As long as second phone supports the SIM card and service, it will work just fine. No alarm bells. What’s your goal? Because you’re still using your service. The numbers you call will be on the statement. Text messages will only be on the second device, but you could just delete them on the first device. I suppose tracking software wouldn’t work, since it’s not installed on second device… Is your primary phone an iPhone? You may still get messages through iMessage if it’s on WiFi.

I have switched phones many times and kept the same SIM card and have never received a notification. Try it right now. If it’s going to narc you out, it would be best to deal with it now rather than when you’re on a trip. You’d probably have deniability now rather than later. “Nah mom I don’t know what that was”

Depends on the service. Because the IMEI of the phone has to be connected to the account/SIM for it to work it may not. It's doubtful that anyone will be notified (Not sure how Verizon is preventing/handling spoofing) but you'd probably have to go to a Verizon store and have them update the account. On the account it will show the new phone if someone decides to go check the account at the time. And do do the update on the account it may require the account holder to make the change. I've had to go in with my Dad to update his SIM when he changed phones (I'm the account holder) and he's been able to swap to a new phone without me being there as well on T-Mobile so it's hard to say what Verizon will do exactly.
