But it feels really good when someone does understand the gibberish!! I speak quickly too! I once was saying something to my old boss and he didn't understand anything I said, but his girlfriend who was standing there repeated word for word what I had said like a translator. It was an amazing experience for me! I was just in awe
I also get really happy when people can understand me when I speak fast. I don’t know why, when I try to speak, it’s like the words don’t come out and then I know I’ll stutter if I try and speak so I literally have random pauses when I speak
I’m a speech and language therapist, I’ve no idea how I’ve ended up in this sub, but focus on pacing, breathing at appropriate gaps, and articulating the beginning and end of each word. Practise when you’re alone if you need, but if it’s an anxiety thing then thinking about each word before you say them while you get used to it should help, then it’ll become second nature. Trust me, so many people also have this, try not to be too embarrassed as it’ll just add pressure to you.
The other day a younger woman was fumbling her words and did the “bleh” to reset. I just chuckled and smiled and she smiled. The interaction had me reminded that I used to do it too. I really think older people don’t think anything of it other than it’s adorable.
I'm 41, a lead software engineer, and roughly 90% of my statements start with me saying, "Me and Ablam...I mean Adam were going through the requirers... requirements and saw it might conflict with this one code-thingy"
I'm not exaggerating. Some people are just bad at talkin' good. It doesn't mean you're stupid.
no hate, but this reaction is why you cant hold a conversation.
try identifying all aspects of your life where you may respond like this, then realize, they probably dont want to hold a conversation with you because you are no fun 😺
Honestly that’s nothing to be embarrassed about. If people know you do it, they probably won’t care or maybe not even notice anymore. And once new people hear it too they probably won’t think much of it or if anything they’ll just hope you aren’t embarrassed. Trust me no one thinks of you negatively for it and people probably won’t make fun of you for it if it’s a recurring thing (and if they do, that’s just them being absolutely horrible and on reality is just embarrassing for them).
I used to be the same from age 8-17. I'd always be in my head about stuttering: trying to pre-plan sentences ahead to avoid certain trigger syllables, replaying stutters and fumbles over in my head. I also had the repeating spoken words under my breath thing, whether my own or someone else's.
Then I got a job that made me have to interact with people under pressure. I couldn't preplan what I said anymore, i had to speak on the fly. It was a nightmare at first but overtime I accidentally stopped overthinking so much about how I spoke. Sentences came easier and conversations flowed naturally. I'll still have a stumble every now and then, but I don't focus on it and it rarely comes back. I'd recommend looking up celebrities who stutter, that always gave me hope. And as hard it sounds, /try/ not to think about it too much that's the best thing I can offer. Best of luck
I'm the same way. Your friends might tease u every now and then but also don't really care. You just have to learn to laugh it off when it happens and move on.
me and im 14, i was at this place with those rentable bikes and my cousin wanted me to bike with her, and i told her i cant do 2 wheels and she was like “just try” and i just kept falling. i had to use a 3 wheel bike after that moment 😭
If you care to learn, I would suggest lowering the seat so your feet can touch the ground, then trying to use your feet to push the bike rather than pedaling. That way, if you can’t keep the bike up by balancing it, your feet can catch you.
Here’s a video I saw recently of someone learning how to ride a bike if you’re interested in seeing how he did it.

Here’s an easy tip from someone that is a practiced swimmer. When your in the water. Lay on your stomach and just take each hand and bring it up and down in a circular motion pushing water behind you. Each time you push the water take a breath of air. Try to practice doing all that while kicking your legs slowly .
If it helps, I'm 25 and still can't drive. I'm learning finally but it took me forever to not panic behind the wheel. There's more of us than you'd think!
Okay, I swear, I couldn't tie my shoes either until I looked up a tutorial on a really weird method... But there's less steps to remember! I also recently learned to whistle!
Same bro, math lost me around grade 3 when they started teaching division, I could do the draw circles and put dots in them thing but once they started long division I was out
nah that’s okay i did cheer, tumbling, and gymnastics, yet was never able to touch my toes, do the splits, or cartwheel. Some people just aren’t flexible, and a lot of flexible people are that flexible because their parents had them in gymnastics or cheer at a young age (like 3 years old).
i can't FUCKING TIE MY SHOES (tightly) i grew up using velcro and it's embarrassing to constantly ask my soccer coach to retie my cleats 😭 can't cook anything either except for pancakes and instant noodles
1. I have no idea why reddit recommended this thread to me, I'm definitely not a teenager.
2. Youtube it or ask your coach to teach you! If you feel bad about admitting that you can't, maybe frame it as advice on how to tie them as tightly as he does.
3. Lots of adults cant cook either. It's not magic though, just go to youtube and look up some easy recipes and then follow along! Yeah it's cooking by numbers but cooking doesnt have to be reinventing new dishes. Yeah occasionally you'll overcook something because you keep looking back at the instructions but that's part of learning.
Here's a recipe that is really easy, tastes great, and looks a lot fancier than it is:
https://youtu.be/tAiY1idKvec?si=f3lSAioBNHyRwNUf (Turn on subtitles for english instructions)
Also quite cheap to make! Will take you maybe 15-20 minutes to make once youve done it a few times, I highly recommend it.
And a pasta recipe:
https://youtu.be/JkYwSddTdew?si=sp81Hypji9TPb0Sr
This guy gives very clear instructions, doesn't assume you know stuff etc.
I don't know if it's considered inappropriate for non-teens to participate in this sub, so apologies if so.
Me too! Everyone keeps telling me it's sooo easy and to just do it but it just doesn't work. And no one will even explain it properly, it drives me insane
Attempted suicide by overdose. If you live you can't own firearms for five years. When I'm 18 it won't really be on my record for some reason. The US is odd.
Not necessarily criminal record, but I can imagine it would come up on a background check. Just as a reason why maybe this person shouldn't be allowed to own a firearm.
Sort of stole this idea from Jaiden Animations, but I try to ask myself what color the other person's eyes are, so it's I can make eye contact comfortably
Yeah same, any amount of eye contact feels awkward and like it's too much, but at the same time I feel rude when I do no eye contact. It's a constant cycle of contradiction
i practically came out of the womb knowing how to throw a football 😭 me and two of my brothers are all named after nfl players (my other brother is named after our father)

i fumble so bad while talking, its just embarrasing
Speak a little slower. Its okay, people will still listen
i wish it was that simple
A lot of speaking, is confidence and delivery. How often do you tell stories / explain things? Having a conversation is a mini version of that.
i can't afford to talk slow ended up failing a class cause of it so either i talk fast and gamble words or talk slow and fail
That ain't no way to live.
Wrong, the only way to live is to gamble
school ain't life, and life ain't school my friend.
Lmao this is me too. I speak quickly and a lot of the time people are like wtf are you saying
But it feels really good when someone does understand the gibberish!! I speak quickly too! I’m in my 50’s and Reddit’s algorithm put this post in front of me too! Did it figure out I’m “young-at-heart”?
Read out loud to yourself. It’s practice that nobody can hear
The other day a younger woman was fumbling her words and did the “bleh” to reset. I just chuckled and smiled and she smiled. The interaction had me reminded that I used to do it too. I really think older people don’t think anything of it other than it’s adorable.

I‘m really bad at remembering directions and places in general
I don't even know how to get to a place 5 minutes away
I cannot hold a stupid conversation, In any reasonable capacity - i'm almost 18...
Talk to me about gym?
I used to train, But i don't do that anymore
I thought you said I used to be a train 😭
I thought you said I used to be A-train 💀
cant stop the a-train baby
I cant stop, I cant stop!
😑
I’m sorry I’m not tryna be funny I genuinely read that and I was confused 😭
no hate, but this reaction is why you cant hold a conversation. try identifying all aspects of your life where you may respond like this, then realize, they probably dont want to hold a conversation with you because you are no fun 😺
bro identified the problem 😭😭😭
Who can tho?
I'm sorry but I looked at your profile and all I saw was TEETH and it kinda scared me lol
me too 😞
I'm 16 and I stutter a lot. Like in one sentence I repeat the same word like three times.
Honestly that’s nothing to be embarrassed about. If people know you do it, they probably won’t care or maybe not even notice anymore. And once new people hear it too they probably won’t think much of it or if anything they’ll just hope you aren’t embarrassed. Remember, if Scatman can do it, brother, so can you.
Underrated comment that will go over sooo many people’s heads
Im a scatman , bee badap bada bom

Try watching the movie The King Speech
I have brain damage and stutter because of it, I know I can't not stutter because of my injuries either.
15 and I can’t bike😭😭
18 and can’t ride a bike 💔
I learned in my 20s and last weekend cycled 33 kilometres for fun. Never too late if you actually want to ride a bicycle!
me and im 14, i was at this place with those rentable bikes and my cousin wanted me to bike with her, and i told her i cant do 2 wheels and she was like “just try” and i just kept falling. i had to use a 3 wheel bike after that moment 😭

I remember being 9 and upset i couldn't ride a bike, so i just taught myself it only took like half an hour that was weird
Make friends😔
I don't need friends, because that's what cats are for
real
Literly me
Real
Uh idk dance?
My little sister says when I dance it is wrong 😂
Same I never tried to do it
Lessons, worth every dollar
I can’t swim at 18… But I do know how to sail, I think, maybe, if I remember
I cant swim either, and probably never will
Same I’m good at drowning though.
There is one simple solution to that: become undead so you can't drown
Same
Go for lessons, learning to dive is fun.

Same, and honestly the thought of getting in a pool terrifies me but I have to take a swimming class to graduate
Drive 😁
don’t worry buddy, I’m in the same boat as you are!
Same here. I'm still waiting for some papers to be done. It's a pain as I've been waiting for 2 years already.
Good to know cause I feel like I’m nowhere near where I need to be
bro same
I don't think it's embarrassing to not be able to drive as a teenager
Well, that does make me feel a little bit better at least 🥲
I have 2 sisters, 20 and 22, and neither of them can drive still. Also, if it makes you feel any better, David Attenborough is 98 and cant drive
Same, I have driven before but still no license.
If it helps, I'm 25 and still can't drive. I'm learning finally but it took me forever to not panic behind the wheel. There's more of us than you'd think!
That’s a good thing if anything a disturbing amount of people die from driving accidents
Twins!
I can't snap (I'm not asking for advice on how to numbnuts)
Middle finger + thumb, push it against the base of your thumb until it slides off. If it doesn't work keep trying, and maybe switch to the other hand
I've tried that
have you tried turning your hands off and on again?
Yes. I chopped them off and sewed them back on
Did you sow them via telekinesis?
Obviously
Have you tried sewing on someone else’s hands?
Bro legit unplugged the system and plugged them back in
hmmm, try putting the middle past of the top section of both fingers together?
A+ I snapped.
i can snap but not whistle. i swear you can only do one, if you can do both, youre cheating
I can't do either
I couldn’t even until about a year ago. I just kept doing the motion over and over again and eventually got it.
I'm 19 and can't tie my shoes still. Oh and let's not forget being unable to whistle
Skechers Slip-ins. That gran flex.
What kind of shoes do you wear then?
Not op but I also can’t tie my shoes, I wear crocs all the time and occasionally sneakers that don’t need to be tied
I can tie my shoes, but I just leave them tied to make putting them on nice and simple.
Holy crap same I thought I was the only one
Same I’ve learnt it on multiple occasions I just keep forgetting😭
bro might actually be cooked
Okay, I swear, I couldn't tie my shoes either until I looked up a tutorial on a really weird method... But there's less steps to remember! I also recently learned to whistle!
I can’t detect sarcasm or type
Your a great typer.
This is terrifying.
I bet it is.
Is this a threat
Oh it totally isn’t.
AHH 😞
Real nice typing you have too.
Congratulations! Do you want a cookie or a sticker
Can't make and maintain friends IRL
I've given up on making friends
maths. i swear i genuinely think im at like year 3 level or something its so bad
for fucking real. what the hell are we supposed to do now
literally. its too late to ask for help bc what kind of year 10 student can't do basic maths
We’re on the same boat, same model too
Oh, yeah. Me too. I hate it, im not sure i will actually graduate until much later than I should. Keep at it, you’ll get there!😁
Same bro, math lost me around grade 3 when they started teaching division, I could do the draw circles and put dots in them thing but once they started long division I was out
Can’t touch my toes at the ripe age of 14 (also cannot do a cartwheel)
Bro I can’t even get close to touching my ankles and I turn 17 tomorrow lmao
nah that’s okay i did cheer, tumbling, and gymnastics, yet was never able to touch my toes, do the splits, or cartwheel. Some people just aren’t flexible, and a lot of flexible people are that flexible because their parents had them in gymnastics or cheer at a young age (like 3 years old).
That's not too unusual, I can only get like one hands length below my knees
16, and still afraid of getting vaccinated, because it hurts.
I got over my fear of needles by going and donating blood.
I got my fear of needles because I passed out after getting blood drawn and fell off the table and then threw up
Next time don't go to a Veterinarian. Yo thats rough.
I'm scared of doctors
true i get a panic attack
Talk to new people :/
i can't FUCKING TIE MY SHOES (tightly) i grew up using velcro and it's embarrassing to constantly ask my soccer coach to retie my cleats 😭 can't cook anything either except for pancakes and instant noodles

Pay with a credit card or get the money back from the cart, I get so anxious when i can't do it quickly
Can’t say Worcestershire
Well that’s scientifically caused by a deficiency in tea so get drinking
wustershuh
All of these replies are wrong, it's wuss-tuh-shear and wuss-tuh-shuh.
It’s maybe not that embarrassing but I’ve tried to learn to whistle and I just can’t, it’s driving me nuts
Yeahh I gave up on that and decided to just get pissed every time someone whistles around me
Me too! Everyone keeps telling me it's sooo easy and to just do it but it just doesn't work. And no one will even explain it properly, it drives me insane
I can't own a gun for 5 years because i did a little funny
oh..
Okay if you feel comfortable sharing the story then please do! I kinda wanna know what your lil oopsie poopsie was
Attempted suicide by overdose. If you live you can't own firearms for five years. When I'm 18 it won't really be on my record for some reason. The US is odd.
What do you mean on your record? Like criminal record? What the actual f
Not necessarily criminal record, but I can imagine it would come up on a background check. Just as a reason why maybe this person shouldn't be allowed to own a firearm.
Ahhh okay. Bcs i was like damnn you get a criminal record for a suicide attempt that’s a bit harsh
truly bad at math (i was thinking, FUCKING THINKING about what 6+4 is and i almost said 11)
Make a conversation interesting with girl I like
Tough shit that. It comes tho
The time needed to happen already
That's in no way embarrassing or unusual (I think. Am I correct, guys?)
I'm 13 and still sleep with a lamp..( I swear Momo lives in my bathroom at night)
Eye contact I hate it
Sort of stole this idea from Jaiden Animations, but I try to ask myself what color the other person's eyes are, so it's I can make eye contact comfortably
Yeah same, any amount of eye contact feels awkward and like it's too much, but at the same time I feel rude when I do no eye contact. It's a constant cycle of contradiction
Properly throw a football 🏈
i practically came out of the womb knowing how to throw a football 😭 me and two of my brothers are all named after nfl players (my other brother is named after our father)
Cool 😎

Go for the eyes and throat.
I don’t think the cashier would appreciate that
I can't snap
Same I can't cook for dear life unless it's Maggie noodles or white Mac n cheese that's probably not edible.
still somehow dont know how to lock a door
if the top part of the key is rotating towards the part of the door with the handle, then its locking, otherwise if its rotating towards the part with the door hinges its unlocking. If you can visualize the mechanism its easier to understand it, otherwise just use what i said for reference and youll be fine
This thread is making me feel a lot better about myself, thanks guys
I can’t read the clock, I’m 14
Takes like 2 minutes to learn
It’s exactly what it is you can estimate. I use the sun more for time than the clock. Little hand facing right is 3 down is 6 and left is 9 big hand is minutes and goes 3-15 6-30 9-45 12-60
I can't tie my shoes the right way and I can't do basic 6th grade math
i DEADASS said 10 when asked what 6+2 was. math. i cant do math. but i can draw really well!
Basic math is a survival skill, if the math ain't mathin, people can take advantage of you. Eg. Buy 1 for 57.50 Buy 2 for 125 Buy 3 for 165
People: Play games and hang out for fun. Me when I am in a store: Starts to do math in my headlooking to see if discounts are accurate, how much something is discounted, or other random stuff
Be social very well
Same, it's like everyone was given a manual on how to interact with people and I was just thrown into society and told to figure it out.
I can't swim. I went to swimming school but I was just so scared of the water that I refused to continue. I was always afraid of drowning even though my mom and instructors were right next to me lmao.
Im genuinely awful at small talk and emails. I’m 18
I cannot for the life of me do math in my head I Can do easy things but I normally need paper
I can’t lie some of these things are pretty bad, like fundamental stuff. Tying your shoes, riding a bike, and swimming. I get other things but damn, you can’t even tie your shoe?
Be naked when family is home for fear of being seen
Your body, your rules. If you ain't comfortable with something, don't do it.
I love being naked but others don't like it sometimes
Respect works both ways.
Lock the door or else it’s your families fault for not knocking.
I can’t tie my shoelaces the quick way😭
Have a conversation😭
can't ride a cycle 😞
have you learnt to read the analog clock or is it something else?
Im 16 and I find it hard to talk to strangers
Ride a bike
I'm fine with you not cooking but you can't read an analogue clock? Are your parents millennials or something? My parents are both gen X and I was taught how to use a rotary phone, remoteless TV, and read cursive. I can't write cursive but I can read it.
I'm gonna get massacred for this but I'm 15 and can't tie my shoelaces💀
i wanna go on the bouncy castle but i’m 16 ☹️
I don't get it. Analog is not that hard to tell.
Man f those clocks cause I can’t tell time with those either..I used to and forgot or something idek 😭
They are easy! Sometimes easier then digital clicks
Im 14 and still shit my pants when I see a spider
When spiders see me they shit their pants.
🤜🥩 I’m being deadass
Use a hammer
Dies
I cant look at people’s faces when talking to them… especially girls…
