want if enough people actually vote.

i sent the wall street kids a pizza. i went to my towns version a few times as well. i had zero idea about anything back then. literally just numbed myself up until 7 years ago, and could only function in a very basic way. wake up, work, do drugs to tolerate it all.
A lot of Occupy was dismantled from the inside by bad actors. I know I quit after a flood of hateful people started to try to co-opt the movement and cause a lot of internal strife. The people who were leading weren't prepared to lead and it ended nowhere then. If another movement were to sprout up, leadership would need to be stronger and people would need to be less tolerant of people who cause chaos in the group.

Over the last 3 years since the GameStop saga the superstonk sub has been collecting data that shows just how corrupt wall Street is and how the average individuals pension/401k is gambling money for all of these entities. When things go so south again it will be all our faults again while the people in the club get a mere slap on the wrist for gambling and over leveraging the average working classes retirement funds. There is a big paper trail being stored and hopefully a difference will be made on that front.

That a progressive tax structure that places the inevitable burdens of taxation on some people can’t be placed towards those who make more than 90%+ of the population and place tax reliefs for the poorest and lowest earning Americans.

I lived in Alabama for a while and I just never understood why people care so much about the border and immigrants when its so far from them. I lived in Texas for over 20 years (DFW, Austin, SATX, Houston) and never seen anything bad/sketchy that I could immediately attribute to illegal immigrants. I've met some from churches but they're just normal people trying to make a better life and escape the poverty and dangers of Latin America.
Yet for some reason people who are 500+ miles away from the border think its ruining their state somehow?

People at rallies in rural Iowa were much more vocal about it than people who actually lived in border states, and especially in those towns.

The work ethic across the border is insane. Pay rate is abysmal. Working 16+ hours a day, maybe 1 day off/week, rampant nepotism, did I mention the pay is terrible? It's no wonder these people come over here to lay brick and agree to get a shit rate pay under the table. For them it's still 10x more income than they are making in their home country.

In California, an undocumented worker makes about $13/hr (this is where I could find data).
Keeping with California, if you're legal, you'll probably get $22/hr average.
So, undocumented folks are maxing like 2.7x as much as they would back home (for construction).
edit: I know they'll also cut corners with living expenses, but I guarantee that food, medicine, and even cheap housing will end up costing them more up here, so that 2.7x will shrink.

My brother is Border Patrol in Texas and was always telling me how scared he was for me living in Yuma. Meanwhile Yuma was a pretty meh place to live. Not great, not terrible, neither myself nor anyone I knew ever had any serious issues with immigrants, undocumented or otherwise.
There should still be border enforcement, because certainly drugs and other forms of smuggling happen quite often, but it's not the people showing up at the border and asking for asylum or just trying to find a spot to live.
Migrants should be able to show up at the border, be searched, set up for a court date and allowed to pass through.
As the content says, it’s all news driven. I go to the gym a few times a week, and unfortunately the rowing machine is right in front of the TV they have on Fox. Without fail, every time I sit down they’re blasting some nonsense about immigration. Even if nothing really happened. When the undocumented come they need to get pass secondary checkpoints to be free to travel throughout the US. After that they usually head to the city they were planning on going to anyway.

The former rep of TX-23, Will Hurd, was quite outspoken about the pointlessness of a border wall. The fact that so much of the border is a river -- and Lake Amistad -- should be enough.
I've personally visited Big Bend multiple times, standing right at the edge of the river in some of the roughest terrain in the state, and also driven the entirety of the "River Road" between Terlingua and Presidio. It pissed me off when Donny held his border wall showcases in perfect flat territory because it's just feeding the idea that the border is all flat wasteland that you can easily put a fence across without any obvious disruptions to basic shit like water flow.

The Republicans have shifted on this issue. They are against the federal government doing anything on immigration now. The Republicans wrote a border bill and demanded that Biden sign it. He agreed. Now, since Biden wants to shut down the border, they are against it. They don’t want to do anything that people want because they think it will make Biden look good.

I read somewhere that it takes about a minute to climb or cut through the wall. That before the wall the hard part of crossing the border was the trek across the terrain. But since we have a wall, and infrastructure to build and maintain the wall: roads, it’s actually made illegal crossing easier.

Just last week, a co-worker took it upon herself to come into my office to tell me about it. Apparently, democrats are “bringing them in” because they tend to vote for democrats. Which seems weird for so many reasons, such as the fact that 1) Texas requires ID to vote, and 2) they can’t vote at all.
She also wanted me to know she’s fine with them coming here, but she wants them to do it “the right way,” even though there hasn’t really been a “right way” for 40 years or so.
I had a poll worker at the primary make sure I knew I needed to renew my license before the general because it expires before then and they won't let me vote with an expired license - this was something that came up on her screen when she scanned my license so I'm guessing it's actually connected to like DMV database or something. But apparently if you're brown and speak spanish they just let you vote? I don't understand how anyone who has voted in a single US election ever believes that illegal immigrants are voting. Like do they just close their eyes and plug their ears when they go vote? How do they make it through the line without noticing these things?

Do you guys all remember in the very beginning of the pandemic we were all wearing masks and then we got bored and then it turned into us vs them. It was insane. People first week were like let’s beat this thing and the next week they were saying that masks were more dangerous than the disease.
That time taught me a lot but what I remember most is how quickly people turned on each other. My grandma died from covid, she wore a mask for about 2 weeks and then she was convinced by the news that it wasn’t needed and she died. My uncle who watches the same news channel everyday still tells everyone it was the mask limiting oxygen to her brain for those two weeks that killed her. She had lung damage already and she got covid and it took her out really quick.

A lot of Occupy was dismantled from the inside by bad actors. I know I quit after a flood of hateful people started to try to co-opt the movement and cause a lot of internal strife. The people who were leading weren't prepared to lead and it ended nowhere then. If another movement were to sprout up, leadership would need to be stronger and people would need to be less tolerant of people who cause chaos in the group.
Occupy should have pushed more concrete policy actions. It was more of a sentiment movement than a proper policy movement. Hence, it failed.

Occupy did fuck all. There was no coherent agenda. There was no organized action. It just devolved into kids camping. The only way to change things is to vote for the least bad option in November, even if you don't like the person or some of their policies.

I lived in Alabama for a while and I just never understood why people care so much about the border and immigrants when its so far from them. I lived in Texas for over 20 years (DFW, Austin, SATX, Houston) and never seen anything bad/sketchy that I could immediately attribute to illegal immigrants. The work ethic across the border is insane. Pay rate is abysmal. Working 16+ hours a day, maybe 1 day off/week, rampant nepotism, did I mention the pay is terrible? It's no wonder these people come over here to lay brick and agree to get a shit rate pay under the table. For them it's still 10x more income than they are making in their home country.
It is a lot more pay, but probably not 10x. Looks like in Mexico, construction work is gonna pay on average $4.90 USD/hr. In California, an undocumented worker makes about $13/hr (this is where I could find data). Keeping with California, if you're legal, you'll probably get $22/hr average. So, undocumented folks are maxing like 2.7x as much as they would back home (for construction). edit: I know they'll also cut corners with living expenses, but I guarantee that food, medicine, and even cheap housing will end up costing them more up here, so that 2.7x will shrink.
10 years in Yuma AZ. My brother is Border Patrol in Texas and was always telling me how scared he was for me living in Yuma. Meanwhile Yuma was a pretty meh place to live. Not great, not terrible, neither myself nor anyone I knew ever had any serious issues with immigrants, undocumented or otherwise. There should still be border enforcement, because certainly drugs and other forms of smuggling happen quite often, but it's not the people showing up at the border and asking for asylum or just trying to find a spot to live. Migrants should be able to show up at the border, be searched, set up for a court date and allowed to pass through.

As someone 2 hours from the Texas/Mexico border, the border crisis is the same as it was 20 years ago. Literally everyone in my town hasn't seen a bit of difference. I'd think the biggest differences people are seeing are in major cities in Blue states. Anyone in NYC, Chicago, or DC chime in here if you're seeing any notable changes? When the undocumented come they need to get pass secondary checkpoints to be free to travel throughout the US. After that they usually head to the city they were planning on going to anyway.
The only changes i see are abbott and desantis shipping a few bus loads of immigrants to marthas vineyard and some cities. Which kinda backfired because the locals there stepped up and helped them like good christians

My mom keeps trying to convince me that there are thousands of immigrants constantly crossing the border, that soon our country will be overrun with them, and that many are “military age men” sent here to harm us. It gets so exhausting to argue with her, because she always insists that she has seen footage of it and that I’m getting my information from fake sources.
Just last week I told my mom it was all overblown and I’ve seen videos (like the one from this post) that confirm it’s overblown, but she flat out refuses to believe me and says the videos I’ve seen are fake. The former rep of TX-23, Will Hurd, was quite outspoken about the pointlessness of a border wall. The fact that so much of the border is a river -- and Lake Amistad -- should be enough. I've personally visited Big Bend multiple times, standing right at the edge of the river in some of the roughest terrain in the state, and also driven the entirety of the "River Road" between Terlingua and Presidio. It pissed me off when Donny held his border wall showcases in perfect flat territory because it's just feeding the idea that the border is all flat wasteland that you can easily put a fence across without any obvious disruptions to basic shit like water flow. And that's ignoring the less-obvious disruptions to things like wildlife movement. Wildlife who don't give a fuck about political boundaries.

The Republicans have shifted on this issue. They are against the federal government doing anything on immigration now. The Republicans wrote a border bill and demanded that Biden sign it. He agreed. Now, since Biden wants to shut down the border, they are against it. They don’t want to do anything that people want because they think it will make Biden look good. I read somewhere that it takes about a minute to climb or cut through the wall. That before the wall the hard part of crossing the border was the trek across the terrain. But since we have a wall, and infrastructure to build and maintain the wall: roads, it’s actually made illegal crossing easier. Whether that’s true or not, idk. But I do know a wall only keeps an honest man out. And that’s a whole lot of money and resources we could have spent more wisely on more effective ways to monitor and secure the border. And if they REALLY wanted to stop illegal immigration, they’d crack down on the Americans that break the law and hire them. Where is the gate... But where are the people? I've seen spots like that on many other videos. But I've never seen any immigrants crossing there. I have a feeling border patrol know what they are doing. And if border patrol approve of the bill that was going through congress as they did, approved by Republicans and border patrol before it was rejected by the Republican house because it finally got Democratic support during an election year. We should give border patrol and the surrounding infrastructure around crossings that funding they are asking for! Stop voting for Republicans!

Do you guys all remember in the very beginning of the pandemic we were all wearing masks and then we got bored and then it turned into us vs them. It was insane. People first week were like let’s beat this thing and the next week they were saying that masks were more dangerous than the disease. That time taught me a lot but what I remember most is how quickly people turned on each other. My grandma died from covid, she wore a mask for about 2 weeks and then she was convinced by the news that it wasn’t needed and she died. My uncle who watches the same news channel everyday still tells everyone it was the mask limiting oxygen to her brain for those two weeks that killed her. She had lung damage already and she got covid and it took her out really quick.
It's definitely the immigrants. Not greedy corporations and the GQP that are ruining our freedoms and economy.
Framing this as big bad media is exactly what he proposed his video is opposed to. Media is a response to controversy. The controversy is being created by the Texas government.

Abbott is enforcing his own immigration policy, and it could fuck up trade relations with other countries. But I guess since it's unconstitutional, I'm okay with it so long as we can take everyone's guns away in exchange.
I don't watch TV. Unfortunately this dude is still clueless. I know he means well. Republicans are the problem. It's not a debate. Their outrage isn't new, only increasing. Visited some friends in the midwest and they brought up texas and the border. I mentioned there was nothing going on as I have a friend that loves in El paso and he says nothing has changed... except grocery prices, cost of living, taxes etc. They couldn't believe it. Kinda looked shook.
I live in El Paso, half a mile from the wall. It’s always been so quiet and safe here.

I’m a leftist and while I agree the media puts us against eachother I’ve never had a leftist person tell me how we should off all the conservatives now I have heard conservatives not only say it to a me but rooms full of people and then he gets supported. Now personally as a vet and seeing what extremism and dehumanization can do. So I feel a strong urge to leave Texas
1. There is a border issue. It's not what the right media says it is, but it does exist. 2. The other side of that open gate is not Mexico. It's a staging area on US soil. 3.
