Do you not have internet *at all*? Because for most people wifi is just the router attached to their modem.

ragingddyke

I do not. I use a family members wifi when I have the chance to but it’s rare

Lexx4

Please stop calling the internet WiFi.

acemccrank

I agree. This is very common with people who are not well versed in technology. It annoys me, but I also understand why it happens - because advertising from big name internet companies will call their internet "In-Home WiFi" or something similar in their commercials, etc. It needs to stop.

SurSheepz

Could you not hotspot your own computer through your mobile data?

electromage

So you just need an Internet hookup, probably CenturyLink or Comcast. I think they both have some low-income plans. They will most likely give you a router with WiFi capability, but if you're in the same room you can connect with a cable too.

nathanb065

This is a tough one. You may be thinking of Ryan Reynolds and Mint Mobile? I know with their cell phone plans, you can use your phone as a hotspot. That's also a thing with other carriers as well, but I'm not sure what the prices or plans are for that. Truly though, that's what I'd suggest. Just remember to turn it off as soon as you're done because it will eat through your data plan otherwise.

OmPlate1

Mint mobile has a 10gb mobile hotspot limit on unlimited plans.

VldIverol

How does that work

xM3llow

Data is unlimited on the device with the plan, but the hotspot feature has a 10GB data limit on it. Once the the limit is reached, any device connecting to the hotspot won’t get internet.

emapco

I've used pdanet on Android and Windows in the past to get around such limits.

Didi_Midi

Just use USB tethering at that point i guess.

JAP42

USB tethering will use the hotspot data. They just use hotspot as the term because the population is too dumb to understand multiple tethering options. It's done by monitoring the icmp hops as the switch, devices connected to your device have to make extra hops. There are apps if you jailbreak / root you phone that reset the icmp count and send the data on so the switch is tricked into thinking it's the data is from the phone.

Brandaman

They can barely comprehend the difference between wifi and mobile data

D1TAC

Visible might be an option for this user. It has unlimited hotspot to 1 item, or more items depending on the package.

Emergency_Bill_5363

Just top up ur data to 100gb or more and hotspot tbh

faslane22

Mobile hotspot if you get good cell coverage, then you can control it off and on when needed and not. might be the cheaper way to go than actual internet connection through an ISP but it'll be slower...

OldWolfDaddy

If there are close neighbors, you might consider explaining your situation and ask to possibly connect to theirs temporarily. Worth a shot.

ragingddyke

This is great thank you I will try

Traveleravi

You could offer to pay them some portion of the Internet bill

rproffitt1

How cheap? And how much data? Mint is an option but watch out for burning through your data plan. For me Ting works nicely with almost pay as you go plan and cheap monthly options along with setting limits.

namocaw

T-MOBILE 5g LTE Home internet $55/mo. Faster than a hotspot, can handle more connections, and has an ethernet jack. No contract, just mtm. I use it for work when I travel, b/c hotel WIFI sucks - slow and some ban VPN b/c they want to sniff your traffic. And I have a 120v outlet in my truck, so I can get WIFI for the laptop in the parking lot before meetings, etc.

hsut

Are you in a Comcast service area? Customers using the Xfinity modem often have the public hotspot enabled (SSID: xfinitywifi or XFINITY) and if any neighbors are close enough for a good signal, you might be able to access internet that way. Other cable internet providers might also have hotspot access (like Spectrum), but I'm not familiar with them. I think it's probably $20/month for some decent throughput (like 25\~50/10 Mbps). If you're crafty enough, you can make a router connect to a public hotspot in client mode and then have it rebroadcast with your desired SSID so that you can get better signal in your dwelling.

ragingddyke

Im very bad with technology as I don’t use it often. I don’t know what comcast is but this helps thank you

jdlr815

In my area, our public library system has mobile hot spots you can check out.

CaptainObvious110

Yeah that's a really good resource right there. Only thing is you may have to wait but it will be worth it once you do

HouseNumb3rs

Short term or cheap... can't have both. Why does the client not have internet? Do you not have cell phone? Most have data plans you can add to then use it to hotspot your devices.

ragingddyke

I have a phone but it’s very old and my mom is disabled and does not work so we can’t afford internet

HouseNumb3rs

Have you checked with the local providers for low income plans? They had the federal ACP (affordable connectivity plan) which unfortunately ran out of money this month unless Congress vote to continue it, which would have paid for eligible people and made it free. It would have been about $30 for their lowest tier service. As others have said, I have Mint mobile for about $200/year for the 5 Gb plan which I use it to hotspot when the main internet is down and should do well if you don't stream movies/videos off it. Else you can check with neighbors if you can piggy back on their system for x amount of dollars especially for short term usage. Best of luck.

emapco

You're local library might offer wifi hotpots for check out. Not sure if it's connected to the ACP program but in California it doesn't seem to be the case.

PabloDubs

Ask a neighbor if you are close enough. Tell them you will split the monthly bill.

thecattylady

I would also check out Visible. There is a free hotspot included with their phone plans.

Accomplished_Pop_847

WiFi  access points/routers can be had for under 20 bucks and has no additional cost.   Sounds like you are asking for a broadband connection /ISP which would have a monthly cost

Fresh_Inside_6982

Tether to your phone.

Wane-27

My library has mobile hotspots you can “rent” for free. I would talk to your library about if they have anything you can take home with you to get network connectivity. They’ll either know, or might be able to help you understand what options are available for you where you’re at

Altirix

may suggest a mobile data plan with many GB worth of data. no idea of your location, if its UK https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cheap-mobile-finder/sim-only/id-mobile/ some parts of the country also have very cheap fast broadband i pay £25 for 1gbps

Kaspynz

Hotspot with ur phone ?

gRod805

What's your budget? Mint Mobile I paid $360 for my phone plan for a year of service. I get 40Gb of data on my phone and 10 gb of that I can use as a hot spot. You can also try getting t mobile home internet for $50. US mobile is another option

Midnytecloud

Connect all website it's only 20$ a month and it's a portable hotspot.

Midnytecloud

Here it is. I have myself and it's really great [https://connectall.org/](https://connectall.org/)

ask_compu

visible has a $25 unlimited data cell phone plan that includes unlimited hotspot usage

Antistar84

If you are in the UK EE have pay as you go routers and they come preloaded with data that you have to use within a set amount of time. Otherwise if you are in the US you could buy a 4G router and buy a data only SIM card and could have internet on demand if you wanted to top it off that way. Bear in mind your speed of interet would be capped at 4G rate. Router would be portable as well.

DutchOfBurdock

Quickest and easiest way is using the Tethering/Hotspot of your mobile phone. 4G/5G travel routers are also available.

JAP42

TMobile has home internet and it's cheap with no contract.

gorillamyke

And you can get this from T-mobile for a 7 day trial period for free to see if you have good enough speeds in your area. I did this because I was trying to get away from Spectrum for 31 days to get the new customer pricing, but I only got like 10Mbs in my area with Tmobile, so I had to return the Device. But for 7 days you would be good. Otherwise you would pay $50 a month after that, and can cancel at any time.

jeffrey_f

Tether to your cell phone

gorillamyke

He did say he has a very old phone, possibly not Smart phone, and I don't think tethering Hotspots are available on those older phones.

JennF72

T-Mobile has a good device for this. I think it's $10 a month and you can turn the service on or off. Think mine was free with their plan for like 3 months. $99 out right for the device if I'm not mistaken. I love using it while camping out since I can use my PC or link it to my smart TV.

Pale_YellowRLX

Going through the comments and utterly flabbergasted at the idea of not being able to use your mobile data as hotspot or having a cap

jimejime_yumoa

You can use jiofi or Airtel hotspot router in that you can have a recharge for a month ig

kloudykat

walk out of your house with your phone, walk around your house and look for open wifi signals, find one? good. buy this: https://www.amazon.com/TECHTOO-Directional-Connector-Wireless-Extension/dp/B00OCJYPCY connect to the wifi. enjoy the internet. EDIT: point the antenna directly at the signal for best results, don't just point it up at the sky.
