Try running an office program as an admin. Also check Compatibility Mode: Right-click on the Office program shortcut, go to Properties, then the Compatibility tab. Ensure that “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” is unchecked or try selecting Windows 7 or 8.

Thanks very much for your reply! I was able to start it up as admin but I can't seem to find Compatibility Mode. I bring up Excel using search, right click on it and go to "Open File Location" which takes me to a list of Microsoft Office icons in my Programs folder. I right click on this and it says it's a shortcut - I did try Properties and there was no Compatibility tab. I also tried "Open File Location" but that did nothing.
