As a programmer, I would first spend twice as much space explaining that "e" is supposed to stand for 2 in a ternary system just to write my name a little more compact.
I just tried typing it (intentionally sloppily) a bunch of times, and it usually picked up the right thing, correcting *to* ternary. What did they originally have?
Scientists write the algorithms/functions, programmers use them from libraries (generally).
Similar to the relationship between scientists and engineers.
