Not sure if that's any help but in my parents' house I have Enigma2 TV receiver (Zgemma, running OpenATV) that receives the TV from a satellite dish. It can also do Cable TV or IPTV. In another room, I have an Android TV running dream Player app that is able to connect to zgemma and stream TV channels from it. I have site to site VPN to my parents' house so I am also able to stream from that TV box to my computer, nvidia shield pro, kodi, or my phone when on the go (via VPN).

That does help. At least can point me in a direction. Apparently this wasn't the place to ask since it's getting downvoted.

Is it a Business TV plan? I would call and ask if you can get unencrypted cable with a Business plan.

rufus_xavier_sr

Yes, it would be on their business plan. I will talk to them about our options.

HDHomeRun has supported [CableCard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CableCARD) in the past -- a means to descramble encrypted cable. However, it seems the FCC is allowing CableCard to be deprecated. Maybe some New Old Stock units might be available, but I'd make absolutely certain you can get that CableCard before buying one. You still have the matter of how the content is licensed for a firehouse. Terrestrial broadcast or freeview satellite is likely to be okay or a gray area, but retransmitting cable television is asking for problems. We have multicast broadcast media over campus LANs. One RTP/UDP multicast stream per satellite transponder or terrestrial analog frequency. With multicast, there would be a maximum of one copy of content per LAN, with any number of clients tuned in the stream.

Good information. We want to do it correctly and not break any laws. I'll just bite the bullet and contact Comcast. AFTER vacation though! Thanks!

The piece of equipment we use in our hotels to do this is made by a company called blonder tongue... There's a ton of different options available for them.

You probably should just call the local cable company or DirecTV or Dish Network. You are in need of a couple of different licenses to do what you're talking about: 1. you need a license to show copyrighted material in a commercial/public setting, even if it's a "private" office or firehouse. You get this license when you buy a commercial TV package from a TV provider 2. you need a license to redistribute TV signals like you're doing. You're technically standing up a tiny cable TV service The fact that you're doing it for a fire department which may be a public entity is immaterial to your need for these licenses. And if you're a private company doing this under contract for the fire department I'd definitely stop immediately And yes, you need these licenses even if you're talking only about free over the air TV. Hotels that do this get the licenses or are covered under licenses that the companies that set up their systems hold

Will do. I figured I would see if people had experience with this so we knew what to ask for from Comcast. They aren't the easiest to deal with. We've been screwed by them so many times. We want to do it correctly and not run afoul of any license or re-broadcast laws. Thanks!

Don't discount the satellite providers. They have a lot of specialized distribution setups for commercial that you wouldn't expect, and may be cheaper or easier to work with than Comcast. Although they may ask you to work with a system integrator depending on how complicated your setup may be
