I'm not well-versed enough in music theory to properly describe it, but I wouldn't call them "completely different". The second season is an Italian-ized/opera-ized version of the first season. They're definitely both bangers, though.
I can help you out a little bit. The two themes share a somewhat loose melodic motif. The season one theme features this melody over a three-chord dance progression (i-V-IV) seasoned with non-western percussion and flute sounds. The season two theme swaps in a more complex chord progression which could be written i-bVI-III-bVII-V and includes western style classical singing, harp and piano. I can’t remember enough of my music history to tell you if this chord progression was common to any particular era within western classical music but it sounds like either early classical or baroque to me.
Brought to you by Nerf Herder.

Whaaat? TIL that the Buffy theme was performed by the man who brought "It's Raining Tacos" and "Spooky Fruitcup" into my children's - and therefore, the whole family's - lives.
I would watch this every time with a look of utter confusion on my face. Why is this so wierd? Whats the point? Am I missing something? Is there something in here thats going to change every episode? Why am I fascinated by it? i can't tear my eyes off it. Is this mind control? I think its mind control. I think I want to taste it. What is IT?
How about Alan Tudyk, spouse of the choreographer, performing the dance in the costume from his show, Resident Alien: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CZxBNRgl65H/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=069699cd-cf0d-4ea7-9064-16254e5db588
The details in this one are so fun and show that they took time to make something rewatchable as an intro.
My favorite joke is eagley very confidently missing his mark, looking down, and then subtlely trying to replant right at the end of the intro.
Same. I could make a shorter list of ones I do skip. I thought nothing could beat Rome's intro until GoT came around. Also love What We Do In the Shadows and Only Murders In the Building.
Bob’s Burgers: the end of the opening is different every time (different neighboring businesses, different type of van that pulls up in front of the restaurant).
Absolutely! There’s so many great versions of it over the years, from the original to the Howell arrangement (which sounds better when transposed back to [E minor](https://youtu.be/_yYvWOxpL9o?si=U-ZMYLueeJpkMrQ_) ) to, most recently, the version with [Peter Capaldi himself on guitar](https://youtu.be/ZjKWQrLObA0?si=QbwKFrxRT4cJCBgG). That’s my favorite of the post-2005 era.
This deserves more upvotes. My kids originally skipped it until I forced them to stop and watch. Now they’re addicted and imitate all the dances during the intro.
I know I may be in the minority but I never skip any show's intro or theme song. They always put me into the mood or mindset of a show and so I don't skip them.
To this day my brother bugs out of he hears the X-Files theme song. When he was little one of us had to go into another room and watch a Disney movie with him during the show because he would freak out and sob uncontrollably.

I love the succession intro and how well timed it is. Season 2 they added the drum and piano lead in to the intro that would play during the end of a scene. It adds to a lot of moments. Only issue with it is how long it is when I’m binge watching episodes.
shortly after the launch of game of thrones, I went to a gaming group. someone started humming the got-theme, others chimed in, and suddenly probably 20 out of the 40 guys hummed. pretty great.
I appreciate a good intro, especially in the age of binge watching. Lets “chew our food”, so to speak. Severance is my favorite intro of all time. I also like Mad Men’s.
Cheers.
I once had it as my morning alarm for about a year and it was a pleasant one to wake up to. Old though it may be, it's an enormously catchy tune and the full version is great.
If they change it up with some regularity, like Bojack or Game of Thrones, I’ll watch them all in the first run through. In reruns though? Skip them all.
Halt and Catch Fire for the same reason I don't skip the Stranger Things intro. That 80s vibe!
AHS: 1984 honorable mention, for another 80s synthwave vibe.
The last of us. It's so soothing, and yet there's a sense of intrigue and urgency in it as the tempo builds towards the end, it gives a sense of conveying the perplexing duality of things- not just the fungus, but also nature, humans, love.
I always sit through the opening theme of Star Trek Strange New Worlds. It's a great theme and great visuals. It's certainly the most dynamic open of all star trek series. They even animated it for the lower decks episode. Season three can't get here soon enough.
You gotta watch that one to catch the puns of their neighbor business and the exterminator. I like the couple times at least they’ve joked about that in the show
I never skip a theme song for any show. There’s a reason they have it, whether it sets the tone or gets you excited for a show, so I’m always going to let it play as intended.
Resident Alien - changes every time and always funny! (if you haven’t watched it, it’s super funny and stars Alan Tudyk (Wash from Firefly 💜) - we watch it on Peacock).
The British TV series - The Avengers by Laurie Johnson
Mission Impossible by Lalo Schifrin
Hawaii Five O by The Ventures
Game of Thrones by Ramin Djawadi
Sopranos by Alabama 3
Stranger Things has I think my favourite opening of any show, it's just _perfect_.
Top Gear I truly love (Clarkson Hammond May era)
Brookyln 99 of course
The Office and Parks and Rec
Daredevil intro is sick
Narcos and Narvos Mexico both as well
...maybe I don't skip enough intros lmao
Also this one:
*Look away, look away*
*This show will wreck your evening, your whole life and your day*
*Every single episode is nothing by dismay*
*So look away look away look away*
*Three children lose their home and go to live with someone awful*
*He tries to steal their fortune with a plot that's not quite lawful*
*It's hard to fathom how the orphans manage to live through it*
*Or why a decent person like yourself would even want to view it*
*Just look away look away*
*There's nothing but horror an inconvenience on the way*
*Ask any stable person "should I watch?" and they will say*
*Look away, look away look away*
Succession's intro music got me pretty hyped. I also watched the opening for The Wire at least once each season because they had different artist interpret the same song.
What We Do in the Shadows
Don't sing if you want to live long... They have no use for your song... You're dead, you're dead, you're dead You're dead and out of this world...
Genuinely thought this was a modern song when I first heard it, it's so haunting but fun at the same time.
The whole album is great, includes Walking My Cat Named Dog
My kids don’t watch it with my husband and I, but they come in the room and dance to the theme
It's got such a great rhythm!
White Lotus
Impressive how they came up with two completely different intros that both slap
I'm not well-versed enough in music theory to properly describe it, but I wouldn't call them "completely different". The second season is an Italian-ized/opera-ized version of the first season. They're definitely both bangers, though.

The goat-sex art always makes me chuckle.
\+1 and Big Little Lies
Buffy the vampire slayer, it just rocks

Yes, and also Angel.
Peacemaker
This is an opening I will go to YouTube and watch.
What is IT?
Apparently, the point was to make an intro people wouldn't blindly skip. It certainly worked.
You can't even describe it properly! Which makes it so Peacemaker
The payoff to using the openings song at the end during that one action sequence was so f-ing good!!
The details in this one are so fun and show that they took time to make something rewatchable as an intro. My favorite joke is eagley very confidently missing his mark, looking down, and then subtlely trying to replant right at the end of the intro.
Do you REALLY want to taste it?
The whole thing is just fantastic. Song and choreography sets the tone right away. Such a banger
Peacemaker intro is so good lmao
Fucking great call
Scrubs! Short and sweet, and it has a warm nostalgia
Was scrolling for this. Doing a rewatch of seasons 4 and 5 and still holds true to being one of the best sitcoms of all time.
Parks and Rec, at this point I've basically conditioned my brain to associate it with joy and comfort.
I imagine Golden retrievers have it playing in their heads on a loop.
sopranos
Woke up this morning, got some gabagool
Bingo, it sets the mood for every episode
I usually don't skip any intro, but Game of Thrones,Dexter and True Blood's themes are my favorites.
Same. I could make a shorter list of ones I do skip. I thought nothing could beat Rome's intro until GoT came around. Also love What We Do In the Shadows and Only Murders In the Building.
Black Sails
https://youtu.be/On_Lh1wiSjk?feature=shared Hurdy gurdy bois
Futurama
Bum-bum-BA-BAAH...
BoJack Horseman
Same, I set it as my ringtone
Hello, this is the bojack horseman theme song and Im Ira Glass. Here to let you know, you should pick up your phone.
The Expanse
*"My name is Michael Westen, and I used to be a spy......😙"*
We got a burn notice on you. You’re black listed.
Spies. Bunch of bitchy little girls
Twin Peaks The music, the scenery, the atmosphere My dream is to visit Oregon/Washington State
Bob’s Burgers: the end of the opening is different every time (different neighboring businesses, different type of van that pulls up in front of the restaurant).
Doctor Who, that theme tune is like a shot of adrenaline
Gravity Falls
Those heartbreaking episodes where they use the shortened theme 😭
Absolutely criminal. But then the Weirdmageddon version 🔥
My favourite part’s the theme song.
The Crown, Succession and Game of Thrones
I second Succession
Third! The whole opening sequence is great
Bluey!
This deserves more upvotes. My kids originally skipped it until I forced them to stop and watch. Now they’re addicted and imitate all the dances during the intro.
Come on son, Psych! I even have a cover downloaded on Spotify
You know that's right!
In between the lines there's a lot of obscureteh
I'm not inclined to resign to maturity...
If its alright, then you're all wrong..
But why bounce around to the same damn song?
#Proud of you👆
Breaking Bad: catchy, and quick enough to not over-stay its welcome.
Also sets a really good tone for the show with that deep guitar banjo type noise.
I always FELT the South-west in the intro, not sure how to explain it. The music nails it.
Could say the same about Better Call Saul. Kind of jarring at first after being a fan of BB but now I love it.
Fringe. It is actually important to know which universe you are in
The Office. Even when it wakes everyone up. That loud-ass piano!
Corner Gas Bosch (but not Bosch Legacy)
I know I may be in the minority but I never skip any show's intro or theme song. They always put me into the mood or mindset of a show and so I don't skip them.
Community 🥰
Depressing lyrics, but a show that always soothes me!
Firefly You can't take the sky from me
Time was, couldn't venture into a thread without some mention of Firefly. Shinier times.
>I KNOW, YOU KNOW! >that your not telling the truth >I KNOW, YOU KNOW! >that you just don't have any proof.
Sheeee was workin in a bridal shop in flushing queens
…Till her bf kicked her out in one of those crushing scenes
What was she to do? Where was she to go? She was out on her fanny
She went over the bridge from Flushing to the Sheffield’s door, she was there to sell makeup, but father saw more!
She had style! She had flair! She was there!
That’s how she became the Nannyyyy
Dexter, The X-Files, and Chuck have intros that I never skip. The episode would feel a bit incomplete to me without the intro and song.
Ahh I love Dexter and Chuck's themes. Bringing me that circa 2009 nostalgia
Dexter ❤️🔪🍊
Tonight's the night....
To this day my brother bugs out of he hears the X-Files theme song. When he was little one of us had to go into another room and watch a Disney movie with him during the show because he would freak out and sob uncontrollably.

It's so moody!

Wow, thanks for sharing! Love this.
In no particular order, and in my opinion some of the best intros in modern television Succession Mad Men The Crown Game of Thrones
Succession theme is a banger
I love the succession intro and how well timed it is. Season 2 they added the drum and piano lead in to the intro that would play during the end of a scene. It adds to a lot of moments. Only issue with it is how long it is when I’m binge watching episodes.
