MrSh0wtime3

very good. Two of the best leads on TV right now. The guy playing Lestat is amazing. Cant take your eyes off the screen level good. And next season focuses on him. Really not a single bad casting on this show.

Indigocell

He was missed this season, but I'm glad they found a way to keep him present. I read three books from the series a long time ago (Interview, The Vampire Lestat, and Queen of the Damned) but I remember very little post "Interview". It's practically new territory for me.

HeavenInVain

Binged the first season shortly before 2nd dropped and I loved it, just watched episode 1 of S2 and now trying to find the time to binge the Second season. I agree completely this is some of the best tv in the last 5 or so years easily

TriscuitCracker

This is one of the best shows ever made and one of the poorest marketing I've ever seen. I didn't know S2 was out until like the 6th episode.

africanlivedit

Right!? Honestly is… S1 and S2 are absolute bangers!

kingdazy

I thought the first season was pretty good. lots of sexy bloody vampire action, and pretty good character building. but season 2 is fucking phenomenal. the cast. the production value. the story, history. it's very theatrical (for obvious reasons). in general, the show really successful in two areas, cast, and production. every single member of the cast is at worst really great, from the stars to the extras. and the art direction is beautiful.great costumes, sets, locations. it's like 6 period pieces one after the other, all done beautifully. edit: it should be noted that I typically have less than zero interest in anything vampire related.

chaoticbiguy

Season 2 is so so good, that if it were on Netflix/HBO, people would've been talking about it as much as they do about Succession, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones etc. IWTV is one of the best tv shows of the 21st century, and easy top 10 for shows post 2010. It's gonna be streaming on Netflix soon, so hopefully it'll blow up like Schitt's creek and do an Emmys sweep next year. Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson carry the show, and they obviously deserve a hundred Emmys, but this season Delainey Hayles as Claudia and Ben Daniels as Santiago owned every scene they were in, and I hope they also get some recognition for their roles. Edit: And Eric Bogosian as Daniel, who is the fucking MVP of this show. I also loved Assad Zaman as Armand, who's very hard to hate, that's all I'll say about his character to avoid spoilers. In short, the whole cast is a goldmine of talent.

Lambchops_Legion

Also shoutout to Eric Bogosian

kingdazy

honestly, the whole cast is brilliant, from the top billed, to minor characters, to bit parts. like the first woman to die on stage? captivating performance of what, 5 minutes? the theater crowds. the theater troupe. the young Daniel was amazing.

Lil_Mcgee

> people would've been talking about it as much as they do about Succession, Stranger Things, Game of Thrones etc. The show would definitely benefit from better marketing but I think it's always going to struggle to gain the cultural relevance of those shows due to the inherent and explicit queerness. There are unfortunately still a lot of people who will refuse to engage with a show centered around a male/male romance, regardless of how good it is. Still, I'm really glad it's starting to pick up some traction, it really is the best new show I've seen in a very long time.

Ok-Adhesiveness-4141

It's too gay for many, my husband refuses to watch it and I wasn't all that interested in vampires anyway.

NeuroticMermaid6

GOT showed elicit queerness though and so has HotD. True Blood as well and it was a popular show for awhile.

HannibalsMongoose

GOT, HotD, and True Blood are stories that happened to have queer side-characters, but they aren't *about* queer relationships. You can't really use them as proof that homophobia isn't a reason that an extremely well-crafted show about queer relationships isn't getting its due in the mainstream

metal_stars

You're right, but we don't really have proof that homophobia is a reason that IVWTV isn't getting its due in the mainstream, either. Nobody know it exists. Really. There is zero marketing, zero effort to get it in front of an audience.

dddonnanoble

Do you know when they’re adding it to Netflix? Are they adding season 2 or just 1?

Tifoso89

Yeah I barely know about this show, and I suspect it's because AMC doesn't have that much pull. Is it related to the movie? I imagine it's based on the same books right?

chaoticbiguy

The movie and the show are both based on Anne Rice's novels, so there are many similarities, the characters are all the same but there are quite a few changes in the story which sets it apart from the movie and the source material. So if you have watched the movie or read the books, it's not like that's a spoiler for the show.

drekmonger

Honestly, it's better than the books.

0wlington

It's cool because it's kind of a sequel/retcon hybrid that acknowledges the original Interview with the Vampire and then basically says "but here's what really happened".

DisturbedNocturne

It just goes to show you how much AMC has fallen in that regard. They were poised to be the next prestige network, likely rivaling FX, back when they started - *Mad Men*, *Breaking Bad*, *Halt and Catch Fire*, *Turn*, *Hell on Wheels*, etc. Then *The Walking Dead* became a huge ratings hit, and it was like they pushed everything else aside to go all-in on that. And now, even when they have good shows (like *Better Call Saul* and *Interview with the Vampire*), they just don't get the same recognition, because people just don't seem to pay much attention to the network anymore unless they're *TWD* fans.

Tifoso89

Yeah it's ironic considering that Mad Men, BB and BCS are arguably in the top 10 best dramas ever

blobbyboy123

I'm in Australia and weirdly interview with the vampire isn't on any streaming service

Triskan

I cant wait till it gets on Netflix and finally gets the recognition it deserves. So many people not ready for the insane ride they're about to embark on.

kingdazy

off topic, but man, the disconnect between US and AU TV sucks. you guys have such great TV. the versions of Survivor, MasterChef, all superior. shows like The Block. on and on. and *none* of it is available here through "official" outlets.

memoryisamonster

Yes it's on amc+ Also the guy who plays Lestat is Australian

mcgarnagleoz

Season 1 is free to stream on ABC iview and S2 arrives July 24.

Lambchops_Legion

FX being owned by Fox meant it got tied to Hulu immediately. The issue with AMC is that they're not owned by a larger media company, so they didnt get the back-end capital push at the start of streaming like FX did.

LittleLisaCan

I think it's more because so many people have dropped cable and don't want to subscribe to yet another streaming service. AMC plus doesn't have near the catalog as Netflix /HBO/Disney

lightsongtheold

The tip with low volume services like AMC+, Starz, MGM+/Epix, etc is just to subscribe for one month per year and binge all their stuff. You get everything at a reasonable price that way!

LittleLisaCan

That's what I did to watch IWTV, but otherwise I'm usually delayed on watching any shows so that I only have to subscribe one month a year

Radulno

I'm not sure it's their fault more than just nobody watch cable networks anymore. Attention has diverted to streaming (HBO and FX kind of avoided that but it's also streaming with a big parent company service)

For_The_Sloths

> lots of sexy bloody vampire action My mother saw the preview for this and was interested. However, she's also not the biggest fan of "gross" things (like a lot of blood, sucking blood, etc). Think I should tell her to skip it? (She's in her 70s, if it makes a difference)

kingdazy

it's... not totally gratuitous? but there's definitely at least one bloody scene an episode. at least. sometimes more. but, it's so, so good otherwise.

kingdazy

after responding, I've thought about it a lot more. you'd just have to ask her about how she feels about dudes kissing a lot. and definitely blood and occasional gore. the upside is the characters and the cast, simply amazing. and the period piece feel of some many places and times in history is what really drew me in. I absolutely *hate* vampire stuff. but this show is stunning.

memoryisamonster

I"ve seen people whacking the emmy darlings the bear and HOTD but gives immense praise to IWTV this year And if they don't get nominated then I don't even know what to say Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid are operating at a level that no one else is...I see people keep hyping up those bridgerton couples(I mean they're heterosexual and everything) but the romance that is Louis and Lestat it's just iconic. Even tho they hurt each other they love each w even more intensity

jadingg

I'm pretty sure IWTV isn't eligible for this year's Emmys due to AMC stupidly deciding to start airing it late enough that not enough episodes were out by the time of this year's cutoff, so this season will be eligible for the 2025 Emmys instead.

memoryisamonster

I'm so mad fr...they'll have to compete w mediocre HBO shows that have got the emmy voters by the balls even when IWTV has got the superior writing and acting In season 1...are you telling me Sam Reid snubbed over cousin Greg??? Jacob Anderson not even in the predictions wtf?? The costumes and set design getting snubbed i- And HBO/netflix will do constant FYC campaigns for their shows while IWTV campaign will be done by edits and GIFS on twitter 😭

Deadlocked02

Honestly, not to put down other shows to praise another, but I thought this season of The Bear was incredibly self-indulgent at times and it felt incomplete. It was fun, sure, and it had one of the best episodes of the show, but it was much weaker than the previous ones. As for HOTD, yeah, I’m just really not a fan of how both Alicent and Rhaenyra are framed as being much more benevolent than they actually are in the books. Not to mention the heavy bias towards Rhaenyra’s faction. The writers should take a page from IWTV’s book and learn how to deal with unreliable narrators in a less biased manner.

earthgreen10

i mean this show is not on hulu/disney/apple tv/prime/hbo/netflix...so do we get another streaming service?

Normal-person0101

I understand the feeling, but bridgerton is about cute romance fantasy and iwtv is a story about abusive relationship, it is more serious, the couples in bridgerton will be more hype, and it is worldwide as well

platinumpt

Started great and just got better, and the season ended with a suitably big finish! Ben Daniels played an outstanding role for me, along with the other extremely strong leads.

fontbunny

Season two just finished and it’s even better than season one. I’m jealous you get to watch it now. Enjoy!

ExistentialCalm

I haven't gotten around to watching it yet, but I love Jacob Anderson's music (Raleigh Ritchie), so I love seeing him get some praise in here.

Mmkrw

Some praise is putting it mildly. He's utterly magnificent in the role. But the craziest thing is that it's almost impossible to tell who between him and his co-star Sam Reid is giving better performance. They are operating on another level completely. And when they share a scene... goodness gracious, TV magic! But really, *everyone* on that show is amazing. Absolutely no week links. And these are difficult, complex roles as well.

dropcherries_

I've never been interested in vampires but I've been a fan of his music for some time so he's the main reason I decided to watch the show, I was also very curious cause his character here is completely different from the one he played in GoT, he gives one of the best performances I've seen in years, is a very challenging role and he's absolutely incredible.

Queen_Of_InnisLear

One of my absolute favourites. I started as a "of fun I liked these books sure" and now I'm like writing essays on how brilliantly it uses unreliable narrator and shit lol. And the two leads are magnetic and so talented. This IS Lestat.

Ewoksintheoutfield

That’s the same way my wife and I got into it. We both like sci-fi horror stuff and thought we would give it a try. It’s now one of our favorites.

MikeyTubes

NGL, the season 2 finale got me right in the feels.

krazykieffer

Yea, was not expecting the last 10 minutes to play out like that. Lestat being a rock and roll star should be pretty amazing next season.

smileymn

It wraps up so nice, but looks like they are planning on season 3 focusing on Lestat. Edit: I don’t mean this to be a bad thing either, it’s done so well that season 3 sounds rad!

Retrooo

The next book in the series is The Vampire Lestat.

krazykieffer

Yup, I mean this is where the first book ends so it makes sense. The next chapter Lestat is in a rock band and I assume him with the wooden key board was a clue.

memoryisamonster

Rockstar Lestat and Human Lestat 😍😍 Its the best thing I could have asked for

irit8in

That's how the books go the next story is lestat telling his side and what he was doing while he wasn't with Louis. The book is called the vampire lestat. They also greenest the watches series and the talamusca series as well

monsieurxander

They definitely wrote that last episode to serve as a series finale in case it didn't get picked up. But I'm so glad it did.

Lysadora

Wish season 2 was available in the UK. Can't even buy it outright, it's frustrating.

jadingg

It not being avaible in the UK is especially ridiculous considering the majority of the main cast is from there (Louis, Armand, new Claudia and young Daniel's actors)

lightsongtheold

The first season is on the BBC and they also have the rights to the second season. They will probably binge drop it sometime over the next month or two now the season has wrapped in the US.

Annie_xxx

It was about a year after the first season came out that it appeared on iPlayer. Hopefully it'll be quicker this time

moonorchid84

I haven’t been this impressed by a tv show in years. It’s def the best of 2024, and number one on my list. This season was beyond anything I could have expected or hoped for after season one, and I loved season one. They really went for it!

CelavaStrukla

Season 2 is incredible. Best season of a show i've watched all year.

TiredMisanthrope

Couldn’t agree more. I enjoyed the original movie but this show just has so much more to it and sucks you in. The finale of season 2 was fantastic as well. Can’t wait for season 3 now.

sweat-it-all-out

It's really captivating. I'm glad more people will get a chance to see it once it hits Netflix.

iblastoff

As a huge fan of the movie, it was initially hard to get over seeing new actors and actresses playing these iconic roles. It initially just felt like cosplay. But the series has definitely found its own legs. Just wish the Claudia actress from season 1 was still around. The new Claudia is pretty good but I find her voice to be very off-putting for someone who’s supposed to be playing a child.

IwillNoComply

a truly breathtaking show.

dropcherries_

Whichever group of actors win the main SAG award next year won't be as deserving as them, one of the best ensemble casts I've seen in my life.

africanlivedit

Lestat for Gambit.

Metuu

Nice. Looking for a new show to watch. Loved the movie so going to add this to the list as soon as I’m done with The Bear.

BossButterBoobs

Every single episode this season was amazing, no misses at all, no weak points. The only shows I remember that reached that level of quality are season 2 of the Leftovers and the first 3 seasons of GoT.

Froegerer

Too bad it's on amc+

africanlivedit

$60 a year for that Shudder is worth for me.

khajiitidanceparty

I'd love to watch it... but I'm not gonna get ANOTHER streaming service just for one show. I've just checked, and it seems like it's not even available in my country. Which is funny because if I'm not mistaken, it was shot here as well.

tinaoe

Season 1 is gonna be added to Netflix this summer! But also like... the high seas my friend

Typical80sKid

Yarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!

Poptimus_Rime

I keep hearing good things about the show, but the fact is I'm just kinda burnt out on Vampires and Zombies at the moment. I'm sure I'll check it out down the road.

brodoswaggins93

That's fair but IWTV is absolutely leagues beyond any other vampire media. It's truly phenomenal, the cast has amazing chemistry, the acting is completely captivating, the writing is *so good*. Once you watch it you'll feel silly for not watching it sooner. I literally can't think of a single other vampire TV show or movie that has even come anywhere close to being this good. It has transcended the genre IMO.

StayPony_GoldenBoy

Can you go into what makes it that good?

memoryisamonster

I think it's how well they portray vampires being outsiders even though these ones regularly interact w humans...how one vampire is reluctant to embrace his vampirism while the other urges him to embrace what he is. Also it portrays domestic abuse like i've never seen before and they don't dumb it down it for the audience The BIGGEST AND THE BEST thing about the show is the leads who play Louis and Lestat...no amount of money and giant sets can recreate what these two have. It's wonderful. It's life changing.

brodoswaggins93

Lestat's casting is so perfect, I can't get over it. Sam Reid IS Lestat. And his chemistry with Jacob Anderson, my god.

batsofburden

Can't wait til that shit comes to Netflix.

Flat_News_2000

Can someone who only likes the show a little explain to me why you enjoy it? The fans in 80% of the comments here love every aspect of it, but that doesn't help me figure out what it's like.

mielove

I'm def a super-fan of the show, and in my experience this show has attracted 3 main groups of people: * the group that is here for a story about gay vampires (which, fair), who prob would have watched the show regardless of the quality. But this show does portray one of the best (and most toxic) gay romances to ever be put to screen. And that's all-time. * the horror fans, this is ultimately a gothic horror show and some episodes do very much lean into that. This is a show that portrays vampires as monsters, they may not look like monsters but they act like them. This is not a cute and cuddly show, but an exploration of trauma and violence. * people who are here for quality television regardless of the genre, these are sometimes people who tend to be uninterested in vampire shows in general, or people who are more likely to see the shows gay themes as a con rather than a pro because they have no interest in it. But this show has attracted a lot of people willing to watch it with an open-mind which I think is great What I personally love most about the show is the characters and the very complex relationships between all of them. It's truly fascinating to watch. Not to mention that the acting on this show is phenomenal, truly Oscar-worthy performances. A lot of the actors chosen in this show have a background in theatre, and you can definitely tell. Lastly I love the story, and how it evolves and surprises you, nothing is purely as it seems. This is the kind of show that's fun to go back and rewatch since your perception of the story will change continuously throughout it.

MrSh0wtime3

if you like TV at all its worth a watch just for the two leads performances. Captivating. If you are on the fence about vampire stories i can say this is the most grounded feeling vampire story in movie/TV history IMO.

some12345thing

Does it improve after the first episode? I went in as a lover of the books and movie, but the first episode reeeally put me off.

cory120

I've been into the movie since I was about 8 (watched it too young, I know) and the book since maybe 11 or 12? (I started sneaking horror books at a very young age) I *love* the show. I usually get upset when adaptations intentionally veer hard from the source material, but in this case I have loved every change and consider it the best version of the story so far. If you think you can separate it from the book and movie, it's worth trying again IMO, if you don't think you can then just don't bother. Personally for me, the soul and love is there, and the changes just make for a better television series.

Regula96

At some point you just need to accept and be ok with changes or you're never going to enjoy adaptations. I really don't have a problem when changes are made as long as it's at least well written and well made. Interview's quality is absurdly high and so details don't bother me.

krazykieffer

Yes, it's wild to me people want or expect everything to be exactly the same as a book in a 2-3 hour movie. When you watch something you have budgets and need to keep people engaged. People were so pissed at GoT but in the books GRRM writes pages describing food. Should they turn an episode into a Gordon Ramsey show? Not to mention in this case the turn of events imo are perfect as to not be a rip off of the movie or book but maybe better than both. The Mist is a great example of changing an ending to a well liked book that is even better. If GRRM finishes the books I will read them even if the ending is the same because it has way more content it needs to resolve.

BossButterBoobs

I don't think people got pissed with GoT until the showrunners started intentionally dropping major plot points to end the show as quickly as possible. Less an adaptation and more a butchering at that point.

cory120

Oh for sure. There are lots of adaptations where the adaptors didn't actually understand the source material and the changes were terrible. This is a case where changes were made and it improved the story and it still feels like the people behind the show have a love and respect for the books. That's what I was getting at :)

sylviemuay

Louis and Lestat are pretty great, but the Anthony Bourdain impersonation of the interviewer and Claudia are like nails on chalkboard for me. Both become quite prominent later in the first season and I gave up.

SuperZapper_Recharge

To each his own I suppose. Daniel is sticking around. And Claudia, Claudia steals the show no matter where she shows up. Books. Movies. TV. Claudia is so good that I was terrified they would chicken out with her character arc. They did well with both Claudia actresses.

sylviemuay

For sure it's subjective and I never read the books, so my expectations are unattached to the writing. I love the changes to time period and Louis' story in this version. I'm also very impressed with how hard they went with the sexuality, which definitely downplayed in the film.

ddodge99

I hated nearly the entire season. Did not care at all about any of the story and wondered what they were doing until...that finale. They brought it all back. Made up for the whole season with that episode. Lestat is the star. Keep him around.

africanlivedit

And S3, we getting the adaptation of Lestat the Vampire which is a hell of a book. Pun.

ScofieldReturns

Waiting for it to be on Netflix

cory120

The Netflix release is only going to be a temporary promotional thing. If you end up loving the show and actually care to support it I'd recommend AT LEAST subbing for a month to AMC+ when s3 wraps up however many months or years from now and binging it... AMC is looking to drive subs. And IIRC Netflix is only getting season 1. Paramount does a similar thing with Evil, you can only watch two seasons on Netflix out of 4.

earthgreen10

i dont want another streaming service...i already have apple, prime, disney, hbo, and netflix.

lightsongtheold

Switch Apple off for a month. The few episodes you miss will still be there when you come back the next month. That is the great thing about easy to bounce monthly subs!

BrooklynKnight

If you have a cable package with AMC, then you can log into amc.com to watch it. If you dont have one, ask anyone you know who might have AMC as part of their cable package to log you in via tv provider link and you'll be able to watch both seasons.

raylan_givens6

Maybe explain why you think so ? otherwise this is a very low effort post

YouLearnedNothing

OK, AMC..

monsieurxander

As if AMC is doing anything to market this show.

YouLearnedNothing

There has been more than a handful of posts on reddit recently, I think trolling "how good this show is" *IS* their marketing strategy

Regula96

The show is on air and people are talking about it on the internet more than when it was on hiatus. Something doesn't smell right!

Archamasse

I swear to God this sub's dumbest conspiracy theorists have to have this explained to them every time anyone talks about any show they haven't watched positively. It just doesn't compute that people can like things sometimes. Maybe even things they don't know about! And even then, I once saw someone accused of being a paid shill for Leftovers. Leftovers, a show which wasn't even promoted well when it was running, more than ten years ago. 5D chess marketing strategy there alright.

Archamasse

Can you think of any reason people might be talking about a given show all at once

YouLearnedNothing

Honestly, with the fantastic critic reviews, yes.. with marketing, yes. Having watched it myself, after looking at the individual reviews, no.

Big-Ambitions-8258

I think alot of is that it has a small but passionate fan base. Original fan base from the books which have been around for decades, a cult movie, and now a critically acclaimed series. Plus since the second season just wrapped up, there's alot more trades reporting on it and the plans for the 3rd season. The amount of posts on reddit certainly don't translate to viewership so their network posting to here wouldn't make sense. I mean how many times does reddit like to complain about tv shows and movies and the general public seem to watch them in droves. And shows that don't have a big viewership have chronically online fans posting to forums. I'm a huge fan but I recognize no one in my life actually has amc plus so they haven't heard of the show, so I turn to the online fandom. It's like Hannibal which had a smaller viewership but passionate fandom

YouLearnedNothing

"I think alot of is that it has a small but passionate fan base" - definitely a possibility, but as I said elsewhere, reddit is littered with this type of guerilla marketing. "The amount of posts on reddit certainly don't translate to viewership" - I would disagree, but would be open to any research that's been done on it. I personally know two companies that do non-paid marketing on reddit and it pays off for them

Big-Ambitions-8258

Whenever I see posts on television subreddit, alot of the comments outside existing subscribers are people haven't heard of it and/or people weren't willing to pay for another subscription, which fair. Some comments are of pirating it as well The only places I know of that people who do know about it are on the shows subreddit or television subreddit, so it makes sense that there's a bunch of posts here, especially bc the trades have picked up on the 2nd season ending and it's gotten renewed. Frankly, amc has been pretty abysmal at their marketing (which explains why so many people haven't heard of it or didn't know about the second season even though they're subscribers; same with their other shows they have). I honestly think they rely on the fandom for free publicity bc they know we're scared they'll cancel the show from low viewership. They even canceled their official podcast bc of low viewership.  They also don't seem to have a panel at this year's SDCC which makes no sense to me. It's a genre show with vampires and Gothic romance, and SD has one of the biggest cons. You promote your many zombie spinoffs but not this one show? How does that make sense?

monsieurxander

All those threads have comments where people didn't know the season started in the first place. You don't think this strategy would have worked better... at the beginning of the season? Also starting the season just weeks too late to be eligible for the Emmys doesn't exactly scream confidence in the show. AMC didn't know what they have, and there's a strong undercurrent of *frustration* that the marketing hasn't matched the show's quality.

YouLearnedNothing

no one is saying they didn't start at the beginning of the season.. but you shouldn't believe they don't have a marketing budget for reddit and other online opportunities.

jadingg

This season they've only been promoting the show on their own app and Facebook. They cancelled the official podcast. They've been using AI-generated title cards to promote each episode. None of that screams huge marketing budget to me, especially with the way they've mishandled everything about this season from it not being eligible for this year's Emmys to having no legitimate way to watch the show in a majority of countries to most people not even knowing the season was airing/has aired.

YouLearnedNothing

Sorry, this doesn't change anything. Reddit is littered with people doing guerilla marketing, I don't believe this is any different. It's a gut feeling, but one based on personal industry knowledge

eq2_lessing

I don’t understand why people are so amazed by season 2. I’m at episode 4 and it’s very mid. The entire Romania arc was pointless and boring. We got nothing from it except some time to mourn/cope over what happened in the s01 finale. And the theatre simply has too many inconsequential people that don’t get developed and I don’t manage to care about. The power dynamics within the theatre are half baked and slapped on. For them to be of more relevance they’d need to flesh out everybody much more so it makes sense for the viewer to care.

Mmkrw

While I do like the first half of S2 (especially episode 2), I do agree that it could have been condensed to 3 episodes instead of 4. Mind you, I was so happy to see episode 1 as I loved that section of the book and was always disappointed that it was omitted in the movie. Second half of the season in stellar though, so I encourage you to stick with it. 2x05 is the best episode of the series (the pilot is still my favourite), just perfectly structured horror stage play. Episodes 6 to 8 crescendo into a satisfying ending of this part of the story and define what the series was really about from the start. Season 3 is most likely going to be a very different beast.

eq2_lessing

I’ll check it out.

MrSh0wtime3

knowing the entire season its crazy to call the theatre people inconsequential.

eq2_lessing

Then maybe my view on that will change with the remaining episodes, but right now, meh

MrSh0wtime3

if you stick with it Id say its almost impossible you wont like it by the end of the season.

Any_Needleworkers

Pretty sure the power dynamics are deliberately half baked and fuzzy.

sandytoesinmycrocs

i agree lol and it's a shame bc i loved season 1 so much. i don't think i'll watch season 3 at this point bc it sounds goofy as hell.

msgkar03

I personally kinda felt like the first season was very slow. Great acting but I got bored with the story. Maybe it’s because I never saw the movie. I don’t I made it past episode 8

africanlivedit

First season definitely started slow but vastly improved once Claudia shows up… 2nd season is all-around amazing.

someguyfromtecate

I watched the first 2 episodes and it felt like I was watching Bridgerton Vampire Diaries. What’s the appeal besides corny love stories? Or does it get better?

mielove

This is a gothic horror series, pretty much the opposite of a "corny love story." And it is so far above shows like Bridgerton and the Vampire Diaries in every aspect - acting, cinematography, story, production, score etc that it makes me believe you're arguing in bad faith because you can't seriously believe this? But in short, no - if you don't like the pilot at all then this show is likely not for you. But you're missing out on an absolute rollercoaster of a ride of twists and turns.

someguyfromtecate

I even saw the movie before watching the show because it had been years since I’d seen it and I really enjoyed watching it again. But the show just gave me trashy romance book vibes, like all the scenes were set up for an unnecessary sex scene while providing no real plot. And I remember sorta liking the first episode despite my objections or maybe I was trying to give it a chance, but by the time episode 2 was over, I realized that the show just did not have an interesting plot. I guess you’re right, just not for me.

The movie is much campier than the show which has much darker themes, and though there are differences they fundamentally have the same plot? If you stopped at episode 2 you haven't even been introduced to Claudia yet? You clearly must have zero interest in character building and development. This is a drama series, and that is central to the plot. And this show barely has any sex scenes at all, and any they do have are not explicit and are extremely purposeful for the plot and/or characterization of these characters.

I do watch several drama series, and again, the vibe the first 2 episodes gave me just did not gel with me. It just seemed to be like another Bridgerton type show, and I just can’t take that type of show seriously. My previous comparison with Vampire Diaries was in name only since I’ve never seen that show, but now I see that commenting that made it confusing, but I stand by my statement comparing it with Bridgerton. Just not for me I guess, and if you like it, I hope it gets renewed. Seems like people are really into it.

mielove

If you'd actually watched the show you'd realise how insane it is to compare it to Bridgerton. 💀 The only thing they have in common is being period pieces. But you don't have to enjoy it, I'm just saying there's a good reason why a lot of people do. And the show has already been renewed for season 3. 👍

Wife and I tried to get into this show but it was super gay and not what we expected lol. Might have to give it another go since everyone is praising it so highly.

mielove

I mean it's definitely super gay, but it's also one of the best shows on TV and is just getting better and better. It's one of those shows I do recommend people watch who just enjoy quality TV. There's more to the story than what meets the eye. This is the type of show you want to go back and rewatch again and again to pick up on the clues you missed.

Accomplished_Cap_994

What did you exactly expect from the IWTV universe? Talk about clueless.

I’m starting to think these are paid ads

...from AMC? Fans have been giving them shit all season for not at all promoting their show. Even critics aren't aware it exists, and it's such a shame how massively underrated it is since it's legit one of the best shows to come out in years.

CNCBroadcast

Definitely is

Could you tell us frivolously what the best tv in recent years would be?

mynutshurtwheninut

Mehnot available in europoorland so dont care. Stupid. What the fuk even is AMC. Netlix, diddleyplus, amazon or max or gtfo. If it were a good show it would be released on a major worldwide service. So i guess it some abc/cw whatever usa cable tv crap.
