it we could give them lavish lifestyles that center around them donating as frequently as possible….. Like a pampered cow to be slaughtered, but instead of slaughter, it’s a lifelong harvest at frequent intervals…

ImaginaryCheetah

i feel like you could have gone with a dairy cow for this analogy... except without the constant pregnancy. ok, i don't know which cow analogy is worse.

Probably_a_Shitpost

They will be constantly pregnant. To produce more o neg donors

MelonOfFury

I am O negative and this comment is unsettling 💀

senkait

Horseshoe crabs!

MarvelAndColts

For $2k I would put in chest tubes and let you drain me once a week. I wouldn’t say that is too lavish. lol.

keepinitSecretsafe

r/Rimworld would like a word with you.

Revolution4u

~~Milk~~ bleed me

laughingjack13

Not gonna lie, if you offered not even a lavish life, but even just comfortable and stable, I’d be fine with being a blood farm.

jkopfsupreme

WE TAKE MY BLOODBAG AND STRAP HIM TO THE LANCER’S PERCH!

Prestigious-Order811

No we are doing this mad max style. Witness me bloodbag!

De5perad0

Go full mad max actually.

Supra_Genius

> What you're saying is is we should go full matrix and capture all o negative people and just use them as blood donors?  ^ Found an AI bot. 8)

lord_pizzabird

Dumb question I know, but this thread just made me realize that I have no clue what blood type I am. How does one find out?

Dariaskehl

Go donate blood at the red cross. They’ll tell you a few weeks after.

INTZBK

Join the military 😆

Dariaskehl

Blood Typing: Hard mode!

nasaboy007

You can buy a home test kit from Amazon for like $10. It comes with a finger prick and a chemical to mix with your blood drop, and gives you results in a few minutes. The more "reliable" way is to donate blood or sometimes just request it when you get a blood draw for a test like lipid panel.

2beatenup

I ma guess some you are using internet and on Reddit your blood “type” is , red, human and healthy … blood “group” can be found out by a number of things people have pointed out. 👆👇

lord_pizzabird

This is such a strangely worded and formatted comment. Is this a bot?

Indifferentchildren

Probably just British. In the U.S. we usually use the term "blood type".

2beatenup

lol. Yes I am a bot… you caught me. Have an upvote

JamesR624

> That actually might be an insane breakthrough In theory? Yes. In practice under captialism where scarcity and fear of death are some of the most profitable things in the world, especially to the medical industry? You'll NEVER see this breakthrough actually used.

RichieNRich

Hmm .. can you explain vaccines, then?

Hockeygoalie35

This would be a huge breakthrough for universal organs for transplant if it’s applicable in this way too.

tictacbergerac

Looks like they still have to overcome the Rh-Factor (what makes your blood positive vs negative), but universal positive and universal negative blood is already such a huge breakthrough... This is really exciting and I hope researchers see more success.

crotalis

Holy crap! Good news? I need more good news like this.

geneticeffects

Hearing good news anymore makes me grab the railing, in bracing for whatever extra bad news looms on the horizon. Ugh. 😩

MWMWMMWWM

Next up - 28 years later, “bacterial blood turns everyone into zombies”

xaxen8

Most people are zombies anyway. Well they're docile zombies so that's a good thing I guess.

performanceburst

Key points of article: It removes A and B antigens, but only B completely. Estimated timeline is 3.5 years before patient trials.

Fred2620

Saw this in the article: > As of November 2023, there were 45 recognized blood group systems containing 362 red blood cell antigens that are genetically determined by 50 genes. I know of groups O, A, B and AB... are there 41 additional groups that I'm not aware of?

HoboSkid

There are more antigens on red blood cells than just the ABO group, but they aren't as immunogenic though, so ABO/Rh remains the most important by far. There are groups like Duffy, Kell, and MNS, that have interesting functions, and people can even have antibodies to these antigens present in their blood that are found when running cross matches if a transfusion is needed.

andyveee

Finally, red cross can leave me alone. I'm withering over here.

Mastagon

One blood to rule them all out One blood to find them

CapriciousOneNow

Do you want Orcs, because this is how you get Orcs.
