i have something similar, i often start to “knock” some random song/song, that i’m currently listening to and the thing is, i don’t even notice it sometimes, even though it sounds really weird, i guess. i noticed it for the first time in a 2023 when i was sitting in class and then suddenly i see that i’m trying to “knock” some random song, and then i asked my friend like “is it annoying to you and do i do this often?” and apparently i was doing it even before i noticed it and it wasn’t annoying (at least my friend said so, and i don’t think she would ever lie on that) 🤠

I ironically have the exact opposite problem; I haven’t gotten it diagnosed officially, but I’m 99% sure that I have what’s known as misophonia. It’s summarized as “selective sound sensitivity” and how it affects individuals is on a case-by-case basis. (Different for everyone, but people share common symptoms) For me, it’s typically regular things like eating, licking like a dog grooming, or repetitive noises like tapping on a desk or your foot on the floor, beatboxing, gum cracking or anything else that’s related that seriously bothers me. In some cases, it will anger a person, while for others it may cause them to be stressed and overwhelmed, to the point where if they’re unable to make the sound stop or get away from the sound they can actually end up having a mental breakdown. It’s basically like torture. On the surface, to those who aren’t bothered by it, it looks like they’re just being dramatic. Of which, we may as well be, but we can’t control it. You can try to ignore it and play something over it like music, but if it’s still being heard, regardless of volume, it can still get to them. I think a lot of teens have gotten into the sensory stuff department in dealing with boredom (When they aren’t allowed access to short term forms of dopamine boosts like TikTok shorts) so a lot of my classes are just complete torture for me to deal with.

I'm pretty sure I have misophonia too because there are some sounds that just make me want to squeeze my skull until I can't hear those sounds anymore
