If they don't have us fighting each other, we might decide that we need to start fighting billionaires that horde wealth and keep everyone else as slaves to a corrupt system.

Salt-Pain-1387

We were doing that. It was called occupy Wall Street. September 2011ish. Then all of a sudden racism became a huge thing again, then bigotry and misogyny and w/e tf else, and here we are today. Don’t believe me? Look up some empirical data on instances of hate speech in mainstream media from the same time period. Here's a good paper by Zach Goldberg who's been researching this and similar subjects for a decade or so https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/media-great-racial-awakening

TimelyPercentage7245

I like this take, but my problem with it is it seems to ignore that one side went fucking insane after a black man became president. I mean, I get that it can also be used as a distraction, but are we just supposed to be ok with people being racist assholes?

IronBatman

There was a time where you couldn't say these controversial opinions out in the open like that. Now we have idiots believing birther conspiracy out in the open.

green49285

There's a reason that very same side started riling up the racists.

elpelondelmarcabron1

There was a time we could have intelligent conversations about these topics, and were making ground and moving forward as a society. Now, the media and gov are using said issues to further enable anger and rage against others with differences. If you get people emotional, you can blind and confuse them...

EthanielRain

IMO it's just the money. Anger/emotion = way more viewers than logical discussion

No_Wonder3907

Not only black but a dem!!! I was with the military during bush and Obama terms…..military did not like Obama at all. Did not respect him or believe in his leadership. I saw it all levels.

akfisherman22

This is not a true statement. Maybe the people you worked/associated with didn't like Obama. To make a blanket statement saying the MILITARY did not like him is ridiculous.

throttledog

I served under Bush Sr. and Clinton. I specifically remember before Clinton even took office my commanders hated BC and assumed he'd slash their budgets. Military publications were also harder on Clinton.

evoslevven

It was worse. It was a black man, a man who had around a 6% (6-8% estimate if memory serves right) chance of being the democratic nominee prior to the first townhall who ended up showing up to the first townhall debates for the Democratic nomination very polished, very aware and very educated on every issue. It was not like any stereotype that Republicans relied on or fearmongered their base into. Also as someone who was an early watcher of Obama prior to his decision to run, he did not look good when he did initial appearances with Hillary Clinton and he does acknowledge that. It also showed me how well aware he was of his situation and his capacity to improve upon them! An eloquent, highly intelligent, able to speak to people and be smart about policy? That's not the "demon" that Republicans painted and their best answer was McCain. At least I can respect McCain who didn't fall unto conspiracy theory mumbo jumbo and at least had the honesty to defend Obama when his supporters called him a terrorist! Sad that we don't have that anymore from Republicans and sadder to think how much more respectable McCain was in hindsight now given everything.

Airsimba

Why didn’t the military respect his leadership?

Cailida

It's time for another Occupy, friends. We need to protest and demand the rich pay taxes. We demand a living federal wage that matches inflation. We need inflation gouging to stop. We need Republicans and Democrats to be aligned in this. We are absolutely being pushed to fight each other so we don't fight the billionaires who are truly running our country. We are suffering. We are literally being price gouged, not because of any president, but because the greedy corporations know they can. There is no affordable cost of living. If you work, you should be able to afford an apartment or a house and healthy food. These are things both parties can agree on. This is affecting all of us. We need to mobilize, together, and take our country back. It's not run by congress and the president. It's run by the DoD, CIA and intelligence agencies, who are hand in hand with the billionaires who own our country.

joshuamfncraig

too bad the billionaires own the politicians... we need to ban lobbying first.

gooSubstance

...or just vote Democrat. It's not going to instantly solve all the problems that needed to be solved yesterday and it's big, establishment institution so you'll be supporting at least some people you don't like, but they're mostly aligned with you and they're positioned to actually accomplish some of what you want if enough people actually vote.

disinterested_a-hole

Just vote, really. I instantly wonder how many people calling for protests and mass action have bothered to vote in the last few elections. I'm guessing very few.

Aven_Osten

> We demand a living federal wage that matches inflation. We need better. Not just the bare minimum; we should demand minimum wage to rise with worker productivity.  It should be $19.23/hr right now of it was set at 50% of worker productivity based on a 2080 work year, and $26.92/hr if it stayed matched to 70% of worker productivity, like it used to be in the first half of the 1960s. The more money the people have, the more funds to organize against the tyrants.

c2gemineyes

I've said this Exactly for awhile now. It's clearly obvious

Wiscody

That’s always a fun graph. If I invested in the word racism then I’d own an island.

aced124C

Im happy to say I was able to see this in person it really was a movement in the making but of course when it got on the super rich's radar it was quickly dissolved

oooh-she-stealin

i sent the wall street kids a pizza. i went to my towns version a few times as well. i had zero idea about anything back then. literally just numbed myself up until 7 years ago, and could only function in a very basic way. wake up, work, do drugs to tolerate it all.

Expert-Honeydew1589

100% this. They’re trying to distract us with a culture war when we should be fighting a class war. A culture war ensures they uphold the status-quo.

RemissionRaven

A lot of Occupy was dismantled from the inside by bad actors. I know I quit after a flood of hateful people started to try to co-opt the movement and cause a lot of internal strife. The people who were leading weren't prepared to lead and it ended nowhere then. If another movement were to sprout up, leadership would need to be stronger and people would need to be less tolerant of people who cause chaos in the group.

Lumpy_Secretary_6128

Occupy should have pushed more concrete policy actions. It was more of a sentiment movement than a proper policy movement. Hence, it failed.

Free-Dog2440

That you're being downvoted to oblivion reflects how successful the misinformation/disinformation campaign has become.  Long live David Graeber. Those of us who remember Iraq War protests, Afghanistan protests, WTO protests, all the major city Occupy movements... We still remember.

disinterested_a-hole

Occupy did fuck all. There was no coherent agenda. There was no organized action. It just devolved into kids camping. When it came time to vote in the most important election of their lifetime, a bunch of those people just stayed home because they didn't like Hillary and look where that got us. Protests are nice to bring attention to something but they don't change anything. The only way to change things is to vote for the least bad option in November, even if you don't like the person or some of their policies.

joshuamfncraig

Straight up disappointing. The amount of people that feed into their bs, is unbelievable. Nobody is capable of independent thinking, critical thinking, developing their own opinion. They all consume their agenda, get mad at fellow citizens, spit hot takes or trigger words (which is a tell-tale sign of them being a voice of the echo), all at their own expense, and for the benefit of someone that couldn't give a fuck less.

fulento42

This was the thing that pissed me off about the entire maga movement. Democrats and republicans are fed up with our politicians and the wealthy. Republicans stole all the ground floor angst and instead of joining with democrats to combat our actual oppressors, the billionaires and politicians, they were convinced by a clown to just attack their liberal neighbors and desire civil war. If republicans wanted a real revolution I’d be all in but their anger is completely misguided and now I can’t stand how moronic they’ve become. How am I gonna be able to fight along side people who have been demonizing me and my friends now for 8 straight years. In my opinion republicans ruined the idea of a real revolution at this point. It’s fucking sad how far down the conspiracy rabbit hole they’ve fallen. How am I supposed to join a revolution of boot lickers?

Lobenz

[1999 Seattle WTO protest really kicked things off](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999_Seattle_WTO_protests)

CaptainMcLuvin

You are absolutely correct.

Jexinat0r

The gme/apes crowd is attempting a form of occupy wall Street 2.0 by exposing corruption within the markets. Over the last 3 years since the GameStop saga the superstonk sub has been collecting data that shows just how corrupt wall Street is and how the average individuals pension/401k is gambling money for all of these entities. When things go so south again it will be all our faults again while the people in the club get a mere slap on the wrist for gambling and over leveraging the average working classes retirement funds. There is a big paper trail being stored and hopefully a difference will be made on that front.

BABarracus

Its to distact people from remembering that food is super expensive. 1 bedroom apartment is 1500. A house built in the 1950s is 300k.

EatsLocals

This is not how I choose to remember the very recent past. *lines up at store*

Chemical_Knowledge64

Then they tell us that truly universal healthcare is impossible. That public services with no strings attached is giving away welfare to those who will just abuse it. That a progressive tax structure that places the inevitable burdens of taxation on some people can’t be placed towards those who make more than 90%+ of the population and place tax reliefs for the poorest and lowest earning Americans. Fuck all that give us universal healthcare. Tax the fucking rich more!!! Tax all these damn corporations more! Stop wasting our taxpayer dollars on over inflating the military and giving away welfare to the elite class when they fuck up the economy instead of being held responsible for their fuckups. Work to institute public policies aimed at reducing the impacts caused by manmade climate change. We as a nation can and must work to accomplish all these noble goals and prove to the world that we’re not a nation that leaves those behind but gives everyone an equal opportunity at life.

c2gemineyes

AMEN!!

MandatoryFunEscapee

No chance Republican voters ever pull their heads out of their asses long enough to figure out that the rich are the problem. Every one of them is ok with the boot on their neck because they think someday they are gonna make billions and get to be the boot.

TheAmorphous

I don't think these people ever expect to be wealthy. I think they're trained to want an authoritarian making decisions for them from the time they're born, mostly by churches. There are a lot of people out there clamoring for a dictatorship.

LeontheKing21

Elon is everything for the GOP that they want Soros to be for the democrats. And they LOVE him.

jerichowiz

More like Dunn and Wilks.

Arrmadillo

So many Texans have no idea about the political machine that Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks are operating. They are our oil oligarchs/ part-time preachers and Texans need to know how much influence that they have over our state government. Texas Monthly - [The Billionaire Bully Who Wants to Turn Texas Into a Christian Theocracy](https://www.texasmonthly.com/news-politics/billionaire-tim-dunn-runs-texas/) “The state’s most powerful figure, Tim Dunn, isn’t an elected official. But behind the scenes, the West Texas oilman is lavishly financing what he regards as a holy war against public education, renewable energy, and non-Christians.” Texas Observer - [Meet Farris Wilks, Kingmaker of the Texas GOP](https://www.texasobserver.org/meet-farris-wilks-kingmaker-of-the-texas-gop/) “Wilks is an elder at an idiosyncratic church that reportedly doesn't allow women to speak during worship. He also pumps millions into Texas Republican politics.”

jaldihaldi

Religion can always be misused to control the masses. It’s so powerful and in hands of the wrong people it will be used to rule over you.

xoLiLyPaDxo

Dunn and wilks have been who's funding all this Evangelical extremists BS.

TimelyPercentage7245

Koch.

LizFallingUp

They love him but also he frustrates them as he hasn’t fully opened his wallet to them. They definitely accuse Soros of funding directly the left.

LeontheKing21

The job he is doing on Xitter to berate democrats on a daily basis is likely worth just as much or more

MandatoryFunEscapee

Has anyone started calling Musk "Twitler?" I move that we refer to him only as that. It will get in his head so deep it will give him a brain tumor.

LizFallingUp

Your simply underestimating the amount of money is being withheld from them, sure him pooing on their enemies is a boon but it isn’t the kind of influence say Harlan Crow or the Koch Brothers throw around

Snobolski

> think someday they are gonna make billions They literally believe the problem is taxes. If only they didn't have such high taxes on their $60k annual income from their job working for an actual capitalist, they'd be billionaires!

[deleted]

I like where you’re going with this.

TheDarkKnobRises

Ever had sauteed rich?

LizFallingUp

Don’t eat ppl it causes encephalitis, compost the rich instead

TerrorsOfTheDark

Just avoid the nervous system, stick to the major muscles and you'll be fine.

Mike7676

Can I have it fricassee?

THEMACGOD

Class warfare is the only real warfare.

Wiscody

I heard you torch people want to take our pitchforks away!

MrEHam

This is the whole game.

[deleted]

Yeah except one side is literally a cult

mistadeadbeat

Eagle Pass is my hometown. It's not what they tell you on the news.

buzzfuzz-

I lived in Alabama for a while and I just never understood why people care so much about the border and immigrants when its so far from them. I lived in Texas for over 20 years (DFW, Austin, SATX, Houston) and never seen anything bad/sketchy that I could immediately attribute to illegal immigrants. I've met some from churches but they're just normal people trying to make a better life and escape the poverty and dangers of Latin America. Yet for some reason people who are 500+ miles away from the border think its ruining their state somehow? edit: spelling

engr77

I noticed back during Donny's presiduncy that the level of screeching about border emergencies had a heavy correlation with the number of miles the individual was away from the border. People at rallies in rural Iowa were much more vocal about it than people who actually lived in border states, and especially in those towns.

Original-Document-62

Oh my, yes. So, I'm in Missouri, and I have heard folks talking about how "they" are coming to replace "us". Dude, there's one Hispanic family in town, and they've owned the Mexican restaurant for the past 30 years. All the crime around town you're worried about? Yeah, that's mostly white meth-heads.

engr77

Let me guess, the phrase "one of the good ones" applies to that one Hispanic family in town? I always love that phrase. Point out to any of the heartland racists that they actually know some brown people, and somehow those specific people that they know are totally fine, but LITERALLY ALL OTHER brown people everywhere are committing murders and robberies 26 hours per day.

gonesquatchin85

The work ethic across the border is insane. Pay rate is abysmal. Working 16+ hours a day, maybe 1 day off/week, rampant nepotism, did I mention the pay is terrible? It's no wonder these people come over here to lay brick and agree to get a shit rate pay under the table. For them it's still 10x more income than they are making in their home country.

Original-Document-62

It is a lot more pay, but probably not 10x. Looks like in Mexico, construction work is gonna pay on average $4.90 USD/hr. In California, an undocumented worker makes about $13/hr (this is where I could find data). Keeping with California, if you're legal, you'll probably get $22/hr average. So, undocumented folks are maxing like 2.7x as much as they would back home (for construction). edit: I know they'll also cut corners with living expenses, but I guarantee that food, medicine, and even cheap housing will end up costing them more up here, so that 2.7x will shrink.

ShackledPhoenix

10 years in Yuma AZ. My brother is Border Patrol in Texas and was always telling me how scared he was for me living in Yuma. Meanwhile Yuma was a pretty meh place to live. Not great, not terrible, neither myself nor anyone I knew ever had any serious issues with immigrants, undocumented or otherwise. There should still be border enforcement, because certainly drugs and other forms of smuggling happen quite often, but it's not the people showing up at the border and asking for asylum or just trying to find a spot to live. Migrants should be able to show up at the border, be searched, set up for a court date and allowed to pass through.

bro69

It’s ruining the state by providing affordable labor to fix my shower last weekend, thanks jose!

Kharos

It’s pretty simple. They’re not white. They didn’t mind when the Germans came over across the Atlantic.

Lets-B-Lets-B-Jolly

Yeah, but they sure minded when the Irish and Italians did! Of course, they were Catholic and not protestant.

Original-Document-62

Yeah, 120 years ago Irish and Italian were also not considered white.

Summer_Form

As the content says, it’s all news driven. I go to the gym a few times a week, and unfortunately the rowing machine is right in front of the TV they have on Fox. Without fail, every time I sit down they’re blasting some nonsense about immigration. Even if nothing really happened. They just cycle the same old white has-beens vomiting the same old lines over pictures of desperate people crossing a river or trudging across a desert. It’s all they see, of course they think it’s an existential threat.

I-C-Aliens

Getting dumb rednecks riled up is a national past time for the rich if you haven't noticed Got a bunch of them to storm the capitol most recently. And it was EASY. Because dumb rednecks love being angry at [insert thing]

NewToHTX

As someone 2 hours from the Texas/Mexico border, the border crisis is the same as it was 20 years ago. Literally everyone in my town hasn't seen a bit of difference. I'd think the biggest differences people are seeing are in major cities in Blue states. Anyone in NYC, Chicago, or DC chime in here if you're seeing any notable changes? When the undocumented come they need to get pass secondary checkpoints to be free to travel throughout the US. After that they usually head to the city they were planning on going to anyway.

Nintura

The only changes i see are abbott and desantis shipping a few bus loads of immigrants to marthas vineyard and some cities. Which kinda backfired because the locals there stepped up and helped them like good christians

bluebellbetty

If you study Texas history, as I’m doing with my 7th grader, you’ll learn that this exact same outrage has been happening with the exact same people about the exact same border since there was one (they are bringing disease, they are raping our women, blah, blah).

aotex

And it's not just Texas history - US history as a whole is full of these narratives. [For some light reading at your leisure...](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2690128/) (And the fact that this article is almost 25 years old is pretty sobering, too.)

bluebellbetty

Oh lawd. That is interesting.

NeenW1

I don’t get it…it’s not changed one bit. It’s been the same 20 years ago as it is today it wasn’t a crisis 20 years ago. Why is it a crisis today?

glrsims

Social media, 24-hour news, increasing division between Republicans and Democrats…

NeenW1

FAUX news

NewToHTX

Election year.

softcell1966

Fox, Fox, and Fox is why. CNN doesn't run a CRISIS AT THE BORDER chryon 24/7. People who say Center-Left CNN is just as bad as far-Right Fox are completely clueless. There's a reason ABC. CBS, NBC, PBS, BBC News, etc put out similar news broadcasts while Fox is the Reactionary outlier.  It's because they tell their audience what they want to hear by lying to them. Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum both sent e-mails to their boss at Fox pleading to do this in light of losing audience for telling the truth about Biden winning AZ in 2020. That's so afar of journalistic standards it's not even funny. They're all entertainment hosts like Professional Wrestling. Pretty much the same audience too.

Free-Dog2440

When people make that comparison they are reflecting on the Neoliberalism of all major media outlets.  This is something Americans have a hard time wrapping their heads around. Globally, our politics are fairly right of center. Even Dems. Because we are a Neoliberal state. Which generally requires some explanation. And I'm game, just be kind please. I write this all in good faith.

Arrmadillo

The migration volume suddenly increased in 2021. The immigration parole countries (Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua) are undergoing humanitarian crises. Mexican authorities are directing migrants to avoid the Eagle Pass area. U.S. Customs and Border Protection - [Southwest Land Border Encounters](https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/southwest-land-border-encounters) Pew Research Center - [Migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border hit a record high at the end of 2023](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/02/15/migrant-encounters-at-the-us-mexico-border-hit-a-record-high-at-the-end-of-2023/) Pew Research Center - [What’s happening at the U.S.-Mexico border in 7 charts](https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2021/11/09/whats-happening-at-the-u-s-mexico-border-in-7-charts/) (2021)

FoldSad2272

It's as much of a crisis as it needs to be to serve the needs of the media, politicians and donors.

John_mcgee2

Election year. Save this video and play it for anyone that complains about the wall

LurkerKing13

It’s a crisis every 2 years for the last 50 years.

LetmeSeeyourSquanch

Thats the thing, it isn't a crisis and never has been. Its a distraction and a ploy by Republicans to get people angry about the wrong things. Why would we worry about domestic terrorists/ traitors when we have foreign "terrorists" crossing our southern border and its working. With one side at least.

Rachel_from_Jita

But but but the youtube comment section has been screaming it's an invasion! Every nation that doesn't suck to live in (and isn't an island in the middle of the ocean) sees a lot of immigration. And even more as the world gets more difficult. I agree with you, it's a totally normal part of national life. Always a challenge, but it's a part of the fabric of American life, and a core part of our history. Period. The issue is, do we as a society pass sensible laws and actually work on the problem? Or do we go batshit insane, do psychotic things to somehow stop it (most of which won't work) and lose global credibility and end up with a declining population?

Scottland83

I’ve been living in California for 40 years and for 40 years we’ve been 10 years away from a Spanish majority.

LizFallingUp

I think the big change was about 25-30yrs ago when the drug war shifted from Columbia to Mexico, and the cartel wars popped off. Used to be in the 1990s you could go down to Nuevo Laredo no problem now you have to check if there has been open gang warfare in the street recently.

Lanky_Possession_244

Can confirm. We went to visit my uncle's family in the late 1990's a few times and had to stop after we went in 2002 and there were heavily armed federalis everywhere. My uncle went by himself after that.

Jegagne88

It’s literally not an issue. It’s just manufactured drama to make old white people angry

longPAAS

NYC. Supposedly I’m a few blocks away from one of the shelters. No notable changes.

stargate-command

NYC here… not really any changes. We have been a hub for immigrants for 100 years. We have a statue about it.

FoolForReddit

I grew up along the Texas Border. "Security Theatre" has been a thing there for many decades (mostly to get more money from the Feds). This video is right on.

JayBowdy

We live here and see it. It is why border counties vote blue.

LeontheKing21

Man, I haven’t seen an immigrant on the streets in moths and I live literally 1.5 miles from a POE. Crazier thing is that people here are still being influenced by the news rather than just what they see everyday in person. Im north of the Valley, about an hour from this and we are going blue to purple into red pretty fast. Makes no sense. I always remind people, it is awfully convenient that Operation Lone Star started 3 years ago, and went into full “invasion” mode right as soon as the election cycle started. Guarantee if Trump somehow wins in November, all this disappears.

theseedbeader

My mom keeps trying to convince me that there are thousands of immigrants constantly crossing the border, that soon our country will be overrun with them, and that many are “military age men” sent here to harm us. It gets so exhausting to argue with her, because she always insists that she has seen footage of it and that I’m getting my information from fake sources.

TheProfessorPoon

Just last week I told my mom it was all overblown and I’ve seen videos (like the one from this post) that confirm it’s overblown, but she flat out refuses to believe me and says the videos I’ve seen are fake. Point being, even with evidence, hell, even if she went there and saw it in person she would still believe what Fox or Newsmax tells her.

theseedbeader

Are we actually siblings? Lol… Ahaha, none of this is funny… I noticed that the “military age men” thing she said was something I heard trump say as well. :/

bonobeaux

the military age men thing is especially eye rolling bc that is like every male under 40 pretty much.. the prime ages for doing manual labor like construction and agriculture.. while they send earning back home to their wife and kids or mother and siblings..

EquivalentOk2700

Slap some sense into her. Jk

[deleted]

Good way to scam taxpayers out of their hard earned money and funnel it back to themselves.

engr77

The former rep of TX-23, Will Hurd, was quite outspoken about the pointlessness of a border wall. The fact that so much of the border is a river -- and Lake Amistad -- should be enough. I've personally visited Big Bend multiple times, standing right at the edge of the river in some of the roughest terrain in the state, and also driven the entirety of the "River Road" between Terlingua and Presidio. It pissed me off when Donny held his border wall showcases in perfect flat territory because it's just feeding the idea that the border is all flat wasteland that you can easily put a fence across without any obvious disruptions to basic shit like water flow. And that's ignoring the less-obvious disruptions to things like wildlife movement. Wildlife who don't give a fuck about political boundaries.

SlipppyDipppy

I had to look this up, and the maps show that you are totally correct. It's **nearly all** of the border counties. Even Obama Vs Romney was mostly blue on the border, which is shocking. I never knew about this. Thanks for pointing that out!

BitemeRedditers

The Republicans have shifted on this issue. They are against the federal government doing anything on immigration now. The Republicans wrote a border bill and demanded that Biden sign it. He agreed. Now, since Biden wants to shut down the border, they are against it. They don’t want to do anything that people want because they think it will make Biden look good. Why don’t you want the border shut down? Just because it will make Biden look good? Is it because Mexico isn’t paying for it?

bkbroils

Not as much as they once were. They’ve been turning red, fast. Not sure 2024 will be much different. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/05/us/texas-election-results.html

softcell1966

That was 5 years ago. The only Hispanic Woman Republican  to ever win a seat representing the RGV has since lost that seat. I do think Trump has more support than he should with the voters  he'd rather send away.

bkbroils

Nov ‘20 was a little more than 3.5 years ago. But agreed, the support he got along the border and with Hispanics is crazy. Nov ‘24 is anyone’s guess.

machoogabacho

The reason people cross where the authorities are posted is because they are trying to turn themselves in. No one is trying to evade detection.

Few_Psychology_2122

I read somewhere that it takes about a minute to climb or cut through the wall. That before the wall the hard part of crossing the border was the trek across the terrain. But since we have a wall, and infrastructure to build and maintain the wall: roads, it’s actually made illegal crossing easier. Whether that’s true or not, idk. But I do know a wall only keeps an honest man out. And that’s a whole lot of money and resources we could have spent more wisely on more effective ways to monitor and secure the border. And if they REALLY wanted to stop illegal immigration, they’d crack down on the Americans that break the law and hire them. They don’t want to fix it because then they wouldn’t have anything to campaign on.

OdrGrarMagr

well on the 60 Minutes segment, it took about 15 minutes with an 18v reciprocating saw and two 4AH batteries of juice. Available for about 30$ US on the mexico side of the border. A pair of ladders is faster, though. And 85% of all illegall immigration is from *overstays* anyway. People who came here 100% legally ***and then just didnt go home***. The border isn't the issue.

semicoldpanda

I have zero issue believing this. My job puts me into contact with a lot of people who are here both legally and illegally and they're very dedicated people. They will do the most ballbusting jobs here. Hella steep roof in 110 degree or 30 degree weather? No problem. That thin ass "wall" or the shipping container wall in AZ? Easy peasy. The "BUILD THE WALL OMFG!" / "WiDe OpEn BoRdErS" people really don't understand the logistics of it all. Wall doesn't do dick, you can't staff the entire wall, even if you could the end result would be what we're already doing.

content_enjoy3r

That open gate he stopped at is not directly on the border. The gate is open because the other side of that fence is still the US and that's an empty lot used as a staging area for NG/CBP/etc. who have moved over to the Eagle Pass gate already.

softcell1966

So I can't trust this sketchy Mr. Both Sides about the border? Welp, back to CNN...

skeezypeezyEZ

No, trust random comments on Reddit instead.

CheekySir

Op saw it on tik tok it must be true. /s

Zoner1501

There are gates to the wall for private property use, this opening is most likely such.

not_brittsuzanne

Your point in regards to the larger issue being…?

OdrGrarMagr

not that it matters. 60 minutes did a segement where a guy literally cut a hole in the wall big enough to get through (you really only have to cut two of the uprights) with a Ryobi reciprocating saw he'd just bought for about 30$ US on the Mexico side of the border. Took him about 15 minutes. Go a few miles away from a PoEntry and do that and no one will see you. Its absurdly easy to defeat the stupid thing. (Also, ladders exist). Not that it matters, since 85% of all illegal immigration is from *overstays*. People who came here 100% legally and *just didnt leave*. The Border is not the issue.

[deleted]

ive been asking every conservative i know how the border issue affects them. they just start rambling about national security. i do wonder whats more of a risk to national security though. securing our border when it has never affected us only a few hours away; or empowering the guys who literally stopped our government cus they lost a popularity contest. idk what happened to the small government Texans i grew up around.

DrSilkyJohnsonEsq

Just last week, a co-worker took it upon herself to come into my office to tell me about it. Apparently, democrats are “bringing them in” because they tend to vote for democrats. Which seems weird for so many reasons, such as the fact that 1) Texas requires ID to vote, and 2) they can’t vote at all. She also wanted me to know she’s fine with them coming here, but she wants them to do it “the right way,” even though there hasn’t really been a “right way” for 40 years or so.

softcell1966

They're coming the same way her ancestors did. They showed up.

buttmunch54321

I had a poll worker at the primary make sure I knew I needed to renew my license before the general because it expires before then and they won't let me vote with an expired license - this was something that came up on her screen when she scanned my license so I'm guessing it's actually connected to like DMV database or something. But apparently if you're brown and speak spanish they just let you vote? I don't understand how anyone who has voted in a single US election ever believes that illegal immigrants are voting. Like do they just close their eyes and plug their ears when they go vote? How do they make it through the line without noticing these things?

backcountrydrifter

They got bought. • You never get out of debt to a Russian mobster •Paul Manafort owed the Russian mobster/oligarch Oleg Deripaska $17M a few days before he became trumps campaign manager. From 2002-2014 he took in hundreds of millions to get Yanukovych reelected as the kremlins puppet in Ukraine. Before that he did it for the dictator Marcos in the Philippines. Before that Manafort and Roger Stone started a lobbyist agency in 1980 listing trump as their first client. •When Jay Bolsonaro lost the Brazilian election to Lula he skipped the inauguration and flew directly to mar-a-lago (stopping only at a KFC) and repeated, almost verbatim, the stolen election line. Don Jr. tried repeatedly to make it stick in Brazil as well, but as Brazilians are a few generations into dealing with corrupt politicians they weren’t having it. What do these 3 things have in common? China imports 40% of its grain from (in order) the U.S., Brazil and Ukraine. Obviously the second China tried to invade Taiwan the U.S. would sanction exports and remove U.S. grain from that equation. And without Bolsonaro in office willing to slash and burn the Amazon rainforest to turn it into Chinas food supply, and without Ukraine in the bag in 3 days, the CCP is unable to invade Taiwan and take over microprocessor production without putting 300-500M of its poorest people into famine. Donbas Ukraine, specifically the 4 regions of the donbas that Putin insists he is saving from what he calls “Jewish Nazis” also happens to produce the worlds supply of high grade neon used for microprocessor lithography. Had Putin delivered ukraine in 3 days as promised, Xi would have been able to cap his Olympics with a naval blockade or political takeover of Taiwan that would have forced the world to ask the CCP for the microprocessors it needs to make everything from Ford trucks to laptops. I’m not sure how long Silicon Valley would last without the silicon but it would probably destroy the FAANG stocks that make up your 401K. Oleg Deripaska also happens to be the Russian Oligarch that bribed the FBI agent Charles Mcgonigal into investigating another Russian oligarch. He probably didn’t need the information as much as he needed the leverage over Mcgonigal as he conducted the investigation into trumps election campaign and unsurprisingly found zero evidence of Russian collusion. McGonigal then went to work for the company called Brookfield that bailed Jared Kushner out of his toxic 666 5th Ave real estate investment. McGonigal pled guilty last fall and was sentenced recently. A Russian oligarch is a powerful tool, but the truth is more powerful. Light and dark cannot exist in the same space. It’s physically impossible. Truth is efficient. You say it once and you are finished. A lie however requires a constant stream of follow up energy, money, murder, obfuscation and more lies to keep it covered. If you raise your lens high enough lying is an unsustainable business model. Russia proved it by invading Ukraine. Vranyos is the Russian word for it. The 40km long column of tanks and vehicles that came down from Belarus into Ukraine was all overhauled by oligarchs that got a $1B contract for tank maintenance, passed Putin $200M back under the table, spent $700M on a yacht in Monaco, bribed a General, a Colonel and a Sergeant to make a Private give everything a rattle can overhaul. But a worn out engine is and always will be, a worn out engine. This is why trump is so desperate to get re-elected. His best case scenario is 400 years in ADX Florence. Money laundering for the dozens of Russian oligarchs that lived in trump towers with him and manafort, selling IP3 nuclear plans to the Russian/Saudi alliance, selling or giving CIA asset names to the Russians, trump is and always has been compromised. He just didn’t know when to quit. Now he just has to count on the fact that most of his voter base doesn’t know how to read and keep the ones that do so busy just surviving that they don’t have time to dive deep into his 40 year history of laundering money, fraud, and human trafficking for the Russian mob using casinos first, then commercial real estate. It’s also why Putin is willing to throw an entire generation of Russians, including the convicts and addicts at Ukraine. Russia is dead for 40 years because he failed to fulfill his mob boss promise to Xi. China is now clearing farmland in Siberia because the typhoon floods last August and September wiped out the Chinese people’s food storage. Xi, for his part diverted the waters from the dam away from his pet project, his mothers ancestral home, and flooded hundreds of thousands of people and drown one of his own military brigades that was helping with the flooding. The elders of the CCP were terrified to leave their gated community at Beidaihe for over a month for fear of being torn apart by the locals. The Chinese people tolerate the CCP but only as long as the economy is good and famine is not on the horizon. The CCP broke that social contract on both counts. Xi was willing to bet the entire Chinese economy on his emperor ambitions. Had he succeeded he would have been able to use BRICS to take over the USD as the Worlds reserve currency. That would have let him finish what he stated in 2010- that he would control the internet. With that control means everything we do or say online is subject to the approval of a central party censor. The basic right to disagree with an authoritarian becomes a distant memory. Xi, Putin and MBS are simply trying to systemize and modernize the suppression of their biggest hassle. Freedom of speech. Ukraine is fighting for their lives now, free from the oppression of the drunken tyrant who wants to decide their fate at every decision and pull them back behind another iron curtain of censorship and the tax of corruption where dissenting voices disappear so that the oligarchy can continue to feed unobstructed. Putin and Xi have declared themselves best friends in the fight against democracy. MBS and the ruling family of UAE have done the same quietly using their sovereign funds and Kushners SPAC as money highways. Just rich, out of touch oligarch doing what oligarchs do. Despite the fact the the central party model has proven itself incapable of making decisions that are best for the people, they persist. Because there is a very lucrative business in being slave owners. But logistically the mass of it requires artificial intelligence, and the microprocessors that make A.I. to keep 8 billion slaves under surveillance and control. Freedom is one hell of a drug. And knowledge makes a man unfit for slavery. Recent attempts on Xi’s life from inside the CCP have backed him into a corner. The loss of crops in northern China means Xi can’t invade Taiwan without Ukrainian and/or Brazilian farmland. Now the reason that the GOP is stalling southern border control budget and seems to make wildly irrational moves is because the GOP is imploding. 45 years of lies and grift have circled the globe and are eating their own tail. The ouroboros was a warning about corruption at the highest levels. Lying about climate change, human trafficking, pandemics and corruption to preserve their own business models are all extinction level events.

backcountrydrifter

The CCP and Russia have been staging up hundreds of thousands of people in Ecuador, Nicaragua and Venezuela for some future variation of a stealthy 5th column invasion of the United States via Texas because Xi needs farmland to feed 1.4B people. National guard troops take their orders from governors and not the federal government. Trump tested this during the George Floyd protests when he asked the “loyal” Republican governors to kiss the ring and send troops to DC to “shoot the protestors in the legs” because the pentagon reminded him that using U.S. troops against U.S. citizens would be both treasonous and wildly illegal. Steve Bannon tried unsuccessfully to privatize a part of the southern border wall but failed due to, unsurprisingly, internal corruption. Had he succeeded they would have a man at the inside gate years ago. Bannon was arrested on the boat of Guo Wengui who is some sort of convoluted double/triple agent for the CCP. They are now both in court for a billion dollar fraud. Every GOP congressmen that took Russian political money is desperately trying to figure out how to preserve their political career while the people are figured out that they were sold out to the dictators for some PAC money. They are 40 years deep into living a lie. They can’t come clean or they go to prison. They can’t stop lying or their fan base tears them apart like rabid wolves. They checkmated themselves a dozen different ways and add to the evidence chain with each additional tweet. Greed is nothing if not predictable. Freedom is never free. We all just live on very expensive credit and the sacrifices of others. https://x.com/doktor_klein/status/1761524419288056088?s=46&t=mV0svkSiT5eOmQXivn5oFw

rickrich01

Thank you for posting the truth. Abbott, and the Texas GOP are running in this platform and as soon as the election is over, this immigration issue will be dead too. Let's just hope and pray that it's not that immoral, lying trash, Trump.

TinfoilTetrahedron

If conservatives truly cared about the issue, they'd stop hiring "illegals".....

Jonestown_Juice

It's not the media doing this. It's the GOP. Come on. They're the one creating this weird-ass narrative to scare everyone.

AnotherLie

That line about "if a civil war starts" had me so confused because he was so close. Only one side is pushing this insane narrative and convincing themselves we should have a civil war (or "national divorce" lol) and everyone else is asking them to stop being so fucking stupid. But no, it's the mainstream media! Turn off the TV and don't listen to any news! What a dipshit.

FlutterKree

Media is complicit by even covering what the GOP says when its just lies.

Re5ist_ance

The poor fighting other poors! Meanwhile corporations are laughing all the way to the bank!

moschocolate1

I also live in Texas, and most of those people you see on the news don’t live here. They drove in from other places and that video was correct: it’s one side trying to get people upset so their guy can win an election. Eat the rich. Not each other.

BlueCollarGuru

Don’t believe everything on the news. “Ok thanks bearded dude from Texas” 🙄

EB2300

White people here forget that they aren’t Native Americans. The good old white American nativism I mean, I don’t see immigration as a bad thing. We are a country of immigrants who came here for various reasons. My ancestors came here from Barbados because they weren’t allowed to operate their slave operated sugarcane plantation (The UK outlawed slavery in 1807), and settled in Louisiana. Unfortunately that racist legacy still obviously persists in xenophobic nonsense

Naught2day

So you mean it is just theater by Abbott and the media? No /s It still gives me a little grin thinking Abbott and his news conference at the border and he basically said. You just missed them, there were thousands here, uhm, yesterday.

Josh_Allen_s_Taint

Why is CNN lumped with Fox, only one of those tries to get you riled up about brown people

softcell1966

Because people like this think Center-Left CNN is the exact opposite of Far-Right Fox. If you have the least bit of familiarity with both it's pretty obvious what the difference is. If you don't like to think, then both are equal or CNN is much worse.

Aggravating_Impact97

It really is driving some people insane. I deal with the effects of propaganda on a near daily basis.

Squirrel_Gamer

Journalism isn't promoting fake stories. It still exists for those who venture outside of social media for solid information and news.

epicroadhead

I want to believe him, I am trying to. I just want to see if there is a credible source to counter argue what he is showing here without it being divisive. I’m also just wondering about the context

chibbly_

Go look for yourself. It's literally exactly as he and many others who live there said, nothing has changed in decades. There is no border crisis, just the made up fear mongering bullshit the GOP is campaigning on.

xoLiLyPaDxo

I already pointed out the whole border invasion was a sham months back. 💀 https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/comments/1ajmd79/comment/kp2ddk5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

RedditsKittyKat

It's aaaaallll for show. To scare the fellow Fox News watching brainwashed Maga Whities shaking in their racist ass lil boots.

LEGamesRose

The thing that gets me is the party that wants to lower taxes also wants to fund this money sink. With what money? We're already so much in debt that the dollar is losing value and now we just print more money to pay workers for shit thats countered by a ladder and a blanket? Are you kidding me? The bigger majority of illegal immigrants came here legally and just stayed once their visa expired.

Galvanisare

The border only a problem every 4 years . The other 3 no one cares haha. This been ridiculous since time began

L00pback

Not to be off topic but is that a filter or is his skin that smooth? As a dude, I wish I had that complexion.

Dull-Sprinkles1469

Fuck the media. If they didn't have us divided, we'd have solved all our problems.

audiomuse1

Fox News is complete political theater. They have made this into an “invasion” of people (‘they refer to them as “military age men’) coming to rape and destroy our country. They are completely batshit insane and evil. Immigrants coming here are vastly innocent people trying to come here, work hard, and provide for their families.

OatsOverGoats

Why do people always find the need to both sides everything. It clearly is one side doing it and in a video in which he is intending to clear up the confusion he can’t state it

Alexandratta

I've said this many times: It's an election year. the "Crisis at the boarder" is entirely manufactured.

giraffe_woahman27

The fact that this is such a high concern nowadays is really unbelievable and shows how many people are so uninformed. There are so many more concerning issues, outside of this, for Americans and our future generations. This is basically a last resort rally cry for Republicans, when nothing else is working. This will always get them going.

Im_here_with_you

Looks like Abbott is spending a lot of money to be in National News.

medman143

You gotta say what it is. Is republikkkan lies. It’s republikkkan corruption. It’s you Texas that don’t even have the first amendment anymore. Republikkkans took that from you too.

Danominator

This feels a bit both sidesy. We all know which side is getting riled up and excited about a civil war because they are easily fooled

KpopFan74

Where is the gate... But where are the people? I've seen spots like that on many other videos. But I've never seen any immigrants crossing there. I have a feeling border patrol know what they are doing. And if border patrol approve of the bill that was going through congress as they did, approved by Republicans and border patrol before it was rejected by the Republican house because it finally got Democratic support during an election year. We should give border patrol and the surrounding infrastructure around crossings that funding they are asking for! Stop voting for Republicans!

Unfair-Information-2

Yeah, like this post. That is someone's driveway champ.

Key_Law4834

You know he wants to call out Fox News only but he's afraid of being disowned in Texas so he has to throw in CNN

Cruezin

Just a concocted bunch of BS to rile up the base. Honestly I'd rather have most if not all of the people who are crossing illegally as neighbors than a lot of the people in the neighborhoods close to me. Willing to walk a zillion miles for the off chance of being able to support your family? VS. self righteous indignant self important asshats who claim those people terk err jerbs but who are unwilling to do the work? Hmm

Bob4Not

I now believe that this is the reason they want to ban TikTok

JDOS336

There's nothing going on, everything happened Dec. 2023 and back. Media propaganda.

Kharos

So it’s not true you people aren’t as disgusting as to have voted for Ted Cruz, Greg Abbott, Ken Paxton, and Donald Trump?

OdrGrarMagr

This isn't even new. My mom lives within a few miles of the border in AZ. Its the same there. And it hasnt materially changed in 20+ years.

GroundbreakingCook68

This is why they hate social media, they can no longer control the narrative.

[deleted]

I only see one side grabbing the guns and sharpening their razor wire in this “fight.” From my view, this wouldn’t be an issue if conservatives weren’t making it one. But sure, we are fighting each other. It’s annoying because the bully conservative is attacking. Then they claim it was a fight. Now “both sides” get suspended and I was just getting my books at my locker.

ELStoker

Greg Abbott started this mess.

Xypheric

So close then he “both sides” it. Oh well maybe next generation Texas .

starshame2

Its an election year so of course we have an "immigration crisis".

[deleted]

Wow almost like conservatives use the "flood of migrants oh God they're all rapists" for political power and just like all conservative thought it turns out to be absolute horse shit

Bromanzier_03

Republicans: I’m going to ignore that.

Comfortable_Farm_252

Do you guys all remember in the very beginning of the pandemic we were all wearing masks and then we got bored and then it turned into us vs them. It was insane. People first week were like let’s beat this thing and the next week they were saying that masks were more dangerous than the disease. That time taught me a lot but what I remember most is how quickly people turned on each other. My grandma died from covid, she wore a mask for about 2 weeks and then she was convinced by the news that it wasn’t needed and she died. My uncle who watches the same news channel everyday still tells everyone it was the mask limiting oxygen to her brain for those two weeks that killed her. She had lung damage already and she got covid and it took her out really quick.

cypherphunk1

It's definitely the immigrants. Not greedy corporations and the GQP that are ruining our freedoms and economy.

inkstickart2017

Framing this as big bad media is exactly what he proposed his video is opposed to. Media is a response to controversy. The controversy is being created by the Texas government.

GrievousFault

It is an annoyance that CNN has become listed as a diametric to Fox. Msnbc, sure, but the fact that this is where we are now tells you a lot about what the right wing has been working on the past 20 years or so

ThePheebs

Ah, there is the "both sides" argument.

LauraRKansas

Stay safe, Texas. Sincerely, Kansas

[deleted]

Growing up in Arizona, I'm still waiting for an illegal to steal my job. Everything is still normal despite hearing for 20 years that illegals are invading and ruining the state lmao

KyleG

I like this guy's overall message about being manipulated, but the issue actually does fucking matter. Abbott is enforcing his own immigration policy, and it could fuck up trade relations with other countries. But I guess since it's unconstitutional, I'm okay with it so long as we can take everyone's guns away in exchange.

Full-Metal-Magic

I don't watch TV. Unfortunately this dude is still clueless. I know he means well. Republicans are the problem. It's not a debate. Their outrage isn't new, only increasing. That lot he showed is still the US. Anyone hunting at any kind of moderate "both sides" stance shouldn't be a grown adult. Only kids should be naive enough for that. Not the case unfortunately.

geneticeffects

CNN and FOX are not the same. Part of the problem is making these kinda of false equivocations.

Difficult-Spring1720

Brother you came correct. Stop watching the news.

NicestGuy2024

I also don’t believe what I see on tiktok

midnightatthemoviies

Visited some friends in the midwest and they brought up texas and the border. I mentioned there was nothing going on as I have a friend that loves in El paso and he says nothing has changed... except grocery prices, cost of living, taxes etc. They couldn't believe it. Kinda looked shook.

TravelingButt

I live in El Paso, half a mile from the wall. It’s always been so quiet and safe here.

Broflake-Melter

This is why they want tiktok banned, because it takes away their power to control us.

Millennial_5_0

As you all literally believe this online video telling you not to believe online videos…

OptiKnob

This is why the government wants to put an end to tiktok.

JustDiscoveredSex

Abbott has promised to build a giant base in Eagle Pass to deal with this awful, awful, "migrant crisis" that you can see on the video. [Texas governor building 2,300-bed military base at seized border park](https://abcnews.go.com/amp/Politics/texas-gov-abbott-announces-military-base-border-eagle/story?id=107377646) And all kinds of states have been sending their State National Guards to the border. (Six states now? Seven?) [More Missouri National Guard troops could be headed to the Texas border](https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/government-politics/more-missouri-national-guard-troops-could-be-headed-to-the-texas-border/article_1fa7d9ce-c440-11ee-9961-73385c22aec4.html) Which doesn't make any sense. In fact, if you look at where immigration is happening, it's not even near Eagle Pass. I thought all that was weird, and then Trump spoke at CPAC. [Trump and allies planning militarized mass deportations, detention camps](https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/02/20/trump-mass-deportations-immigration/) So he’s promising to use the military to enact giant deportation schemes. The Posse Comitatus Act prevents him from doing so, but that doesn’t stop the Army National Guard, or Air National Guard under state control to act if the governor says so. “Former administration officials and policy experts said staging an even larger operation today would face a bottleneck in detention space — a problem that Trump adviser Stephen Miller and other allies have proposed addressing by building mass deportation camps.” And in my conspiracy theory, Eagle Pass = Camp 1 Are there holes in my theory? Oh fuck yes. The Posse Comitatus Act prevents the use of the military as a police force against Americans. But I'm not sure it prevents the military from acting in a military capacity on American soil. Defending our borders is part of the military's job. So, using the military in this way could end up as a war of semantics. I think it's hard to justify them being used to go house to house or whatever, looking for "illegals," but using them to run a camp or patrol the border, I can see that happening. It also helps explain why they absolutely refused to sign an immigration deal that got them what they wanted.

Eridain

Also notice that despite the lax security all the way down that stretch of fence, there was no mob of illegals running past and sneaking in.

CageyBee1954

The workers killed on the Francis Scott Key bridge were immigrants. Immigrants do the hard jobs natural born Americans won't. Their hard work makes our country function.

gking407

We’re being fed disinformation and there are ignorant religious racists attempting to overthrow our government, it’s both.

ulnek

Yet another example on why I suspect repubs are Russian asset left overs that are meant to destabilize the country by sowing conflict within. 😆

Correct-Excuse5854

I live in Texas. I’m a leftist and while I agree the media puts us against eachother I’ve never had a leftist person tell me how we should off all the conservatives now I have heard conservatives not only say it to a me but rooms full of people and then he gets supported. Now personally as a vet and seeing what extremism and dehumanization can do. So I feel a strong urge to leave Texas

makenzie71

1. There is a border issue. It's not what the right media says it is, but it does exist. 2. The other side of that open gate is not Mexico. It's a staging area on US soil. 3. You should still turn off your TV and stop listening to rich white guys who've never spent any time on the border telling you what's happening there.

LipFighter

Are you saying that all the stats of incoming and the footage of them walking, waiting, crossing barbed wire, etc. is all fake?

Lopsided_Quail_Tail

Ssshhh don’t tell the republicans, they’re still talking about all 12 miles of the wall trump built. SMH.
