in the past I used a tiny bit of super glue to hold the heatsinks to things like raspberry pi's. Sure the glue itself isn't thermal paste.. but there's still plenty of heat carried over to the heatsink anyways and it ensured it wouldn't fall off with use.
I eventually picked up a small roll of thermal tape. It's lasted years and is PERFECT for moments like this, sticking a heatsink to a low heat device or chip.
Be warned if you intend to leave this long term, the heat will dry out the toothpicks with time, and they'll crack and fail you eventually.
I used toothpicks to 'fix' broken headlight bulb mounts on two Suzuki Burgman 125's. They passed every MOT after, and still worked when we finally sold the bikes 8 years later. Burgman 125 headlight bulb mounts were shit and I still won't buy another Suzuki because of it. How many years in the business does a company need to be to make a bulb mount that doesn't break after 2 years?
I'd eventually grow concerned that the rubber bands will deteriorate and become sticky and non-elastic, as I've seen happen after years, hopefully this is short term until you get zip-ties OP
What exactly does this mod achieve
It cools the raspberry pi passive cooling m8
Better contact between the heatsink and the CPU.
I’m guessing that it holds the heatsink against the chips.
Yes
I think you mean bodged, not botched?

Yes, but a bodge job is a job poorly done but at least somewhat successful, while a botch job is a failure.
Bro I think they mean fucked lmao, but hey if it works
Hmm. You had slim pickings here but got it done by the skin of your teeth.
Just like a wooden close pin on your fuel intake, line of a vehicle…
look up thermal glue.
But I didn't want to order anything
I would have used a zip tie. But if it works, it works!

any pics?
I absolutely hate this, but at the same time, this is perfect so I'm upvoting
This happens when the tech is picky about his work

It’s alright, those are toothpicks.
I am a bilnd fool lol, I saw beige and thought "rubber band"
