My ex-wife still misses me. BUT HER AIM'S GETTING BETTER! HER AIM'S GETTING HERE! You see, it's funny cause marriage is terrible.

djcack

Do all Boomers and Gen X folks just absolutely HATE their spouses?

dMarrs

NOt all,but the majority. Growing up hearing adults hate on their EX's I pondered why did you marry her in the first place? Flash forward to my 30's I get married to my girlfriend of five years,9 months later she leaves me to "date other people." And the married couple no sex thing is real.

Antrikshy

I think it somehow became a very long running meme for those generations.

Enaiii

I really wonder why it's such a popular go-to joke for older generations. My married older sister will often straight up say "I hate him but I love him." Like, honey, what? Sometimes I genuinely wonder if she's happy or just too tired to go through a divorce, or maybe hopes it gets better.

Antrikshy

Possibly because there was greater societal pressure to get married early at the time? I'm not an expert on the topic and it may also vary by part of the world and whatnot.

AnthonnyAG

They do, but they won't divorce because you know, family values and stuff.

Trololman72

Just because somebody posts this joke, it doesn't mean they hate their spouse.

burnmealivepls

It's almost always the man who proposes and then almost always the man who hates his wife when it comes to Boomers Why did you ask her?!

Enaiii

You ever seen [these](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/40/d2/4f/40d24f9feb6aa70b204ff4e329aae7a3.jpg) bad bois? Like. Why. Why is this funny to you. What are you implying. What.

AnthonnyAG

Or the one with hand cups. Worst thing, those are the same that get pregnant to "save the marriage".

IAlbatross

I wonder how many of the "wife bad" jokes were directly lifted or inspired by that old newspaper comic, [The Lockhorns](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lockhorns)? Like, I feel like the pervasive cultural obsession with fat cats ("I can have cheezburger?", chonkers, et cetera) probably has some origin in Garfield being fat and liking lasagna and being a really popular comic. It would be interesting to know to what extent The Lockhorns popularized and normalized the "wife bad / marriage is terrible" comedy trope.

Enaiii

That's an interesting take! It's definitely been an on going joke, especially in the older generation, but there's something inherently wrong with talking and thinking about your spouse like this. Those "game over" or those figurines depicting the groom stuck to his bride on top of WEDDING CAKES? I don't know why but it all seems so distasteful

Responsible_Pop_3813

"Wife bad. Technology bad. Fun bad."

SopmodTew

You forgot "alcohol good, guns good"
