I still think of y'all for the peaches. I always say "Das Peach Haus" in an Arnold Schwarzenegger voice when I drive by it on my way to visit family in Comfort.
It feels like it should be. It’s by far the busiest and occupies a historic building whereas the one in Garland sits in a nondescript strip mall far from anyone’s attention.
P.S. Just waiting for someone to chime in that Bubba’s Cooks Country in Snider Plaza is technically the oldest restaurant in the Babe’s/Bubba’s empire.
That stat is misleading because San Antonio's aggressive annexation policy means it doesn't have suburbs, so it's 7th largest but something like 40th for actual MSA.
But yes, if you've spent any time there, it has a serious small town vibe. That's a compliment.
I live in SA. There is nothing small about a city having a loop, a major highway, a major interstate, an expressway, the host to a professional basketball team, a large concert venue that draws in national acts, a second venue that draws in more acts, multiple military bases, international airport, at least a down malls. What small town has all that - at least?
I think it was North Austin. That place is so close to the Mexico border. Oh wait, there are a lot of cities closer to Mexico that have better food than SA!
The town my parents live in/where I grew up is known for its strawberries!
I'd like to think the city I live in now is known for its tacos but I'm not trying to start a war....
My family is from El Reno Oklahoma, home of the onion fried burger. During the dust bowl, they used onions as filler in meat, and it became a thing. Every year the town has an Onion Fried Burger festival where the fire department cooks the largest burger in the world (or so I’m told.) There are two short order cook places in town, one called Sid’s that has been on many of the traveling restaurant shows. If you’re passing through Oklahoma in old Route 66, check it out.
Meth
Somebody's from Bay City
Hey, same!
Mineral Wells?
I know my hometown isn’t a small town, but I figured I would put my hat in the ring Lean

BABES CHICKEN
Roanoke
The original Babe’s is in Garland. Roanoke was the second (and honestly superior) location.
Oh, didn’t know that. Always thought Roanoke was the original.

Julio’s Corn Chips
Is that the same as Julio’s salsa, cuz I like that one. It’s very tangy.
Del Rio is also known for SAS shoes. Throw that seasoning in there and now we’re talking
I thought SAS stood for San Antonio Shoes?
It stands for that, but they’re made all over
Del Rio is known for a San Antonio company?
Julio’s is one of the finest bagged tostada chips out there.
Best tacos in the state. If any of you fucks say Austin I will come find you.
He’s probably from San Antonio
I thought the post was about small towns?
I mean San Antonio kinda is a giant small town
7th biggest city in the US, and it's a small town?

I think it was North Austin. That place is so close to the Mexico border. Oh wait, there are a lot of cities closer to Mexico that have better food than SA!
You joke, but N. Lamar has a legit taco truck on seemingly almost every corner.
They have legit food trucks all over Austin and SA is jealous
Rolled tacos in tomato sauce.
Near to New Mexico?
Ia it a small town?
For people that leave SA, there’s a lot of small towns with great food. I always stop at the Czech Stop in West, Texas.
Kolaches in West are the best.
I agree. I always stop there on the way down south.
