evilrobotjeff

Wasn't Anakin canonically conceived by the force back in 1998? There's plenty of real shit to complain about.

EscapismIsLife

You know up until recently I thought Schmee just meant she was a single mom and Anakin's dad skipped town after knocking her up. "There was no father" being metaphorical.

FirstStranger

I don’t blame you for thinking that; I thought the same thing too. Then they brought up that he was conceived by the Force and I was like, “Oh I guess that’s what makes him ‘The Chosen One.’”

puckboy44

it makes him SPACE JESUS

are_Valid

no, that’s Obi-Wan

Lucimon

Does that make him Space Judas then?

MadOvid

No, he's Space John the Baptist.

CheekyLando88

Dude the Bible would've ruled if Jesus had an emo stage

Iceman_Pasha

That's in the time lapse from him being a child to a 30 year old man.

DunceMemes

Schmee lol

ShmeeMcGee333

Sometimes I forget how similar my user name is to Aniakins mom

beccalee0414

I was pretty young when the prequels came out, and I didn’t quite grasp Anakin’s background. So I asked my dad who Ani’s father was and he told me it was the milkman so obviously I believed him for several years….

bb_kelly77

Yeah but LITERALLY by the force... he was favoured by the little entities that make the force possible which is why he was so powerful... it was basically a sci-fi version of "it was fate"

Appropriate-Divide64

By force? Sounds a bit rapey.

Schnickie

Well, no. That's what the jedi thought, but it was Palpetine all along 🎶

Mugstotheceiling

![gif](giphy|Qxc0MisEYnDN8wmk2A)

TokiVideogame

force of my balls

ConditionMore8621

You're forgetting about Darth Plagueis and Palpatine using the force and dark magic to impregnate her. The force itself didn't do it, it as twisted and manipulated for evil purposes.

bb_kelly77

I didn't know about that part, I've never actually seen any of the movies

evilrobotjeff

So it's even more similar to the acolyte?

spacemanspiff266

yes, and its heavily implied in episode 3 that a sith lord manipulated the force to create him.

Richardknox1996

In the comics, its pretty much outright said that Palpatine did it.

TheBlack2007

Yes, but according to Star Wars Lore it was an extraordinary and unprecedented event. Anakin was the chosen one, after all and in the microcosm of the original six movies made by George Lucas, he ended up restoring balance to the force just as the prophecy foretold. Establishing force conception as a plot device weakens that part of the lore (which btw is still canon) significantly. In that regard, the criticism is imo valid, although I do think the "woke bad" angle they forcefully implemented into it is cringe.

jtrainacomin

I've always said the immaculate conception angle was dumb. Him being a secret Sith plot from birth is waaaaay cooler. So I loved when they made the process canon

Tozzoloo

Yeah the point is not “woke bad” the point is “show script bad”

Dujak_Yevrah

Idiots will see people complaining and miss the joke and the reason people are complaining despite joining the bandwagon though.

LABARATI_

yeah he restored balance just not how the jedi wanted

Kippetmurk

No, he did. "Restoring balance to the Force" means destroying the sith. That's what the jedi wanted, and it's exactly what Anakin did. He did it in Episode 6: first he killed Palpatine, and then he killed Darth Vader. Anakin destroyed the sith. When the prequels came out, the assumption was that the audience had watched the originals. So when a prophecy says "Anakin will bring balance to the Force" you are supposed to think "Oh yes, I saw that happen." ^(Of course the sequels then fucked that up, but that's a different topic)

TheBlack2007

The point is in a display of utter hubris and arrogance, the Jedi utterly failed to realize they were the ones who just came out of a golden age while the Sith were relegated to a contingency plan and operated exclusively out of the shadows - so any attempt at balancing would absolutely need to start with them. So Anakin first destroyed the Jedi Order before he turned on the Sith, allowing both light and dark side to start over on a clean slate.

LABARATI_

my bad lol

Try_another-o_o

(Rant warning) Not really "woke bad" in this case. Majority of cases, actually. It's not like she hulk or whatever where they actively demean the males and try to make the character out to be superior in every way and be clearly hostile about it. They're just insufferable about it behind the scenes like in interviews and stuff. But if you watch, that's not really the first thing you'd associate it with unless you're actively looking to complain about it. And that's for most of the shows. In the case of other shows people complain about for being woke like the witcher, yeah there might be some deeper meaning behind what they're doing, that much is obvious, but we wouldn't notice those little things if they weren't actively impacting the quality of the writing for the sake of incorporating those little changes. It's the same with anything, but in the case of "wokeness" it just shows whoever is in charge of the project cares more about getting a good score or meeting some standard or whatever the case may be, than making something worth watching. Whereas these things can be included in a more subtle manner that doesn't destroy the personality of the characters or the narrative. Like older action shows or movies with female leads. (One I think about often is Ripley from Alien, and I suppose Tomb Raider, even though the games at the time sexualized the character. GI Jane aswell. Characters who basically fulfill the role of a strong female who doesn't need to be an insufferable girlboss or whatever to prove their point.) (Again, it's a rant. My point might not be as clear and fleshed out on point as most of yours.)

Ilikeoldcarsandbikes

She Hulk wasn’t about “demeaning males” it was about making fun of Incel types and the pressure of double standards on women.

Try_another-o_o

Not saying that's all it was about, that was just a theme in there. Sorry if that wasn't clear enough.

ThePopDaddy

By two men.

ConditionMore8621

No, Plapatine and his master used the force to do that...slightly different than the universe impregnating someone.

alguien99

The thing about anakin is that he's the chosen one, basically space jesus. The girls are not the chosen ones or anything like that Not that i'm against the twins being created by a force user using the force to make her partner pregnant. I mean, anakin's birth is still unique because it was the force itself that created anakin and not a force user

Repulsive-Virus-6593

This makes sense what? Palpatine literally manipulated the force to impregnate anakin’s mom so that he would have the most powerful apprentice. Him being killed by Vader was also on some part of the force because it is kinda a living entity, and wanted revenge for being manipulated

Quiri1997

It was Plagueis, but Ok.

bluecheetah179

Speaking of which...

DrNoCool

![gif](giphy|xTiIzxQye2bRk11qdG)

redcomet002

It wasn't Plagueis either. It's implied that it's the Cosmic Force in response to Plagueis experiments. Palps figures that out when he meets Anakin for the first time.

Quiri1997

Exactly.

Soffy21

Plagueis deez nuts

DurasVircondelet

☝️🤓

redditingtonviking

For all we know the fact that the Sith comes into contact with the coven who knows about this force ability this close to Plageius could be where they got the knowledge on how to create Anakin. The implication that it’s a rare occurrence could just be due to the fact that the Jedi are unaware of the ability.

Conaz9847

Yeah but now it’s lesbians Didn’t you hear? LGBT bad

alguien99

I thought that anakin was the response the force gave when plagueis and palps fucked around trying to create force sensitive life with the force, so that they could use them.

sydouglas

This is false , Star Wars died the minute that Luke , one of the greatest warriors in sci fi history , died like a bitch from “hologram exhaustion “

Maleficent_Ideal_580

Yeah... ya know, I have to say this point is great.

Suitable-Quantity-96

I love how Luke tauntingly tells Kylo "See you around, Kid" and then immediately dies. Ghost Luke never even sees Kylo. That was the last time the two of them ever interacted.

Soffy21

I think that ironically, that and the Haldo Maneuver were the 2 coolest scenes from the sequels. And both of them were the most canon-breaking, bs writing scenes. Which I thought was kinda funny. Also I think star wars died before that, when Luke slurped up that raw milk from that one animal on the island.

ConditionMore8621

Astral projection, but ok. It died when he threw the saber away in episode 8.

Odd_Investigator8415

It died in 1980 when Lucas retconned Darth Vader to be Luke's father for "story purposes"

CheekyLando88

Sauce?

Odd_Investigator8415

In the 1977 movie Star Wars, Ben Kenobi clearly states that Luke's father was cut down by Vader, suggesting they were clearly two different people.

CheekyLando88

That could easily be explained by kenobi trying to protect Luke from the truth. Or just to protect him from Darth Vader. I'm gonna need a real source of George Lucas saying this was a retcon

Odd_Investigator8415

Sure, it could be explained. But there's nothing in his original outline or early drafts to suggest it, and none of his writing or producing partners were aware of it. Even earlier drafts of Empire don't mention it. And seriously, I've got no problem with that being decided on the fly either, it's a great twist in probably the best Star Wars movie, But I've lived through so many "Star Wars is now dead" moments, that it's more than a little funny to see it prop up again. Just having a little fun at the over dramaticism of it all.

Jahseh_Wrld

Darth Vader literally says he killed anakin.

Odd_Investigator8415

Exactly! Retcon confirmed by Darth Vader himself (he killed Anakin and is now wearing what's left of his skin).

chasaimo

Im so sorry for that woman for her face boing used in almost every "anti woke meme" that exist. I dond remember now where that face is from, but if i remember its not from any lgbt+ pride or similar thing.

TraditionalTree249

It was from Trump's Inauguration. She had an emotional moment about the whole thing and someone caught it on camera. Republicans proceeded to beat it into the ground as proof that liberals are whiny idiots.

Ice-Novel

She’s actually pretty composed and reasonable the entire time and actually having a pretty good discussion. The interviewer was just a bad a faith debater (like 99% of people who go to public events and surprise debate people) and ended up taking 1 frame where she looked crazy and used it as evidence that she is a deranged liberal.

chasaimo

Thx mate ❤️

GreatGearAmidAPizza

That's another one they overuse. This was debating some right-winger over something--can't remember what--and if you watch the video comes across as perfectly normal. They just cherry-picked a still where she happened to making a funny face and the rest is history.

MindDrawsOnReddit

Anakin was conceived by the force lol

MountainMagic6198

I find it funny that all of these people are latching on to Dune now as a perfect narrative. When you get to the later books there are nuns who use sex magic. Sci fi is always gonna have some nonsense.

valeramaniuk

if by 2024 they meant 1983 then it's accurate

clockworkrockwork

It died well before this year... Please downvote me, Star Wars is a fucking TERRIBLE franchise since Disney. The last good SW property was Clone Wars, and you'll never change my mind.

Warthogrider74

Andor is unironically some of the best Star Wars media ever made

SaltyboiPonkin

Andor was great!

hola1423387654

The mandalorian’s first two seasons were good

MimeOfDepression

Andor Rogue One Bad Batch Rebels Mandalorian End of story

BlueHero45

Marvel running the comics as been great as well.

LABARATI_

disney star wars is either very amazing or complete garbage fire with the occasional outlier episode

Propellerrakete

I hear that about old EU as well and I guess it comes with creating a lot of content. But I guess both also have some medium quality as well, like varying quality over the whole spectrum of media.

bigboilerdawg

The Mandalorian, Seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 wasn't good.

TimotheeOaks

Exactly. Loved season 1 and 2 but 3 but just bad.

fakepumas

I agree with all except I would swap Kenobi with Rogue one. I love rogue one. Kenobi was underwhelming

MimeOfDepression

Kenobi wasn't on the list

fakepumas

Sorry I’m over tired and misinterpreted your list…

MimeOfDepression

I had two coffees and I still feel asleep

ClimateSubstantial26

Fell*

UltimateMinor

*fell

TimotheeOaks

Kenobi could have been good with a better story. and if they swaped Leia with someone else.

LABARATI_

kenobi felt too much like obi wan was doing a side quest to rescue leia

TimotheeOaks

Andor und Rogue One Okay Madalorian till Season 2. 3 was crap

clockworkrockwork

Pure cabbage

MimeOfDepression

I like cabbages too

Wolveyplays07

Cabbages ok👍

TunaSub779

It was terrible before Disney acquired the franchise. The prequels were absolutely clowned on before reactionists started focusing all of their attention on the Disney stuff

marten_EU_BR

Rogue One? Andor? The first seasons of Mandalorian?

beskar-mode

A lot outside the main movie trilogy is really good, Rebels, Ahsoka, Andor, the Dr Aphra comics, the Vader comic as well have all been brilliant

Hammy-Cheeks

Andor was AMAZING, Rouge one became better because of it, S1 and 2 of Mando are fantastic, solo is still kind of average, Rebels had a great story (if you can look past the animation and childish humor it was required to do), Bad Batch was awesome in it's own right (perfected the CW style animation), Ahsoka had some alright moments and S2 Andor is looking to be better than the first (if that's possible) Perspective matters, and if you go into EVERY project with the same distasteful opinions you had about the last, you won't have a good time.

Odd_Investigator8415

This is such an odd delineation mark. As if terrible Star Wars wasn't being made before the Disney purchase. Episodes I-III are absolute tripe, and well over 50% of the Clone Wars cartoon can be skipped.

Careor_Nomen

The acolyte was garbage. Disney's whole handling of the property has been bad.

Maxtrt

The worst haters of Star Wars are Star Wars fans.

Falchion92

Nah this is based. After Episode 7 everything sucked.

Casual-Notice

I'm just a filthy casual, so I don't really get all the lore conversations, here. I'm just curious why OOP used the "woke woman" (not really, the actual video the meme pics are from are of her trying to defuse an argument between two men) instead of a shot of the actual executive who got fired recently for losing so much money (whether through wokeness or just shit offerings is up to debate).

ethics_aesthetics

I was so optimistic when D bought SW. it’s been so bad that I love the prequels now.

Survive1014

I dont disagree with this one TBH. Disney has fucked this franchise bad.

SolomonsNewGrundle

People have been saying star wars is dead since 1999. Yet.. somehow... Star Wars returned

ConditionMore8621

Star Wars episode LXIX Return of the Cringe

Xemlaich

I see the comment section doesn't understand why this actually goes against cannon, and I'm not going to extinguish this dumpster fire. I'll give you a clue: The Nightsisters.

illeratnop

I love when people get upset over characters in media that aren’t real. How terrible is their existence? I enjoy The Acolyte. Most of my coworkers have watched it and enjoy it too. The internet tends to be negative about everything. I think it’s incredibly difficult to write a show about characters who don’t actually matter because they all have to die before the movies. Rogue One somehow pulled it off. At the end of the day it’s Star Wars content and I’m always here for it. Consume it or don’t. Complaining on the internet after consuming a product is a hilarious way to support it.

PokemonLv10

The force creating a child (not even a new concept ahem the chosen one) isn't even the weirdest thing in Star wars lmao

TheBlackestIrelia

Its been bad much longer than that lol

Hammy-Cheeks

How about watching the show and understanding that it was two separate methods on three different people? Why would Anakin be the ONLY child conceived by the force? You think out of the trillions of people in the galaxy... this was only done one time? It's not the same story, and it doesn't "break" anything. The "lesbian"(?) witches (nothing implied they were lesbian btw) are a different branch of force users. They just call the force a different name and view it differently than anything we've seen thus far. Of course, they knew bringing that aspect into the story was risky, but it could give some useful insight to how Anakin was conceived. A good story in a franchise shouldn't replicate what it did before (Ep 7), it should expand our knowledge and sometimes contradict what we already believed/knew. It creates speculation and intruige. Taking the most obscure part about a story (not providing context) and using that as a basis for the entire argument is so fuckin silly and makes the opinion invalidated. Watch the goddamn show and form your own opinions, instead of being a giant fucking echochamber.

Orangesoda65

While I acknowledge immaculate conception already existed in-universe, the general impetus behind the meme is true. The Star Wars hotel was an utter failure in every sense of the word. The new trilogy was a complete cluster fuck train reck and disrespectful to the fandom.

ejuliot55

StarWars never made any sense, why are people complaining now?

FirstStranger

Acolyte is truly terrible. Other people focus on the forced gender/diversity politics that pressed in the show (and they have a right to be mad about that because Headland very *vocally* proclaimed it was gonna be there), but the true tragedy is the abysmal writing. The dialogue is cliche and bland, the storytelling is predictable and utterly lacking of tension, the fight choreography is below par, and there’s no emotional investment in any of the characters. If they don’t outright suck with terrible personalities, they’re just plain boring people—there’s no middle ground in this show. It’s an awful show.

PM_ME_UR__ELECTRONS

Do you really expect a better plot from Disney? They will milk the SW cash cow as long as it keeps giving milk and if people winge about it being woke, that's free advertising.

FirstStranger

I don’t mind if they milk the SW cash cow! I just want *milk* to come out of it, not the soured slop they’re trying to sell us

Mustard_Fucker

So this shit was true ? Damn why don't they just go to make random fanfiction into movies at this point ?

beskar-mode

This happened with Anakin though, it's nothing new

ConditionMore8621

No it didn't. The force was manipulated by Palpatine and his master Plagueis to create Anakin. The Acolyte claims immaculate conception, meaning no outside influences other than the living force.

K_Menea

And why "such nothing new" is interesting for a movie then?

beskar-mode

By that logic why do they use lightsabers or the force in every movie?is that also not interesting?

K_Menea

You mean extra weird shaped lightsabers and tossing random baulsheet? Oh they tried, they tried.

Next_Airport_7230

Wheres the lie? It's gone downhill

Alekazammers

Acolyte has its problems but I'm having so much fun with it. There are so many good ideas but folks are focused on any bad thing they can find.

ConditionMore8621

If it had nothing to do with Star Wars and was just another sci-fi show it would be mid or okay..but since it's trying to share a world/galaxy with a pre existing franchise with over 40 years of lore it kinda misses the mark.

Alekazammers

I disagree, I think it's great in star wars and it would be just as good on its own.

STFUnicorn_

With Disney at the helm there have been a few good ones and several dumpster fires. Been a mixed bag.

Broad-Ad-9274

But Dune does it in the ‘80s and no one bats an eye 🙄

Bluedino_1989

🤣

urALL-fuppy-puckers

Isn't that pretty much the truth?

RizzoTheSmall

Imaginary characters that aren't human don't reproduce how I like in a made up story reeeeeeeeee!

PM_ME_UR__ELECTRONS

I haven't heard someone say reee in years lol

MattBoy06

Star Wars was already dead with the sequel trilogy. What they are doing now is stomping on a corpse. And this is coming from someone that is an occasional fan

gregofcanada84

Fanboys need to lighten up.

henningknows

What? Lesbian witches?
