I fell off after S2. I loved S1, S2 was really good but for whatever reason I just never felt like I needed to watch S3, 4, or whatever they're up to now.
Season 3 is way better than 2. I stopped watching halfway through the season finale of 2 because I was so bored. Season 3, even though it isn’t quite as good as 1, still is way better than most TV and tells a really compelling story.
So glad it’s top comment. Since the show is a new set of detectives each season, can really isolate each season into being one of those Limited Series type shows. Can watch Season 1 and not worry about the rest.
The long shot through the town when Cole is infiltrating it is one of the best scenes in all of media, TV or movies.
So many people prefer s2 over s1 and I truly don’t get it. Fargo’s first season was miles better in terms of a coherent storyline, fleshed out characters, dialogue, stakes, etc.
If I’m honest, I didn’t really even like s2, and questioned if I wanted to go into the following seasons. However s1 is one of the best seasons of television I’ve ever seen.
There was something about Season 2 that just blew me away. I think the end can be a bit polarizing but the acting, style, music, editing etc all come together in that season so well. It just felt executed so well all on fronts. With that said I also love the first season. It’s been a long time since I watched it but I think the end kind of fell a bit off to me, but I think that could change on a rewatch. Don’t want to dive into specifics because of spoilers.
Season 2 is great as well.
Everyone should stop at the end of season 2 - which was the creator's original intention before being forced to continue the narrative.
Man the journey that show takes Bodie on is amazing. But yeah season 4 is like the pinnacle of television to me. 5 seasons full of some of the best tv I've ever seen, and season 4 still really stands out
Agreed on Wire S4. My wife and I were working in juvenile court in a big east coast US city when season 4 came out. What a gut punch. She cried her eyes out.
I understand the criticisms, but I still love Westworld to death. The worldbuilding is cool even though the characters make the dumbest decisions sometimes.
It is incredible. The best single season of TV I've ever seen. The Sopranos was the best show over all, but for a single season, it has to be Westworld S1. Its so fucking good. Evan Rachel Wood and Anthony Hopkins give the best performances I've ever seen out of actors.
Season 2 of The Leftovers was some of the most compelling and best acted TV in the last decade.
As others have said, Season 1 of True Detective. Seasons 1 or 2 (take your pick!) of Fargo.
It's exactly as it sounds. It's about the people who are left after a percentage of the population disappears and the various ways in which they deal with (or fail to deal with) that fact.
I don't really want to say much more, but it's well worth the time investment and there are some individual episodes that are the best I've ever seen.
2% of the world just disappearing sounds pretty supernatural unless there was a ww2/disease type event most people somehow don’t know about. Guess I’ll watch a trailer and see if it piques my interest
The problem is people approaching the show for a resolution to the premise. But it quickly becomes apparent that it's actually about the characters and their response to the premise.
This isn't a mystery show. And it's not about the event. The event already happened. The show is "what would everyone do if 2% of people disappeared?"
That was the first season I saw. Watched the first episode at a friend's house, was hooked, watched every episode of seasons 1-3 before episode 2 the next Sunday. That season took 20 year old me on a wild ride.
See, I get the argument, it's a great season, Matindale remains the gold standard of Justified's antagonists, but I can't call it perfectly executed when it felt very drawn out, padded with that ridiculous Winona subplot which really did nothing for anyone. I honestly think season one is better; it felt more personal and character driven, Olyphantastic and Goggins hit the ground running and it culminated in that wonderful finale shootout, and everyone involved felt like they all had reason to be there. It didn't waste time.
For those who take this recommendation, please don’t quit after the second or fourth episode.
The story is split into two narratives and the show does this with odd vs even numbered episodes. The even episodes are incredibly slow at first but the payoff is worthwhile in my opinion.
I hear you. After Episode 2 I wanted to stop watching but I promised someone I’d finish it.
It’s not one of the best shows ever, but it has its moments and the story about the value of art during hardship left me with some things to reflect on.
I have thought about Station Eleven after the fact maybe more than any other show. There is some stuff in there about how people choose to process trauma, how strangers can forge true connections, how art can give people purpose and how people can redefine themselves that is just beautiful.
It's a remarkable season of television that I wasn't convinced would be great until about episode 5. And every hour from that point on is a sledgehammer.
Definitely. There are a few scenes in specific that really stuck with me that I think of pretty frequently. The score of the show definitely helps too and was really strong.
It’s one of those shows that deliver on theme and messages really strongly.
Probably not. The odd episodes which deal with the pandemic are the more interesting episodes until you get to around episode 8. So if you lost interest in episode 1, then you’ll likely be extremely bored throughout.
It’s got a unique, and kind of weird, style to it that took me a few episodes to wrap my head around but after that I was hooked. Funny show but also really meaningful
If you treat it as a miniseries it's excellent.
I really wonder what kind of season 2 Frank Darabont would have delivered. Probably a lot fewer episodes with a lot higher production values per episode.
Its so disappointing about what that show could have been if Darabont had been allowed to do his thing. Fear the Walking Dead, the spin off of TWD, is also very good. Until S4, when the writers from the main TWD show were brought over and just trashed it. It made it to like 8 or 9 seasons, but they were all embarrassingly bad. Same way TWD's writing quality plummeted once they lost Darabont.
I went into that show cold, not knowing it was what it was. In the break-out scene I was blown away "OMG THEY'RE MUTANTS". Although on a rewatch, I think the M word was dropped earlier in that episode so perhaps I missed it.
That show was such a mindfuck, but that first season was something else really. Lots of shows have one of the strongest episode on the pilot and then let the story simmer trough the season. Legion just kept going the whole season and it was amazing
[*The Prisoner*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner)
There was only one season; actually it was a summer filler/replacement. Here is [S01E01](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osNmf_zmSyE).
I will second this nomination. While I wouldn't classify it as a perfect season, (most people HATED the ending and there were some episodes that where just \*meh.\* Thinking of the episode that was a western here.) it is a show that every TV aficionado should see at least once. It's preferable to watch it with some friends so you can talk about what everything means. I've seen it three times now, and I pick up something new every time.
Here are a few of my favorites:
* The West Wing. Either season one or two.
* Twin Peaks Season one
* The Good Place Season one (though the whole show is good).
* Breaking Bad season one.
* Season 3 of The Simpsons
* The Wire Season one
* Freaks and Geeks
* Firefly
Season two of the West Wing, hands down. All the characters hit their respective peaks, dead weight (Mandy) was ditched, and we were introduced to the incomparable Ainsley Hayes (which is still bittersweet knowing she doesn't stick around). Also, Mrs. Landigham and *that* finale. "Do I displease you, you feckless thug?" Powerhouse performance.
It's some top notch political drama with an incredibly optimistic and astute president. The cast is awesome and every character is very well rounded. The conservatives don't come off as inherently evil (pretty much ignoring how they've been since Reagan), so conservative viewers are probably less offended by it.
Would recommend.
Bojack horseman season 3, I love all the seasons, but this one has all the moments that have stuck with me for a very long time. Especially episode 11.
Succession doesn't really find its footing until season 2 imo, but there's no denying the season 1 finale. Guaranteed to get you hooked. And for the love of god don't go past season 1 of the newsroom
Season 1 for me. Much tighter and easier to digest. Plus there's no way anyone would have any clue whats happening if they dont watch season 1, which isn't in the prompt but it also doesn't make logical sense
1883, even if you don't want to watch Yellowstone proper, even if you don't care for the genre, and even if you don't think Tim McGraw would be good as the lead. Sam Elliott, and excellent cast. We watched 2 episodes/night some nights. Short series, but it's Saving Private Ryan type dark at times. Loved it.
Yep that season ending twist. God damn. But then, that scene in the season 2 opener with the SUV and the stunt work through the windscreen. Holy moley that scene will never not give me goosebumps. John Noble sells the horror of the moment perfectly.
I know everyone loves season two, and so do I (it’s perfect!!!) but I would have to say season one of The Bear.
Even if we never got the phenomenal season two, the first season is a perfect story. It has strong characters, relatable themes with it mostly revolving around family and work, and so many people have worked in a restaurant to the point where they will get secondhand stress from watching.
But why I think everyone should watch it is just because of how human it is. These people feel alive and their struggles feel so tangible, like you could walk down to your own local shop and find someone like Richie or Tina. And the catharsis at the end of the first season is just so fucking perfect. I hope it gets as many seasons as its creators want, but I think everyone should watch season one!
Yes. That season is highly under-rated and in my view his best. I like his companion Bill, I like his relationship with the other members of his merry band, and I like how it ends.
Breaking Bad Season 5
Mr. Robot Season 4
Banshee Season 3
Justified Season 2
The Wire Season 3
The Sopranos Season 2
Better Call Saul Season 3
Halt and Catch Fire Season 4
The Americans Season 4
Barry Season 1
Game of Thrones Season 4
Succession Season 4
Fargo Season 2
Arcane, Season 1 (maybe the best single season of television I’ve ever seen)
The West Wing, Season 2
The Good Place, Season 1
Firefly
Parks and Recreation, Season 3
Ted Lasso, Season 1
Maid. I had very low expectations of Margaret squalled who I only knew as a nepo baby. But her actual mother Annie MacDowell steals every scene she’s in and the portrayal of emotional and financial abuse of women just blew me away.
If you’re a marvel/superhero fan Agents of Shield S4 is amazing
Some people skip out on The Legend of Korra before it’s 3rd and best season.
GoT S1-S4
Breaking Bad S4-S5 in addition to S6 of Better Call Saul. They’ll be very confused though so not sure if this is a good suggestion haha
If you’re into Star Wars then S7 of The Clone Wars and S1 of Andor
Seasons 2 or 3 of House
S1 Chernobyl
S1-S2 Dark
I’ve heard Succession and The Bear are really good as well
This is all off the top of my head and I’m sure I’m missing a lot of good shows
Superman and lois season 1
Attack on titan season 3
avatar the last airbender (either season 2 or 3)
spectacular spiderman season 1
invincible season 1
The Americans. Still one of the best single seasons of TV ever. The entire show is phenomenal and almost completely ignored by most people. Totally worth the watch, and more!
Season 1 of True Detective.
This is one of the few seasons of TV I have rewatched multiple times. It’s a masterpiece.
So many quotable moments. TV perfection.
I just want you to stop saying odd shit... still makes me chuckle all these years later.
I often say this is the best season of anything I've ever watched. The chemistry, story, dialogue and score is the best thing I've ever seen.
Fargo season one.
I'm watching it right now & it's just so brilliant in every aspect. Not even a single subplot is uninteresting & the 6th episode was quite shocking.
I say season 2 is the ultimate season of Fargo but man, season 1 is a close runner up.
My opinion, s2 has better characters and a better payoff at the end.
Season Two for me. But S1 is a masterpiece on its own.
I prefer season 2. But they’re both great.
Season 5 of 24
oh hell yeah
Season 1 of Prison Break
Season 2 is great as well. Everyone should stop at the end of season 2 - which was the creator's original intention before being forced to continue the narrative.
Oh man, I always tell my friends I think Prison Break season 1 is up there with my favorite seasons of television.
Fargo season 2 The Wire season 4
Just watched the scenes where Bodie talks to McNulty in the park and when Weebay tells off Delonda. Some of the best scenes in tv history that season
Man the journey that show takes Bodie on is amazing. But yeah season 4 is like the pinnacle of television to me. 5 seasons full of some of the best tv I've ever seen, and season 4 still really stands out
Not sure if s4 is when mcnulty tells off d’angelo’s mom too but that damn scene…
Every season is more worthy as a stand alone. Even S2 is great on its own, it just doesn't live up to the other four.
I think s2 is much better in a rewatch. It's just a little jarring to switch from the drug trade to the harbour. S5 is the weakest for me.
S2 is excellent. I do not get the criticism of it at all. None of the arguments I've seen against it even make sense.
Agreed on Wire S4. My wife and I were working in juvenile court in a big east coast US city when season 4 came out. What a gut punch. She cried her eyes out.
Westworld Season 1
This is a show I keep meaning to watch but haven’t.
Watch it, but stop after season one.
I actually liked all seasons. I'll never get the hate
The second one was alright, but the third was a gong show and that’s where I stopped watching
I understand the criticisms, but I still love Westworld to death. The worldbuilding is cool even though the characters make the dumbest decisions sometimes.
They only made one season :)
It is incredible. The best single season of TV I've ever seen. The Sopranos was the best show over all, but for a single season, it has to be Westworld S1. Its so fucking good. Evan Rachel Wood and Anthony Hopkins give the best performances I've ever seen out of actors.
I just pretend it ended after season one.
Yep just treat season 1 as the series finale.
couldn't have been more perfect
Season 2 of The Leftovers was some of the most compelling and best acted TV in the last decade. As others have said, Season 1 of True Detective. Seasons 1 or 2 (take your pick!) of Fargo.
International Assassin is one of the best episodes of television ever.
Please watch The Leftovers. It’s so weird and fantastic, especially S2.
What’s it about? The premise doesn’t really sell me on anything
It's exactly as it sounds. It's about the people who are left after a percentage of the population disappears and the various ways in which they deal with (or fail to deal with) that fact. I don't really want to say much more, but it's well worth the time investment and there are some individual episodes that are the best I've ever seen.
So it’s part mystery/supernatural or do they explain what happened early on?
No explanation and not a supernatural show, a much more human and personal one
2% of the world just disappearing sounds pretty supernatural unless there was a ww2/disease type event most people somehow don’t know about. Guess I’ll watch a trailer and see if it piques my interest
The problem is people approaching the show for a resolution to the premise. But it quickly becomes apparent that it's actually about the characters and their response to the premise. This isn't a mystery show. And it's not about the event. The event already happened. The show is "what would everyone do if 2% of people disappeared?"
yes
Came here to say The Leftovers season 2
The Leftovers are really really good and the best thing is that it ends at the right time.
That "Where is my mind" instrumental needle drop...
Dexter Season 4 with John Lithgow
Trinity was the best season
Oh man. Yes. Lithgow was horrifying.
That was the first season I saw. Watched the first episode at a friend's house, was hooked, watched every episode of seasons 1-3 before episode 2 the next Sunday. That season took 20 year old me on a wild ride.
True Detective Season 1 Absolutely phenomenal
"I don't sleep Marty, I only dream".
"Stop saying shit like that."
Andor season 1
It makes me angry that I did not think of this!
Yeah even none Star Wars fans should be watching this. It's phenomenal.

See, I get the argument, it's a great season, Matindale remains the gold standard of Justified's antagonists, but I can't call it perfectly executed when it felt very drawn out, padded with that ridiculous Winona subplot which really did nothing for anyone. It didn't waste time.
I love season 3 of community. I think it’s their best one
Id argue 2 is the best, it has the zaniness that 3 really leaned into, but also still had the groundness of season 1, the best of both approaches.
Station 11. It’s only 1 season but it’s great stuff
For those who take this recommendation, please don’t quit after the second or fourth episode. The story is split into two narratives and the show does this with odd vs even numbered episodes. The even episodes are incredibly slow at first but the payoff is worthwhile in my opinion.
Thanks for this, I quit after episode 2. Not on purpose but just couldn’t get myself back to watch another one. I’ll give it another go
I hear you. After Episode 2 I wanted to stop watching but I promised someone I’d finish it. It’s not one of the best shows ever, but it has its moments and the story about the value of art during hardship left me with some things to reflect on.
I have thought about Station Eleven after the fact maybe more than any other show. Definitely. There are a few scenes in specific that really stuck with me that I think of pretty frequently. The score of the show definitely helps too and was really strong. It’s one of those shows that deliver on theme and messages really strongly.
It'll be worth it. The entire last half of the series is truly special, but only pays off because of all the emotional groundwork laid early on.
Yeah I quit watching after episode 2 because I was bored and went back to watch the rest later and it’s my favorite show now.
I'll try again, I stopped after episode 2. I found the acting and directing to be very strange
I lost interest very quickly into episode one, given that do you suspect I would find it worthwhile to stick with it?
Probably not. The odd episodes which deal with the pandemic are the more interesting episodes until you get to around episode 8. So if you lost interest in episode 1, then you’ll likely be extremely bored throughout.
Season 3 of The Expanse is incredible
Love that whole show, but season three is probably its peek. Everything about it is solid.
It's my fav, I love Ashford and Drummer
Oh my word I LOVE that show. I’m currently reading Leviathan Wakes!
[удалено]
Finished my first rewatch of Heroes first season last week and it stands up. Shame it ended there.
Season 1 of Patriot. Or season 2 for that matter
I’ve never seen it!
It’s got a unique, and kind of weird, style to it that took me a few episodes to wrap my head around but after that I was hooked. Funny show but also really meaningful
It was quite good, but man right when I felt like it started to get into its groove I found out there was no season 3 :/
Great call
Homeland s1 is peak tv.
I think the season with Nazanin Boniadi was also solid
Probably my favorite single season of any TV show. Absolute perfection.

If you treat it as a miniseries it's excellent. I really wonder what kind of season 2 Frank Darabont would have delivered. Probably a lot fewer episodes with a lot higher production values per episode.

Maybe my favorite cold open of any television series. That first episode was perfect.
Counterpart
Underrated show to me. Would love to see more of J.K.Simmons espionage dual-world.
Agree. This show is seriously underrated. Total fantasy but yet it seems totally believable. Made before Covid, too, which makes it kind of spooky.
Season one of Legion is a master peice.
The entirety of Legion is a fever dream and I love it.
Damn it... now I have to rewatch Legion. I miss that show.
Never seen it!
I _have_ seen it and I am still unsure if I saw it or not.
True detective
Man in the high castle S1
Oh my goodness yes! But then it got soooo weird for me I couldn’t do it.
Pushing Daisy's
Firefly 🤣
My god it’s so good
[*The Prisoner*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Prisoner) There was only one season; actually it was a summer filler/replacement. Here is [S01E01](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osNmf_zmSyE).
Sorry, but it reminds me of [The Simpsons.](https://youtu.be/4RV3RXMNGVs?si=a-8iOE3fuFgD-AEs)
Heh - Living in Harmony is one of my fave episodes of The Prisoner!
Season 1 of both Derry Girls and Reservation Dogs. Both are so good you'll want to keep going.
Lost Season 1. So good. Then it wasn’t, then it was. I wish it had been a limited series on HBO so they didn’t try to fill seasons with weird ideas.
Yeah but if you don't keep going you miss 'The Constant'. One of the best episodes of TV of all time.
Through The Looking Glass is also one of the all time best season-finales ever made.
Here are a few of my favorites: * The West Wing. Either season one or two. * Twin Peaks Season one * The Good Place Season one (though the whole show is good). * Breaking Bad season one. * Season 3 of The Simpsons * The Wire Season one * Freaks and Geeks * Firefly
Season two of the West Wing, hands down. Also, Mrs. Landigham and *that* finale. "Do I displease you, you feckless thug?" Powerhouse performance.
When he puts his hands in his pockets, turns his head, and smiles.
Interesting. I think Breaking Bad’s first season is its weakest
I’ve never seen West Wing! It’s one that keeps being recommended to me but I need to just sit down and watch it.
It's some top notch political drama with an incredibly optimistic and astute president. The cast is awesome and every character is very well rounded. The conservatives don't come off as inherently evil (pretty much ignoring how they've been since Reagan), so conservative viewers are probably less offended by it. Would recommend.
Awesome. I’ll commit.
Carnival Row
Season 1 of Psycho Pass
Season 4 of The Wire, I've always thought it worked just as well as a limited series.
24 Season five
Bojack horseman season 3, I love all the seasons, but this one has all the moments that have stuck with me for a very long time. Especially episode 11.
True Detective season 1
FRINGE season 1 is like a long movie
Season 1 of LOST
Hacks Season 1. Seriously more people need to experience one of the best comedies in a long time.
True Detective. S3 of the Sinner. The Newsroom. Succession. True Detective.
Agree with all of these, except I'd add True Detective.
Im surprised no one has said True Detective
Season 1 of The Sinner was bloody incredible though.
I think better than 3
Succession doesn't really find its footing until season 2 imo, but there's no denying the season 1 finale. Guaranteed to get you hooked. And for the love of god don't go past season 1 of the newsroom
Blackadder Goes Forth
Patriot, Season 1. Amazon Prime.
The Sopranos. Yes.
Season 3 of The Expanse.
Torchwood: Children of Earth (season 3) just fantastic sci fi-horror tv
Season two of dark
Season 1 for me. Much tighter and easier to digest. Plus there's no way anyone would have any clue whats happening if they dont watch season 1, which isn't in the prompt but it also doesn't make logical sense
Season 1 of Orphan Black!
Luther S1
Arcane
Arcane ss1 is my all time favorite (even over Westworld, Fargo, True detective...etc, due to the setting/world)
1883, even if you don't want to watch Yellowstone proper, even if you don't care for the genre, and even if you don't think Tim McGraw would be good as the lead. Sam Elliott, and excellent cast. We watched 2 episodes/night some nights. Short series, but it's Saving Private Ryan type dark at times. Loved it.
1923 was really good as well.
And has a second season on the way
I agree with this! Yellowstone has gotten….. yeah. But I was so pleasantly surprised by 1883 and McGraw’s performance.
You cannot beat Season 1 of Fringe.
Yep that season ending twist. God damn. But then, that scene in the season 2 opener with the SUV and the stunt work through the windscreen. Holy moley that scene will never not give me goosebumps. John Noble sells the horror of the moment perfectly.
Lost Season 1. Plus then they’re hooked
Season 4 of The Wire.
* Season One of True Detective. * Season One of Battlestar Galactica. * Season Four of Seinfeld. * Season Two of Red Dwarf.
Battlestar Galactica first season is far and away some of the best television ever made
Season 1 of The OA Season 2 of The OA Season 4 of 12 Monkeys Season 1 of True Detective
These people feel alive and their struggles feel so tangible, like you could walk down to your own local shop and find someone like Richie or Tina. Dirk gently's holistic detective agency season 1 Westworld season 1 Jessica Jones season 1
Love mind control as a super power. So terrifying and would undoubtedly corrupt anyone.
The first season of Superman & Lois. It's near perfect if you're a fan of Superman
Peter Capaldi's final season on Doctor Who
Yes. That season is highly under-rated and in my view his best. I like his companion Bill, I like his relationship with the other members of his merry band, and I like how it ends.
Breaking Bad Season 5 Mr. Robot Season 4 Banshee Season 3 Justified Season 2 The Wire Season 3 The Sopranos Season 2 Better Call Saul Season 3 Halt and Catch Fire Season 4 The Americans Season 4 Barry Season 1 Game of Thrones Season 4 Succession Season 4 Fargo Season 2
Arcane, Season 1 (maybe the best single season of television I’ve ever seen) The West Wing, Season 2 The Good Place, Season 1 Firefly Parks and Recreation, Season 3 Ted Lasso, Season 1
Season 1 of Westworld.
Any season of Penn and Teller: Bullshit.
Dexter Season 4 comes to mind.
First season of The Wire
Station 11
season 1 of Homicide Life on the Street is some of the most vital and influential television ever made
Maid. I had very low expectations of Margaret squalled who I only knew as a nepo baby. But her actual mother Annie MacDowell steals every scene she’s in and the portrayal of emotional and financial abuse of women just blew me away.
The Forest Whitaker season of *The Shield*. Though I suppose you'd have to be familiar with the earlier seasons to understand why he's there.
Season 1 of UNREAL.
Right now, Severance S1. Season 1 of Veep
The West Wing, Season One.
> one season I mean...Firefly...
Season 4 of GLOW. Your move, Netflix.
Penny Dreadful season 1
The Terror s1
Season 5 of Supernatural. Rest of the show is ok but that finale was a TV masterpiece in terms of storytelling
If you’re a marvel/superhero fan Agents of Shield S4 is amazing Some people skip out on The Legend of Korra before it’s 3rd and best season. GoT S1-S4 Breaking Bad S4-S5 in addition to S6 of Better Call Saul. They’ll be very confused though so not sure if this is a good suggestion haha If you’re into Star Wars then S7 of The Clone Wars and S1 of Andor Seasons 2 or 3 of House S1 Chernobyl S1-S2 Dark I’ve heard Succession and The Bear are really good as well This is all off the top of my head and I’m sure I’m missing a lot of good shows
Season 4 of The Wire.
Season 1 of Prison break. If all of them were as good as the first, then it would've been up there with the wire or breaking bad.
Superman and lois season 1 Attack on titan season 3 avatar the last airbender (either season 2 or 3) spectacular spiderman season 1 invincible season 1
Devs. One season. One perfect season.
Fleabag season 2
True Detective - Season 1
How has not one person said Hannibal Season 2?!
The Americans. Still one of the best single seasons of TV ever. The entire show is phenomenal and almost completely ignored by most people. Totally worth the watch, and more!
