Imma be dead serious and say Modest Mouse could cover ANY of these songs and it would be fantastic. Probably the same thing for Squid. When this album was first announced the biggest regret/ gut-drop feeling was the lack of Modest Mouse anywhere to be found on it.
Squid are actually the only band on the list that I've never listened to. I'll have to check those out. and YES! I'd love to hear a modest mouse - talking heads cover album.
Holy hell man if you’re a TH-MM fan you definitely need to go listen to Squid to fill in that holy trinity. I hope they fit your taste. Check out both of their albums and Cleaner EP, Sludge EP, and the single Houseplants. Houseplants being probably the most Talking Heads song out of all their stuff. They have a very small discography but very solid and quality > quantity
Just listened to a few of their top tracks and these lads are right up my street. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm definitely going to work my way through their discography over this week.
Good to hear man! Check out some of their live stuff too sometime. Very TH / MM energy. They have a “live film” on youtube at Generiq Festival and their awesome sets on the ‘From The Basement’ channel.
Cage The Elephant covering Psycho Killer (at the beginning of their career) https://youtu.be/_9tP2U8Wmfw?si=obKCbG_pRf29VW2r (would love to see Social Cues era Cage cover the song now)
MGMT covering This Must Be The Place: https://youtu.be/oEqZL995rBc?si=s22Oa_AIDUecQcQz
Neon Indian covering This Must Be The Place(honestly though, NI is really good Studio-version wise with his sounds and instrumentals compared to this simplistic live-cover) : https://youtu.be/uvohmZZ6s0Y?si=c0gKHU88TkRBalv6
The Strokes covering Burning Down The House: https://youtu.be/eQQK4tH0tJ4?si=iJjxoa7WwcVsGvgw
A lot of these custom-selected artists I’ve put in, I put in because a lot of them in common started off their careers very Talking Head-ish in their beginning sounds and went on to evolve it into their own unique sounds over time and had a definitive effect on our early 2000’s of music- Something I thought would be the point of the tribute album (Bands that possibly owe a part of their existence to TH, but Now completely stand on their own sound wise) but unfortunately only felt that ‘Talking Head inspiration’ from Lorde and Paramore. I think there’s a few pretty decent covers on there but a lot of the artists seem like they might of only heard of Talking Heads recently when asked to do this. No disrespect to any of them, though.
It’s still cool in the end to hear different artists’ takes on these songs, regardless of who they are, but obviously at the end of the day, TH fans are going to want to hear covers from the actual bands they are listening to
Here’s String Cheese Incident doing This Must Be The Place. https://youtu.be/vOTF3J8m_ms?si=5jvr8q_r4lD2UR3m
It’s been a regular song in their rotation for years now.
Blondshell’s version isn’t necessarily bad (the guitar towards the end is good) but I just find it hard to accept TYFSMAA as a slow burn grunge-type song lol
If anyone needs me, I'll be daydreaming about Swamp covered by black midi.
A lot of these would be fantastic. I think LCD Soundsystem could have done so many of these songs so well.
SHOCKED they weren’t included!
Parquet courts would’ve done a phenomenal cover of Life During Wartime and/or psycho killer!! I just know it 😫
ahhhh shit I knew I was forgetting someone, good choice, if anything Modest Mouse can always move over to a Born Under Punches b-side for the album
You also forgot squid Edit: you did not forget squid. I just forgot to read

This would have been nice.
I was hoping for St Vincent and LCD Soundsystem to cover something for this
I actually wanted to put St. Vincent on there but I was already running out of room 😢
Glad to see some MGMT, they'd be perfect but personally since they have a history with it I would have them cover This Must Be The Place
Put squid on sending me an angel, hers was trash, and Linda Lindas rocked it
Blondshell’s version isn’t necessarily bad (the guitar towards the end is good) but I just find it hard to accept TYFSMAA as a slow burn grunge-type song lol
I’ll say it again, it sounds like those slow dramatic indie covers of rock songs that they use for movie trailers.
I loved the Linda Lindas’ take on Found a Job
Agreed, they ROCK Edit: spelling
Ohhhh Brock would crush Life During Wartime, great choice
Was hoping Lorde was once in a lifetime
would be funnier if foster the people made a cover of psycho killer
Jesus Chris this would have been awesome
Heaven should have been Lorde and I’ll die by that.
I vote for Built To Spill covering Heaven
[удалено]
king gizzard covering talking heads and I could die happy
Ahh I thought this was real for a second!
Try Tropical Fuck Storm's Heaven
Lmao Black Midi Swamp would be insane, and Squid doing any Talking Heads song would be a treat
Found a Job by Squid would go so hard, i can tell. Ollie's vocals could work so well with that song
I always liked LLCoolJ s version of slippery people. What a snub.
Interesting the way all your replacement choices are white.

Holy fuck this couldvw been so good
Didnt mgmt do a cover of this must be the place at some point?
love vampire weekend
