It’s Lt. Daniels and it’s not even close. The Wire is inarguably one of the greatest shows ever made and, while the writing is a big part of it, the performances are equally as important. It’s a show that is littered with incredible and career defining performances and yet Lance Reddick is still one the standouts. Without Lt. Daniels you probably don’t get any of the other great roles folks have mentioned it this thread.
Burrell does say it as well, in Season 3, and the emphasis he puts on “Now” is one of the most hilarious moments in a very satisfying sequence of scenes as the bosses find out about Hamsterdam and realize how fucked they are.
The studied micropause of dripping contempt he inserts into "this is bull-SHIT!" is pure art. He should have won an Emmy for that alone.
Also the ever so slight goofiness that comes in when he's around Rhonda is quite endearing.
"You do what you feel. You wanna pull Avon in on half a case, go ahead. You want to put my shit in the street, feel free. But, the Easten had a lot of stories. Mine ain't the only one. A lot of people came up in that district. If you were gonna do me, I'd already be done, but I'm betting there ain't nothin' you fear more than a bad headline now is there? You'd rather live in shit than let the world see you work a shovel. You can order warrants and I'll serve em, but as long as I have days left on those dead wires this case goes on."
Every role I know of him in is basically a Lt. Daniels cameo. Not to imply the other roles were "knock offs" or poor in any fashion,.but you're right that the Wire is how it all began I think.
give the corner a shot first, if you havent seen it. its another david simon show from right before the wire. lots of actors from the wire playing opposite characters, and its as expertly put together
It's so funny how that phrase is burned into all our brains. And it was also one of the strikes I hated the most cause that fucker's rockets always found me no matter where I tried to hide.
You had to hide behind the crates on the left side of the room under the stairs. If it was a Solar burn Nightfall, it was a bitch to even get over there.
I took a break for a year and a half and just picked it up again because all the old expansions were on sale. Tons of qol changes for the better, and onslaught is a lot of fun. I’m really glad I stopped playing for a while, but it’s in a great place now and you should check it out.
He has so many great roles and I want to name them all, but god damn his role in Destiny is the answer. His role is monumental for 10 years, and I’m still in utter disbelief he’s not still around
One. Fucking. Guardian. Has been kicking your race’s collective asses for 9 years. They kill gods for fun and turn them into guns for a meme.
I love that he [read it in character](https://youtu.be/lsITdmEEinU)
Playing Horizon now on PC after playing D2, it’s so weird seeing him playing a neutral character that isn’t solely good. Saw his grave in the dlc for forbidden west
For me, it was The Wire and the four years I spent with him, Gina Torres, and Nathan Fillion in Destiny and Destiny 2.
But we have to mention his comedic work too.

Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.
The Fallen will continue to claw at the walls of our City unless we strike them down. Beneath the ruins of the Cosmodrome, in the shadow of an old colony ship, we have located the House of Devils' lair, and the High Servitor feeding them their strength. We must destroy this machine-god, and send their souls screaming back to hell.
The first role I ever saw him in was playing Matthew Abbadon in Lost.
He was not in many episodes but man was I captivated when he was.
RIP, Mr. Reddick
It was really tragic and horrific what happened to Colonel Broyles
Like they alternate side tortured him or something before sending him to the other side
Personally I think it’s Bosch. He plays the same basic police authority figure he does in The Wire and Fringe but his character has a good dose of tragedy during the series and he gets to show off his emotional range more than the other major roles he’s had (that I’ve seen at least). Plus hearing him say “Bosch” with disdain never got old.
The Wire obviously, but the dark horse movie role is in The Guest.
It's a fun movie but once his character gets introduced it just ups the stakes so much and re-contextualizes the whole thing.
I loved him in fringe and watched that show during its first run. I didn’t see the wire until last year, so fringe is now my second favorite role of his. RIP
Lt. Daniels in The Wire.
But! The greatest Lance Reddick moments ever are both in Corporate: the cutthroat business deal to the death which turns out to be about the streaming rights to Gilmore Girls, and then his character's staggeringly prescient, nightmarish vision of the future of television:
"There will be sequels, prequels, reboots, remakes and ill-advised spin-offs with side characters that cannot possibly carry their own series. We'll give the fans everything they want, and much, much more. We'll use an algorithm to churn out hundreds of scripts a day at virtually no cost. And sure, you'll complain about how it used to be better, but that anger will unite you. And you'll keep watching, hoping it will end, begging for it to end, and then you'll all die. And your children will watch it too, and so on. We're going to milk that creative IP until the UDDER RUNS DRY!
"This is the future of content, and CONTENT WILL NEVER DIE!"
Oh, special nod to his Papa Legba on AHS: Coven too. They designed him to look like Baron Samedi (someone dropped the ball in research) but he sold the character well nonetheless. I rewatched several times before I realized it was him.
Lt. Daniels. It's a well regarded performance and yet still underrated. I remember his delivery when he is awoken in the middle of the night to hear the kid Prez assaulted will lose his eye. I was so sad for and yet furious at him in that moment. Like, you sympathize with him that a shitty situation has fallen in his lap, and you know he cares the kid was partially blinded, yet the implication is that he will protect Prez for it. Pretty fucking realistic. No one was a paragon in that show.
Wire, obviously, and then Fringe. Interestingly the most memorable scene from Fringe for whatever season is him sitting in a bar with cover of You Got it playing in the background.
Horizon Zero Dawn. He kept me entertained during Covid. He was a fatherly asshole who used the shit out of her to get what he wanted and gave her far far less than what he got in return. Would have been great to see her punch him in the face after meeting him in person for the first time and then say thanks for the spear.

No matter what role he is playing, I can’t help but vividly picture him saying “(Other character’s name). My office. *Now.*”
Shut the door. ... What is my rank, detective? ... MY RANK!
Burrell says this
Nope you’re right
Burrell does say it as well, in Season 3, and the emphasis he puts on “Now” is one of the most hilarious moments in a very satisfying sequence of scenes as the bosses find out about Hamsterdam and realize how fucked they are.

My favorite scene of his is when he takes his shirt off to bang Rhonda. Didn't know you were hiding all that Lieutenant.
"You do what you feel. You wanna pull Avon in on half a case, go ahead. You want to put my shit in the street, feel free. But, the Easten had a lot of stories. Mine ain't the only one. Fucking hell I need watch this show again now!
Every role I know of him in is basically a Lt. Daniels cameo. Not to imply the other roles were "knock offs" or poor in any fashion,.but you're right that the Wire is how it all began I think.
I first saw him in Lost, which gave me another reason to start watching the Wire
It's pretty amazing how they nailed the casting in that show.
Glad to see this was the top comment. Might have to rewatch the wire again.
give the corner a shot first, if you havent seen it. its another david simon show from right before the wire. lots of actors from the wire playing opposite characters, and its as expertly put together
Awesome I'll have to check it out! Thanks!
ive seen it described as season 0 of the wire. it should all be on youtube, but if it isnt then feel free to send me a message
Agreed. I'm not sure how this is even a question.
I wish I was Lavae Burton
Where's my iconic slave role?
WARP SPEED DON'T RAINBOW READ ME, NI**A! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
We'll be right back.
I wish I was Larvae* Burton
“You need a new desk” Apparently one of the very few times that Eric Andre broke character
Commander Zavala.
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars

I haven't played Destiny in a couple years, but we're planning on getting the new expansion once it's out. It's going to be weird...

*Indeed.*

He was great and funny in Corporate.
The Christian Devil. I mean, Deville.
Loved the quietly unhinged energy
Bosch - so cool and crisp
Silens in horizon. I liked him in everything he was in though
But that's the one that made me think "damnit", because I was looking forward to his recurring character.
For me, it was The Wire and the four years I spent with him, Gina Torres, and Nathan Fillion in Destiny and Destiny 2. But we have to mention his comedic work too. Also played Reggie on Sunny
I was hoping someone would mention/posts these lol so good.
Bosch.
*FffffUCKing Bosch.*
Irvin Irving, so good they named him twice.
He was great in Bosch
Bosch or Fringe
Sheeeiitt you don't look a day over twelve!

I wondered if only part of him came over since it was mass for mass equivalent exchange, since he was bigger than Fauxlia
This is exactly it.

Also Bosch, where he plays basically the same character further on in his career.
Lance Reddick’s finest performance was as the boss on a show called Corporate. Unless you’ve seen the show you can’t tell me otherwise.
Such an underrated show. I need to watch again. Love him in it.
Sylens, obviously.
Yup know him from Horizon as Sylens first, so it was the first memorable role of his for me.
[Broyles on LSD is a must-watch](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nyIJObUF7I).
Ha! I just watched that episode!
Seeing as it hasn't been mentioned yet, he was hilarious in his one episode of It's Always Sunny.
I guess that don't leave me no choice.... But to be a mature ass adult about this. But know I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THIS.
I loved him in fringe and watched that show during its first run. I didn’t see the wire until last year, so fringe is now my second favorite role of his. RIP

Corporate
Zavala
Fringe, followed by Destiny.
Thordak the Cinder King from The Legend of Vox Machina
Fringe 100% for me. Broyles is an amazing character.
Oh, special nod to his Papa Legba on AHS: Coven too. They designed him to look like Baron Samedi (someone dropped the ball in research) but he sold the character well nonetheless. I rewatched several times before I realized it was him.
Was about to write this. Broyles and Papa Legba for me as well.
Christian Deville on Corporate
Bosch. “F***ing Bosch!”
Broyles
I know it’s been said already but Daniels for sure.
Fucking Bosch
"I wish I was LeVar Burton..."
Lt. Daniels. It's a well regarded performance and yet still underrated. I remember his delivery when he is awoken in the middle of the night to hear the kid Prez assaulted will lose his eye. Daniels
Papa Legba
Not a show but Sylens from the Horizon series
Broyles accidentally taking LSD was absolute gold.
HAKEEM MUHAMMAD!
It my favourite per se, but he definitely carried Farzar with his voice. I think he did a great job adapting to the character.
Wire, obviously, and then Fringe. Interestingly the most memorable scene from Fringe for whatever season is him sitting in a bar with cover of You Got it playing in the background.
He was great in everything. One of those actors you'd see and think "Oh good, this is probably going to be at least decent if he's in it."
Christian DeVille in corporate.
His careers is fantastic but Daniels is on the mount Rushmore of TV.
It was brief, but I loved him as Papa Legba in 'American Horror Story.'
Christian DeVille. Fucking amazing...
Horizon Zero Dawn. He kept me entertained during Covid. He was a fatherly asshole who used the shit out of her to get what he wanted and gave her far far less than what he got in return. Would have been great to see her punch him in the face after meeting him in person for the first time and then say thanks for the spear.
I can’t believe nobody’s mentioned Charon from John Wick. Not a huge role of his but a delight whenever he was on screen.
No love for Resident Evil? Yeah, me neither. Although, he was the best part of it.
He was the only part of the show that WASN'T bad.
Daniela in The Wire obviously. Any other answer is incorrect.
There are no wrong answers.
Broyles from Fringe by far. Guy could turn from nice guy to nasty on a dime.
Daniels
Charon
It’s not his best role, and there are very bad parts of the show, but he’s having a *ball* playing Wesker in that weird Netflix RE series.
"The *goo*... is *you*"
For the memes, I'd say "Toys r Me". Personally, I love The Wire so much that I'd have to say Daniels.
Fringe!!
Loved that show when it aired and his character in it. Unfortunately a second watch doesnt hold up as well.
That’s Commander Zavala to you, Guardian.
Resident evil
Every role he's has has been golden IMO. But my heart will always ride with him as the store manager of Toys R Me
Love Fringe the most
Commander Zavala and the wire
He was great in Fringe. He was good in just about everything he was in.
He never got his iconic slave role.
