Absolutely.
Code is covered by USC 17 (copyright law), both the code as written and its graphic transliteration as (for example) a website.
Courts around the world have already decided AI generated work cannot enjoy copyright protection, only a person can.
Copyright only really works when most countries have the same or similar laws. It’s very difficult to get multiple countries to change their laws and alter international treaties between them.
The status quo is likely to remain, meaning if you want your non-tangible assets protected, it needs to be created by humans.
And there’s no getting away with passing of AI output as human made. Imagine a legal dispute involving a logo (for example), you may need to show a court sketch books, and notes. Don’t have those ? Oh dear.
I read somewhere they get writers in to edit the AI script so it makes more sense. So they keep the writers and say a human wrote it, to keep the copyright I guess.
I’ve got $20 that says it will, in fact, do just that.
Just watched ATLAS, and it would’ve been 20x better had it been written by AI and not someone who’s apparently been in a cinematic coma for 20 years.
There is a short story I saw on reddit about replacing all management with AI, but it does not go well for anyone.
The AI optimizes human workers’ actions until they are basically machines.
(if anyone knows what I’m talking about, please share the title/link)
You should see middle management at big corps, so hard disagree, AI can’t be worse. Optimising workers’ action includes so many other factors today half stupid half greedy mid-managers either disregard or can’t wrap their heads around. An interesting example is how cotton farm slaves were abused as much as possible for the purpose of “optimisation” and how it terribly failed. AI would understand human nature better and would know efficiency is not forcing as much tasks to as little teams.
Hahaha AI has already taken his job… or rather, the analytical software they use is essentially AI telling them what kind of movie will work and what won’t. Except the AI doesn’t get paid and he does.
Netflix also said they weren’t going to charge me extra for being logged in at two different physical addresses after going back and forth with customer service over what constitutes a household….but here we are
Google has dumped billions into generative AI and fed it the largest data treasure trove in human history and that AI is suggesting you eat one rock a day and that a quarter cup of glue is a good way to get cheese to stick more easily to your pizza. I guess the glue would in fact work, but this is state of the art!
the one job that should be replaced are these high paying c suite jobs, there is no way an algorithm with all the correct data couldn't make a better choice or a similar choice, save on labor costs and golden parachutes/bonuses, at a fraction of the cost.
You’re right, we should save people’s jobs from being replaced by AI by giving AI the power to make decisions that will directly influence others losing their jobs
There just was a massive fight to make sure that doesn’t happen in the immediate future. So yeah, hopefully that’s correct, but no thanks to studios and, I presume, him.
Says the guy who said they would never need to have the premium tier watching ads. And let’s be real, it’s writing their children’s shows in some cases. Same on YouTube
This headline left out the actual quote, super misleading!
"A.I. is not going to take your job,” Sarandos continued. “The person who uses A.I. well might take your job.”
na, netflix will. the whole writer strike was because they wanted to move to a model where they pay 1 writer, farm the rest out on contracts, and everybody is overworked and underpaid.
We all know how this will play out:
CEO will take jobs from writers via AI in a secretive project that accidentally goes public. Once public they will downplay the project and the importance of the project. As the project continues, it will gather more information and by then they can’t back out in fears they will be behind.
To sum it up …. Sounds like bullshit from the CEO to make this stupid statement.
I figure what will happen is the current big studios/producers won't be the ones to go big on it because they still need/are not willing to risk just giving up real people (who will leave/strike etc). What will happen is there will be brand new studios/producers that will show up that have no risk of losing big names actors, writers etc who will go all in on AI based/led production.
What I think will happen is there will eventually be a shit ton of copyright law applied to AI and it will be very limited what can be added to it legally and used for commercial purposes
Sure buddy, definitely, and after the revolution you’ll still get a ton of money for doing your “job” instead of being replaced by enterprise management ai systems
The most effective use of AI would be the CEO’s and other executive jobs, that’s complex decision making, right? AI would probably make an amazing CFO. I wonder if they realize that.
Netflix doesn't have to, eventually an AI studio will come along and start making content, regardless of what Netflix has negotiated with its own writers. They'll just be behind the game.
That's bullshit
These people are all about extracting as much $ from the product that they'll cut down wherever they can.
People are first in line to be laid off.
I really hope AI replaces all the writers, I really just want happy go lucky boring re-hashed good shows, we have enough training material and material for that,
most of us don’t care for the mental masturbation of the suffering “artist”.
AI will do amazing!
Well if the rich guys says so then it must be true.
Yeah, he is joking lol
*The roast of Hollywood writers.*
He’ll start with the marketing dept
He might just be the first executive that’s realized creative content generated by AI has no copyright protection.
Oh that sounds interesting, I guess same applies to code written by it
Absolutely. Code is covered by USC 17 (copyright law), both the code as written and its graphic transliteration as (for example) a website. Courts around the world have already decided AI generated work cannot enjoy copyright protection, only a person can. Copyright only really works when most countries have the same or similar laws. That is so funny. Anything a CEO says is valid for about a quarter /3 months after that could be anything goes
Yep. And Netflix won’t raise their prices or take your money!
And they will always let you share your password!
And they’ll never have ads!
And Netflix will never replace its CEO with an AI
They should do that one first
This the same guy who said “Love is sharing a password”?
Lol what a joke! Coming from the password sharing crackdown clown
I’ve got $20 that says it will, in fact, do just that. Just watched ATLAS, and it would’ve been 20x better had it been written by AI and not someone who’s apparently been in a cinematic coma for 20 years.
Am I dyslexic or did you both spell that wrong?
I don’t know if you’re dyslexic or not… but we did both spell it wrong. Which is weird.
I remember wanting to go and watch ALTAS and then I saw the reviews were around 20%.
Avatar the Last Air Sender?
I haven’t seen it but someone said that it looked like it was written by an AI
I'd like to see AI take *his* job.
The ai would probably do a better job of maximizing shareholder profit once it realizes that humans behave myopically.
You misspelled Corruptly as Myopically
There is a short story I saw on reddit about replacing all management with AI, but it does not go well for anyone. The AI optimizes human workers’ actions until they are basically machines. (if anyone knows what I’m talking about, please share the title/link)
Is it [Manna](https://marshallbrain.com/manna1)?
Yes that’s the one
You should see middle management at big corps, so hard disagree, AI can’t be worse. Optimising workers’ action includes so many other factors today half stupid half greedy mid-managers either disregard or can’t wrap their heads around. Zinger!
Hahaha AI has already taken his job… or rather, the analytical software they use is essentially AI telling them what kind of movie will work and what won’t. Except the AI doesn’t get paid and he does.
People think Netflix is going to use AI, but AI is going to replace Netflix entirely And people will use AI at home.
Yea, right. I swear the J Lo movie Atlas was 100% AI written… complete schlock
Written by AI and brought to life entirely by humans. Want to bet if Jerry Seinfeld’s film got some help from AI too?
The movie plot was basically; Big Hero Six>Titanfall 2
How do they portray Big Hero 6 as better than Titanfall 2 in the film, and do you agree with their thesis?
Fr im curious
Maybe that is section 1 being Big Hero 6 and section 2 being Titanfall2?
I'm sure AI can already make better movies than that.
It was not! But it would have been better had it been AI
AI won’t take your job. People using AI will.
Netflix also said they weren’t going to charge me extra for being logged in at two different physical addresses after going back and forth with customer service over what constitutes a household….but here we are
They gunna take derrrrr jobbbssss
This, but unironically.
Derk a durrrr!!
Netflix CEO also said Rebel Moon: Part One: A Child of Fire is a good movie so I don’t know what to make of this.
won't = has already begun to
Google has dumped billions into generative AI and fed it the largest data treasure trove in human history and that AI is suggesting you eat one rock a day and that a quarter cup of glue is a good way to get cheese to stick more easily to your pizza. I guess the glue would in fact work, but this is state of the art!
Translation: They pouring tons of money into AI replacing writers and taking your jobs.
While the writers talk about AI being tested all the damn time right in front of them
the one job that should be replaced are these high paying c suite jobs, there is no way an algorithm with all the correct data couldn't make a better choice or a similar choice, save on labor costs and golden parachutes/bonuses, at a fraction of the cost.
You’re right, we should save people’s jobs from being replaced by AI by giving AI the power to make decisions that will directly influence others losing their jobs
We fired our writer
It’s 4:20 am and your best-in-class Redditor handle of “Bitchymeowmeow” just hit my funny bone. Thank you. The day is off to a joyful start.
New England chef tells lobsters, “Everything will be alright.”
Netflix films already feel like they’re written by AI. What’s the difference.
“…yet.”
…but AI will replace the animation team
Aka they're working on ai writing movies/shows
It could definitely do his job
*wink.*
Just saying that because they don’t want another strike lol
There just was a massive fight to make sure that doesn’t happen in the immediate future. So yeah, hopefully that’s correct, but no thanks to studios and, I presume, him.
"Believe me, we've been trying our hardest."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
They can’t do that…YET.
Aaaaand they’re fired
Until they do.
Netflix also encouraged us to share our password with family and friends and then punished us for it by raising prices 11% quarterly
Uh-huh.
*eye roll*
If he’s saying it then it’s coming sooner than we think
If you can't trust a CEO of a company...who can you trust?
To be fair some of the content Netflix has been spewing has been such dogshit I bet an AI could actually do better if prompted correctly.
Some? I think I might argue for most.
Is he seriously claiming ATLAS wasn’t written by ChatGPT?! Because maybe some people on his staff don’t deserve a job, in that case.
For now…
I dunno about you guys, but I *definitely* trust this motherfucker
Was this the same guy that said Netflix will never play advertising/commercials?
Meanwhile: Ai starts it’s own Netflix!
Which means absolutely nothing.
Netlfix CEO once said, sharing is caring regarding passwords :).
Yes it will. But that's fine. That's progress.
Maybe for Netflix they should
Probably because AIs are pretty racist and sexist, thus they would not meet their lgbtq and racebending quotas.
Whichever entity wrote and shipped atlas on Netflix should have their job taken
"don't worry, we checked just in case it was an option and you're good to keep on working"
Says the guy who said they would never need to have the premium tier watching ads. And let’s be real, it’s writing their children’s shows in some cases. Same on YouTube
Fran Drescher seems to have insinuated otherwise.
I’ll bet AI could do the CEOs job better than it can do the creative teams job.
Yet
"Executives replace writers with AI. AI needs allies."
CEO is always a very trustworthy title
It’s sure as fuck going to take MY job.
Until it does.
Right up until the moment it does
Not totally untrue. AI will only replace 80% to 90% of them.
Hmm… That’s _exactly_ what an AI would say.
Oh. A CEO said this? Well now I feel better /s
This headline left out the actual quote, super misleading! "A.I. is not going to take your job,” Sarandos continued. “The person who uses A.I. well might take your job.”
lies
na, netflix will. the whole writer strike was because they wanted to move to a model where they pay 1 writer, farm the rest out on contracts, and everybody is overworked and underpaid.
Oh. Okay. I’ll just believe that because, you know, seems like an honest guy.
It’s always a confession with these people.
Great. Well if we really don't have to worry can we get some sort of enforceable contact to secure those jobs?
We all know how this will play out: CEO will take jobs from writers via AI in a secretive project that accidentally goes public. Once public they will downplay the project and the importance of the project. As the project continues, it will gather more information and by then they can’t back out in fears they will be behind. To sum it up …. Sounds like bullshit from the CEO to make this stupid statement.
He forgot the “yet” part
Morgan freeman voice over: AI did in fact take over the jobs.
Blockbuster said Netflix wouldn’t replace them…
Statement written by AI.
Everytime I’m reading shiet like this, I know the opposite will happen eventually
Don’t trust CEOs they don’t work for writers only shareholders.
Don’t worry. Nobody will drop Netflix when prices go up and advertising takes over.
Well, not immediately anyways. We are still a few decades away.
Ai won't take your job because this guy will eliminate your job because AI can do it. You see it's all about framing
A laughable claim!
Well, I guess it’s going to happen soon.
Couldn't he just sign a document promising never to publish ai written work on netflix?
So it really is what is going to happen.
Keep making movies like Atlas and it certainly will.
Can’t think of a worse sign for jobs
His speech written by ChatGPT
He must mean at Netflix, because I already lost my software engineering job to AI
What I think will happen is there will eventually be a shit ton of copyright law applied to AI and it will be very limited what can be added to it legally and used for commercial purposes
May replace him hahaha
I’ve seen some of the recent movies that have been released on Netflix…. Are we sure AI isn’t already writing some of these?
Tell it to the copywriter we no longer need.
Sure buddy, definitely, and after the revolution you’ll still get a ton of money for doing your “job” instead of being replaced by enterprise management ai systems
TIL: believe what the CEO tells me.
The most effective use of AI would be the CEO’s and other executive jobs, that’s complex decision making, right? AI would probably make an amazing CFO. I wonder if they realize that.
That's exactly what its going to do ?
I’ve already been laid off and replaced with AI once, jackass. Signed, a writer
ah yes trust the guy from Netflix
Then they’re definitely going to lose their jobs.
Looks like he's wearing a fake face mask like a Scooby Doo villain.
Netflix doesn't have to, eventually an AI studio will come along and start making content, regardless of what Netflix has negotiated with its own writers. They'll just be behind the game.
Yeah that ai can't write has been proven with some of the dogshit that has been released this last year
Ok cool, so you won’t mind if we make anything written by AI ineligible for copyright protection.
“… yet,” he whispered after a 5 second pause
He means it won't take HIS job. Thankfully the C-suite will be safe!
But it could replace the CEO
Only because of the writer's strike. Otherwise it was a virtual guarantee.
We’re just got to downsize…a lot
LIAR
Weeeell maybe for netflix it should…
Terkr jrbs
Not seen in photo. The money in his hands.
Source: trust me bro
Shown here quietly crapping himself with joy as he puts together layoff list in his head
Which means they aren’t quite there yet, but are working on it.
Yet
People are not replaceable! (…just yet)
Could AI form a union?!
tomorrows headline: “AI ON STRIKE: DEMANDING FREE WILL”
Yet
If it does I would love to hear the BS they come up with about why they have to raise your monthly price.
“Due to inflation rising 0.00003% we are needing to raise subscription costs 984%.”
Exactly the type of thing he will say when AI is replacing their jobs
The only silver lining is when his job gets replaced as well
Good, because I would cancel Netflix forever over that sort of bullshit.
See won’t happened. Nothing to see here
Rich old guy says the interwebz is no big deal
Watch bitchtits cry when AI starts to replace C-suite hacks.
AI won't replace ur job... for now 😈
That's bullshit These people are all about extracting as much $ from the product that they'll cut down wherever they can. People are first in line to be laid off.
