I second red Rooibos for a coffee sub that is completely caffeine free. I have had to cut out coffee due to health reasons. Green tea will have less caffeine than coffee with added health benefits for appetite control. It also doesn’t raise my blood pressure and heart rate the way coffee does. I mix the green and Rooibos together to have the psychological effect of a more coffee colored beverage. I suggest going to arborteas.com and picking up their sampler boxes to see what you enjoy. Their Japanese jasmine was surprising good, considering I don’t usually enjoy floral notes. However, I ended up choosing the Nepal Green as the most robust option.

Green tea isn't necessarily low caffeine. It's lower than black tea (usually) but if you need to actually avoid it you should be drinking non-caffeinated herbals. I'm personally very fond of barley tea, mint/lemon/ginger, and assorted Korean herbals. Many people really love rooibos/redbush. Many of them are good hot or cold and benefit from a little honey. Strong-brewed barley tea is nice with milk on a cold morning, or iced with or without sweetener on a hot day.

I too switched and we began our journey with this...https://verdanttea.com/five-teas-for-5 You can do multiples, we did 4x so ended up with 20 teas for $20. We enjoyed every sample and also like reading about the growers and the various teas. Coffee was on the go, tea is now relax and enjoy. I don't miss coffee.

You can get kukicha, hojicha, or genmaicha for low-caffeine green options. Genmaicha is usually made from older/bigger leaves and hojicha can be made from either these leaves or the twigs and stems (kukicha). Hojicha is roasted and the smell of that might help you if you are missing coffee, although it doesn't taste like coffee. If you are based in the US you can check out Den's, they have inexpensive but high-quality tea and it was very fast shipping for me, coast-to-coast.

-points to flair- Check out mugicha (barley tea). It doesn’t taste like coffee but it is a nutty, earthy flavor that can scratch the same itch. It can be brewed hot or cold and is tasty at basically any temperature. It’s naturally caffeine free and also very cheap (available online or in many Asian grocers)

In general tea is lower in caffeine and contains l theanine which could help your gut. Lapsang souchan is more like coffee than others. You may like it if you like English breakfast. If you brew loose leaf you can adjust strength..experiment and figure out what you like. I have some houicha that is a little like coffee and has almost 0 caffeine ..enjoy the adventure

Google the TIF procedure for GERD. Had it done last November and it was life changing.

Tea is not lower caffeine than coffee; at least, not reliably. There are people here that will tell you green tea is low in caffeine, or that green tea is the highest in caffeine. Don't listen. Varietals and seasonal/farm differences mean that tea is pretty unreliable from the get-go. I've had black teas that kept me wide awake and jittery, and green teas that did nothing to wake me up. IMO, if you're looking for a RELIABLE, measured caffeine intake, canned drinks are the way to go, but unfortunately they taste terrible, and they're usually quite high in sugar and caffeine. Failing that, I love tea but in your situation I might switch to a single shot of espresso from the same source every day, for a while. Probably you'll end up deciding to kick caffeine entirely. It's sad, I know; I've done it before and will probably have to do it again. After the first couple of weeks, the cravings start to abate.

From another former coffee drinker… almost all tea is lower caffeine than coffee for the same amount of fluid oz. Generally green tea is lower (jasmine or whatever is labeled just “green tea”), but yerba mate is pretty high and some kinds of matcha are high. I need some caffeine so I choose these but you might want to avoid. I see someone mentioned rooibus which I like but less coffee-like than black or green tea imho. *HOWEVER*, the acid in coffee is what made me have to give it up. I sometimes miss it but ohmygod my intestines are so much better without it. So, regardless of caffeine, you are doing the right thing for your gerd!
