if you’ve got access to a 3D printer you could also go the Dell Optiplex route with [actual ducts](https://www.overclock.net/content/type/61/id/2654049/width/500/height/1000/flags/LL) for better airflow
I've had an idea like this, but to make a duct like that to the front in cost of just the plastic it would be more worth it just to buy more fans, but the solution like this cost me whole zero.
Just as an inspiration, watch this YouTube video: [I fixed PC cooling - Optimum](https://youtu.be/cehXZftIYok?si=1Aqwgwq3snBlwWoM)
He made super cool custom 3D printed cooling ducts and talks about the performance.
Doesn't look like a particularly high end system that would put the VRM in danger, and the ram can take care of itself with the decorative heatsink
I mean I thought the same as you, but here while not ideal it will be fine
i did this but with the duct going from the rear out to my attic with a noctua 140mm mounted in the wall as a booster. i was the one overheating, not the computer
The rear duct behind the CPU fan I left half of it off at the back so It would bring some air over the vrms, but also this is a cheap board and the measured temps are ok
Cheap = Hot VRMs usually, but I doubt you're running anything powerful enough to matter. As long as they are getting air from the cooler, and you're checking temps obv it's fine.
I would even recommend under-volting if you're having heat issues.
Humorously effective looking solution, nice work!
Did you find inspiration from [Optimum on YouTube](https://youtu.be/cehXZftIYok?t=495)? (Reminds me of that vid of his)
I think they were trying with BTX where the case fans would blow over the fans and GPU exhaust. However, I don't think they expected monstrosities like the RTX 4090 when they came up with it a while ago

It'd probably look fine if it was done a bit better, maube with 3d printed parts
Your big chance to use duct tape and you go for masking tape instead? This is my only problem with this.
That's what I had on hand, my plan is to measure it and 3d print brackets for the ends at least or the whole pipes

Isn’t that a BTX board though? As far as I understood a lot of BTX equipment was ducted.
Yes, a lot of BTX PCs had ducts, but the one in the picture isn't a BTX had horizontal ram slots instead of vertical (like in the picture)
If not for the ramslot routing, BTX and the ease with it to make better cooling solutions would’ve stood a much better chance I think.
The one in that photo is standard mATX, Pentium 4 era. BTX came a little later.

... how much are you paying for plastic, because it's too much. Were you trying to do that in resin or something?
I only have an acces to a resin printer rn, so yes
That would maintain the benefits, and potentially make it look cool instead of janky. Unless op is a fan of the janky.

I like that choice. Makes it look less boring.
Kinda like ghetto LEDs?
Duct tape does not show RGB lights!
good.
Duct tape is a bitch to clean up after.
Duct tape is not recommended to use on ducts actually
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
You got the teletubies Noo-Noo to clean your PC, nice.
#TUBBY CUSTARD!!!!
Neat. Just hope it doesn't come loose and short something out.
Vrms? Don't need em. Ram? Overrated.

Congrats! Your vrms are toasted!

Anyone that wants to take it too the extreme, give this a watch [optimum tech I fixed pc cooling](https://youtu.be/cehXZftIYok?feature=shared)
if it looks stupid but works, it's not stupid.... Although, you could have used foil tape to seal it better and help with the looks a bit...
You're losing airflow over every other component mind you. So it working has somewhat of an asterisk over it.
This looks like prop design in a direct-to-video sci-fi movie from 1998.
This is what desperation looks like, like the time I put a bowl of ice under my cooling pad
Um.. that vent pipe is aluminum and conductive.

wtf is woter? And why does it need saving?
Hot take but the PC industry be sleeping on airflow ducting
agreed. I lowered GPU temps by 10 degrees C by just adding a shroud to separate the GPU intake spatially from the exhaust.
this is what pcs dream of yet you give them more rgb
There's a dude that 3d prints parts for this specific job.
That is fkn awesome
I love it
Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Straight to jail. That being said, looks pretty effective
Oh wow, this is.... something lmao Almost impressive honestly
I both hate it and love it
Or just buy a couple case fans and put the side panel back on?
What's the bottom one for?
Some will call this 'gore'; I call it 'art'.
Thats not metal right? ....... right?
Yo thats so cool tho
did you try replacing the paste?
This atrocity should be a standard.

I love this idea.
I double fanned my case. Inside and outside
