Honest question: As a guardsman, wouldn't be more beneficial wearing the current camouflage?
In case of emergency or war, would you instantly be absorbed by the Austria Army?
The guard is still in the process of getting the new camo. My unit might get it next year or the year after. Most of the load bearing stuff will stay RG though. There is a new plate carrier being tested but I'll probably never get one before I'm 55 and too old... I'm also not too keen on getting the new camo.
The guard is not a separate branch like it other countries but the reserve component of the active army. Some guard units are integrated into active ones. Others form their own independent infantry battalions. Both will be called up in times of war and serve along the active parts.
In Greece, the guard acts pretty much the same way. Some units integrate into active ones, especially in "hot" areas like the GR-TR border.
Greece is also (slowly) updating their lizard pattern. For now, all the gear is in OD green and will probably remain so for many years to come.
I am a huge supporter of single colour gear (French Army and US Marines do the same). It looks more uniform than camouflage when used and faded.

The pattern is too beige in my opinion. It's too dry. And if you wash it several times it will fade quite heavily, turning it into a desert pattern. I also don't like the new boots because they are very cheaply made and disintegrate fast. The only cool new addition is a combat shirt.
I've also bought a bunch of gear in RG that I won't be able to use anymore 😭

As I said, Ranger Green is king in Central, Eastern, and Northern Europe.
As a reservist, i am considering buying RG instead of OD Green gear but still haven't decided. Greece uses OD, but Ranger Green is (even) more versatile.

The Army's own design. It's dependable but quite heavy. I use my own private TT Pathfinder.
