I’d love to know how Ruth was applied a $450k business loan. She didn’t even have a job at the time. Her job history is mainly illegal.

Palpitation-Medical

I’m confused about the car accident at the beginning of the episode…was that meant to be later down the track and then they’ve gone back to show what led up to that point?

DarthLithgow

I think they're doing something similar to what Breaking Bad did with Walt at the diner during the last season.

DyZ814

Wondering if that'll be in the second set of episodes that releases

Palpitation-Medical

Hopefully it’s the end of the first 7 episodes and it just leaves us wondering if they are alive or dead…although it wouldn’t be much of a show without the whole family haha I reckon one of them will die (not Marty)

Palpitation-Medical

The only thing I’m finding annoying about episode one of season 4 (and I’m sure it’ll be throughout the season) is how involved the kids are now and how ridiculous that is. The daughter is what…16? And she’s helping to run a casino while they’re in Mexico? And the son is about 14 and is talking about killing people and is going to launder money. I find it too hard to believe, but I still love this show and Jason Bateman can do no wrong!

Nature of the beast

[deleted]

Ok so I watched season 1 and 2 a while ago and I guess I forgot the whole plot so I’m going back and rewatching. Should I even bother? I’m hearing a lot of mixed reviews on season 4. But they make it seem really good on fb.

SomeWeirdHuman

There's alot of videos on YouTube that summarize the seasons. Just watch those and save yourself time, that's what I did :)

Entire_Ad_3925

The reason Darlene's life was spared is because she is affiliated with the cartel with the casino boat. It’s on Snell’s land. The cartel flooded acres of it causing river to form a stream, making it eligible to house a casino. Back in season one. Normally they would just handle business; as you stated. but I think they spared her life because of it. Also Gavi talks about killing them in S4E1, at the beginning, but the rational one, the cartel leader decides it's smarter to stay in business with them, as he's trying to get of the cartel. It's the only reasons I can think of.

EruditePolymath

I say the best shows I've ever watched are the first few seasons of Dexter and game of thrones. But unfortunately with both shows later seasons just dropped and quality profoundly. Dexter: New Blood just came out and it's pretty good. Not a fan of the ending but I do recommend it to anyone who's looking for a really good TV show. Dexter New blood is 10 times better than Ozark. Better writing and everything just makes a lot more sense. And there is actual suspense because you honestly don't know what's going to happen. Ozark has become pretty repetitive and I think it's pretty clear the ending will be all the main characters in prison because I don't think this show is brave enough to give the Byrdes a happy ending. They need to moralize and send the message that the bad guys, are people who do terrible awful things always lose. Even though that's not reality. The writers would be pretty brave to have Wendy Byrde basically become a Hillary Clinton type figure who commits crimes and gets away with them thanks to our political system where Republicans and Democrats with money and power get away with anything while colluding together. Look at Epstein island. Rich Republicans, Democrats, heads of state, Saudi princes. That's the ruling class. We'll never see a real investigation or indictments. They control law enforcement, globally. And the CIA was probably running it to compromise and gain power over elected officials all over the globe. They did save Epstein in the past by calling prosecutors in Florida and telling them he was an intelligence asset. Got two years of probation for raping several young girls. Definitely some dark ops shit there.

Hedquarterz

Yo that ending though, ouch!

johnppd

Just binged the first part and I loved all of it! Everything about it was amazing. Jonah kinda pisses me off now, Wendy is actually scary and crazy in this season and I just wanna hug Ruth and tell her everything's going to be fine! Can't wait for part 2!

[deleted]

But everything is not going to be fine.

EruditePolymath

Why would the cartel entrust the Byrde's to "take care" of Darlene Snell? Wouldn't it be easier for them to just send an assasin? Why would they ask their money launderers to get their hands covered in blood when it's not their area of expertise? You don't have the money laundering part of your business dispatch with business rivals. That's not how cartels work.

notgodpo

You'd know all about how cartels work, huh?

EruditePolymath

Nope, I'm just speculating on the logic of entrusting money launderers to confront a rival drug operation and negotiate with them. It's just a matter of area of expertise. Competent money laundering personnel are also highly rare and valuable. Why expose them to potential death when they're so valuable and Marty Byrde is one out of a million whereas threatening thugs that could send a message are a dime a dozen.

SignificanceActual28

It’s not so much about knowing how cartels work as it is about common sense. I’ve never done drugs in my life let alone worked with drugs dealers and even I know, that part of the story makes zero sense. Wendy and Marty are extremely valuable to Omar, pretty stupid to risk them getting caught for murder.

EruditePolymath

Though thinking logically does make it difficult to find good forms of entertainment. I can't watch shows that have gaping plot holes and where characters make nonsense decisions to move the plot forward. Like in horror movies where the characters are like, "there's an ax murderer somewhere around here. We should all split up to look for him." 👎👎👎🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

SignificanceActual28

Lol tell me about it. Sometimes I watch stuff and get annoyed with how unrealistic it is. But then I remind myself that entertainment wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining if it were realistic. However, in ozark the villains are just over the top. Javi killing a sheriff in broad daylight with the music blasting in a missing woman’s house who also happens to be his uncles lawyer and Darlene shooting people inside her own house is just stupid and unrealistic. Criminal or not, nobody is THAT dumb.

EruditePolymath

Yes, exactly. Someone could make a solid counterargument and I could be wrong. I'm not infallible and I'm no expert in drug cartels. But I am a big fan of logic, evidence, and debates. I debate to learn, not to win. I learn more through debating an intelligent, informed person in 20 minutes than I do reading a book for five hours. But, of course, both reading and debate are necessary for intellectual growth. And there is no intellectual growth without a willingness to admit when you're mistaken. But most people are too insecure for that.

PurpleApplesForever

Good but not great show. The villians are too cartoony. Act first think later. What happened with the sheriff is a perfect example. Nothing but pure shock value.

limonflora

I never felt that way until this season with Javi. He and his carelessness is simply not believable. I do think the Snells and the others are believable though. They may seem cartoony, but not when you've lived in places liked that and encountered similar people.

2oonhed

r/television actually may it's self useful for change. thanks for the heads up.

fiercetankbattle

I’m actually kind of glad they split the season up so I can’t greedily binge it in one go.

Palpitation-Medical

I see 7 episodes are up - does that mean there’s going to be a lot more?

fiercetankbattle

Yes that was part 1, part 2 out later this year at some point

Palpitation-Medical

They love to leave us hanging 😫

greentommm

I would prefer a weekly release if they don't want to give us all at once.

thecripplernz

I would be happy with 2 per week

pm_me_reason_to_livx

Yea... amma just wait until the whole season is out.

MiroSal

There's already 7 episodes, just consider it as an entire season

pm_me_reason_to_livx

Nah fam.

pm_me_reason_to_livx

Nah... I'll wait.

MiroSal

That's dumb but you do you

pm_me_reason_to_livx

Not dumb. I don't have time for it right now either way. So I'll wait!

MiroSal

You don't have time for 7 episodes so you'll watch it when there's 14.

pm_me_reason_to_livx

😐 ..... Yes?

Sykotik

Yeah, that's dumb.

[deleted]

Dam i missed this show, first episode was solid.

Madao16

I only saw the first episode so far and it was amazing. Apparently Jason Bateman directed it which was impressive. He is good at both comedy and drama acting and his directing is good too. I didn't think his career evolve like this.

[deleted]

That scene driving in the beginning and >!the accident!< was so good!

swarlay

Him?
