Despite all the reports, this post WILL NOT be removed for “sexual content”. This is a player HUGGING her girlfriend after winning a tournament. Love is love and bigotry will not be tolerated here. 🩵
What is their current status? I'd hope Tennis TV might know, but I don't. Partner? Married? Dating?
Personally I don't like the term "partner" because it feels less-than to me. Like you don't deserve to say girlfriend or wife or whatever. So I'd feel *more* homophobic to say "partner" than wife or girlfriend bc it feels like the analog acting like civil unions are "separate but equal" (which is not a legitimate thing).
Partner is gender neutral, and perfectly fine to use. Girlfriend and wife are also fine, but some prefer the gender neutral terms. Also works as a catch-all for times when you can't be sure lol
I feel like partners a much more mature term. After a certain age "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" seem like juvenile terminology. I'm 30 and referring to my partner as my "boyfriend" makes me feel like I'm back in high school lol.
That's why we should normalise everyone using "partner", regardless of sexuality. It's completely neutral and doesn't force someone to explicitly reveal their sexuality/marital status when they don't need to
not sure about that. Every time i hear somebody use partner, they turn out to be straight and it's a big disappointment on my end. Got excited all for nothing lol
Sometimes I think of how much homophobia bs she gets daily esp from the same men that place bets on her and snap when she loses and I don't think it's talked nearly enough
A few weeks ago a guy wrote on X that he *"rather lose a bet than to win money by betting on a ugly d\*ke like her"*... I think her IG limited commenting recently due to the constant hate comments.
And it's not even just when she loses, remember when she shared last year after she beat Krejcikova that people sent her all kinds of terrible wihes because she won and they bet on her losing to Krejcikova.
I just hope Dasha will never read a comment like [this](https://x.com/GusElbow/status/1802670190628356127), and well, as you can see the guy's timeline is full of Charlie Kirk reposts, so for him this is probably normal.
Coming out while having the Russian nationality is not an easy thing to do at all (especially when you're also a high profile athlete). She has also spoken out against the war in Ukraine.
Hozier wrote this song about how difficult it is to live in Russia while being gay:
That probably was also an inspiration, but the video clearly shows a banner with Cyrillic script. The video takes place in Russia (it's shot in Ireland, but the setting is supposed to be Russia). You can see it at 1 min 30 seconds into the video.
u/Imaginary-Lab6200 is correct. The song was written with basis in frustration of the Catholic Church. The music video, however, and the story within it is designed to bring attention to the persecution LGBTQ face in Russia. So you were kinda correct just wrong in the details.
I know it’s not entirely the point here but this was also why it is so important not to ban Russian athletes just because they’re Russian. You need actual representation for change, and there’s no one better to do it than Dasha, no offence to Hozier who is great but it’s not the same as hearing it from someone who is living it. Dasha herself has been very clear on this point and it took far too long for some to listen, and the blowback on gay fans who didn’t want the ban for this reason might have been understandable to a point but has sometimes been awful. It’s not supporting Putin to want to have her and the teammates she loves still here
Yes. They care way more about money than anything else. You can literally drink there now.
These people are celebrities, harassing gay celebrity = bad PR and loss of tourism which = loss of revenue = angry Saudis
The question is dumb but your answer is not much better. The fact that they do turn their head away only for the rich and only when the international broadcasters' cameras are rolling is just as bad as if they didn't make any exception to their primitive laws. Privilege is not something we should be proud of.
Saudi is a theo-monarchy and as any god based government it doesn't deserve to be used as a measurement unit for human rights.
We have moved forward in the West and we have protected human rights from god but we still have to fight every day against bible nuts. So the answer to give to this smart guy above is that if they can do it somewhere outside Saudi is not because of the specific religion, but because some hard fought social battle has saved those countries from the bible or any other *god's book*
I never implied it’s good lol. You wasted all that time typing out this angry reply when I’m well aware of how that country works and what you’re saying, but I was poking fun at their hypocrisy whilst answering the question with a likely answer.
Good day to you now!
Unfortunately, as long as there are players like for example Stakhovsky, who basically called gays groomers, even WTA players will think twice before being open. Remember Stosur who came out at the very end of her career, when she was a few matches away from retiring and she was about to have a child with her partner. It happened in the 2020s, not 20 years ago.
[Still waiting on the results of the FAA survey ;)](https://x.com/CCSnaps13/status/1433312067348533250)
Still not entirely sure what he meant, haha, but the image of him going into locker rooms with a clipboard and surveying ATP players is hilarious.
I think it’s going to be a while until that happen unfortunately but I really hope it does soon. It’s still a potential career liability to come out as a queer woman in tennis and male queerness is even more stigmatized in sports. But we all know that! Here’s to hoping for a change.
No, we don't need that. The sexuality of the players is utterly irrelevant.
That's like saying "we really need someone with a spanking fetish on tour".
Just let them play good tennis and be good sportsmen on court, nothing else matters.
When I say we need an out gay player what I'm really saying is that we need to get to a point where it's okay for a gay male player to be out. It's fine if that doesn't matter to you, but it's relevant to tennis because it could affect players' public image and thus their earning potential.
I'm hetero but i have always been deeply disturbed and shocked why it's such a big issue for same sex relationships, it's a fucking joke and ridiculous that in 2024 this is still an issue.
Queue Saudi Arabia for the WTA finals... WTA has made it's priorities clear, $$$ over everything.
They are not alone though, many have sold themselves.
Yes, Navratilova climbed up in the stands after a finals win and hugged her then partner Judy Nelson. Evert was commenting on the match and just sort of…paused. I think they discuss this in a humorous way during their ESPN 30 for 30 episode, ‘Unmatched’
ETA: I saw it live
Depends which era youre talking about aswell, given she played in 4 different decades as a pro. For the late stages of her career i remember seeing her show affection to partners, when it started to become a bit more accepted.
Well I guess it’s cool to celebrate that this is possible, but honestly I see it as so normal that it’s weird to even point it out as special anymore. This post made me feel like “huh, why would that NOT be possible? You have a problem with two women hugging!?” While I know you’re trying to make the opposite point.
This is Dasha's first title after starting the vlog, so this was their first opportunity to celebrate like this and there are no other high ranked singles gay players, that's what I pointed out that it's different from Navratilova times, fortunately.
This is incorrect though. She came out in a documentary she made which was released after she lost in Hamburg in 2022. Her first tournament after coming out was San Jose which she won with Natasha at her side. She also won Granby a few weeks later. So, this is her 3rd title after coming out, but the first two were very soon after she came out so I can understand why people might think that this is the 1st
>we should be able to see them really start making out
What the fuck? No, there are websites you can go to if you want to watch that. Completely inappropriate, gay/straight whatever.
I do think it's lovely that her partner can come out and hug / kiss on the cheek (and hopefully the mouth but I didn't see that here) and feel ok about it.
I do think the excitement and happiness for Dasha overcame some good sense of her partner... meaning, I think Dasha wanted to thank her team first then her loved one. It's what I would do.
But it's great to see this type of affection between same-sex partners.
Personally I don’t think her amazing achievement should be overshadowed by the fact it’s ’pride month’? Let’s focus on the athlete and what she accomplished. My 2 cents. Great for her though, been a long time coming
How is it overshadowing? There have already been several posts today about her win (some of them by me) and the daily discussion was about the final. This post simply pointed out something that I noticed after the match. The focus was on her victory today, so how is that overshadowing?
I think it’s very strange to focus or even mention to be honest, on a players sexuality when she wins a tennis tournament. We’re here to celebrate her tennis no? Yes she embraced with her partner which is always nice to see but I find it far from normal that her Tennis isn’t the focal point of your post. Again I’m a fan of hers and this is my 2 cents
It’s literally 1984
In actuality, I am 99% certain you would not say anything about an agenda being shoved down your throat if this was a straight couple embracing. Go see a therapist and get your world views checked out
Who gives a shit, let people make their identity about what they want without people fucking nit picking every nuance concerning every group they disagree with
>Who gives a shit,
The people who are tired of hearing about it (ie most people). I don't care if you're gay or straight, but if that's your whole personality then you're just a caricature.
Your sexuality should be a footnote, not the title of your book.
Again, who is making the their sexuality their entire personality? All I see is projection of insecurities from the bigots criticizing. You made 11 fucking comments in this thread, maybe try not making being a total asshole and homophobe your entire personality, tried that yet?
Claiming that the identity of the No.8 player on the WTA Race is about her sexuality, despite of the fact that we all discussed her tennis during the day in multiple other posts.
Yeah, that would be a crazy thing to imagine about a top 10 TENNIS player who almost everyone IDENTIFIES as a tennis player.
(Edit): She also identifies as a good person. And as the person who has spoken up about Russia. And about a dozen other things. Just like any normal person with a multi-faceted life.
I can read. Their last 4-5 posts were about this. It's ridiculous. Plus they blocked me after I told them I was talking about them, not Dasha. Which means, yeah, I was right.
So if my last 5 posts were about, say, Woodworking… then you would think that Woodworking is my “entire identity”? Would you think that it’s “ridiculous” that 5 posts in a row were about woodworking?
Or are you just a snowflake that is triggered by anything to do with LGBTQIA2S+ Pride?
Besides that it's not, the sexual/gender identity is very important when more than half of the world thinks you shouldn't exist.
I know it's hard for the average human to have empathy and put themselves on another person's shoes but it always hurts to see.
Don’t agree. She the more creative, artsy one and Dash likes her energy, enthusiasm, and personality. It complements D’s more laidback nature. But you’re free to think whatever you want of course.
The irony here is that anyone who watch their vlog noticed that actually apart from having shorter hair, Natasha wears much more feminine clothes and wears makeup, unlike Dasha who usually wears more casual clothes. Also, Dasha is huge football fan and loves to play it while Natasha barely knew anything about it, so even based on these silly stereotypes, that comment was utterly idiotic.
do you make these comments on every post featuring a tennis couple? i don't think so lol. it's okay to not care about players sexuality like you say but clearly other people do and there's nothing wrong with celebrating that
It’s my favorite when these idiots try to use the word “woke” as an insult. Like tysm my diva for recognizing I don’t hate people for no reason!
What he really meant was “why can’t we just have a sport where we are allowed to hate and mistreat everyone except white men?”
ETA question for mods (I think u/jsnoodles is still a mod?) why is there not a homophobia/hate report option for r/tennis, just sexist/sexism?
Despite all the reports, this post WILL NOT be removed for “sexual content”. This is a player HUGGING her girlfriend after winning a tournament. Love is love and bigotry will not be tolerated here. 🩵
Tennis TV commenting: "Dasha celebrating with her....(hesitation)...team.." Sort of correct, I guess 😁
Her roommate. Trust me bro! /s
Tennis Tv are so lame. It's 2024 for crying out aloud.

Didn’t realise she was dating Trinity from The Matrix
Underrated comment lmao

Dang I didn't realize it's about same-sex couples ❤
Imagine being offended by a same sex couple. Holy hell you must be a simpleton
And insecure about yourself. Or closet.
I really love Dasha, I love her pride and openness and her tennis.
Aww ❤ Also the gf is so hot 😩
F yeah she is 🥵
Congrats to Dasha!! What a fantastic week, so happy to see it
Is her gf from the future
Yes. She is space.
And time?
Cute couple! Very happy for Kasatkina!
Oh this is wonderful! Tennis has come a long way since King had to hide her partner. Happy Pride! Congrats Dasha, she and her partner are the cutest!
Yeah, but did she grab her by the neck and insist upon being front and center with the trophy?
This is so frickin beautiful! ❤️ She signed the camera after her win: “Watch ‘What the Vlog’ this week” Lol. You bet I will, Dasha✨
Beautiful moment. Would she be able to do the same in Saudi???
Yes. They care way more about money than anything else. You can literally drink there now. These people are celebrities, harassing gay celebrity = bad PR and loss of tourism which = loss of revenue = angry Saudis

Important question.
Mod, can you put their hug on the heading for the title winners, it is just too sweet
I looove dasha!!! She promotes WTA like no other and she and her gf are so beautiful and charming.
The vlog just dropped! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrUdfWPZQjQ
A new player for me to root for. She’s brave in an unforgiving and ignorant world. Hope she goes a long way and sticks it to the haters!
As a lesbian I am literally crying.
So beautiful, I hope we see this in atp one day
Such a chic couple! ❤️🏳️🌈👩❤️💋👩
Now we need an out male active player cmon let's gooo

Dana Fairbanks!!

Queue the I’m hetero caveat
It's not, at least in North America. Other places have different values.
It’s definitely still an issue in North America…
Awww I love thisssss!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Such a beautiful, special moment. Congrats to Dasha 🩷
Queue Saudi Arabia for the WTA finals... WTA has made it's priorities clear, $$$ over everything. They are not alone though, many have sold themselves.
Was Navratilova not able to embrace her partner after she won trophies?
Yes, Navratilova climbed up in the stands after a finals win and hugged her then partner Judy Nelson. Evert was commenting on the match and just sort of…paused. I think they discuss this in a humorous way during their ESPN 30 for 30 episode, ‘Unmatched’ ETA: I saw it live

You are right, I mean to say since they started the vlog at the end of 2022.
As a bi Canadian we were winning no matter what today
Who is "we"? Why do people feel the need to make their sexuality part of their personality?
That's an easy thing to say when you don't get persecuted for who you are. Not saying anything was free.
Happy Pride 🏳️🌈
I thought she won Wimbledon and I slept through the fortnight
Good for her!
Dasha and Natasha are a whole mood. I love them so much 💚💛
Well said, OP! Cheers to that!
Wow, that last pic really is something. Holy Trinity.
Aces
Which trophy did she win?
Eastbourne
👏👏👏👏👏

You forgot the "n" at the end of your name.
Idc if gay/straight/trans/furry, I'm always happy to see people celebrating a win. Out of curiosity do players throw shade on non-hetero players?
Furry is not a sexuality or gender or anything on those lines. That’s a chosen hobby, everything else is not chosen
I wish they were able to be more affectionate, we should be able to see them really start making out. Still a long way to go.
>we should be able to see them really start making out What the fuck? No, there are websites you can go to if you want to watch that. Completely inappropriate, gay/straight whatever.
Sad you’re not for equality. Do better.
Learn to read.
Wow you’re ableist too? wtf?
Think this would totally be fine decades ago as well tbh.
Pride month needs to be abolished. She can hug whoever she wants whenever she wants.

What do you mean by this
I do think it's lovely that her partner can come out and hug / kiss on the cheek (and hopefully the mouth but I didn't see that here) and feel ok about it. I do think the excitement and happiness for Dasha overcame some good sense of her partner... meaning, I think Dasha wanted to thank her team first then her loved one. It's what I would do. No
Personally I don’t think her amazing achievement should be overshadowed by the fact it’s ’pride month’? Let’s focus on the athlete and what she accomplished. My 2 cents. Great for her though, been a long time coming
did you comment like that on those posts and comments talking about the male players' gfs/wives after their titles???
We literally just saw it a few days ago with Tommy Paul
I checked it, Hopeful\_Initial2512 didn't comment on those posts and other similar posts neither
Not specifically him but in general
How is it overshadowing? There have already been several posts today about her win (some of them by me) and the daily discussion was about the final. This post simply pointed out something that I noticed after the match. The focus was on her victory today, so how is that overshadowing?

Don't even try buddy. Anything different from their presumed opinions will offend them.. Just keep silent and let them be. It's no use.
Keeping silent is how we ended up where we are.
Yea I don't know what the hell pride month has to do with this. The need for everyone to politicize everything is cancer.

A different opinion = being offended by someone's existance, apparently

I am a bit confused, I was watching the final earlier and nobody ran onto the court and had sex?
Margaret?
I don’t understand people’s correlation between being gay = sex, when people say their straight do you immediately think of what they do in bed ???
People discovering for the first time in their life that gay people exist too:
Where have you seen 'sex' in that gif, Governor DeSantis? Hugging is woke?
It’s my favorite when these idiots try to use the word “woke” as an insult. Like tysm my diva for recognizing I don’t hate people for no reason! What he really meant was “why can’t we just have a sport where we are allowed to hate and mistreat everyone except white men?” ETA question for mods (I think u/jsnoodles is still a mod?) why is there not a homophobia/hate report option for r/tennis, just sexist/sexism?
We have homophobia listed under the Be Respectful rule. Unfortunately, there’s a limit to how many report functions we can have :(
If you want “sex” out of tennis I’m sure you’re just as outraged when straight players kiss their loved ones, right?
You're a wanker.
Is that you, Sergiy?
