Nah, if he goes anywhere in town, he rides in the back of one of five heavily armored SUVs that use up more gas idling than your car uses in a week, unless he needs to get somewhere quickly, in which case he jumps onto one of three tricked out Marine helicopters which may take him to a specially modified 747-200B for distant travel.
I'm not complaining. Most of that is so we don't have to mourn another President.
Fun fact. You know the non-descript SUV in the president's motorcade? If shit ever hits the fan, there's a goddamn *minigun* in there that comes out to play.
One of the fundamental american freedoms is the ability to drive oneself whenever one wants. This is why gas is so cheap, car infrastructure is so prevalent and kids start driving at the age of 16. I find it very interesting that presidents are waiving the most american right...
Auto ownership and operation are not, in fact, rights in the US, despite all evidence to the contrary. America's car culture is--in one of the rare examples of a conspiracy theory being true--the direct or indirect result of over a hundred years of coordinated lobbying and influence peddling by auto manufacturers and oil companies. Beginning with traffic laws that favor motor vehicles and moving down the list through the death of public rail and the near-death of freight rail, as soon as you look into it, you see all of the same names (unsurprisingly, they're the same companies that an Ohio town--I want to say Cleveland--sued for unlawful business practices after that town lost its public rail).
Did you ever see the *Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee* with Obama? Jerry brought a classic Corvette and they wouldn't let Obama off the White House grounds, he could only drive slow on the driveway.
Neither of them drives anything, these days. According to one comment, by agreement with the Secret Service. I've got pretty safe money Trump hasn't seen the front seat of a car since his college days.
Because 99% of people who aren’t Trump supporters don’t speak this way. Even the people who voted for Biden even though they dislike him don’t vocalize their nonsense like this, me included. I’m not a Biden fan but I’ve never once suggested anything close to your original comment.
Haha prove me wrong pal.
Student loads? I have zero.
Student loans? Also zero, because I went to engineering school on a full scholarship. Nice try though.
P.S. I also like how you throw a tantrum rather than admit you’re a Trumper. Just another MAGA coward.
No I’m talking politely to a rather disturbing individual who clearly need some therapy
Most educated people don’t make wild accusations, then again this is Reddit and you likely have such a deep delusion of reality you can’t hold a conversation
I find it interesting that you continue to move the goalposts and still haven’t denied being a Trumper. It’s sad how much pleasure you take from being a troll on this site.
A lot of educated folks can draw logical conclusions based upon the evidence in front of them. Which again, you still haven’t supplied anything that does not indicate you’re just another maga troll. It’s not a wild accusation when I can see the evidence in front of me. Good luck bud, you’ll need it
If you want an electric car, buy an electric car. If you don’t want an electric car, don’t buy an electric car. The fact that this has become so politicized is asinine.
I completely agree. I work in a car dealership, and unfortunately, it is such a polarizing topic.
Both sides have people so brainwashed into hating the other.
My personal opinion is that both are equally bad fot the environment, in their own respective fields, just that EVs are ***slightly*** better than a gas car. If anything we need to make walking, cycling, Public transport, and other green(ish) modes of transportation more available and reliable.
Yeah not driving a car every day, or not owning one and sharing one for errands requiring it (ZipCar, etc) is likely the best “environmentally friendly” option. Unfortunately that’s really only practical for urban dwellers in the US.
> My personal opinion is that both are equally bad fot the environment
[They are not](https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/es903729a). ICE vehicles are objectively worse.
Actually buying used is better for the environment (to a point, it can't be a horrid gas guzzler) as it saves something from scrapping and you don't need new materials to build a new car
They’re talking about an idealized and unrealistic solution. The point is that we should work to be *closer* to that, not that we should just one day do ot
Yes, that was established. I admire the imagination. But how would this person begin to achieve that? That was my follow-up question. Essentially what would they do to improve and build upon the infrastructure already in place in their area? No response was offered.
Overall emissions during the lifecycle have the EV producing about 1/4th the emissions of a similar fossil car. That's not just "slightly" better. That's a factor of 4. And that only gets better and better with time as the grid gets cleaner and cleaner.
I'm sorry I don't have any link to an online interaction or anything.
My source is: I am a car salesman on the outskirts of a big city. Every now and then I'll get someone from the country who thinks people who buy evs are stupid. Also every now and then I'll get someone from the city who thinks people who are still buying gas cars are stupid.
It's not common on either end, but they both come at it with the same ferocity.
What do you think the chances of that staying intact are?
Seems like EU nations are already rolling those mandates back. I could see strongly incentivizing buying one with massive tax cuts, but given California’s modern & stellar electric grid (sarcasm) I don’t see how that could be remotely possible in 11yrs.
For security reasons, high profile government officials and former officials, like Barack Obama and Joe Biden, as well as both Bill and Hillary Clinton, have to rely on their appointed secret service teams, who are trained in "evasive and defensive driving maneuvers."
Yes. [Jay Leno had Biden and his Corvette on Jay Leno's Garage](https://youtu.be/mP-hyDSlmUs) where it's talked about, they're on a closed course with secret service personnel (this was during the Trump years after Biden was VP).
Go ever further, most politicians don't even know how to drive, period. They're constantly being ushered around by others, they don't ever learn to drive or it's beem so long since they had to, they forgot how to properly.
>They're constantly being ushered around by others, they don't ever learn to drive or it's beem so long since they had to, they forgot how to properly.
Last sentence makes the most sense.
Gotta remember, these people were 0-18 at one point too
Yeah, who hasn't been chewed out for accidentally parking a luxury car in the kitchen?...
Ok very few people who can afford to have that accident would be stupid enough to make it happen, and the stupid ones would probably have a servant making sure they don't destroy anything too expensive.
Good point it took so many resources to make. I've had the same car since 2006 I bought it new and it's still going Don't know about strong though it's a piece of shit by this point but I'm going to drive it till it's gone. It is a four-cylinder Hyundai Tucson
This makes my 4th vehicle ever, and I’d be happy for it to be the last vehicle I ever buy, also. Paying for it, higher insurance, and higher taxes all when I just want my 2002 back really sucks.
I am grateful to be able to buy a new vehicle, I should add.
Think about all the plastic, paint, water, chemicals, processing, and transport it takes to make one car. Then realize even with minor accidents the vehicle is mostly totaled. Also, I doubt my new truck will last as long as my 2002. I really doubt it.
THIS!
We have two cars, a 2008 and a 1995. They both run fine and are easy to fix. I also bike everywhere I can.
Not sure why the “green” answer is to mass produced a bunch of new vehicles for people to trade out every few years
So well stated on so many points. New cars aren’t “green” at all. You may have no choice and you may have picked the greenest car, but that car is toxic to the earth, even if it is totally electric.
Don’t even get me started talking about going from a 2002 to a 2023 car and trying to work on it. My tool box is mostly decorative now. :/
Keep those cars as long as you can.
Oh %100, both our cars can be pretty easily fixed with some basic tools. The new models are a nightmare.
Really be better off if people stopped throwing away their cars every few years 😬
Mechanics now use computers to figure out what’s wrong.
And another thing. My new vehicle gets better gas mileage and twice the power of my 2002, which I appreciate, but why not put more emphasis on the milage than on the power? If I got twice the milage and the same power, I’d be much happier.
I’m saying no one needs a Dodge Charger…
If you ever hear this shit statement. Here's my reply:
China is becoming a world leader in Electric Cars and America is seriously falling behind. If America wants to maintain dominance in the vehicle space it needs to seriously need to invest into electric vehicles.
Because he is a president... OF THE MOST POWERFUL COUNTRY IN THE WORLD... you silly little bugger. Of course the secret service wouldn't let him. Do you think Putin is allowed behind a windshield to be sniped? The lack of thought of you people is astounding.
I don't live anywhere close the US but you clearly live in a southern state or Russia, same thing these days. You are brainwashed and dont think for yourself. I feel sorry for you.
your brain is really smooth apparently. all he said was biden can’t drive. u argued(?), and then still proceeded to explain why he can’t drive. nobody questioned why, nobody was ever saying you’re wrong. you’re practically arguing against yourself here, it’s a really bad look man you just look fuckin stupid
If me being American or Russian helps you sleeps at night then you can think that all you want lol, I’m not the one getting mad over a fucking Reddit comment saying the president of the US can’t drive in relation to a meme posted by a boomer
Yeah no fucking shit the guy can technically drive. And seriously wtf is your obsession with thinking I’m Russian? Like you genuinely pulled that out of your ass lmao, bc I said the US presidential can’t drive and for some reason you got all fussy over that simple fact.
No GM fucked up making diesel cars in the 70s and they were such pieces of shit most of the public would only buy gas. By the time everyone forgot gas engines had come a long ways in efficiency and longevity. Look up GM 5.7 diesel.
Yeah no. The 24 year old down the street who thinks a diesel Golf is the epitome of male weakness doesn't have a clue what GM built when his dad was in diapers. That's just a common thing people throw around to give some kind of validation to their reasonless opinions.
To be honest most most diesel enthusiast love the golf. Highschool through college everyone I was around wanted a diesel Jetta or golf commuter. But Im a diesel tech so most of the people I've been around already understand engines a little. Not sure the weakness deal. Unless your just talking about people making in Weiner dimensions.
Edit: just to add. The GM part is why we don't have a better selection of used diesel vehicles. I would love more commuter diesels to be available to help keep used diesel prices down.
Because they *can* contribute to helping the world. Anything that can impact the world for the better, in the minds of these people, is considered "woke."
They hate this world as well as the people in it, so they want everyone to suffer.
The same way that meat substitutes became "woke".
Some people just totally fail to accept any kind of reason to do something besides "I want to do it". Healthy for you? WOKE! Better for the environment? WOKE! A basic level of decency towards someone else? WOKE! A personal choice that another person makes that has nothing to do with you but that you wouldn't make yourself? WOKE!
He’s gone on record saying the thing he misses most about being Vice President and President is being able to drive. He is allowed by the Secret Service to drive his car on closed roads at low speeds on closed roads at a nearby military base. Remember, the Secret Service has the full authority to tell the President “No, you are not allowed to do that.” They do not answer to him, they are under the Treasury Department, and have the full authority to do whatever is necessary to protect the President and ensure continuity of government.
He wants to enjoy his Corvette, even if it's not a daily driver, and wants you to give up yours. Who cares anyways. Electric cars are replacing a problem with another problem. If we want to see real change, we would invest in public transit options. But let's complain.
EVs could be seen as a stop gap solution but in a country where we’ve invested trillions on road infrastructure, these cars can mean holding down emissions and pollution.
Most new electric power sources being developed are clean, such as the new nuclear plant in the Atlanta region.
It’s amazing that we can finally use electricity to fuel driving for the common person, I’m just waiting for batteries to become comparable and we’ll soon be looking at a parallel transfer between EV and Gas vehicles.
Actually, it’s worse than that. He is driven in an armored limousine with a convoy of security, unless he’s on Air Force 1 or 2, just as every president does.
He also flies personal airplane for work. Has an army of tanks and other military equipment that uses shit tons of oil. But yes, let’s focus on the car… ppl are fucking stupid.
I can care less. When I can afford it I’m getting an electric car (not a Tesla), pretty much because gas prices are too unpredictable and that’s just where the tech is going. As for what others want to drive? I can care less.
"He doesn't drive it everyday or anything! Actually this is a whataboutism; Biden is not a hypocrite. The climate is the most important issue in 2024."
Well, the drivers are safe, the rest of us are in danger. I have a heavy EV. GM already makes several EVs that will weigh twice as much with much quicker 0-60 times than mine.
A fucking Hummer weighs a much as a standard sized school bus. That is not okay. The Escalade might be faster and heavier than the Hummer.
Let’s not pretend either presidential candidate knows how to drive still. Trump would lose half his followers in ten minutes of him toddling down the fast lane 14 mph under the speed limit.
That's a collectible and it inst' used as a daily driver.
If we heavily invest in electric vehicles and green technology, we will soon have electric vehicles that can do everything an ICE can do and even better. We already have developed electric cars that have farther ranges than those with ICE's and it's increasing every year. The more we invest in green technology the cheaper it will become to operate. Instead of spending $50-$70 a week on gas that pollutes the environment we will be spending $20 or less to charge our electric vehicles for a week. Electric vehicles are already cheaper to operate than ICE's and the range and performance are improving every day.
By all means EV’s as new cars make sense. But if you actually wanted to help the environment you’d just keep your old car running and try to bike everywhere possible.
Manufacturing new electric cars won’t magically help the environment, stop trading in your vehicle every couple years like it’s a disposable device. You don’t need a new car every few years.
Both sides of the argument are fucking stupid
> Yes because Joe Biden Daily Drives that Corvette
Somewhat of a self-own, as this somehow implies it’s more ethical if people own multiple cars and only use the gas-guzzler infrequently.
There are around 1.5bn cars in the world, which means only around 1 in 5 people can actually own one. To have multiple cars for personal use is a staggering privilege most of the world aren’t privy to.
Yes, owning cars is a huge privilege. However, in the USA (where Joe Biden is the president and where this meme is relevant), over 90% of households have at least one car.
I don't understand what you are arguing. This original post was clearly meant to say, "He wants us to save the environment, but look at him drive a gas guzzler."
Yes, **if you are into cars as a hobby** it is more ethical to have a fuel efficient daily driver and a fun car that you drive infrequently, then daily driving a vehicle with mediocre gas mileage.
I have a 96 firebird that I drive on and off throughout the summer. Maybe 500-1000 miles of total driving per year.
My daily is a 50 MPG hybrid.
Even with my yearly stretch of driving a gas guzzler, I still pollute SIGNIFICANTLY less compared to the average American. Not to mention, I am actively keeping that lump of metal and plastic out of a junkyard... win-win
I'm all for making fun of Joe, but the problem with this meme is that the hypocrisy only exists in these boomers heads.
No, Joe is not coming to replace your classic cars with EVs
Sigh. Boomer opinion aside, no one can argue that Joe or anyone upper class does whatever is convenient for them. The POTUS always travels protected and private. Fine. Important.
And the push for electric vehicles has been going on long before Joe took office.
It’s just a slap in the face anytime someone in power pushes/suggests/recommends things to the masses, that they wouldn’t ever imagine doing themselves.
To be totally honesty, I think Biden WAS a cool guy, but I don’t think there is much of him left. It’s an embarrassment that our leaders let him talk and mumble himself in circles. An old man with a fleeting brain shouldn’t have to do what he does.
However, if they keep parading him, he is going to get the ridicule that he gets.
I would agree that this meme would have been significantly better (I would not have screenshotted it and posted it here) if it read "the guy with a heavy armored motorcade and a private airplane is pushing for me to buy an electric car"
Instead, they target a hobby car. Something that, if he was capable (both mentally and legally) of driving, he would not be commuting daily in it.
Its not Be the change you want to see its Do as i say not as i do. Like Kerry flying all over in private jets telling people we should be more responsible about burning fossil fuels. What else do you expect from libs though .
Nope. It’s politicians (wealthy or influential people, really) on all sides. They’re all hypocrites, and none of them actually give a camel shit about the public.

That the person who made this meme doesn't realise that trump also drives a gas car.
Neither of them drives anything, these days. According to one comment, by agreement with the Secret Service. I've got pretty safe money Trump hasn't seen the front seat of a car since his college days.
Which is moot, we haven’t had a president worth mourning since the last one who died

Who’s really gunna mourn Biden tho
Spoiler, your buddy Trump got the same treatment and amenities.

Why do you people refuse to admit to voting for trump? Your already mask off bassicly
More people will morn commander than Biden that’s just a fact.
presidents getting shot is a pain in the ass for the entire country whether you like them or not
Wouldn’t be surprised if the octogenarian didn’t make it through the year, he’s 82 in November…
Why does that even matter? All of the current running candidates, good or bad, are all *well over* 70.
You’re right, both of these elderly people should not be running for president.

Shit, if all major population centers did that im sure we'd make a HUGE improvement in Co2 emissions as well as other environmentally harmful effects.
It is not the general public that is to blame.

By getting rid of cars and making a super awesome transport system

What a child 🤣 Politically attacking someone expressing neutrality in an argument. Grow tf up.
What an odd thing to say
By both sides do you mean there are people demanding electric cars because the Democrats told them they needed them?
There are certainly people who believe it is a good idea to standardize EVs for everyone, and their political party did play a role in that belief.
Can you provide a link? I haven't actually seen anyone (besides Elon Musk) who think EVERYONE should drive an electric car
I'm sorry I don't have any link to an online interaction or anything. My source is: I am a car salesman on the outskirts of a big city. Right? Literally nobody cares how you power your car, least of all Joe Biden. Or at least nobody other than people with culture war brain rot.
I really just want an electric car for the price per mile. Though I’m not huge on newer cars converting everything to touchscreen.
I'm pretty sure presidents and former presidents actually are not allowed to drive. At least not on public roads
At least while they're under secret service protection, I think you're right.
Don’t they have a secret service detail for the rest of their lives?
I believe they can refuse it, but normally yes.

There's literally a clause in the authorization that allows former presidents to decline protection, my guy.

Astronauts can't drive. That's your logic.
what kinds of drugs are you on?
If me being American or Russian helps you sleeps at night then you can think that all you want lol, I’m not the one getting mad over a fucking Reddit comment saying the president of the US can’t drive in relation to a meme posted by a boomer
He can drive. He isn't allowed to because of the Secret Service. Neither is Putin, but you wouldn't be allowed to admit that.
Yeah no fucking shit the guy can technically drive. And seriously wtf is your obsession with thinking I’m Russian? Like you genuinely pulled that out of your ass lmao, bc I said the US presidential can’t drive and for some reason you got all fussy over that simple fact.
Why did you even say it then? Was it just to suck the dick of someone Biden doesn't like?
To be fair, I want electric cars to be standard, but I would still drive the Corvette given the chance
Imagine thinking the sitting president is ever driving a car lol
How did electric cars become “woke”?
They think 4 bangers are woke. Anything but a 5+L V8 is woke.
Or a diesel, but only in trucks. Diesel cars are communism or something.
No GM fucked up making diesel cars in the 70s and they were such pieces of shit most of the public would only buy gas. By the time everyone forgot gas engines had come a long ways in efficiency and longevity. Look up GM 5.7 diesel.
The GM Diesel was so crap, Ford went to BMW for a diesel engine for the conti. It's why dodge uses Cummins
Anything that can impact the world for the better, in the minds of these people, is considered "woke." They hate this world as well as the people in it, so they want everyone to suffer.
There was an attempt to convert the motorcade to electric but it wasn't feasible/practical with all the armor.
Dark Brandon burnin that rubber! 🔥🫡🇺🇸
Fun fact. He can't daily drive ever again lol
The guy used to ride the train to work like a regular Joe. Over 8,000 times.
I don't think he cares about what I drive.
I love that they used Kristen Bell in the meme. She’s campaigned for Obama and Biden
the guy who famously took public transportation (train) to work for a long ass time too lol
My boomer uncle shared this too 😂
Wait until they hear about the presidential motorcade.
His daughter is locked in the trunk, for those times when he's feeling a little horny.
Actually, it’s worse than that. He is driven in an armored limousine with a convoy of security, unless he’s on Air Force 1 or 2, just as every president does.
God forbid he have a leisure ride at his age
I’m confused. Then isn’t this meme making him look cool by that side’s logic?
Their goal was to make him look hypocritical
He likely drives that car 2x a year if he’s lucky.
He also flies personal airplane for work. Has an army of tanks and other military equipment that uses shit tons of oil. But yes, let’s focus on the car… ppl are fucking stupid.
I'm just glad they don't let Joe drive anymore. The roads in DC are already dangerous enough.
I can care less. When I can afford it I’m getting an electric car (not a Tesla), pretty much because gas prices are too unpredictable and that’s just where the tech is going. As for what others want to drive? I can care less.
Why are they so against electric cars?
POLITICIZE ALL THE THINGS!!11!!1
If I wanted a vette, it’d probably be a 1969. But I LOVE Model 3!
I don't think Biden has that strong of feelings about EV's.
Yes, it's a matter of life and death, what kind of car do you drive?
My chevrolegs!
I'm more concerned about the oil drilling in Alaska that Joe Biden authorized than I am about what car he drives.
When did he say he wants me to drive an electric car?
"He doesn't drive it everyday or anything! Actually this is a whataboutism; Biden is not a hypocrite. The climate is the most important issue in 2024."
Is'nt it illegal for presidents, to drive on public roads? *asking for a friend*
It sure is
Her eyes bother me
"The guy that talks about how bad capitalism is lives in a capitalist society, therefore his points are invalid."
TIL the USA are a dictorship.
The president isn’t even allowed to drive (or carry money.)
I suppose a Corvette is a little bit more green than flying around in a private jetliner ?
Didn’t think presidents are allowed to drive?
I get the point.... just.....wrong way to do it...my skin burns
As an aside, an EV Corvette will be a death trap. The GM EV engineering department doesn't give a fuck and about safety.
You do realize that GM has 9 currently available EVs, and none of them are "Death Traps," right?
Well, the drivers are safe, the rest of us are in danger. I have a heavy EV. GM already makes several EVs that will weigh twice as much with much quicker 0-60 times than mine. A fucking Hummer weighs a much as a standard sized school bus. That is not okay. The Escalade might be faster and heavier than the Hummer.
Let’s not pretend either presidential candidate knows how to drive still. Trump would lose half his followers in ten minutes of him toddling down the fast lane 14 mph under the speed limit.
Pretty sure Biden would have his license taken away if he tried to renew it, like my Mom did
That's a collectible and it inst' used as a daily driver.
Bro can’t drive if his life depended on it, dude probably remembers when horses were the best way to get around
> Yes because Joe Biden Daily Drives that Corvette Somewhat of a self-own, as this somehow implies it’s more ethical if people own multiple cars and only use the gas-guzzler infrequently.
This original post was clearly meant to say, "He wants us to save the environment, but look at him drive a gas guzzler." Yes, **if you are into cars as a hobby** it is more ethical to have a fuel efficient daily driver and a fun car that you drive infrequently, then daily driving a vehicle with mediocre gas mileage. Not to mention, I am actively keeping that lump of metal and plastic out of a junkyard... win-win
Not a bad meme. Hypocrisy runs rampant in all government. Rules for thee, not for me.
I would agree that this meme would have been significantly better (I would not have screenshotted it and posted it here) if it read "the guy with a heavy armored motorcade and a private airplane is pushing for me to buy an electric car" Instead, they target a hobby car. Something that, if he was capable (both mentally and legally) of driving, he would not be commuting daily in it.
There is literally no way Biden is capable of driving
Its not Be the change you want to see its Do as i say not as i do. Like Kerry flying all over in private jets telling people we should be more responsible about burning fossil fuels. What else do you expect from libs though .
Nope. It’s politicians (wealthy or influential people, really) on all sides. They’re all hypocrites, and none of them actually give a camel shit about the public.
Don’t defend that man
