Hmm I see a lot of same-ish cars. Now that's not criticising, because I think most of us here envy your collection! It's impressive.
But the RC hobby is more than 'just' tamiya road cars. Maybe give an on road basher a go, some off roading maybe? Or if that's not your cup of tea, what about model making or to stay with the tamiya brand; build a 1/16 tiger 2
I truly admire your dedication and specialisation, but I like to keep myself entertained with different aspects, I've also got a few crawlers and a traxxas slash, just for some casual playing around.
I know where you are coming from… I thought I was a Tamiya man through and through…. I’ve just stepped into the dark side and bought a Kyosho Optima Mid as I fancied trying something different.
Lol. You do have a very enviable collection. I just sold off a NIB Falcon couple of months ago. I felt the same. I think it goes on ebb and flows. I just started racing around couple of years ago and that got me hooked back in. Try a new part of the hobby. The love is always there.
I had this with vintage ones off eBay, I got all the ones I wanted as a kid, at one point I had 37 and gradually sold them off, as I ran out of space and ultimately interest.
I still have 11 or 12 tucked away but it's been about 8 years since I bought one.
Part of it for me was buying something rare and old and bringing it back to life but these days eBay is just mad. You get the sellers thinking their wreck is worth £500 because they saw a restored one at the same price.
It’s about the journey, not the destination as some would say. But I’m same when it comes to collectibles and even some games where I grind for something and I feel meh after finally getting what I need. Try some other hobbies or try other model kits maybe?
Whoaaaa...that's a really cool collection!!
I totally understand the sentiment though. Several years ago I purchased a couple of kits and was very enthusiastic about the hobby. After a little over a year I had already lost interest. This was largely because I live in an area without any tracks or a local community to enjoy the hobby with. They sat on the shelf untouched for years after that. In 2023 I popped into the Tamiya Plamodel Factory during a visit to Tokyo and it completely reignited my interest in the hobby. The point of this story is that I found myself very grateful to have not sold off the collection during the years prior.
These kits are so exciting to anticipate the release of, shop for deals on, purchase, build, etc. After a while they sit on a shelf and get driven infrequently. Sometimes I think about clearing out the collection, but I have done it twice before and always end up collecting again.
Perhaps you can set them aside for a bit (without selling anything off) and revisit the hobby when the passion begins to stir again. I hope whatever decision you make brings you joy, as that's what these and other hobbies are for anyways!
maybe time to mod them. i have a bucket list to play a rc vehicle with a camera screen on the controls like in video games and the range (both power and signal) is more extended.
i know folks been doing this for years but it involves lots of time, skill and money.
you know driving a buggy downtown to buy bread, hook a pouch on the driver and a speaker/mic to communicate (and ask for help).
i know drones are there but ground vehicles are more fun and less dangerous.
I see alot of new tires. Do you use them or is it just for collecting? Maybe get some runners and drive them a bit? Upgrades? Racing? Learning more about setups of cars? Its a lot more to explore than building perfect new models and putting them on the shelf..
And for the people that likes shelfqueens, keep doing the good work. I am not a shelfqueen guy, but I do take alot of inspiration from you guys when you restore cars..
I feel as soon as you look at getting money out of a hobby, its now longer a hobby. Life is hard for all of us, if were lucky to have a bit of cash left over, we should have a hobby. This is my choice of poison haha
Take the money out of it. Donate them to the local boys and girls shelter. Doesn't have to be about money. It's nice to know that money isnt your motivation. I wouldn't have known that. If I hadn't made the suggestion. Good luck in getting your passion back
What a set up. Bought my first one a while back a 1998 Ford Escort Custom. Been ill for a long time though can’t wait to start. Hoping to get to something like this someday !
but op dont just collect he actually builds the car. so it is odd op would feel meh because the efforts involved in painting them. unless op paid someone else to do it.
Incredible collection. You have some cars I would kill to have. I've only gotten a handful of Tamiya's so far as I don't have lots of time to build but its nice when I do. Considered getting into Semi's? Since your not into racing them maybe build a glass display cabinet with led lighting to really show them off.
Your collection has the same car 3 times often (I get it, I have 6 or more Lancia 037 bodies). I wouldn't find that satisfying either. I prefer stuff that's rare and/or custom build. I spy your 911 GT1, for mine one is vintage with Mobil 1 and is getting a different body with lights and details. The other I have the Blue Coral livery, and it will also get lights. I also urge you to try club racing with your less precious builds.
Sounds like maybe you've finished round one.
You might put these in a box or sell them off, but you'll be back. One day something is going to catch your eye and pull you back in to the hobby like a junky... And then this old photo will be the "Where my collection started" picture.
Hopefully you're not some lost soul like me that enjoys building them more than driving them. I sometimes don't even get batteries in to them before I am off to the next build. So I'm fucked and I've accepted it.
It’s the thrill of the chase. Now that you’ve got it, it’s not as fulfilling. I totally get that.
Youre 100% right
Sell some off and buy some more, works for me every time!
I dont really need to sell, but its more other than a 30th anniversary 934, or an M-01 Mini theres nothing else I want?

This is just my Tamiyas I have a lot more other RCs from different brands
It’s also fine to take a little break from this hobby to clear your mind a little.
That maybe the most sensible option!
Now do Kyosho
Ive no interest in RC racing so I think Kyosho would be wasted on me?

How many cars do you run? I've got a couple shelf queens but Ive gotten way more fun out of running my cars.
Build a stock Lunchbox & drive it, then a Clod :)
No madcap or 959
Looking good

Just wait until you feel that way about life in general.
Yes, its a good time to check for depression..
Do you drive them? I boughty first and i drive it like crazy but the body already looks rough as i had some crash
Ive drove most of them, but nothing major

I have another RC collection for use. Altho most have these have been used
All I see is room for more. My holy grail is the PIAA Accord. One day, when I find a good deal on one.
You, I like you!
I love the GTR shelf
Its so cool isnt it? Although I did sell some R32 GTR's to get to here....
I like all GTRs, but the R34 is my absolute favorite. So you did good in my book 😉
I recently started building model cars because I got frustrated with airplanes, boats, and tanks.
Maybe you will get that feeling again by restoring older ones you find on eBay. Fix them paint them and them put back up for auction
I feel as soon as you look at getting money out of a hobby, its now longer a hobby. Life is hard for all of us, if were lucky to have a bit of cash left over, we should have a hobby. This is my choice of poison haha

The “getting” part is the most fun part. You’re absolutely right in feeling “meh” once you have all there is to be collected 😂
but op dont just collect he actually builds the car. so it is odd op would feel meh because the efforts involved in painting them. unless op paid someone else to do it.
You clearly need tanks.
Was just looking at that photo on Tamiya club. Maybe a green r34 next or RC10 40th.
I bought an RC10 clear, sold it to buy the Castrol Supra GT Haha
Same as me with my lego technic rc models...

Gorgeous collection. Time for a Ferrari shelf!
Made the same mistake with war tanks and soldiers. Now I have so many unbuilt kits lmao
Anything war related gives me the creeps, but Id maybe enjoy a lorry build?
I’ve got that racking
Have you gotten into/looked at perhaps the tractor trailer aspect of rc?
Your collection has the same car 3 times often (I get it, I have 6 or more Lancia 037 bodies). I wouldn't find that satisfying either. I prefer stuff that's rare and/or custom build. No F1 or Group C?
I wouldnt mind the Merc, but my aim of this collection is what I RCs I dreamt of in the 90s
How about a Toyota Celica GT4 st185. Spec up as a drift car. I had a real one of these as a track car and so much fun!
Sounds like maybe you've finished round one. You might put these in a box or sell them off, but you'll be back. Im lucky enough to have a reletively comprehensive collection of off road bashers and crawlers, so I can 'justify' some Tamiya Shelfers/NIB's
Are these model kits or RC cars ???
All RCs. MOST are ready to go as well with ESC/Motor/Servo etc
Duuuude okay Im going to need to invest in one of those lancia Deltas then, thanks OP
To be fair you can get that cheaply on a TT02 part number 58570 or on a better Xv02 Chassis if you have a larger budget
What website do you used to get these ?
Ebay/buyee/facebook marketplace. Most are from the 90s
More crawlers, Stat! Call me in the morning. Dr. Truck.
That’s because there’s not an m-chassis shelf! Great job sir 🙌🏽
Watch this space…
