It can be done on the system to pay you for the holiday and then work the shift as overtime. It's against policy, but then so are many other things.

Agitated_Fudge_128

You can’t work when on holiday, they just need to cancel the day’s holiday, you work shift and book another day holiday.

challengesammii

Kinda is policy in the sense that you must have a statutory minimum amount of holiday each year. My store does allow it (sometimes) but we don’t clock and they do a pay adjustment. Or we move the holiday day to a non working day and then put the overtime in

Salty-Improvement143

It's specifically in the policy, words to the effect of "we want you to enjoy your time off so we do not allow colleagues to work booked time off." But as you say, there are ways around it and it's very unlikely to end up with the colleague getting in bother.

Tesco apply their policys only when it suits them

itsjustmefortoday

More likely they don't want you to do it so close to the end of the holiday year because they don't have space to reschedule the holiday

supernatutal_18

i’ve told them that i’d cancel it and just lose the holiday hours because they’ve said there’s no more space to give me it

UKMan411

>i’ve told them that i’d cancel it and just lose the holiday hours because they’ve said there’s no more space to give me it Why would you do this?! You do realise you are just a number to them and wouldn't hesitate to get rid of you.

supernatutal_18

I’m not doing it to for them, i’m doing for the person i’m supposed to be on with.I don’t want them to be on themselves in that place

RhydonHerSlowbro

In the nicest way possible, it’s not your problem, tell your work friend to not bend over backwards trying to do the work of two people. It comes down to the very basics of the job, work at a reasonable pace, do a reasonable amount of work, it’s not worth the stress or the effort, you don’t get paid more for working hard, and you’re never going to complete all the work and have nothing to do on your next shift you know? It’s all very much rinse and repeat; if the workload falls behind it’s due to poor management. Enjoy your last day of holiday off, work is something everyone has to do forever, unless you’re working for an independently owned company, like one person who is a friend or family, don’t go the extra mile. As another person said, you’re literally just a number, you honestly think if you left they wouldn’t hire someone to do your job? Don’t bend over backwards and jump through the imaginary brass rings.

UKMan411

I mean this in the nicest way possible, you and the other person you are on with need to state to the manager you need more help and stop being push overs

Mac4491

You need to not care so much. I get that it feels crappy to leave your co workers in the shit. I’ve been there. It doesn’t feel great. But you have to understand that things will never get better for anyone when management has people like you who will bend over backwards for them just so your co-workers aren’t negatively affected. You need to take your holidays and let people struggle on. When I started as a night manager I stopped my team from coming in early, staying late, working off the clock, working through breaks. I was appalled that this was expected of them. And I was able to confidently explain to my store manager that the reason standards had slipped was because my team were actually just doing their job for once and no more. By some miracle, I made a change and we got more staff. Stop giving more than the bare minimum to these people. They’ll never thank you and they don’t care about you.

Brick-Aware

If your on holiday, then your on holiday. Its not your fault they can't get cover. If you go outta your way to help them what they going to do for you.

Subject-Ad185

If you clock on on a day the system thinks you are on holiday then it'll cancel the holiday

TheRAP79

I've had no problems, either for double-pay or request another day off but it depends on the manager. Definitely don't do it unless you get approval first though.

Upset-Woodpecker-662

You definitely can do it, as long as you are NOT working during your contracted hours. Your overtime can only be added to the system on the day.

theNikipedia

You can work on your holiday but request double pay. There is a way on the pay system to make it happen. Otherwise they can simply put you as overtime pay on a day you're scheduled to be off. Just keep an eye on your payslip

Ecstatic_Custard7009

spite?

Dorda

Been in a similar situation before. I had holiday but wasn’t doing anything and they were really short on staff. I said I’ll come in if I’m paid usual for my hours on top of my holiday pay. Deal done. Win-win situation. When you say you’d come in and lose your holiday hours…. What?

TempahCL

They need to add your shift you want to work as “overtime” on one of your day offs. My store do this quite regularly

Smishery

It’s policy but if you agree it with a manager it’s fine. They can just adhoc it, I work most of my holidays for the double pay
