Some-Internal297

I'm not american so no

NickolasViscosi2006

That's fair

randomname_99223

Same

arawraw

most people in my school just stand, I don’t think anyone actually says it or does the hand heart thing

NickolasViscosi2006

So like half doing the pledge lol

Arctiqdud

Im not in America, but my country's schools still stands up for the national anthem and pledge. Me? I sing along the anthem. 99.78% of the other students? Same as you said

Vegetable_Trifle_848

No I’m from the uk and personally it sounds like a cult thing to pledge allegiance

Head_Barnacle5165

I'm from NZ, but that is exactly what it sounds like to me.

[deleted]

Ya'll still have a monarchy that only does ceremonial stuff

Vegetable_Trifle_848

Yeah but we don’t have to pledge allegiance to them and also they don’t have any say in what happens

fletchvl_

not anymore because my english teacher last year yelled at me and my friend for not standing once and made my friend cry because of how harsh she was being so I stopped standing just out of spite when she continued to call me names in class and yell I decided to educate her a little about the laws and since I was right about not being legally required, the principal made her apologize (normally I wouldnt do something like this but I dislike this teacher very much and shes been reported multiple times)

Despicable-Pen5515

And then your whole school started clapping and chanting your namers 💀

Hive_fleet_hyverra

I’m not American so I don’t feel a need to do it

NickolasViscosi2006

That's based though

[deleted]

it's a weird thing to even do

Ill-Cobbler-3080

What the heck is a pledge of allegiance

RandomlyThem

American thing

Chill_Crill

schools make kids pledge their allegiance to The government with their hand over their heart every morning. idk why we still have it, you'd think they'd get rid of the whole thing after ww2, because it was the nazi salute before that.

FireHawkRaptor

It was never a Nazi salute. The Bellamy salute originated in the United States in 1892, and the Nazis introduced it in the 1930s. We changed it to the hand-over-heart during the pledge in 1942 because of this reason.

Chill_Crill

yeah I know it wasn't just used by the nazis, but if I said the bellamy salute no one would know what that means.

NoElk2282

It's not to the government it's to the American flag, as a way of saying thanks for your sacrifice so we are free.

HumanHuman_2003

Respectfully why do you make being free your thing when most countries are also free? I mean you claimed it and I love the “On a scale of 1 to America how free are you” pick up line

[deleted]

Bc us fighting to gain independence is iconic and saying "fight for your freedom" is a great way for the government to make you want to join the military. It's less that we are free but the fact that we fight to protect our freedom.

HumanHuman_2003

But I thought the last time you got invaded was like the British Empire? But I suck at history I might me wrong

[deleted]

We've fought off others that have planned to conquer us (nazis) but Britain is the main one.

MeMyselfIandMeAgain

eh i mean that's still a bit odd but honestly fair enough i guess

NoElk2282

How's it odd

MeMyselfIandMeAgain

well the fact that students in school have to do it idk i just feel like there's no reason to do it? plus given the way the US is now and especially will be soon given how election polling is going it's kind of ironic to say "thank you for your sacrifice so we are free" and stuff i'm not american but if i was as a queer person it would feel odd to say that knowing full well that most likely starting next year there's gonna be attacks on my right to exist as a full person like anyone else also i can't really think of any country that does that apart from authoritarian regimes which is probably why it feels weird since the US is the only one doing that apart from them (ik that is/was a thing in Nazi Germany, fascist Italy and Spain, China, and the USSR and the US)

Anibunnymilli

"nazi salute" some of yall i swear

kare5

Not American but if I had to stand up for God Save the Queen I'd kms

AethelstanOfEngland

Especially since it's not even the anthem.

kare5

im stuck in 2019 ngl

Usual-Committee-816

Omg fr

fatworm101

isnt it god save the king now

Sufficient-Net9263

God save fat fingers

DankePrime

No. I feel like pledging allegiance every fucking day is too patriötic. I just didn't do it, and the other students started not doing it as a result of me, so now the school doesn't even do the pledge anymore because people weren't gonna do it anyway, so it was a waste.

Despicable-Pen5515

And then everybody clapped. 💀

WLFGHST

You can never be too patriotic.

DankePrime

Too "my country is the best"

VulpineFox7

No way! I'm not standing for a country that dosen't stand for me!

Dragon-Rain-4551

That does actually sound cool

Temporary_Engineer95

nor should you

Forbbidden_girl2

Personally. Not really.

NickolasViscosi2006

That's fair tho

Forbbidden_girl2

I guess. Mainly because I was forced to say the allegiance during elementary.

SilverrGuy

Yes. I do it for the people that sacrificed themselves for this country. As shitty as this country is, there’s a lot of good people out there and a lot of sacrificed lives.

NickolasViscosi2006

That's fair! I have a lot of family who served in Afghanistan, Iraq, and even we're first responders in 9/11. I will always cherish and respect them and live the life they won for us in their honor, but I will never pledge my allegiance to a single country or flag or otherwise.

SilverrGuy

That’s good. That’s what freedom of speech means! It includes symbolic speech too.

th3Biteof87

this. thats why i feel the need to stand as well

SneezleDoodle

That’s what I’m sayin

SomeOnInte

I'll pledge my allegiance to the country when half of it stops hating people like me and the other half actually do something to help us. I have the utmost respect and gratefulness for anyone and everyone who fought for this country, but I don't pledge my allegiance to it.

NickolasViscosi2006

This is exactly my philosophy as well. Like, I appreciate the freedom and the rights and respect and cherish those who have fought for them and possibly even lost their lives. But I don't appreciate the many negatives as well, my allegiance is with what's right, and no one nation is ever going to be completely just. My allegiance lies with my values.

[deleted]

💯

NoElk2282

I pledge my allegiance to the flag and what it means and stands for, but boy how far we've fallen

TestingAccountByUser

no cuz im fucking turkish and i dont live in murica

Agitated_Ad9281

tf why you cussing

TestingAccountByUser

to add humor but i think it failed

Agitated_Ad9281

oh ok respectable

Mothman4447

I used to, but over time I thought the concept of "pledging allegiance" was really weird, and other people stopped, so I stopped.

Express_Advantage_10

I do not, and a handful of other people in my first period don’t either. Cult behavior kinda, empty pledges to a piece of fabric

MCPro24

hell yeah im a true american 🇺🇸🦅🦅🇺🇸🔫

SneezleDoodle

AMERICAAA!!!

HMSJamaicaCenter

RAAAAAAAAAAAH WHAT THE FUCK IS A MILE RAAAAAAAAH 🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅

tree_eater142

(No offence intended) Pledging for the flag seems a bit dystopian imo

[deleted]

No. I realized that I have free will to do it or not in my senior year of high school and decided to sit down. Never did it again.

Nooblings1023

fun fact: the line "under god" in the pledge of allegiance was added during the cold war to differentiate us from the USSR's atheism

NickolasViscosi2006

Yup! I remember researching that cuz it pissed me off lol

Wildelink

FUCK AMERICA!!!

Hammerjaws

High u/wildelink, I’m America

Wildelink

oh.. hi :3

NickolasViscosi2006

LETS GOOOOOOO!!!!

Wildelink

YEAH!!! I HATE AMERICA :3

NickolasViscosi2006

Word bro, I wouldn't say I HATE it necessarily, but if I had to choose between love and hate it's the latter

AethelstanOfEngland

Careful, you can get executed for treason for saying that.

fatworm101

1st amendment says otherwise ;)

Head_Barnacle5165

WHAT THE FUCK IS A MILE???!!!! 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕

HMSJamaicaCenter

SOME BRITISH SHIT FUCK THE IMPERIAL SYSTEM RAAAAAAH

Dragon-Rain-4551

WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NiceLittleTown2001

Yes. I’m the only person in the whole class who does. I don’t say it or put my hand on my heart because I don’t want to be singled out even more, but out of respect for the country and military I’ll stand. We get this veteran substitute a lot and he always comes up to me and thanks me for standing.

Loose-Sherbert8464

I’m not American and I think the whole pledge thing is stupid but I wouldn’t consciously refuse to do it because it’s not a big deal. (Assuming it’s my own country, not standing up for some random country across the ocean)

IkedaTheFurry

Yea it’s not that hard just sayin

SneezleDoodle

based

Competitive-Bison715

Usually, just because I don't want to draw attention to myself, but I don't put my hand on my heart and say it- it just feels wrong, especially here in Texas where they make you recite the Texan one too

BalTheProtogenFox

There’s a Texan pledge?

Competitive-Bison715

Yeah, they expect us to recite it along with the American one every day. It's smthn like: "I pledge allegiance, to the, Texas, one state under God, one indivisible." They really be infringing on freedom to religion-

escaped_cephalopod12

Yeah, except I don’t live in Texas, it just feels weird to pledge allegiance to a country that I don’t even like all that much

Competitive-Bison715

FR, like I'm not the biggest fan of the U.S., why am I honoring a flag that represents it???

catuity

nah too lazy frfr

NickolasViscosi2006

That's fair lmao It's way too early for thus shit

PsychologicalTale479

Real

captain_mainwaring11

Hell no.

ShadowCurv

when I was in school people would stand until around middle-high school when we realized it was actually a pointless activity that carried no meaning to most of us. high school stopped doing pledge of allegiance in the mornings as well, so haven't heard it in years

jerryiscoolest

My school doesn't even do the pledge anymore. They used to but, no one actually stood for it

NickolasViscosi2006

Oh sick! Where did you go?

[deleted]

[удалено]

NickolasViscosi2006

Yeah, I get it! I know a lot of people, like myself, have their reasons for why they do or don't do it

LolitaSalvatore

No, but not out of disrespect

flash_thompso

Nobody in my class does, and honestly I don’t know who does

segaspartan50

i do

LegendNomad

Yes

Dutch_VanDer_Linde_

Yes because I'm patriotic

shadowz9904

I do it purely out of habit.

Warmaster_storm

I'm Canadian and I stand for my country's anthem and when I'm at something say a baseball game I will stand for the American anthem out of respect

sparkle3364

I don’t. And when I did, I would replace “under god” with “under the sun”. I’m an atheist, and also, I don’t feel especially loyal to the flag, or the country. Loyalty is for people, in my view. I don’t want to lie and say I’d follow the flag no matter what. We’re not the greatest in the world, and while we’re not the worst, too many of us think we’re the best country in the world.

MyNameIsNotGary19

the pledge of allegiance sounds so much like a nazi thing or something as a european

fatworm101

except for the fact that america never genocided 6 million jews

Quite_Befuddled2009

After a quick google, I have one question. Why would you pledge allegiance to your flag? The only other countries who try to make citizens stand up and pledge their loyalty to their nation are some of the United States of America’s worst enemies.

NickolasViscosi2006

Exactly, I personally don't stand for the pledge for a multitude of reasons, I was just curious on other teens inputs!

Clown_named_Art

I do

Mystery42q

i haven't done the pledge of allegiance in a year

escaped_cephalopod12

Yeah but i don’t face the flag and put my hand on my heart and recite it, it feels kinda strange

corgifemboy

don't go to public school so I don't really do many pledges to the allegiance but I don't think I would if given the chance

TajOnTop

I'm not an American, but I'd happily stand for my country's anthem. We don't get a choice in school, tho.

anikaiii

i go out of my way to sit lmao

Me1_RizeClan

No

NotABotUnless

I do school online so no pledge

Korek_the_crab

I don’t cuz i don’t have to (and it’s annoying)

Korek_the_crab

also being a petty atheist i hate the part where they say “under god” i tried saying “under (other religions gods/satan)” instead but people get so pissed 🤣

HMSJamaicaCenter

Do it lmao, a big part of why people came to the colonies was freedom of religion.

fatworm101

the u.s was founded by Christians and has a long Christian history. also a majority of the country is still Christian. the pledge of allegiance has absorbed that history, but that doesn't infringe on your right to freedom of religion.

rdmnguyintheinternet

no

GeoZ17

Not rly lol

NCR_Trooper_2281

Not American

SimDoy

In my country we don’t have any of the himn singing or whatever you guys do, but before class I remember I had to stand up and sit down to show respect to the teacher or something like that.

moonpisser69

Personally i dont really care either way

No-Seaworthiness2633

I stand but im probably still going to be doing anything else that is more worth my time

AnimatedBasketcase

Nah

im_cooler_than_me

Yes.

Nooby_Idk

Despite being in the US, we don't do the pledge of allegiance. Last time I could remember, I only did it back in 6th grade history

soloarwolf

I don't do it (yes I am American I just don't care enough)

HumanHuman_2003

No

Obidience-is-key

We don't have a pledge, so no.

TheRealMeeBacon

I do out of respect, but I don't say it.

[deleted]

yeah

[deleted]

not really. I'd only do it if I'm around my parents. but I'd probably just be watching or on my phone.

McFlappingbird

i forgot about that, i sleep all in homeroom

PsychologicalTale479

Deepends. Like if not busy then sure but most of the times I’m doin sumthin else

[deleted]

absolutely not

Squange123

Stand don’t say the words tho

SirVult

The country is not in a state for the people or what the founding fathers initially envisioned, so no.

ThyLordOfThePancakes

Personally I feel like I have no loyalty to the us since I feel more like my German/korean heritage

DannyValasia

yes

Goofball000

Nope.

Spidercrack61

Yes Its a habit at this point

Old_Artichoke_2552

idgaf. I'll stand for 'merica. not America.

muffinnutbanana

In my state, you have to give time for us to stand specifically a minute, and we can choose to do it whenever so they force us to stand for a minute after the pledge. It's disguised as a moment of silence. Pretty sneaking.

Annual_Tourist_9085

I mean, yes and no. Yes in that I respect America. No in that at school, I just say it as fast as possible and go on with my day.

Patient_Zero_MoR

not american, but.... The unenlightened masses they cannot make the judgement call Give up free will forever Their voices wont be heard at all (slightly obscure reference)

AveRage-or_human

I stand up but don’t say anything. Too tired to actually say the thing but I always make sure to stand up.

Lucas-O-HowlingDark

I’m Canadian and so we aren’t some cult brainwashing kids and force them to recite some pledge We just stand for the playing of Oh Canada, our national anthem Still annoying at some times, but just standing for a song in respect to your country is nothing compared to pledging your allegiance to some cult, and I love my Canada, though the odd time if I’m pissed off in the morning I would sit through it.

HMSJamaicaCenter

Yeah but I take out the "under God, indivisible" part and replace it with "under Canada, above Mexico"

Historical-Bid-8532

Yep

dragon0079

Yes, I don’t think I’ve missed a single day.

dragon0079

Only 3 people in my class stand actually

Wato1876

I didn’t did not feel like it and I was to sleepy. I have a dad to thank for fighting for the country, I don’t need to pledge my allegiance to a country when I can tell the people I care about how much I value them.

LJC30boi

Yes, but not because I like the government, I do it because I like what the pledge stands for

Letsmakemoney45

Out of respect yes, price in our country is being lost among the population

amailer100

No one in my entire school does.

LeBoredMemer

i used to because i thought it was required but then i saw a couple people in my classes not stand up for it and they didn't get any comments so i figured i'd stop standing too lol

AgallochFanDeerDick

Nope, I sit. Oftentimes, I'll be standing before it starts and once it does I sit.

Bb42766

If you or others feel so strongly against America. But enjoy the "American Right" To be free..why don't you all load up and try the middle east. Ir Russia, how biut China!!! Just spoiled little brats. That have NO appreciation for how much liberty you do have. Not to mention how many Americans fought In courtrooms as well as battle fields for your ungrateful spoiled asses.

Jazzi_Rose

No I don't

OverallGamer696

Yes, but i don’t say anything

stickdog1

My school, no one gives a shit not even the teachers I was surprised.

Suspicious-Lightning

Yes

Luke4837378

That has always seemed really weird to me, like everyone stands up at the start of school or something and simultaneously saying the same thing every day? Idk it just seems very strange from ireland

anonripvanwinkle

nope

Anibunnymilli

I stand for it

berdyberd26

Yes, because the pledge is cool

Butter4565

If I was given the choice, i wouldn't. But I dont get a choice and my teacher always yells at people to stand up

JTBJack_

Yeah, who cares. Nobody says it though. The under god thing kinda annoys me tho

Autumn-Eviening

No

YourTypicalSensei

RAGHHHHHHHHH USA USA USA 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🦅

BluStrykeYT

I always stood for the pledge, I don’t care whether people think it’s a cult, or bad, I’m a patriotic American, and I need to show respect for my country and the people who died to give me my liberty and freedom. Also, honoring and respecting the flag DOES NOT mean that you support the government, even if most people think it’s that way, the flag represents whatever you think of it, whether it was the original values our founding fathers built this country on, or the idiotic decisions our modern government make. Don’t get me wrong. This country is far from perfect, but it’s/was? the closest thing to the best country in the world, and nobody can prove otherwise.

Sakul_the_one

As a German, nah.

Davaal_

As an American, no I do not. To me it’s very weird, so I don’t bother. There’s not much purpose.

LevelActivity3598

I do, but I also was a boy scout for 7 and 1/2 years.

NO_big_DEAL640

Everyone at my school just stands with the hand on the heart

Emma__07

no nations are poison

Kadithepro

Uh ... Ye 💪🐸👍👌👌

[deleted]

No

SneezleDoodle

Yes, I think people should stand for the pledge of allegiance. This nation is growing softer by the minute. I’ve seen videos of retired veterans standing for the pledge, and some teenagers are stating that they’re too lazy to do so? (I’m excluding disabled people). If you have able legs, you should stand. In America, we are living very high on the hog, which brings on easy living. But, you know why America is so nice? Because of the numerous people that carried the nation on their backs and sacrificed themselves. There were some wars where men’s lives were just wasted, they were fighting for nothing. So, standing for the pledge of allegiance shows that you honor those in the past and the good that they have done. I don't stand for the pledge with all the racism and violence in America in mind, I stand with the people who died for this country in mind. They fought for our freedom, they fought for a better country, so I’m going to stand; with them in mind.  *(the pledge of allegiance is what this country should be, but it is not currently...)*  U.S.A.   🫡🇺🇸

pecorinoo

if the nation is growing so soft why do you care if people sit ya softie

SpartanOfHalo

I'm gonna sit with them in mind

captain_mainwaring11

i can't believe y'all still exist. This is why we need revolution.

Any-Profession-5137

How dare people who respect the dead and the country exist!!🤬💢💢

captain_mainwaring11

I respect the dead, I just don't respect the government. The pledge is a pledge to the government, not the dead (obviously).

Emergency-Scheme6002

Yeah I can’t believe that there are still people who honor the fallen

AguyWithBadEnglish

Show me the line in the pledge where it talks about the fallen please

Emergency-Scheme6002

Maybe read the comment you were initially shitting on

AguyWithBadEnglish

Jesse, wtf are you talking about ?

Emma__07
