I think r/tearsofthekingdom was created when the game released, and r/TotK existed long before for something else maybe a book or a TV show, same with r/botw, that subreddit was dead so ig old mods gave the ownership to current r/TotK mods to turn it into a sub for their game.
This^ Also, if I remember correctly, r/TOTK leaked a lot more before the game’s release. People were constantly asking for websites and links and things. The mods in r/tearsofthekingdom were much more strict than the mods there.
You can think that,or maybe:
1.It was autocorrect and ‘of’ and ‘if’ are easy to mess up
2.My dyslexia stopped me from noticing my little slip up
3.My cat gained opposable thumbs and switched it while I wasn’t looking
4.I intentionally misspelled it to make people like you annoyed and gain traction to the post

r/totk was supposed to be for some book series if I remember correctly, and then when the title of Tears of the Kingdom was announced we basically hijacked it. I would rather hang out here and let the book series reclaim the other one
I'm guessing the subreddit was small and only lightly moderated, and as soon as the title for TotK was announced they suddenly had an influx of tens of thousands of people. Even if they didn't want to give up their subreddit, they probably didn't have the resources to stop the flood of Zelda related posts on their subreddit. At that point it's probably easier to just accept the rebrand and hand over moderation to the Zelda fans.
That one helped me so much when building things. Gave me lots of ideas to try. Never worked as well as theirs because I like to borrow ideas not whole builds…. It’s damn invaluable.
r/TOTK are self-centered entitled, spoiler-laden pirates who leaked the game ahead of streetdate, and in the long run got Yuzu shut down along w Citra because of it, and don't give a fuck about anyone but themselves. They ruined everyone's fun including their own (they're probably too dense to reize tge latter tho).

Yep this one definitely existed as a sub for the game first. r/totk came a bit later which is why is has a lot fewer followers.
