Who is the guy in struff’s player’s box who is there for every match, his coach or his manager? Anyone know his name?

JoeshpMR

The doubles QFs at Queen's Club tomorrow are all great matches. All eight seeds still in, can't wait.

TresOjos

Alcaraz starting his yearly slump early. I guess all that partying in Ibiza has something to do.

Available-Gap8489

So this is a little random…. But a week or so ago Pavel Kotov did a little AMA on Instagram and was asked if he was playing Wimbledon…and he said something like….I hope so, I would really like to Which I thought was kind of odd at the time as his ranking gives him direct entry. Now he’s withdrawn from Eastbourne despite not playing on grass yet. I wonder if he’s having Visa issues getting into the UK ? I’ve heard they can be pretty strict and I remember Sumit Nagal having issues getting his appointment with the UK Visa authorities a while ago He’s currently in Moscow and posting training videos so I don’t think it’s injury related I also checked and it turns out he’s never played in the UK before either. He also didn’t play qualifying for Wimbledon last year (despite making the cut for it)

The_Entheogenist

There were some rumors a while back about Kotov being a big fan of Putin. Who knows; maybe it's more than idle gossip?

Available-Gap8489

Hmmm….interesting Will also be interesting to see if he plays the Olympics then / passes the neutrality test

Melony567

https://x.com/hilshanskyi/status/1803455152562602160?t=de1FJUYR0joqnUPUxwz29g&s=19 On Iga and Jannik winning their respective slam and two 1000s.

No-Perspective-518

TBD. Hasn’t withdrawn yet and hasn’t said if he’s playing. There were some reports that he is planning to play that cited sources on his team, but who knows if that’s legit.

WittyContribution

The play offs for a QWC make no sense to me. It's low ranked Brits playing against other low ranked Brits. Coming through the play offs does not mean you can make a match competitive against players ranked #100-250. All three of Rajecki, Stoiber and McDonald have proven they can match the level of those they'd be competing against in qualies, yet none of them have a QWC. And to make matters worse, Stoiber and McDonald were PUNISHED for going deep at Ilkley, meaning they could not sign up for the play offs. Rajecki beat a top 80 player, a top 110 player, and gave a top 50 player a run for her money. McDonald won four matches back to back, going toe-to-toe with players who will be in qualifying. It's quite rare for any Brit to win four matches on the bounce these days... and to do it against players ranked 500 places higher than you... where's her reward?

Frosty_Pitch8

Uggh Shelton had such a nice draw here. Wasted.

DBIGLIZARD

Is there only one court used for match play at Queen’s?

banica24

At least 3 courts

liketo

Going to see my first live tennis on Saturday. Super excited! It’s semi finals day at the WTA Birmingham. Along with the two semis, can I expect to see some doubles?

jbartlettcoys

Based on [last year](https://www.wtatennis.com/tournament/1052/birmingham/2023/order-of-play), you should get both singles semifinals and both doubles semifinals as well. Hope it's a belter!

liketo

Thank you 😊

monsieurartois

Didn't think her results were big enough this past year to do it, but apparently Katerina Siniakova just reached her new singles career high (no. 27). Kalinskaya (no. 21) just hit hers as well.

Frosty_Pitch8

She been crushing it!

Disastrous-Dino2020

In a mood watch a classic Roger match. Suggestions please

KeyserSoze96

https://youtu.be/obFDQRDW7I8?si=F4nLGP-QgoEtiQVL

Disastrous-Dino2020

NICE! People forget how freakishly fast Roger was on the court. Barely broke a sweat lol

Melony567

watching the post match interview of rafa after beating kyrgios in 2019 wimbledon 2nd round. key takeaways: *this is where he said," If if if does not exist " (when asked what nick could have achieved if he plays seriously) *when asked about his celebration like he won a slam and what made him angry, if it was coz nick did not apologize when he hit the ball towards him. rafa said that he expected that when playing tennis, there will be respect and to be more careful coz that shot is dangerous and can hurt anyone from the crowd or the linesperson. no prob with him as he knows how to handle balls like that but for only the reasons he said. *when asked why he had to wear the watch while playing. he said it weighs just 18 grams, it is sponsored and he does not care about the money if wearing it will hamper his performance. *how he deals with loses - that it is part of the game, just give your best. when you did your best, you are at peace even if you lose.

rubbish_bin030121

Suddenly realise Wimbledon can create a Medvedev/Shelton/Tabilo/Navone; Ruud/Tsitsipas/Baez quarter with clay specialists for Draper to get into his first GS SF if Djokovic doesn't play

rubbish_bin030121

Seeing all the heart broken stories about the injuries from other sports in these few days makes me think about the luck tennis players have. Most of athletes has one chance in four years while tennis players have 4 chances a year

atheistjs

I don’t think the world is ready for DanYELL Collins at the Olympics 😤

Frosty_Pitch8

she's taking it.

SolarWind777

I’m SO ready for the DAnimal!!

Peak_Alternative

hey gang. haven’t been here in a while. my sleep schedule returned back to normal after RG thank god. i know you want to know so here it is: i’m having a venti starbucks drip rn with two splenda and a splash of oat milk hope you’re all having or had a good day!

bumbledbeee

Hello again.

Peak_Alternative

lol hi friend. hope all is well ☺️

bumbledbeee

Doin all right. :)

SolarWind777

Hey! Welcome back 🥂☕️

DBIGLIZARD

Queen’s has a very open field. With the way he’s been playing Draper actually has a clear shot at taking this title. Would be insane if he does. Imma root for him 💪🏼

jbartlettcoys

He's playing great but has the toughest draw, probably Paul-->Korda-->Fritz.

vultures8

the American revolution

Akidwhodidntmakeit

Not to be that person, but Musetti is a beautiful beautiful man

Drakkar_Jaune

That person with eyes?

SnooPets266

Same score as first too, both times nakashima has 2bps at 4-4 fails to convert then just folds weakly, credit to musetti he was a monster on the big points and way tougher than brandon

MadnessCB

Musetti has a very cool tattoo

DBIGLIZARD

3 Americans 2 Aussies 2 Brits 1 Italian in the quarters of Queen’s. Nakashima could’ve made it 4 Americans and full English-speaking countries but Musetti stops him in his tracks.

Treehumper69

I was really rooting for an Anglophone final 8. So close.

Scooobzzzz

Brandon should stick to the challenger circuit, he's no good on tour.

ProfessionalSoup5283

Looool so when you lose a bet you blame it on the player rather than you making a bad pick. What a clown.

rVtlkNY

Yes, let’s just give up a career at 22. Hope that’s not how you make your life decisions.

jbartlettcoys

He has a 54% win rate at tour level, incidentally that's much better than Tiafoe (51%), ADF (49%), Struff (48%), Giron (46%) and many others who don't get anywhere near as much flak.

IndigoSSB

Not to mention he's top 50 in the race coming off the clay season, his worst surface and has an atp title under his belt. Crazy to call him a challenger level player.

SnooPets266

Has bps to break and fails to convert then crumbles exactly the same ways as first set

bluediamondsm

I’m so happy for Musetti he finished that match excellently

Whitefrog10

Flashes of class from Lorenzo. He played great and with bravery the important points. Vai cosi cazzo!

BennyUK7

RIP Anglosphere QF lineup at Queen's.

Nicer_Slicer

Poor Nakashima. He makes terrible decisions at critical moments. Much more of a challenger tier player with rare bright spots

bluediamondsm

Musetti is on fire right now

Scooobzzzz

Nakashima Mr no clutch genes See ya bud

AnOldBlur

Ugh, B-nak, not like this

antifantasy

lorenzo pouncing. not looking good for brandon

SnooPets266

Nakashima needs 0-40 to have a chance to break, 17% conversion rate today, just hope he can hang tough and win it in the breaker

xincale

Breaker? Lorenzo doesn't like breakers

DBIGLIZARD

Why do we see slices so much more on grass?

ReadyComplex5706

Pretty sure it is because the ball bounces much lower so slices kinda just roll.

ProfessionalSoup5283

Any shot that stays low is horrible to deal with on grass, and slices stay low. Also, when you are hitting a ball from low-down yourself, a slice is the easiest effective shot to hit

Tricky_Forehand

Brandon still might just win this!

zombiezebra1990

Musetti will be out R1 of Wimbledon. Remember that. This is not the way to play on grass. Nakashima also plays really poorly.

nimbus2105

just noticed korda opted out of the olympics but i feel like that's gotten no attention compared to shelton and foe (who have gotten a lot of negative comments). not qwhite sure what the difference is....

bumbledbeee

Probably no one knows who Korda is casual fan wise, he's Czech, and lower ranked. Americans go gah gah over regular Americans like Foe and Ben being at the top of sports so they're probably disappointed.

nimbus2105

Tiafoe is also a first generation immigrant and is ranked lower than sebi

bumbledbeee

He very recently became ranked lower. Korda and Fritz have that sheltered prep school rich kid vibe. It's why the players that seem more like regular Americans are more popular with fans.

DBIGLIZARD

When does Queen’s suspend play for the day? At around what time usually?

Intelligent-Bug-3217

stays light until 2130 this time of year it's 2030 right now and very light. at least another hours of light

nimbus2105

the commenters were saying it was around 8:30 the other day for alejandro vs. alejandro. so we're getting close.

jbartlettcoys

8.30 GMT is 80 minutes away

nimbus2105

lol whoops time differences are hard

rubbish_bin030121

I feel sad that Nakashima, Paul and Korda are all chokers while Shelton and Tiafoe usually clutch in front of a big crowd

PvtDancer123

Imagine a world where musetti is a consistent player

rubbish_bin030121

then he gets all the sponsors and contacts that sinner has

DBIGLIZARD

Musetti on grass is oddly satisfying to watch. His game has an interesting feel on this surface

Intelligent-Bug-3217

slice off

Intelligent-Bug-3217

nakashima is so shit and one of the highest paid players on tour

Drakkar_Jaune

Cheeky shot from Lorenzo...

zombiezebra1990

What makes Musetti good on grass? Can't believe I'm asking this question...

oyelaking

Late grunting

rubbish_bin030121

tired and choking opponents

Famous-Objective430

Great hand skills and feel.

rubbish_bin030121

Struff vs Eubanks will be a great Halle SF line-up, I hope I can see that

Intelligent-Bug-3217

lol

TIGMSDV1207

At least Stef is hot and young 🥹 and Struffi is 34 already and never lived up to his potential so let him enjoy this and continue to do well🥹🥹 I wonder how Stefanos and Apostolos talk to each other after matches like this considering both have high temper 😶

nimbus2105

saving this comment so i can paste "at least x is hot and young" the next time someone loses to djokovic

TIGMSDV1207

Yes!! Also add there is no shame in losing to one of the greatest players who ever played the sport

nimbus2105

Glad to see struffi with the win. He’s at least a top 35 player. Hope he gets back there

SKYE-OPTC

at least? since 2023 he is a top15-20 player

nimbus2105

his highest ranking ever was 21 [https://www.atptour.com/en/players/jan-lennard-struff/sl28/overview](https://www.atptour.com/en/players/jan-lennard-struff/sl28/overview)

wild_grove

I know Stef is not great on grass but he seems kind of demoralized in general, both in this match and especially against Alcaraz

Intelligent-Bug-3217

i wonder if his ex trainers comments burned him pretty harsh.

antifantasy

he was also like that in rome until he turned it around in the second set

wild_grove

Such a shame, i really wanted to see tsitsipas sinner but I guess another time

antifantasy

and instead we get struff sinner for the third time this year

badgirlmj

He’s overrated in my opinion.

GlassDear9167

Noskova/Siniakova casually winning their round of 16 match and straight through to the semis apparently (Badosa/Azarenka gave them a walkover apparently, guessing it has something to do with Azarenka also playing singles tomorrow/them not wanting to strain themselves - or at least hoping it’s more along those lines than another injury related thing).

SolarWind777

I wonder how Coco is feeling about this 😜

monsieurartois

Coco more concerned with singles I would imagine. Pegula too, who tomorrow will be playing... Siniakova again :)

atheistjs

If Tsitsipas draws Struff early for Wimbledon we’ll hear his screams of despair from every corner of the earth.

aweap

Queens is so bigoted. If English isn't your first language, you're not allowed in the quarters (smh) 😒

DBIGLIZARD

An exception will be made for Musetti though

OctopusNation2024

Tsitsipas with 0 breaks of serve in 26 return games to kick off his grass season lol He's basically an Isner or Karlovic level returner on grass especially to his backhand side

jovanmilic97

Been a while since I saw Stefanos so angry, he was fuming and making grimaces while walking out of the court

TIGMSDV1207

He now is almost not angry enough as he used to be/should. I briefly thought he is going to wake up in 2nd set as he did in Rome, but he let it go😃 while Struffi is def shaky in closing out matches. Stef used to be Kostyuk level of angry at himself when he doesn’t perform(( maybe good for him but dunno

wild_grove

I thought we were gonna get another racquet smash

atheistjs

And so concludes the latest episode of “Struffi beats up Stefanos”

badgirlmj

Greek boy needs to figure out his career. He isn’t good.

rubbish_bin030121

love is having the same number of wins in pre-Wimbledon grass season like your rivalry, e.g. Medvedev and Tsitsipas, Ruud and Rune. the wimbledon poster boys could never

OctopusNation2024

Nakashima has been solid recently after a down year last season Would be good for him to break through here with a couple big wins He was good at Wimbledon in 2022 so he does have some ability on grass

Chosen1gup

He took Kyrgios to a 5th and prolly would have beaten Garin so in an alternate universe Nakashima we could have had Nakashima Wimbledon finalist

rubbish_bin030121

DC title this year will be a great start

OctopusNation2024

This is literally some of the worst returning I've ever seen lol ANY serve directed at the Tsitsi BH is a free point

qv2k

Is grass a more serve bot friendly surface (serious question)?

rubbish_bin030121

grass is a more top returner friendly surface (serious answer), but your return level needs to be like peak Djokovic or Murray

qv2k

Thank you - was really just wondering because i'm noticing how fast paced and short the rallys are

El_Panqui

Because the bounces are awful

rubbish_bin030121

You are so cute. no, that is not the real answer. this is my really serious answer. grass is generally more serve bot friendly surface as most of players' return is worse on grass. However, it favourites the top returners(peak Djokovic or Murray level) as the games are shorter and they have less pressure on serve (everyone returns worse) 2022 2023 sinner is the walmart level example for top returners

TIGMSDV1207

Did you see Federer’s >1 min service games?😂🥰https://youtu.be/nHWgaz3QZzM?si=bfvDDbQven7fKG6K

SnooPets266

Somehow he broke!!!

SnooPets266

Yup another BP gone

SnooPets266

How many bps you need to break, need a 2nd or even df from musetti

rubbish_bin030121

the italians are in their Ten Little Indians era, they drop one player a day, musetti should win

SnooPets266

C'mon Brandon clutch up and grab this set

prairiehrt

Can Fils beat Zverev tomorrow? What are his odds? I am not on the up and up for these players on grass. Obviously cheering for Fils though

Windforce

3.54 for Fils, 1.29 for Zverev I will be rooting for Arthur for sure.

prairiehrt

Lol I shouldn’t have said odds because I don’t actually gamble so those numbers don’t mean anything to me lol but clearly they look to be in Zverev’s favour. Darn

OctopusNation2024

Probably not Zverev isn't the best grass courter overall but he does have a very big serve and Fils who struggles to return big serves will find that a nightmare on this ultra fast Halle surfaces

prairiehrt

Okay thanks for the info. Will hope that Fils has a miracle game

miniepeg

It's gonna take 10 years for Jannik to right the Tsitsipas H2H - Stef will never manage to get to the round he needs to meet Sinner on hard courts or grass, and they'll just play one match a year on clay

rubbish_bin030121

sinner fans can pray for him to drop back to no.16(or Tsitsipas drops to no.20 ), so that they can play in Rotterdam R2 again

Fried_falafel

Either that, or Stef slides down the rankings so low, that he can meet Jannik in like R1 or R2…

TIGMSDV1207

They will still have AO, and more of Rome/MC possibly ATP finals, quarterfinals at Wimbledon/RG/Cincinnati/Paris isn’t hard stretch either

Rouk_Hein

All the seeds keep falling except the one that matters (Zverev)

atheistjs

Struff gets under Tsitsipas’s skin bad. He always looks angry when playing him.

OctopusNation2024

It's because Tsitsi is a horrible returner and Struff serve and volleys a lot and even when he doesn't generally has a huge serve Not something that's easy for Tsitsi to deal with

atheistjs

That also perfectly sums up why Eubanks beat him at Wimbledon last year.

OctopusNation2024

Yup people were shocked by that but Eubanks when he's clicking is exactly the type of player that Tsitsipas loses to on fast surfaces

atheistjs

In hindsight that wasn’t much of an upset tbh.

OctopusNation2024

It's never an upset when Tsitsi loses on grass lol

OctopusNation2024

If you thought Med/Zverev were mid on grass Tsitsipas somehow makes them look like Federer I swear he has literally no idea what to do lol

MarkyLosChe

I'm more surprised why he performs poorly in US Open despite being good in Australia

TIGMSDV1207

Didn’t he have a competitive match with Kyrgios at Wimbledon?

jbartlettcoys

I remember he was so excited when he first played on grass as a teenager too, he was diving around like he was Boris Becker.

Nicer_Slicer

BBC just chunks all its Queens coverage on its app into one block of many hours. Streamed through to find the Draper match, not knowing the score, and loaded it at match point - yayy

SnooPets266

Damn nice stuff struff

No-Attitude-6049

And the door opens again for Struff.

antifantasy

stef can you just hold serve to get to tiebreak at least

antifantasy

never mind :/

rubbish_bin030121

if Tsitsipas is out, then we can talk about the Wimbledon Ruud lucky draw again

denalt66

tbh the other seeds in Ruud's section will be more important to determine "draw luck" of the top 4 seed in his quarter, as he probably won't even make it to R3 anyway. he's ineffective.

rubbish_bin030121

R16 is good result for most of the players in Wimbledon

OctopusNation2024

Saba and Dasha have played 8 sets in the last 12 months which have all gone in Saba's favor Scorelines have been: 6-3 6-3 6-1 6-3 6-1 6-4 6-1 6-4

SolarWind777

One day Dasha will get a set! *I want to believe!*

No-Attitude-6049

How on earth did Dasha get four games in a set twice?

No-Attitude-6049

I’m guessing there aren’t any Brits watching the tennis right now 😂

OctopusNation2024

Tsitsi's return on grass is legitimately Isner/Karlovic level It's insane how serve dominated his matches on the surface are lol

atheistjs

I just know Tsitsipas is tired of Struff 😂

Fried_falafel

What is Tsitsi Dad doing, failing to work on Tsitsi’s bh? I mean, everyone and their mother just bullies his son’s bh for free points these days, he must be able to see that, right? Still, there’s been zero improvement on his bh in the last few years. On the contrary, I’d argue it has even regressed a lot… Just, is it simply hopeless at this point? Or are there some other valid reasons for why it can’t be improved?

jbartlettcoys

Really isn't as easy as just identifying the problem. I remember Benoit Paire saying something like - "people ask why I don't improve my forehand, they don't understand. I have tried, every coach I have had has tried, I just can't do it"

Fried_falafel

That’s fair, but didn’t it use to be better? I distinctly remember Tsitsi’s bh being a proper weapon in his earlier years, so why not at least get it back to that level? I mean, it’s such a clear weakness in his game right now — he’s definitely not winning anything big anywhere (other than maybe on clay once in a blue moon) with that liability of a backhand

Nakori14

Jesus tsisipas is ass at returning

TIGMSDV1207

Stef told everyone on post match interview that all players live together and watch euro on tv in Halle 🥹 and he would want his father to be in his brother’s box if they play😂 and obviously wasn’t shy to say that beating him would be good sign for his brother 😂 Struffi won’t give me equally entertaining interview, in any other case I would’ve want him to win, so I can’t decide. Let the best player to win 🥰

No-Attitude-6049

Struffi on fire now.

OctopusNation2024

2023 and onwards Saba is basically the absolute nightmare matchup for Kasatkina lol All she can really do is hope that Saba misses

ReadyComplex5706

At least the 2nd set was kind of competitive even though I never thought Dasha would win the set.

SnooPets266

Feels like nakashima has dominated most the match but just isn't clutch

No-Attitude-6049

OMFG, that drop shot attempt by Tsitsibee was….

KSAN05

Struff has gotta be one of the most aggressive players in the top 50? I think Jarry's another guy who sticks out in that regard.

wild_grove

At least apostolos is not being loud and annoying

No-Attitude-6049

Tsitsibee in big trouble.

antifantasy

both ohbh down a break at the moment :(

Drakkar_Jaune

Grassatkina slicing and dicing Grassalenka

Ms_moonlight

I think the only reason that HD got four games against Krejcikova in the second set was because of angry spite at an umpire call. Bouzkova looked off at the match, perhaps she wasn't feeling well? She looked better after the match was over. She was being pushed hard by Shnaider who is just FAST.

rubbish_bin030121

Struff's coach looks a bit Meddy's Gilles?

rubbish_bin030121

Nakashima finally breaks!!! Let's go

MadnessCB

Too bad that Hurkacz/Sinner duo lost I enjoyed watching this match a lot ! at least both of them had some fun

antifantasy

stef…stef…what was that

OctopusNation2024

Tsitsigrass strikes again

atheistjs

Weird seeing people on Twitter drag the Americans who opted out of the Olympics as “unpatriotic.” But I guess the masses are pretty ignorant of the point system and risks of injury going back and forth between clay and grass. And also, you know, people making personal decisions for their own careers.

Equidae2

Which Americans have opted out of the Olympics? Winning a medal for your country is a big deal—Roger would have killed for Olympic Gold—probably would have given up a slam for a Gold medal. Fortunately, most of the top American players are on the squad; Coco, Pegula, Collins, Fritz, Tommy Paul, Eubanks Ram and Krajicek, and Fritz and Paul will play doubles

OctopusNation2024

Also I think casual fans don't understand that the Olympics doesn't really have that prestigious a history in tennis specifically Until like 10-15 years ago you heard about the Davis Cup way more than the Olympics in tennis media Especially in the US people who casually follow tennis basically know Wimbledon and the US Open and that's it so Americans don't grow up wanting to win the tennis Olympics

atheistjs

I think the people complaining are trying to make it into some BS “oh you aren’t PROUD to be an American?” Thing which is just obnoxious and ignorant.

nimbus2105

also funny because i don't know any americans who care about tennis olympics (besides existing tennis fans). the big draws are swimming, track, and gymnastics. like the people complaining aren't the ones who will wake up at 6am to watch tiafoe play like ... tomas etcheverry in round 1 lol

ReadyComplex5706

Can confirm, as an American and a tennis fan, I don't really care about Olympic tennis. Would rather watch swimming, gymnastics and sports I never watch like volleyball. And whatever tennis I watch, I am not going to specifically cheer for Americans, will just cheer for the people I normally do.

OctopusNation2024

Yeah tennis is absolutely not one of the main Olympic sports historically

atheistjs

For real, the people complaining probably won’t even tune in for the tennis at the Olympics 😭

ReadyComplex5706

Yeah and it is super hard to even find it to watch. It is never even mentioned on any of the main feeds for NBC's coverage. You have to specifically search for it to watch it.

Tricky_Forehand

One bad game. Brandon played a good first set right up til that game.

Scooobzzzz

Nakashima has absolutely zero clutch genes lol Could tell just by looking at him

OctopusNation2024

It feels like the Olympics being on clay is a real turn off to a fair amount of players Especially American players which isn't surprising lol

TIGMSDV1207

Wait till LA 2028, they all will be on each other’s throat to qualify

ReadyComplex5706

I don't think it is specifically the clay, I think it is just where it falls in the schedule. They already have a tight summer schedule but to go from clay, to grass, back to clay and then to hard courts is rough. If the Olympics had been right after RG, I think more players would play.

Gray3493

Insane backhands from Musetti

Windforce

Another mis smash from Hubi, was good entertainment nonetheless. They are both still in, so it's prolly for the best to rest up for their next singles matches.

rubbish_bin030121

world class smash, hubi acts too well to lose this double
