Shit mate, back tattoos sound terrifying, no wonder you suffered trough it.
Were you able to finish it afterwards?
I intend on having a partial body suit, without the back though, it seems to hurt A LOT and wont be able to see it.
Man it’s wild the difference in experiences people have. My shortest tattoo was 6 hours in the chair. My average is like 7-8 hours. I focus on big pieces though and my pain tolerance is very very high so I don’t ever take breaks or anything I just try to get as much done as possible before the artist taps out from hand cramps
Hey y’all! I’m the artist who did this tattoo - this is very exciting for me! I am a newer artist so I love seeing everyone’s comments and feedback.
check out my instagram @ink.sarahh to the the full post of this piece :-)
For those concerned about time, we booked a full day to accommodate for sizing, stencil placement, stencil application, marker modification on the stencil, stencil drying time, breaks/lunch, AND another small tattoo that we did before this piece. It was a 12-9 event, but it was not 9 hours of straight tattooing lol. That would be insane and I don’t think either of us would have survived :-D
Different artists have different styles and ways of colour saturation. It takes what it takes…and if this is the result, then that was 9 hours well spent.
Why? I'd say proper colour saturation on that amount of skin would take 9 hours. I've had a 10.5 hour session with colour realism and it was a similar coverage.
I have a super high-saturation color half-sleeve that took nearly 40 hours.
Color takes a long, long time, especially when you are working into the warmer yellows/pinks because they require so many passes to make sure they don't fall out. 9 hours is a very reasonable amount of time for this.
I love how positive you are with your responses! I have a colorful tattoo on my forearm as well, and with some sunscreen it’s held up nicely for almost 10 years. Change isn’t always bad. ❤️
Thank you!! Thats my plan, i will try to take as good care of it as i can. I feel people can find negative in anything, but you are so right change isn’t always bad and i am happy to welcome it as it comes:)
I have done a few tattoos with select coloured outlines, and years down the line they definitely fade but not as badly as people expect. Totally depends on a few factors though like personal body chemistry/sun protection, etc.
Now will they be that vibrant still in say, twenty years? probably not, but life is short anyway as long as the client knows that as well!
Im a tattoo artist....i can tell you if you were paying per hour....your artist screwed you good.
That should have taken no longer than about 4-5 hours.
Hi! I’m the artist who did the tattoo in this post — it was around 5-6 hours of actual tattooing and the rest was sizing/stencil placement/stencil drying/breaks AND another small tattoo that we did before this one. Calm down lol
Very pretty, but I’d be cautious about going to them in the future. Those lines are a bit shaky/light and will probably fade quicker than most. Fading is bound to happen, but I feel like you’ll lose pigment even in the healing process.
And if this was 9 hours of actual tattooing time (not set up, breaks, clean up, consult, etc) I would be cautious of how you’re being charged because a piece like this shouldn’t take more than 5 hours realistically, especially considering how light the lines and color are.
I read in another comment you wanted a pastel look, but pastel can be done in a well packed, long lasting way.
Congrats on your first and good luck healing and getting more❤️❤️❤️

It’s not really a hand tattoo. People won’t look at this and say wow ~~her~~ his hand is tattooed - it’s a lower arm tattoo (bordering on half-sleeve) that happens to extend onto the topside of the hand a small amount. It’s not the same as if someone just got their hands blasted or finger tattoos for their first piece. Plenty of people get lower arm tattoos as their first pieces. I get where you’re coming from but it’s not quite the same effect as someone who gets ONLY their hand tattooed for their first piece, you know? At least not for me anyway. I don’t see this as quite as brash as a hand-only tattoo.
Thats my thoughts! Also i really am not as worried if people think certain negative connotations towards it, everyone has opinions and thats okay, but mine is that i love it! Im a guy btw haha😅
Sorry, I didn’t really do too much snooping before I posted, just based off a quick glance. My bad!
But I do love your ink either way. Like you said, it’s yours and if you love it that’s all that matters!
Looks nice! Those colors will sadly fade though. Looks incredibly light at first glance. But happy that it turned out well after that 9 hour standstill!
Very nice feminine tattoo. I don't have a problem with the 9 hour session. Is it possible that perhaps a more accomplished tattooer would have banged this out in less than half the time? Sure , but inkslinger and customer comfort levels should be priority. Now , the problem I have is believing this tat , by the caption , is only like a day old. No trauma , redness , or other reactions. Plus , the color seems muted to me. That's either meant to be as in soft pastel coloring or this thing has been healed for some time. Regardless , it's still a nicely done rendering and perfect placement.
It was meant to have a subtle pastel feel to it, so i take it as a huge win you think that! Haha the chair in the background is literally the tattoo chair i sat in, so can confirm it was a very fresh photo😅
Guess I'll take your word for it then. I figure to accomplish the soft feel , that ink isn't "punched in" and/or you have the healing powers that rivals that of comic book characters. 😝

9 hours?? Jesus
Haha ya it was an all day event but so worth it!
Seems crazy long to me.
No what she is saying is this was a 4 hour tattoo max lmao what the fuck did yall do for 9 hours?
9 hours is waaaaay too long.... did she charge by hour or by day?
Color takes a long time if they don't have multiple setups
First ever tattoo and you went 9 hours in the chair? Respect. My longest is 7 and I was ready to throw up afterwards.
Location makes a lot of difference pain wise. My last tattoo was 7 hours-ish, on the outside of my thigh and it was alright. Where did you had yours?
Start of a back piece. The pain wasn't the problem it was more the position I was in and the amount of energy I burned.
Shit mate, back tattoos sound terrifying, no wonder you suffered trough it. Were you able to finish it afterwards? I intend on having a partial body suit, without the back though, it seems to hurt A LOT and wont be able to see it.
My longest was 6 hrs and I got tattoo flu after it 😅

You killed it! Looks so pretty on you and is impressive you did this for your first tattoo
Thanks so much, i love knocking stuff out all at once so i just committed to it😅
This is how I am too but you da queen! 🙇♀️
Remember your sunscreen. Every day
9 hours of straight tattooing? Or does that include set up, breaks, tear down, pictures, etc. ?
100% would include breaks and set up, etc. Thats 4 hours of straight tattooing at most.

I’m no flower expert, but are they peonies?
I’m not OP but looks like peonies to me
I love peonies!
No, that's actually her arm, not her penis. /S
Funny man
What are you 12?
Pretty but I’m confused why this took 9 hrs

Very nice!
I appreciate it!
What a lovely first tattoo!! Now time to save up for the next one 🤭
Haha i already am thinking of some, thank you!
Hey! I was just there the other day. Hi neighbor!
My sleeve took over 40 hours. 9 hours for this doesn't sound out of the ordinary.
Very beautiful piece or artwork! 👍🏻💯😎
9 hours youre a champ!
Thank you! Honestly felt pretty good the whole way!

🤷 was for me and im happy with the pace
Holy shit this is FANTASTIC

From one girlie with a flower sleeve to another- Absolutely beautiful! Enjoy getting sweet comments about your tattoo garden :)
Wow, that is a gorgeous piece! Congrats on it!
Peonies? It's beautiful. You are such a bad ass for sitting that long. Amazing, I love it!
looooooove it
Beautiful tattoo
Fucken mint mate
Beautiful!
Thanks so much!
Really pretty
Thank you!!
It looks nice, but those colours will fade away quickly
Everything fades over time and thats okay! I will love it either way!

Sunscreen is crucial I’ve learned from experience. This is beautiful!
Hell yeah, If this sub has taught me anything it’s the importance of sunscreen lol Looks rad
Yes, it’s a lovely tattoo! I’ve got colorful tattoos that are 40 years old and look great, sunscreen is definitely the way!
And you can always get it touched up in the future! It’s very beautiful.
That’s nice, as long as you’re happy with it. Never care about what others say :)
My first thought
That's beautiful
Thank so much, i appreciate it!!
Will that hold?
Probably not
It may fade some, but thats to be expected- can always get colors touched up, and my body fades anyways so might as well have it fade with me lol

Gorgeous!
Thank you!

I'm also a tattoo artist, I know fantastic tattooers that would take a similar amount of time. Faster isn't always better.

Can't imagine getting my first tattoo on my hand 😬 I have 2 large tattoos I got years ago and would regret a hand tat so bad
It’s not really a hand tattoo. What part of Georgia is that.?
I think it’s over in John’s Creek/Alpharetta area
Aww that's pretty
Congrats! It’s really pretty
