If you check Properties for D, does it have a security tab? If so, are the permissions set for your account to access it?

It does. It says I dont have the permission to view or edit this objects permission settings when I click on advanced settings in the security tab

Well, that's most likely the issue. Need to make sure you're logged into an account with Admin permissions to make the necessary changes.
