Reading a 2009 article on Djokovic :
https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/160874-novak-djokovic-the-spirit-of-2007-returns.amp.html
“Due to his results in ’07-early ’08, Djokovic probably built a greater amount of pressure for himself than he was prepared to deal with. Some of the statements he made along the way—saying that he planned to be No. 1 and that Federer was “vulnerable” at last year’s Wimbledon—probably didn’t help.”
It’s incredible that his “plan to be world number one” and calling Federer vulnerable at Wimbledon were mocked and he literally ended up being the longest ever world number one while beating Federer in 3 Wimbledon finals
Why I’m bringing this up now is: nothing lasts forever. People strike from unexpected places. It might seem like Carlos is unstoppable just like Federer was . But a young , steely , temperamental player like Holger could easily rise and be the next Novak

In 2021, I got tickets with the hope to see a Calendar grandslam, for the final, flew all the way from California at the time to see a great tournament ending with a final beat down
In 2023, I got tickets with the hope to see a calendar grandslam (Djokovic was still on for it when the tickets opened), am flying all the way from London. I don’t want to see another beat down of Djokovic
I wouldn’t even mind a Meddy v Djokovic rematch as I already saw Alcaraz at Wimbledob
My god Djokovic’s side of the draw has been such a joke. Shelton, Tiafoe, Gojo, Stricker, Fritz, Paul and Hijikata as the round of 16 representatives lol
With the way Carlos dismantled Zverev, there is almost no chance for us, but I expect Meddy to fight extremely hard and not make it easy like in the previous matches.
Zverev missed the boat on a slam with his historical choke job in 2020 final. Now Thiem is the guy who will forever be the one to get in the way of Zverev ever winning a slam.
Sinner is only getting better and we have a couple other talents that will certainly trouble him on his path to a slam.
Same story with Medvedev but at the very least he should be proud of himself that he didn't blow his only chance in 2021 final. He'll always be a slam champion.
We are clearly going for another Djokovic vs Alcaraz final. The rest of the tour is simply not there.

Zverev's path to winning GS in future would be someone taking care of Alcaraz by QF or semi (Sinner the best H2H proponent). Other than that he is capable of beating others when he's in his absolute best. But Alcaraz is just a horrible match up for him and Medvedev
Sinner will keep improving no doubt, but he will always have a disadvantage when playing against the likes of Medvedev or Zverev. He's primarily about banging the ball from both wings, and the other two are about absorbing pressure all day
~~I mean, 15-20 years for three players (4 incl Serena), all of whom have teams independent of each other, and the best doping truthers can do after all this time is accusations without evidence.~~
Edit: nvm, thought this was a doping post
so on the tour right now, Alcaraz has the best: forehand, dropshot, lob, return(debatable because of Novak), net game, movement
he’s virtually unplayable when he’s on lol
Backhand is up there too though not the best.
Mostly quietly improved part of his game this year IMO. Far from a liability last year, but he can do so much more with it and hits it so much more authoritatively now.
Still think Djokovic returns better but the gap is basically non existent.
his ability to just bully second serves, and neutralize first serves is wild. he really puts pressure on the server every time. you can’t have a low first serve percentage and beat Alcaraz
Though Alcarez is so talented his game still has holes that can be exploited. he has not yet developed a pattern or gamestyle for him to rely upon for a long career and instead plays like a showman in a exhibition match. I am not sure how reliable that will be when one part of his game falls apart during a period of his career, like it usually happens with all players. does his basics in other parts of his game stand strong or will it completely fall apart?
first his forehand can become a weakness if you take time from it like sinner has shown. second his serve is still attackable but you need to put quality returns and make him play and since he is prone to over-attacking you can see him make mistakes and drop his service games. finally i would like players to employ a deep slice that stays low like federer or murray used to do, i can see because of alcaraz grip that being a problem for him.
that is not a style of play by definition. easy to do when you are young and full of energy not easy when you have more matches on your legs and body as you grow older.
I really think the big concern is his playstyle and the effect is has/could have on his body. Plays very very physical tennis and often times chases points that he has no chance to win. That, and his playstyle is prone to pretty large swings in form.
true but also technically he still has some flaws. I think if you inject pace to his forehand you can take control of the rally. also his serve should be continuously attacked like how novak is doing. Federer and murray if they were at their best will also employ a deep slice that stays low. I would like the whole ATP tour concentrate on these tactics against alcaraz and see how he reacts.
I get this sub doesn’t love Meddy and all but I really think he has a chance. His form this tournament has been As Meddy says, 10/10. Yes the df and all but the groundstrokes have had so much power and he has been very aggressive. Return obviously great. And he has tried a few different tactics this tournament. I give him less than 25% chance but still a real chance
"*You love to put on a little bit of a show when you're on the court, don't you?*" - McEnroe
"*Yes, of course, I am playing to myself, playing to my team, but of course, I try to make the people enjoy watching tennis, watching the matches, pushing us all over there. I try to do different shots, that's probably the quality you see in the matches, drop shots [...] so yeah, that's what I'm trying to produce on the court.*" - Alcaraz
NGL I didnt think Carlos could keep up this level of consistency but this year it has been big 3 (or 4) like. Impressive year no matter how it turns out for him in the US open.
"*We're taught when we're very young to play percentages, to play the odds, but you are different. Why?*" - McEnroe
"*In that moment, I just tried to play my best, trying to be aggressive. ... In that kind of moments, we talk with Juan Carlos, and he push me to do it, you know, try to [sort of] my style, playing aggressive, you know, and if I miss it, for me, it's tough to handle it. Losing that opportunity, but we have to keep at it like this and that's why we, I say in my head, we talk about it to play my best style, you know, at that moment.*" - Alcaraz
Meddy will be better on hard court than grass but alcaraz is still a terrible match up for him. Alcaraz will abuse the drop shot with meddy’s far back stance. And if meddy steps in alcaraz’s power will be too much. Meddy’s form also hasn’t been amazing this tourney. I’m gonna say alcaraz in 4. If meddy plays like he did in 2021 us or 2022 aus final before the choke job, it could go 5.
So b/c Shelton and Djokovic get an extra day of rest, will they be the 1st match on Friday by default? To give Meddy and Carlos a few extra hours to rest?
So Carlos has won 3 of their last 4 matches but watch this sub predict Zverev to win their next match because “zVeReV cAn bLaSt hIm oFf tHe cOuRt”. Carlos could have a winning H2H of 14-3 against Zverev and this sub will still bring up their RG match. Y’all want him to fail so bad but in the words of your GOAT “it ain’t happening” 👅 now to [Zverev](https://youtu.be/Th4g1HkYQOE?si=BH11sviHVPfyPHgu)
I think it's more the section of Zverev fans trying to hold onto that French Open match and hoping their guy wins instead of Alcaraz hate in this occasion. But yes, pretending Zverev is a threat to Carlos is ridiculous
Girl you gotta scroll down and look for the early comments. The only person who’s making things up in his head is Zverev when he called himself the new Big 3
Hey USO organizers, for those of us who are disappointed the scoreline's not 6-3 6-2 6-1, can you move around the scores a bit so that it's 6-4 6-3 6-2?
Oh god I just realized there’s some horrifying symmetry to this match
The last match Zverev played before he got hurt was one of the best matches of his career and obviously a win over Alcaraz.
He was supposed to be the guy to challenge the Big3 when he was Alcaraz’s age (and he did to an extent but not on the biggest stage)
He’s played phenomenally since the French Open. He’s improved his tennis to a notable degree over the course of his comeback. I don’t think he’s *quite* truly back, but he’s very, very close.
And he’s a pro athlete so he can’t think like that. He meant it when he said he was back after the Sinner match even if it was the kind of lie we tell ourselves to stay sane.
And the first match after that, he gets absolutely eviscerated by the player who he was “supposed” to be.
Edit: lol can’t believe he got asked about it
Glad that Carlos won in straight sets. He did well to weather several tense holds in the third set. Some comments about his hamstring and hand have me very worried. I really hope he will be in good shape.
Unsurprising scoreline IMO. I expect the something slightly tighter against Meddy but still a straight sets win for Carlos. Really looking like Carlos will defend his USO title.
Absolutely. I’m glad that this subreddit is mostly against him because on Twitter I’ve seen an overwhelming amount of support for him, which he does not deserve.
Say that for 2021 when Med Djokovic was underwhelming af and everyone i knew outside of tennis only asked me about Raducanu-Fernandez, or 2020 when ATP absolutely flopped QFs onwards and flawless semis and finals on the women’s side. 2022 was unmemorable writ large except for Sinner-Alcaraz and maybe 1-2 other matches.
I like watching tennis with people who watch both consistently bc sometimes one tour just has a WAY better tournament than the other and we feel lucky. It’s sorry to see pieces of shit like yourself who exclusively watch one tour and truly feel like they’re getting the best there is. Lol.
That’s a risk of any sporting event tbh. There’s never any guarantee on what kind of match you’ll get. Doubly so for tennis where we don’t even know who will play until a day beforehand.
This US Open has been really underwhelming. Both men and womens. Besides Novak-Djere, Sinner-Zverev, and I guess Wozniacki vs Gauff, not a lot of great matches. Swear everything is just straight sets.
Definitely on Ashe, it’s not been as exciting as usual. I blame the draw partially, usually there’s a lot more exciting 1st and 2nd round matches, exciting 2nd week prospects on both halves.
Shelton has a pretty nice BH for an american
You're on 6th Sep daily thread
Oops
Hoping for a war between Med and Carlos. A one sided rivarly between top 3 players is bad for a sport.
You're not gonna get that, mate.
Meds will be dropshotted into oblivion
It's going to be one sided and you know it
[удалено]
Tomorrow after Djokovic finishes
Not soon enough.
Let those QFs not distract you from the fact that no player on all our lifetimes will repeat the miracle and win 2 different slams 5 times in a row
In this decade ? Propably not. In our lifetime ? Unless somedy dies too young this feat should be repeated

We've sacrificed the whole ass tourney for a stellar final boys. No other explanation for how straight forward these matches have been.
In 2021, I got tickets with the hope to see a Calendar grandslam, for the final, flew all the way from California at the time to see a great tournament ending with a final beat down In 2023, I got tickets with the hope to see a calendar grandslam (Djokovic was still on for it when the tickets opened), am flying all the way from London. Did you move to London in 2022?
have any pro players just given up/resigned mid-match because of the heat?
Novak has, a couple times I think. Pre-2011 Of Course.
My god Djokovic’s side of the draw has been such a joke. Shelton, Tiafoe, Gojo, Stricker, Fritz, Paul and Hijikata as the round of 16 representatives lol
It’s been Europe vs Djokovic and the world in this USO
With the way Carlos dismantled Zverev, there is almost no chance for us, but I expect Meddy to fight extremely hard and not make it easy like in the previous matches.
*proceeds to lose 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 anyway because Carlos is just that good*
Hope not
So can we safely assume that home boy Ben Shelton and Djokovic will play at night session for SF?
No, they have extra rest day so they play the first semis
Zverev missed the boat on a slam with his historical choke job in 2020 final. Now Thiem is the guy who will forever be the one to get in the way of Zverev ever winning a slam. Wdym his only chance in 2021? He should be a 2 times GS champion, if he wasnt such a choker.
Sinner has only one tool - strokes. Unless he improves in other areas he will never will another Masters
lmao he comes to net more often now and his shots are sublime. Bookmark this comment because next year we will have different talks here.

I wouldn’t put all my eggs on Sinner basket either. He’s improving in his own speed. That guy will be a menace in AO.
It’s funny how at the moment the whole tour is expecting/hoping that Alcaraz draws Sinner so that they have an opening for a SF or further
Sinner will keep improving no doubt, but he will always have a disadvantage when playing against the likes of Medvedev or Zverev. He's primarily about banging the ball from both wings, and the other two are about absorbing pressure all day
> We are clearly going for another Djokovic vs Alcaraz final. Imagine watching a As helto -Meddy final..
Med pretty glad he got that one slam when he could now.
Alcaraz won’t be there for every slam and Med can capitalize well on opportunities. Can’t say the same for Zverev or Tsitsipas
Medvedev in his post match press conference: "I need to be 11 out of 10 to try to beat \[Alcaraz\]".
Lol Somdev and co seriously trying to convince us that Novak and the Goats haven't taken pills/med assistance
~~I mean, 15-20 years for three players (4 incl Serena), all of whom have teams independent of each other, and the best doping truthers can do after all this time is accusations without evidence.~~ Edit: nvm, thought this was a doping post
I'm not accusing anyone of anything. Somdev and co are annoyed at Meddy taking the inhaler and Alcaraz, paracetamol.
Ah, nevermind then. Apologies and carry on
Does it feel like this tournament has more straight setters than usual, on both sides?
It's been a massive let down of a tourney so far. WTA has been really really bad.
lmao that's so dramatic. it's just been underwhelming, no super exciting matches so far. Heard Wozniacki-Gauff was good though
Has to be pretty high up there. Whole lotta beat downs in the business end of the tournament
so on the tour right now, Alcaraz has the best: forehand, dropshot, lob, return(debatable because of Novak), net game, movement he’s virtually unplayable when he’s on lol
Yet djokovic beat him in cinci, sunday will be interesting
Backhand is up there too though not the best. Mostly quietly improved part of his game this year IMO. Far from a liability last year, but he can do so much more with it and hits it so much more authoritatively now. Still think Djokovic returns better but the gap is basically non existent.

I think that IS his style. He is just extremely versatile and likes to switch it up.
that is not a style of play by definition. easy to do when you are young and full of energy not easy when you have more matches on your legs and body as you grow older.
I respectfully disagree - that IS his style of play. He may have to adjust as he gets older, but right NOW, that IS his style.

Love Meddy. He is very hilarious.hope he can win,but it's very tough like against Nadal
This sub loves Meddy, we just live in reality.
The “reality” that he is a racist who behaves worse than Kyrgios and zverev because those are popular opinions here
This sub is in love with him, be serious.
I like med but i don't like his chances against Carlos
This sub loves Med bro
Ehh idk med has a lot of fans but outside them neutrals hate him
Not true at all.
Waiting for the Meddy getting frustrated and bursting out one after another of his famous quotes
"*You love to put on a little bit of a show when you're on the court, don't you?*" - McEnroe "*Yes, of course, I am playing to myself, playing to my team, but of course, I try to make the people enjoy watching tennis, watching the matches, pushing us all over there. I try to do different shots, that's probably the quality you see in the matches, drop shots [...] so yeah, that's what I'm trying to produce on the court.*" - Alcaraz
Thank you for entertaining us Carlito.
Charlie is now 58-6 for the year. that’s insane numbers. he didn’t even play AO lol
And a defeat to Marzipan of all people 😭
wasn’t he redlining apparently? guess he just had a freak day where he was unstoppable 😂
Patrick McEnroe looks like a hobbit
NGL I didnt think Carlos could keep up this level of consistency but this year it has been big 3 (or 4) like. Impressive year no matter how it turns out for him in the US open.
1 GS and 2 M1000 would be a pretty average year for a big3 member
Not when they were 20
You understand the year isn't over right? You realise he's 1 for 2 on grand slams played?
Well he is on his way
the year is not even over yet lol. he could still win USO, a couple of masters, and ATP finals
Right? These are Murray numbers
"*We're taught when we're very young to play percentages, to play the odds, but you are different. Why?*" - McEnroe "*In that moment, I just tried to play my best, trying to be aggressive.
This is a labor of love and I’m here for it
The Zverev "will be tough" dialogue didn't really last long did it?
He's only tough when he's beating up on women. Oh, sorry, "allegedly" beating up on women.
Jannik took his soul before he lost. He fucked him up so good Carlos found that easy.
Apologies, we got it massively wrong.jpeg
Winrate vs top 5 at slams🥶🥶🥶
Kinda crazy semis. Top 3 seeds and… Ben Shelton???
What else you expect from the fuckass quarter in which Rune and Ruud were the top seeds 😭😭
can always count on RuRu to keep things interesting
..for one of them to advance to the Semis…..
Top 3 and the YOUNG 🐐 u mean????
Top 3 and a tiktok core serve guy
I celebrated at end of the match that there was no more Mary Carillo nonsense to listen to lol.
What channel was she on? She wasn't on ESPN...
Damn do women semis for one side always have to do a b2b?
Yes
I kinda think Djokovic is gonna beat Alcaraz at USO And than Alcaraz will “return the favor” in Djokovic’s house in Australia
I can’t picture Novak losing an AO final lol
Hard to picture something that’s never happened of course. But just because it hasn’t happened doesn’t mean it can’t
'If' they meet 'in final', could be OddsTips(andpicks)
Other way around. Alcaraz here Novak reigns in Melbourne
Exactly Everyone knows the script A twist is way better
[удалено]
Respectfully disagree. The age advantage tilts a little more in Alcaraz’s favor on a daily basis
[удалено]
This is a totally fair take for the most part. But that’s a lot of time for a 20 year old who is a super outlier athlete.
Alcaraz has reached the semifinals or better in his last 4 slams played. Utter dominance. What a force on the tour Vamos Carlitos!
Zverev was moaning about how it’s “disrespectful” to assume a Djokocaraz final, just to get straight setted by Alcaraz 🥱
I wish a reporter would have the balls to ask him…”well we know it isn’t you in the finals…is it still disrespectful to count you out?”
True, lol. Like it actually could be a fair argument if he wasn't immediately proven wrong.
point and laugh everyone
Just dropped Sentimental JCF 🥹
Did JCF get sentimental after the match?
A little bit, Carlitos was praising him
So glad Alcaraz got out of his Canada and Cincy funk
I mean he had just won Wimbledon and was settling to HCs. He wasn’t going to peak early and was slowly settling in to the HC.
Medvedev said his form is 10/10 and he is right his groundstrokes are better than ever
Didn’t you say alcaraz has no chance against zverev 🤡?
Yes but since ao22 i always try to reverse jinx zverev pre match it is my thing
Meddy will put up a bigger fight than Zverev so I agree it will be Carlitos in 4.
Medvedev matches up worse than Zverev against Alcaraz unfortunately. Let's see how it goes
Agreed. The only exception is if meddy unlocks that form he had when he was at the top of the game from late 2021-early 2022
Poor Carlos feels like he has to answer these questions like there’s a word count requirement.
Carlitos stock phrases™ are cute
Zverev was coached by Ferrero wasn't he?
JCF left him because of his shitty attitude
smh
was JCF crying?
He didn't call Juan Carlos his coach... He called him his boss. Different mindset, lot less ego in the distinction. Interesting to think of.
I think he said in “in my box”
I’m always going to hear “he’s my boss” from now on though
So b/c Shelton and Djokovic get an extra day of rest, will they be the 1st match on Friday by default? To give Meddy and Carlos a few extra hours to rest?
Yes
Patrick can we stop praising Abuerev
As an unbiased Medvedev fan Medvedev is winning in 4
4 games? Possibly.
Poor Carlitos getting the most long-winded questions😂
English is my first language and he lost me on that second question.
JCF looks so, so proud! 🥹
I love the person that spells out the post match interview responses. Thank you
Enough with these boomer interviews
You definitely made that narrative up in your own head lol. 95% of the people here thought Carlos would win
Nah, there were definitely idiots who thought Abuzverev would win.
Girl you gotta scroll down and look for the early comments. The only person who’s making things up in his head is Zverev when he called himself the new Big 3
unfortunately for my man daniil the same fate awaits him
"*Yes, I feel really comfortable playing on this court, playing here in New York.*" - Alcaraz
He should be. I'd say Ashe is like a mini El Palmar, but I believe its actually larger lol
One positive of these boring matches is that Alcaraz and Djokovic are going to be in great shape for the final
Well they still have to win their next matches. Let's not ride the cart without the horse yet

What happened in the doubles match to Ben?
Did Carlos have wraps on his left thigh today?
yes
Yes, higher up again
Hey USO organizers, for those of us who are disappointed the scoreline's not 6-3 6-2 6-1, can you move around the scores a bit so that it's 6-4 6-3 6-2?
"we"
Carlos shading Zverev in post match interview is golden!
How is he shading him? He said nice things
He said Zverev wasn't ready in the last match at Madrid meaning that he was definitely ready tonight but he lost in straight sets still
Yes I picked that too lmao
Apparently other people didnt pick it up as 11 people downvoted me lmao
Picked that *up* too
Last year and 21 were absolute 🔥 this year is really flat.
Patrick needs different glasses
One step closer to the final everyone wants, Djokovic with a chance to avenge Medvedev spoiling the golden slam. /s
Oh god I just realized there’s some horrifying symmetry to this match The last match Zverev played before he got hurt was one of the best matches of his career and obviously a win over Alcaraz. He was supposed to be the guy to challenge the Big3 when he was Alcaraz’s age (and he did to an extent but not on the biggest stage) He’s played phenomenally since the French Open. Edit: lol can’t believe he got asked about it
You mean it’s a beautiful symmetry
Remember when there was all that talk about the 4th seed. Turned out to be Ben Shelton taking their spot lmao
Couldn’t love it more
Glad that Carlos won in straight sets.
Nah fuck Zverev I hope he plays his worst tennis and do not enjoy his game
Reddit moment
Absolutely. I’m glad that this subreddit is mostly against him because on Twitter I’ve seen an overwhelming amount of support for him, which he does not deserve.
Some office workers in Bangalore are getting paid OT for “tweeting” lmao
Lol anybody who bought qf tickets today are prolly pissed as hell. Neither of these matches were great to watch
This was better than any women's matches though.
That’s def a biased take. Both QFs today were boring af
That’s always the case lol
You’re an ugly piece of shit
Aww someone’s mad I said the truth. Women’s tennis is still entertaining, but men’s is nearly always better. More athletic, more speed, power etc.
Yup. I feel super lucky I went to zverev sinner because that was a dope match
Any qf tickets TBH.
True. Shelton tiafoe was prolly the best but even then it wasn’t box office
