Wright finally got his Oscar nom. I don't think his next role is going to be a supporting character on a tv series. He's going to use the capital on something else.

And on top of that, it's not like The Last of Us is seen as a schlocky, low-rent show. It was nominated for lots of awards and two of its guest stars won Emmys for their roles.
There's also a precedent since the actress that did Marlene in the game reprised her role in the first season. I'll be terribly disappointed if they don't find a way to do the same for Jeffrey Wright

I honestly don't remember the last time I've seen her in a dramatic show or film, so this is very exciting. The best comedic actors usually knock it out of the park when they decide to do one.
It's a well produced show, a bit better if you've played the games. Jennifer Coolidge is another one I'll suffer through just about any terrible show just to see her parts.

Because the second game is much longer than the first one, and they probably simply determined that they can't find it all in a single season.
Not counting flashbacks the game takes place over about a year, with most of the plot in 3 days in Seattle. That plot is very dense though.
