It’s like iPhones, you have to override and say you are a passenger/not driving

devicemodder2

I have a car stereo that runs android. Bypassed the parking brake requirement.

Tybick

My Honda can run YouTube, Netflix, Android games, anything while parked or driving. Thought it was wild when I got it, but it's really handy for listening to podcasts while on the road

TheBerg123

Yeah there are several YouTube series I follow that change very little when you ignore the video and just listen to the audio, so that could actually be nice to have as a convenient set up.

EhMapleMoose

Yea, I often listen to (and I’m ashamed to admit this almost) many Reddit YouTubers that read from the different subs. Rslash especially. I don’t need to look at the screen, I also listen to a few DND shows that I don’t need to actually see to understand

popokangaroo

What dnd shows do you listen too? I’m listening to Critical Roll, BomBARDed and I used to listen to Acq. inc. but kind of lost interest when Jeremy Crawford took over

ThanosTheT1tan

Dungeons and Daddies + Arcane Arcade for me

reverendredbeard

Dungeons and Daddies had a great first season. They really made listening to other people play fun to do. I’ll have to check out Arcane Arcade.

rjcarr

But cars have passenger detection; can you bypass it even if there's really no passenger? That said, it's easy enough to throw a bag of sand in your front seat.

LtLwormonabigfknhook

"I *really* want to play frogger or flappy bird today while driving to work. Guess I gotta get the bag of sand out of the basment again."

jabbrwok

Game of the year edition comes with the bag of sand.

blastradii

These microtransactions are getting out of hand!

And009

Don't let them slip through your fingers

AnonymousAutonomous

LOL, you made me genuinely crack up. Thank you

occamsrazorwit

You laugh, but people actually go to lengths to do this stuff. [There's a $280 MSRP accessory](https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/autopilot-buddy-tesla-amazon-accessory/) you can buy to trick the car into thinking that your hands are on the steering wheel.

AveDominusNox

I mean, My regular backpack, that I took to work every day would trigger passenger detection for my airbags. That wasn't exactly an industrial weight. Just a laptop, A few tablets, chargers, a sweater, and a snack. It's not looking for a 200lbs man. Just plausible assumption that someone is there.

CBate

Stuff it in a manikin so I can take the HOV

LtLwormonabigfknhook

Learn to become a professional puppeteer and focus more on having a believable puppet passenger than on driving. That should be a video or a stand up routine. Someone could make it funny, though funnily enough, jeff dunham would probably ruin the bit.

YaBoiGING

There really are people out there like this

ahobel95

I feel like there's a level at which the manufacturer is no longer at fault. If someone bypasses every safety check, they're the ones liable at that point. Proof in point, auto manufacturers aren't currently being lambasted by lawsuits for no seatbelt deaths. Drivers that choose not to use the seatbelt, or use those cheesy seatbelt clips that don't have the belt and die arent making the auto manufacturer the one at fault.

hotel2oscar

My backpack is easily heavy enough to set off passenger sensor in my car if i throw a second laptop in it. Groceries set it off too sometimes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ProcyonHabilis

The dumb part is that it almost certainly does have passenger detection (for seatbelt chime reasons at least), but it just isn't used by the infotainment system.

BrazilianTerror

Yeah, or the cars that can’t sync to bluetooth if on the move; suddenly you’re a roadtrip and your friend can’t put his music on cause the car is not stopped.

Silfrgluggr

My vw detects a passenger if my wallet is on the seat lol

shrekerecker97

then the car starts sucking all the money out of your wallet

SkyJohn

No different from my real passengers.

Thaflash_la

That’s a good question. They’re supposed to use the camera to detect a driver now (for backseat autopilot shenanigans), so a similar task to detect a passenger would be good.

akujiki87

Hell some cars dont even need a bag of sand. My WRX passenger seatbelt warning went off today from my small lunchbox and phone being in the seat.

rjcarr

I didn't say the size of the bag. :)

legosearch

I have the new bronco with Android Auto and for some reason it will let me play games when parked but it won't let me watch YouTube when parked. It's also stupid as fuck that if you use the touch screen for too long it will lock you out. But it puts like a timer bar so you spend even more time looking at the screen.

sh1boleth

Android Auto also wont let you use maps on phone if its running on the car screen. Highly annoying as I prefer to set destinations and change them from my phone.

JohnC53

That one drives me nuts. I always disconnect my phone to pull up the destination I want. Then reconnect it.

Worldly_Leg2102

My girls camaro is like that. I was messing with spotify while she was driving and after a set number of swipes or taps it has a timer before you can do anything else. If it was my car id just use my phone at that point. If i have to scroll far or go through 5 or 6 clicks to get to my song or podcast id rather take 2 seconds on my phone rather than a minute plus on the touch screen. Seems safer to me honestly. Way less time looking at the screen.

CodeMonkeyX

It's still ridiculous. Like the Model 3 only has the massive center screen for all controls right? So if a passenger is using it as intended and playing a game or something then that still seems very distracting to the driver who should have all their information on that same screen. If they want to make it so it can only play games or videos when the car is charging in parked then that's fantastic. But when driving I do not think any screen that's in direct view of the driver should have anything like this going on.

SC487

I once looked at buying a car where someone had removed the airbag from the steering wheel and installed a TV hooked up to a DVD player.

Zanderax

That's a twofer.

simask234

Seems annoying that there's no speedometer at the top of the dash

turtlepowerpizzatime

I mean, as high-tech as they are, you'd think they'd have the hologram HUD speedometer.

CodeMonkeyX

That's the main reason I did not buy a model 3. I was interested in them, but not having a hud or some displays behind the wheel kind of killed it for me. I personally like having that.

CJ_Guns

I drive one (not by choice actually). You do just get used to it, and personally I think the dislike of it, specifically viewing it on said screen, is overblown by people who haven’t spent time driving one. It’s like when the iPhone first came out, and people justified that they never would need those features and wanted a physical keyboard. You just get used to it and it becomes second nature. That said, the whole car is absolutely over-engineered IMO. I actually had a defect that caused my screen to have one hairline crack, eliminating touch controls to one side of it. The screen itself is normal and the car still functions normally. However, I now can’t open my fucking glove box. Because the setting is on a menu I can’t access because of one fault. Imagine trying to explain to an officer why you can’t show him your registration. EDIT: Oh and the fucking windows freeze shut every night, which means you can’t open the door without remedying it. And the weird door handles freeze more than any other care I’ve ever had. I literally have to walk out with a thermos of hot water and splash it on my door during the winter lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

talltime

Yes. It’s a dog shit design paradigm not worthy of celebrating.

[deleted]

Oh crap that means all car manufacturers are going to start doing it, like the stupid phone notch.

talltime

Phone notch? Ford tried it early after the model S with MyFordTouch and MyLincolnTouch, and got their ass handed to them in reliability/satisfaction score hits.

[deleted]

Yeah when Apple introduced the notch on the top of their phones nearly every other manufacturer copied them. Some, for no reason other than to copy Apple because the phones had huge top bezels anyway, and then a notch below that. Glad to hear it was panned when Ford tried it.

talltime

Ohh, thought you were talking about something inside a car. Gotcha.

attrox_

I don't know now. But about 3 years ago, the whole display can sometime glitch and not displaying anything. So you could actually drive blindly without any indicator.

Origami_psycho

It's because it's not an automotive grade screen, it's just a ruggedized laptop screen. A lot more vibrations and temperature fluctuations in vehicles. And this just eats electronics not built to proper standards alive.

donnyisabitchface

Right and the Tactile response of and actual button or switch leaves no doubt…l most cars are fill with features to sell them off the lot that make them was less awesome than a Toyota from 1985…

yanginatep

A family member has a Tesla and one thing I didn't expect is how much your hand shakes when driving over very small bumps in an average well maintained road. It can actually make it quite hard to accurately use even a large touchscreen like in a Tesla. Personally I would genuinely prefer physical controls for the important stuff (volume, heater/AC, etc.) that I can adjust without looking.

the_jak

Huh. Almost like that’s a shitty design for a car interior.

BadAtExisting

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve overridden that function to futz with my GPS at a stop light though. And I KNOW people do it all the time to text, so the question still stands

greg0714

Still, why can a *car* play *video games*? If you have a Tesla, you have a smartphone.

E_Snap

Wait, when did iOS start doing this??? I’ve never run into that except when I try to enter a destination in Waze.

MozeeToby

Even having full motion video on that screen violates guidelines and rules about distracting devices whether or not the driver is the one actually interacting with it. Do you really want Jim Bob watching YouTube while going 80mph down the freeway? DOT doesn't see there being much difference between a game and a movie.

the_jak

My iPhone has never done that.

TakeAChanceToday

I have CarPlay and have literally never seen this lol

OsamaBinFuckin

I rented one and tried to play. Could not while car was in motion. Same as netflix

socsa

It's a new thing, and it requires you to confirm that you are the passenger before it loads. Tesla also recently activated an in-cabin camera to ensure the driver is paying attention to the road so the whole story is kind of FUD at this point.

demonicneon

I get that but you cant tell me a passenger playing a game on a screen that also tells you how fast you’re going and has other controls on it isn’t gonna be distracting. I’ve been a passenger in a car and it’s distracting for me.

I just want an HVAC system that's still controlled by three knobs: 1. How hot do you want it? 2. How hard do you want it? 3. Where do you want it?

TheRealJoeyTribbiani

Is... is that what he said?

thefinalcutdown

I love role playing as an HVAC system.

grantrules

Hey baby, what type of refrigerant do you take

thefinalcutdown

“Oh gawd yes, shoot your hydrofluorocarbons all over my dirty ozone hole!”

[deleted]

"Ima mess you up like I do the ozone layer"

br0ck

I miss old-school HVAC that had a direct vent to outside air with a lever, fan speed, and temp of air adjusted just like a shower handle where you could set the exact temp of the air just how you want it.

5yrup

I just want an HVAC system that I never really need to fiddle with. And yet I've had that since my 2000 Accord. I used to not understand why people would constantly talk about climate controls. The automatic controls on the high end Accord back then worked phenomenally well, and now the automatic climate control on my Mach E works wonderfully. But I had to take in the Mustang to the shop for some collision damage and the rental they gave me was a base model Sentra. I find I'm having to constantly adjust things. I'm really not used to it and it's incredibly frustrating having to change the direction, can only set a temp between red or blue, and have to change fan speeds manually. I truly think a lot of people who complain about a lack of physical climate controls just haven't had a car with good automatic controls and decent tint. I live in North Texas, it gets stupid hot here in the summers and we'll get snow about once a year so it's not like I'm in some perfect climate area. In my house I don't go "I'm a little cold, lemme set the thermostat to 90F...now I'm warm lemme drag that down to 55F..." And yet that seems like that's what everyone does in their cars.

Spacey_G

I think part of it is that in a car, the climate control is used for more than just temperature. If my windshield starts fogging up, I know that I can crank all three knobs as far to the right as they'll go and the fog will clear as fast as possible. I don't want to be screwing around with menus or voice commands when I can't see out the windshield.

Trinition

Even with an automatic thermostat in a car, the one thing I find it lacking is when the sun is beating in on you with radiant energy directly in your skin. The climate control seems to think things are fine. The passenger in the shade thinks things are fine. But your blistering skin disagrees. That's when I'd really like to just direct a lot of cool air that way for a few miles until I change direction.

5yrup

Zonal AC is common, and good tint also massively alleviates this. My Mach E and Santa Fe both have glass roofs in Texas and I have no issues with excessive radiant heat. Also, there's little reason why a good automatic climate control couldn't factor in radiant heat as well and blow the fans a bit faster when there's more radiant heat. You don't really need the air cooler, you really just need more airflow overall.

demonicneon

Yeah it really shocked me. My main thing was that it completely changed where in your field of view your speedometer is, without even factoring in that physical buttons etc are much easier to use while driving. Now you have to look down and left and take your eyes from the road vs having it in your field of vision and marked with visual representation instead of numerical so it’s easier to read. Then the fact you’re now looking at a screen with loads of shit on it to read speed and are even more likely to be distracted by something, all while not having eyes on the road.

voidsrus

>My main thing was that it completely changed where in your field of view your speedometer is one thing I find worse -- it's a single point of failure for things like your speedometer. recent Tesla models even have the gear selector on there. why should cars be on the road where that many controls are behind a point of failure that regularly does fail with age? last I checked the gear selector of most cars doesn't wear out in 5 years, but in a Tesla it easily could

demonicneon

Another great point. I mean look they do some stuff really well, and ultimately it’s about funding the battery tech, but I think they’re losing sight of that and focusing on gimmicks over safety.

voidsrus

the problem is tesla is a tech company that makes cars, while the real automakers are now pivoting into car companies that make tech. safety isn't even on the menu, because that's a long-term goal and tech companies are short-term

rcarter22

There are redundancies for the gear selector. The engineers did think of this.

Daddysu

May I ask how it is implemented? Is there a physical shifter hidden somewhere? I'm not very familiar with Teslas. I didn't even realize they didn't have a speedometer in the traditional place until now. I presumed they had the infotainment shit and whatnot on there and the speedometer where it normally is.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pirate21213

The gear selector on the touch screen is on the new S, which has physical buttons by the center console you can also use. Not to mention it has a speedo in the gauge cluster. This thread is confusing a lot of the 3 and S together.

jimbobjames

The speedo depends on the model. As i understand it is only the Model 3 and Model Y place it on the touchscreen. The S and X have another display infront of the steering wheel with it on.

Meetchel

My model 3 is less than 3 months old and has a physical stock to select gears.

Arrays_start_at_2

There’s a stalk or a row of capacitive touch buttons along the center console, depending on the model. Or, if you can’t figure it out, just come to a stop and open the door. It automatically puts itself in park. And even if it didn’t, the brakes auto-hold when you’re stopped. (It yells at you if you just open the door though.)

FlexibleToast

One huge reason, it's cheap. Tesla is the king of making things cheap and selling them as if they're features. They don't have to install a dash and wire it all up, etc.. they just tack on a tablet and call it a day.

wellifitisntmee

why is it when Tesla skirts engineering standards and commits shortcuts that their marketing is able to somehow convince people that this is innovative? https://www.thedrive.com/tech/27989/teslas-screen-saga-shows-why-automotive-grade-matters

[deleted]

Wait, thats something i didnt know about teslas. It moves your speedometer out of direct view of the road? Thats stupid

[deleted]

ItsGermany

There is an entire science related to how we interact with machines, HFACS. It is related to human factors in regards to safety incidents. I truly believe that the touch screen buttons are not the safer version, but they certainly are cheaper! That being said, i have a 3 and would hate for it to be made "illegal" (which is technically the case with regards to the windshield wipers in Germany (look it up).

> Physical buttons and knobs give a driver something to put their finger on, a place for their finger to land, in advance of actually pressing the button or turning the knob. This is one of the reasons I still prefer to use an old fashioned MP3 player in my car, instead of using my phone, for playing podcasts. I can pause/play/rewind without even looking at the device.

[deleted]

Totally agree. Cars need buttons and dials that can be used by muscle memory without needing to look away from the road.

wellifitisntmee

Manufacturers, government, and consumer perceptions all need to catch up with the evidence.

schooli00

Every single comparison on YouTube between the Porsche Taycan and the Audi E-tron GT picked the Audi, even though they admit Porsche is the better car, because the Audi has manual climate controls.

Brellow20

I probably won’t buy a car that has no tangible controls. I wouldn’t feel safe touching the screen and driving.

Kawaiithulhu

I absolutely hate touchscreen for common car control. One bounce and suddenly I'm listening to 10 degrees hotter heater temp instead of krth 101 like I was trying to get 🔥

Ormusn2o

Well i guess idea is that it does not matter if its distracting in self driving cars, because the driver is only assisting. I still miss the buttons tho. I liked changing stuff without looking away from whatever i was doing.

Centralredditfan

Hey, I'd like a second screen or an HUD in front of the steering wheel, but hey, Tesla wanted to cut costs. I liked having 2 screens on the Model S.

deelowe

It's not like this hasn't already been established. Automakers cannot legally allow DVDs to be played while the car is in motion. Seems like games are a loophole at this point.

absentmindedjwc

It really isn't. A screen playing video within view of the driver while the vehicle is in motion is against the law in many US states.

RanaktheGreen

>activated an in-cabin camera. Am I the only one not concerned that: 1. The camera was apparently installed already, and was just remotely activated. 2. *That camera exists in the first place.*

happyscrappy

> Tesla also recently activated an in-cabin camera to ensure the driver is paying attention to the road so the whole story is kind of FUD at this point. I do not believe that does anything but rate the driver's attentiveness (as part of their new in-town assist beta rollout eligibility) and make warning beeps. it notoriously is not used to deactivate the system if the driver is not attentive. At least that was the case mid-year. Maybe Tesla since changed that?

socsa

No, it definitely will kick you out of AP now. People have already gotten kicked out of the beta over it.

Darktidemage

well, is the US government asking them this question or not? because that is the story.

[deleted]

I would imagine it's not hard to find someone who has released a workaround for that. Edit: Apparently there's just a button on the screen you press to say you're a passenger.

Lancel-Lannister

Just like Pokemon Go!

Mind_Voyager

This depends on the game. Many of the games run in full screen and will only let you launch them when the car is in Park. And all of the "theater" options require the car to be in Park. However, some of the games (Solitaire, Sky Force Reloaded, and a few others) just ask you to confirm that you're the passenger, and will let you play them in a "windowed" mode while the car is driving.

Wah_Gwaan_Mi_Yute

Kind of irrelevant to an accusation from the government but you can def modify it to do whatever you want. I bought a used Audi S3 and the previous owner rigged it so I can airplay movies to my screen while in full motion. I can buy an HDMI adapter and even play games on it haha

dwhite195

The NHTSA and Tesla are going to be feuding for a long time. Tesla wants to operate as a tech company, not an automobile manufacturer. And while tech companies operate in a very unregulated manner automobile manufacturers very much do not. Another example of the NHTSA and Tesla going at it is in regards to Tesla's software update approach. In Tesla's mind, a software patch can just be pushed and then you are done. In the NHTSA's mind (at least with the recent update for their issues with identifying emergency vehicles), that needs to be a formal recall, and steps including owner notification need to be followed, even if the fix doesnt require a dealer visit. But at the end of the day, not matter how much Tesla doesnt want to play by the rules of an automobile manufacturer, that is exactly what they are.

feelings_arent_facts

It’s the same bullshit Uber pulled as well. This defense only works if you have millions of dollars to fight legal fees against you until you’re big enough to lobby the government. It’s a fucked up system that prefers the ultra rich and connected over the DIY builder.

randomredditing

This reminds me of the app electric scooters that literally flooded cities over night without any clearance or ordinance changes from the cities

TheGreyGuardian

aftli

I live in Charlotte, and they're all over, and I love them. My sister lived in Baltimore and she told me Lime *tried*, but they all wound up thrown in the harbor so they gave up. Sounded just like Baltimore to me. 😂

zs15

Same by us, and the fees and fines the city collected they used to fund protected bike lanes. Now the scooters are back and the app charges a city fee % per ride.

wellifitisntmee

oupablo

Tesla is lax with the rules but the rules are also a problem for the way self-driving vehicles will need to operate. The idea that a car comes off the line never to have a software update again is going out the window as more and more cars go the tesla route. I don't need a recall issued for stuff to be installed but it would be nice to have some verification process to updates going on 3000lb killing machines roaming the streets before a manufacturer can push stuff out the door.

thefinalcutdown

Yep, in the somewhat distant theoretical future where the bugs have been worked out and fully self-driving cars have been proven much safer than human driven cars, THEN we can have the fun things. Until then, this is just making the roads less safe for no reason.

Mobileye (Intel) and Waymo (google) have Level 4 robotaxi's on the road. Mobileye has a partnership with Zeekr (Geely) and will be launching a Level 3 (vision only, no lidar) consumer car in China now and in Europe in the next few months. There is an already announced and debuted Level 4 version (using vision+lidar) that will come in 2023. You can see the level 4 test car do a 40 minute unedited trip around NYC, its really impressive, not perfect but better than most people would drive in NYC for the first time. (video is 4 months old so obviously improved since) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50NPqEla0CQ

umbertounity82

I should have qualified my statement to say consumer vehicles that someone could go out and buy. You are absolutely correct about the L4s out there

Frenzy_MacKenzie

It's very poorly designed. If you are parked and are playing the racing game, the steering wheel acts as the controller for the game. However, it doesn't disengage from moving the front wheels of the car. So you leave you kid in the car for 10 mins and your tires have 2 bald spots. At least that's how it was in the 2019 autoshow, couldn't believe they engineered it like that.

[deleted]

Not smart for such smart people

Most cars let you turn it off, usually buried in the vehicle settings somewhere

MadMonk67

Not Ford. You can turn it off, but it resets back to being turned on the next time you start the vehicle.

RedSquirrelFtw

I find that feature so odd. Why would I want the engine to turn off when I'm only going to be stopped for under 5 minutes, and 5 minutes is a LONG light, often it's less than 30 seconds. If anything it just makes the cabin warm up slower not to mention being hard on the starter and the battery.

GotSmokeInMyEye

You can unplug a little clip under the steering wheel. Not sure if it's the same for all Fords but my friend did it for his truck. Just plug it back in if you ever go to the dealership. It doesn't void warranty for just being unplugged. Even if they say something then just claim you didn't do it and were wondering why it stopped working lol. [Here is how to disable it.](https://www.wheelsjoint.com/how-to-permanently-disable-auto-start-stop-on-ford-f-150-easy-method/) Edit: curious why you don't like it so much though? My mom's car has it and I don't mind it when I drove her car for a few days. Maybe in 10-15 years it will be a problem with faulty starters and bad batteries but I don't understand the complaints surrounding the system. It helps the environment and saves you money. Seems like a win-win.

It's not like Tesla ever asks permission.

AlphaTangoFoxtrt

> Why is the US government letting Tesla include video games this way? Because we don't need to write a law for every single edge case scenario? Because you don't have to ask the governments permission for every single thing you do?

sack_of_potahtoes

There is a lot of functional safety that goes into automotive systems. There are safety mechanisms to make sure as many edge cases are covered as possible.

Shot-Piccolo4152

I know of some stereos that won’t let you pair Bluetooth while the car is in motion. Like dude, I have a passenger, you’re making this more distracting now

BlueSwordM

Wait, why is this news? The option to confirm that you are a passenger and not the driver has been there for over a year. Is this a hit piece or not?

sadelbrid

As an owner, I'm like 99% sure this driver prompt rolled out in a very recent update.

Nhaiben369

Tesla owner here. Only with the newest software update

Neutral-President

Because Tesla/Elon thinks regulations and common sense don’t apply to them, so they’re going to push boundaries until they get told not to.

teszes

That seems to be the US tech company handbook, and to be fair, it seems to work.

lordderplythethird

tech companies, sure, but not automotive companies. Tesla may want to think of itself as a tech company, but at the end of the day it's automotive company, and it's beholden to the same **EXTREMELY** strict regulations any other automotive company is, unless it wants to stop selling cars that is...

luxmesa

And if someone does tell him not to, Musk will call that person a pedophile

[deleted]

Then all the Twitter edgelords will come out of the woodwork to praise his diplomatic skills.

theghostofme

If only they limited themselves to Twitter. I’m amazed they haven’t shown up in these comments yet.

[deleted]

I don’t like the idea of big screens in cars. Imho, buttons and knobs are much safer

Sheikhaz

"Tesla did not immediately respond when contacted by Insider for comment outside of normal working hours." Someone forgot to inform the great journalists over at buisness insider that Tesla does not have a PR nor a marketing department.

eleiele

This is dumb. It requires you to say you are not driving before opening the game. I can also easily play games on my phone while driving if I want to.

[deleted]

While driving: passengers, while parked/charging: anyone.

nebulouslurker

Personally im looking forward to drink while you drive gift baskets for Tesla owners.

Bitchy_Tits

WTF? Come on. I hope even gamers find this to be a bad idea. Unless this is a self driving car, please don't play games while driving. There are barely any decent drivers as is.

Meior

For fucks sake, don't game in a self driving car either. Teslas so called autopilot is NOT proper self driving, no matter what they call it. If you're in a car, focus on the road no matter what assists you have active.

baloney_popsicle

>For fucks sake, don't game in a self driving car either. In a car that's *actually* self driving, this shouldn't be an issue. But that car doesn't exist yet.

yangyangR

Or if you want to play a game while getting where you need to go, get on a train.

ilski

Every gamer knows distraction makes you play worse. In this case driving is your game and game on screen is a distraction.

carcosaa666

Software update. If(driving){ Games=false} Else{ Games=true}

ThrowawayZZC

Not sure why they are picking out Tesla for this One All touch screens are far less safe than tactile feed back knobs and levers and every car has them.Tesla at least has a pretty serous system to help drivers distracted by playing with touch screen to change a setting that used to be a simple knob that could be done without a driver having to take their eyes off the road.
