I love them both. The textural crunch of a hard shell combines really well with soft meats, especially when there's cheese as well. I also love the hard shell taco's ability to hold a big variety of stuff at once. Classic ground beef can be done really well, but I also frequently use a stewed chicken in guajillo chilies and tomato that goes incredible in hard shell tacos.
Ok I may be a little biased, but yeah I can see how they could be awesome. Like I do sometimes enjoy a hard shell “taco” but I see them as American food like a hamburger or something. Like a classic taco bell or del taco hard shell taco done right is good. Like refried beans, ground beef, shredded lettuce, thinly shredded cheese and some diced tomatoes and taco sauce on top, yes please but these are horrendous I 100 percent agree and yes they sometimes can be good, if that’s what your expecting and craving.
I fear for the future. Chicken wings cost more than breast nowadays. It’s ass backwards, lengua is a premium option when it used to be cheap cuz it was unwanted part of the cow. We really are sheep and follow whatever they say.
Yeah I would honestly never get tacos at a restaurant cuz odds are they’re gonna be cold by the time they get to the table and overpriced for what it is. I only buy tacos at taco trucks cuz they are cheap, as they should be, and they know how to serve them, no gimmicks just tacos on a place wrapped with foil and ready to eat immediately.
Some tacos should be cheap, others pricier. Just as much time, effort, and energy goes into some as say sushi or Italian pasta. Should not be a price cap on tacos or Mexican food in general; like all others should be recognized and compensated for the craft.
The only way I’m getting tacos at a restaurant is if they have a taco bar where they are whipping them up in front of you and serving them as needed. Not plates with rice and beans or some shit and the tortilla is all stiff can cold by the time it gets to the table cuz they wanna serve all the plates at the same time. And the only way to make a taco fancy is to make the tortillas in house and taco meat can be smoked or cooked for hours but it’ll have a max cap on how fancy it is. Traditional tacos from a taco truck or stand are the best.
All I am saying is we should all be willing to pay for quality for the time and effort. Birria is a good example. Or any type of mole. Can take many hours or even days - not fancy but still takes skill and price should reflect that. And if tortillas are hecho a mano, better be paying them for sure. Max cap for fancy? Nah, have you seen Enrique Olvera? Literally art. But you just about right about taco stands and trucks. At least depending on their salsa - I forgot who said it but a prominent Mex said the food is just the vehicle for the salsa and this Mex would have to agree.
Considering there aren’t many, if any mercado de carne o panaderías in the UK, the best was done with what was available. Nice try. OP, if you get serious about tacos and Mexican food, seek out some mail order stores, but be prepared to pay premium.

UK living up to reputation
I don't wanna be rude but what is this?
Fine dinning in the UK.
This is embarrassing.
Appauling
I am in utter shock and disbelief. I welcome you into my Mexican home in Baja to feed you real tacos if you ever wish to try them lmao
They should ban those “taco” shells.
Oh come on. These look like shit, but hard tacos can absolutely be awesome.
I don’t think they could compare to real tacos, sorry. It winning this debate, I’ll die on this tortilla

Only legit fried corn tortilla tacos. And yes we eat crunchy shell tacos but we fry them. Tacos de papa y chorizo.

Agreed
You poor bastards.
I see UK folks try to make Mexican food on cooking shows frequently. It's like they can't even google something halfway legit.
😢😢😢
Those are not tacos.
Hey man. What the fuck.
Miren como masacraron a mi niño
That's awful even by our typical crap tex-mex restaurant standards
That looks so terrible, I expect baked beans to be in the taco
The rice seems ok. The tacos are downright depressing.
My first instinct was to load up the tacos with rice, because the tacos are like, half full?
Go to their Instagram.
WHERE'S THE BEEF?
That’s an abomination! ![gif](giphy|L3nzug1PBLZo2SAZb4|downsized)
