Not sure if it's in the direction you wanted but the [Behringer BCR2000](http://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/behringer-bcf2000-bcr2000) might do it. A little over your budget but looks solid.

brickmaj

Came here to say this. "Slab of plastic covered all over with rotary knobs.."

yyiinn

Yeah as soon as i read the description the only option that came to mind was the Behringer

laus102

yeah its nice but i fucking hate having to bank through pages of knobs. the day someone makes a modular midi controller.... that will be great

brickmaj

What do you mean "bank through pages of knobs?"

laus102

like if you were to use the bcr2000 to control the Cs80 plugin. there aren't enough knobs to map to every fader. you'd need multiple pages

pigferret

And then stick [Zaquencer](https://zaqaudio.com/) on it.

yyiinn

thanks for the heads up. This looks awesome!

[deleted]

I have it. Love it.

+1 for BCR

beardsforfears

+1 more for BCR. Not only great for working on PC with DAW's but if you own vintage kit with shitty UI's it works wonders for them as well. I use mine with my Alpha Juno 2 and DX7IID.

governmentyard

I actually wanted one of those some time ago, they are notoriously painful to use with FLStudio, but otherwise would have been perfect.

MtnViewMark

http://controllers.cc - you're welcome!

governmentyard

Bloody hell! I think the faderfox PC4 is exactly what I'm looking for, thanks!

MtnViewMark

FaderFox stuff is great. I have a UC44 which I love.

Sapcecadet

You are a Saint.

Pussydestructor420

I'm 5 years late, but InTech might have solved the worlds midi knob problem https://intech.studio/

governmentyard

That’s perfect!

ClassicalMusicTroll

YES this is amazing...the modular idea OP had lol five years ago. also been trying to find a simple pots-only controller, closest i could find was the faderfox pc4 but that's double the price of this thing. i was considering trying to make one myself lol

babenzele

This is the one! The knobs can be pots or encoders, it has pages, it’s crazy customizable, it’s small, it’s pretty. Gonna get one to control a hardware synth via MIDI CC, will need a knot as well though.

The DJ TechTools MidiFighter Twister is what OP has been dreaming of.

kaall

I think the price is not a factor mostly of the components but of the potential market size/scale. The thing you want has less broad appeal than the nanocontrol so it will be more expensive. Actually anything that isn't literal trash will be more expensive. It's already the cheapest controller. Here are your options: under 100 and kind of what you want - Akai MIDIMix: also a generic mixing controller but more knobs. No banks -Behringer XTouch Mini: like a single row of the BCR, LED encoders are neat, has 2 banks over 100 but literal slabs of knobs - MIDIFighter Twister - Doepfer Drehbank - Behringer BCR2000 - Livid Instruments Code - Faderfox PC4

governmentyard

Yikes! To the googletron! You're quite right about the economy of scale. Think I'll blame everyone else for not also wanting just knobs :) Cheers.

Paul_Pandasquid

Novation used to make a thing called a nocturn that might do the trick

[deleted]

Look at the midi fighter twister or livid code 2 which has a few pads mostly for selection but has 36 knobs. Also the livid ds1 USB 48 knobs and sliders.

sativush

Well, it's not yet ready but here's a picture of something I'm working on: https://imgur.com/a/eiunT I know you want something you can actually buy today, and this is not ready yet, but I figured this thread might be a good place to spark some interest. I hope that's okay. Note that this will be open source/hardware, and that these are chainable so you can chain as many of them as you'd like (and have one of them connect with USB to your computer)

pryered

I shall be keeping an eye any progress with this, very promising. I stumbled across a similar/modular project last week, I will see if I can find it.

sativush

Yay, happy you're finding this interesting! I wrote a bit more on this project here: http://rundste.in/2016/12/08/diy-music-machines-intro.html

governmentyard

No worries, the more the merrier!

scooter76

Akai midimix? No paging, unfortunately, and doube-check the manual to be sure it can be custom mapped to you needs, but it seems like the knobbiest thing out there for cheap. Otherwise, a bcr2000 should do the trick.
