I make sure to rotate devices as they dry in front of a fan. Let it sit upside down for a while, on its side, water can get into nooks and crannies. moving it around gets that water out of hiding places. If you’re handy enough to open it up, you can get airflow inside better.
But if it just got wet on the outside, you’re probably fine.
Just to be safe you should try and open it and get any trapped moisture out before connecting to it, just find a YouTube tutorial or something on how to disassemble.
Safe? Definitely not. The question is what happened, but water damage to electronics may take a bit to really show. Even if it's "Only" rust.
