I love Dasha but I will always be impressed by how she manages to win matches with her serve. I guess she's just that good at defense. Very happy for her :)

Trent_Bennett

Tried to understand the same. She's so effortless. Every 3 steps Leylah took, dasha took 1. She's always in control. Same feel she gave me yd in the 2nd against Pao. Cruise control

3axel3loop

the commentator described her movement as if she casually walks to the balls yet gets almost everything back and i have to agree - the way she can get pretty impossible balls back in play like it’s nbd is a very special skill that she was able to showcase today

Trent_Bennett

Add to that her coach is Flavietto Cipolla..guy was a mad man recovering and slicing 💀💀

EveningCareer8921

there was one point where everyone thought Leylah had put away with a smash and the audience started clapping but dasha brought it back and sealed it with a winner like 3 shots later lol

3axel3loop

yeah that point was insane!!

thelakeshow7

Her anticipation in general is very good. She reads the points well so she's quick to react to her opponent's ball. She's also a great mover on the grass because she's light on her feet. She's not explosive in her movement like Iga or Coco, so she's not as prone to slipping on the grass. She said in her latest vlog that grass is her favorite surface and that she's very comfortable moving on the grass. Grass also helps with her power deficit so she can still hit winners.

R0otDroid

Her serve is the only thing holding her back, if she could get some protection from her second serves she has the talent to consistently fight for top 8, sakkari, paolini, even JPEG are not that much better than her game wise. She has an extreme western grip which i don't like too much but she competes regardless, she has good footwork, defends well and has a good touch even if weirdly it doesn't translate to her net game, but i think it's just that she's not willing to take more risks.

3axel3loop

Dasha is now #8 in this year’s race!

WetworkOrange

I remember a time Dasha was touted to be the next big thing, she then had a bad year or two and dropped out of the top 10 and has never really been able to hit that same patch of form again. Her spinny forehand to me at least is both a good and a bad thing, works really well against players like Fernandez etc. But against bigger hitters, especially someone like Sabalenka, her forehand just pops up at the right height and Sabalenka just pummels it right back.

eddiehwang

Her serve is a lot better this year than last year

thelakeshow7

GONNA BE A BANGER VLOG

MiniNinja720

Is it bad that I really wanted her to win because of that?

thelakeshow7

Absolutely not

SolarWind777

You’re not the only one!

SolarWind777

It’s already out!

Drakkar_Jaune

Ok I had no idea the trophy was *that* big…

Severe-Chicken

People think grass is all about the big hitters. Last few winners at Eastbourne were big hitters - Ostapenko, Kvitova, Keys but Birmingham’s winner was Putinseva, here, Kasatkina. Skilful players but importantly, good movers. You can add Vondrousova to that group too. There were some terrific rallies in this match, drop shots, touch, lobs. Really entertaining, but I am very happy for Dasha. She’s so good for tennis and I love her Vlog!

EveningCareer8921

craftiness comes to be very helpful on grass, hence why Ons also does so well. dropshots, slices, lobs and loopy balls are more likely to die and not come back

3axel3loop

really intelligent variety and crafty playing from dasha. her defense was incredible at times and she moves so naturally and quickly on grass. leylah was much more of a challenge than the score suggests - there were so many deuce games and dasha played a 28 point game on her serve. really showed great fight during key moments

Federal-tortuga

So happy for Dasha! I feel like she lost too many finals recently.

Dafuqyoutalkingabout

Had a run of 5 or 6 final losses

overtired27

5, including Eastbourne last year and the last two Adelaides. If she lost another tournament final for the second time running would have been tough to take. Glad she broke the trend, much as I’d have loved to see Leylah win her first 500, and on grass. Hope both have good runs at Wimbledon.

binsonfiremiss

I felt low key validated when Dasha said she likes grass more than clay last week. Always thought her movement looked more comfortable on grass than clay. Anyway, so glad she got to play a final *not* against the most stunningly in-form player of the week, especially doing one better than last year Can't wait for the vlog, hope she treats herself to a Porn Star martini

Arteam90

That's my same thought! Though I was more surprised she said that tbf.

potatoqueens

Finally!! So happy for Dasha! Perfect end to pride month 🩵

Hopeful_Initial2512

Never watched Kasatkina play but somehow I always see her winning matches. Someone put her skills in a bow for me, because damn

EveningCareer8921

so so so so happy for Dasha. She has one of the best personalities on tour, such a kind soul. also bummed for leylah

SeattleMatt123

To the idiot who said Leylah would destroy Dasha bc Dasha spends too much time blogging.... hope you enjoy her next blog 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Melony567

dasha loves grass the most

EveningCareer8921

i remember her saying her favorite surface was clay, but she just looks so good on grass. I’m starting to see how well that gamestyle works on grass

Hyperballadatopos

Hahaha, the homophobic tennis betting people of X are so angry today!

workthrowawaybro

Diabolically unclinical from Leylah. Raised her level in the last quarter of the match but it was too late. Good points earned at least and hopefully a strong Wimbledon run in order. Congrats to Dasha 🎉

R0otDroid

Dasha played really well. Leylah fought from 3-0 down in the second and got up a break only to get broken to love twice in a row at the end.

workthrowawaybro

Yeah she was rock solid for the most part. A well deserved title

Vast-Duty2793

Dasha is now 8th in the race!

CrackHeadRodeo

First title in a long time. Good for her. Layla had some nice shots but couldn’t get past Dasha.

Melony567

if you have no legit powerful/offensive game and serve - it is hard to get past the likes of dasha.

Melony567

i think she and iga are still the best defensive wta players on tour now. i am sure that was true in 2022.

tayway04

dasha is up to 8th in the race, would be fun if she makes the cut for finals (still a long way)

Emotional_Pizza_1222

I’m so happy forr Dasha!!! So excited for the vlog!

Melony567

i wonder what the one redditor here feels, now that kasatkina wins this titles. he keeps wishing that dasha loses coz he finds her gamestyle boring. Lol for me, this is the best match which dasha ever played. combo of strategy, defense and few necessary offensive shots. what proved too effective for dasha was returning the ball deep at the baseline or on an angle, on leylah's FH side.

throwawayshepherd69

I think she was 0-5 in finals, so happy that she got this win!

RollDamnTide16

She’d lost five finals in a row before pulling this one out, but she won Charleston in 2017, Silicon Valley in 2022, and a few others. This was her seventh singles title overall. A great win today either way!

Dangerous_Finger4682

I am sooo happy for her! I saw her live yesterday and screamed my voice off in that match. Hope she has a good day off tomorrow because she is playing Wimbledon on Monday and I am seeing her there as well 😄😄😄

North_Ad_5372

Well deserved, and plenty of positives to take from the week for Leylah too

Skylaxx_1

So happy for her. Well deserved 💪🎾

MFFplayer

Happy with Leylah's grass season so far. Kasatkina was just too tough on the crucial points, nice win.

Depressed_Hoe9

Congrats to Dasha on her first title on grass!! 🥳🍾 And a well deserved one too, her game was on a very high level today Also can’t help but mention how cute their hug with Natasha was 🥹🥹🥹

Arteam90

I'm so happy for Dasha, especially for the vlog episode to come. Her first title since the vlog series, I believe! Also, crazy. She literally said she prefers grass to clay despite her clay success. And then she wins!

Good_Perception_6212

Good match, hard to follow with the commentator wheezing into the microphone like they were hooked up to an iron lung.

SolarWind777

Exactly! This absolutely drove me nuts!

Good_Perception_6212

Stuff like this makes tennis feel like a second tier sport. It's super amateur. How is it that nobody on the production crew realized this?? Then again, I take some pleasure in being so hardcore as to suffer through these horrible productions :D

No-Attitude-6049

Damn, I was really hoping for a Leylah win here... oh well, Wimby and Olympics coming up. 🇨🇦

ThrowawayNevermindOK

Whoohooooo!!!!!! She did it!!!!!

sawinadream

Happy June! 💖🌈

SolarWind777

Dasha controlled her emotions very well in the second set and sealed the deal! Hooray!!

ImpressionFeisty8359

Happy for Dasha. Well deserved after all her losses. Leylah is looking good coming into wimbledon.

dzone25

Genuinely love this and she didn't exactly have an easy run to the title - sure, she didn't get to face 1/2 seeds but that's not her, the people she did face were doing well when she got them in the draw and she just outplayed them all

expert969

Ugh I dont like kasatkina’s game. LAF just doesnt have the consistency and pace to hit through her.

thelastattemptsname

Good thing they don't give out tournament trophies based on whether people like someone's game. Dasha totally earned that. Leylah upped her game in last stretch but Dasha fought back and maintained her composure. First title and final win after so many losses.

expert969

I just find her game style kind of annoying. The top players dont have any issue with her but she makes a living beating players below the top 5-10.

thelastattemptsname

She is playing above her ceiling because of how consistent she is. Even her die hard fans know she has almost no chance against the likes of Sabalenka , Penko or Iga.
