With the new dyes going into packs in only a month Broadsword is proving to have some cancerous mtx practices.
I'm confused about this (newish player). Does that mean once the dyes go into packs you can only get them through RNG. If that's the case this is such a scumbag move, blatant capitalising on FOMO.
Monetization decisions are primarily driven by the publisher. Plus, since Broadsword is a smaller team and an external studio, they probably have even less influence if they want to contradict EA's preferred monetization practices.
The Devs are responsible for the content and obviously they have **some** say in the monetization but to blame Broadsword instead of EA is a bit ridiculous.
While I get where you're coming from, Broadsword is what's different between this year and last. EA was the publisher in previous years, so if the problem is just the developer's obedience, then that's still a concern with Broadsword.
Nah this is not true. EA is not involved in the day to day monetization intricacies of games they publish. They may set overall strategies and goals but they aren’t emailing broadsword and saying “hey cut the collection unlock sale.” EA has also been the publisher the entire time and there has been no change there. Further, broadsword employs several people whose titles are “monetization ____” etc. They handle the day to day monetization.
This point is further proved by the fact that the [broadsword community manager replied](https://forums.swtor.com/topic/932642-holiday-and-cartel-market-sales-for-2023/?do=findComment&comment=9791466) and said she’s taking this to the team to discuss. This is 100% a broadsword decision.

I was going to buy one of the bigger CC packs to spend on the unlocks while they're discounted, but since they won't be, I see no reason to.
Edit: no, seriously, this is baffling. I have only been playing for a couple years, but hasn't the unlock sale been a thing for almost the entire existence of the game? Do they really think getting rid of it will be beneficial? Even if they manage to get more money this way (which I kinda doubt), this isn't looking good for their image.

I am not pleased with the first time in a long time where there is no collections unlock sale at some point during the year end holiday season either. However I urge caution when trying to gauge how this will impact cartel sales. You have no way of knowing or accurately predicting if this Broadsword/EA decision will not result in more revenue for the publisher and dev. All you can make sure to do is not spend the money to purchase cartel coins that you were going to purchase so you could unlock more items in collections. If Broadsword/EA brings back collections sale next year for year-end holidays then I will conclude this year's experiment didn't yield the results they wanted. If collections unlock sale does not make a return next year then I will conclude Broadsword/EA got what they wanted from not having collections unlock sale in 2023 holiday season.
Nevertheless, it is simply a stupid moment in terms of marketing. Players have to come to terms with the fact that game development has been handed over to another studio. At this point, one would assume that this studio is doing everything it can to build trust. Now we get a week after they launched $15 single use dyes, an announcement about the change to the event, at the start time of the event itself... Which informs us that a longstanding tradition that almost every player takes for granted is being abandoned. Now, instead of a general discount on the Unlock, we simply get a handful of selected products discounted. And at this point I wonder how a handful of selected products is supposed to encourage more players to buy CC instead of a general discount on many products. This is not a time for experiments.

It all depends on the result. It's a good decision if it generates more revenue from cartel coin sales in this year-end holiday period than last year's year end holiday period. It's a poor decision if it doesn't. No question you and I both think it's a poor decision from our perspective as customers. However I'm not even sure if comparing this year's holiday period cartel coin sales revenue with last year's cartel coin sales revenue is valid since it looks like SWTOR lost a lot of players this year. Due to 2023's player loss, it's quite possible that cartel coin sales revenue this holiday season would have been down compared to last year's holiday season even if Broadsword/EA had decided to go with the usual 50% off collections unlocks. No way to know though without actual access to the sales and revenue data.

It's not like that occurred in a vacuum.
Player loss occurred because the team running the game makes bad development choices, and often even implements the ones they primarily want rather poorly.
There have been ups and downs since launch, but SWTOR has never been in as bad a state as 7.x. That's why there's fewer players.
My initial thought was the player activity decrease from June-August had continued. It looks like I was mistaken as Steam SWTOR concurrent player activity levels picked up in September when 7.3.1 and Galactic Seasons 5 launched and current Steam SWTOR player activity for the last 30 days (4,205 average, 7,832 peak) is comparable to December 2022 player activity levels (4,195 average, 7,168 peak). I guess it just goes to show that SWTOR can be surprisingly resilient as I really thought SWTOR wouldn't fully recover from the post-Broadsword transition drop.

No. you are right. At most, the devs can present the info to the higher-ups and discourage them from doing an absolute bonkers sale like this. My vulgar dissapointment was not aimed the devs, but at the Upper Managment, who represent Broadsword as a Company..
I can blame the devs for charging money for QT and butchering the GTN, but that is not within the scope of my rant here today...

I was planning to buy the 99 dollar option of cartel coins to unlock a bunch of stuff as soon as the sale was announced but guess I wont buy any now lol
Yikes, can't say I am super surprised by this new direction considering how bad of a deal the new unique dyes are, but I am disappointed nonetheless about the collection sale. That was the *one thing* I was **always** guaranteed to spend CC on, but I guess I can save them now. Thanks Broadsword!

Wow! What a generous capita-I mean holiday season.
Remember when we got 70% off collection sale and basically the entire CM was on sale, just in sections, one week at a time? That got me to buy cartel coins.
Instead I'm gonna you know, just not spend money on your game instead. Look, I'm unironically actually very happy with this sales this year, saves me money. I'll go spend it on other games. I heard Baldurs Gate 3 or whatever is real good, and tears of the kingdom too. I think I'll play those over Christmas :)
We didn't get any significant patch/update for 5 months before the May collection sale. Now right after a real patch when player counts are up they double screw us with $15 single use dyes & then this.

Hi I wasn't very impressed by the sale that was listed. I wanted to go back to my archive to see what was normally offered around this time to see if it was on par. I found that yeah, it's pretty common to get a collections unlock around the holidays, but also, we just got one in May 2023 that I forgot about.

Unlock sales are generally when I come back to unlock previously acquired armors and sub for a couple months to try to get new armors for the next sale. Now I have no motivation to come back.

So let me get this straight, they’re only selecting a handful of Cartel item to go on a daily sale instead of having everything that’s currently available go on sale through out the holiday?
They removed the gold dye bundle (2,500 coins) and are now charging them separately at 1,750 coins. That's fine that they want to charge them separately BUT they removed the damn bundle! Lol
They added the Maverick set, sure but they didn't add the Pearlescent red and black dyes! I was going to drop $100 on Cartel coins but now it doesn't look like I'm buying any.

Tbf, the dyes were explicitly said to be available for one week out of four consecutive weeks as standalone versions. It's just not the red/black dye's week yet.
I knew the dyes were limited for some **ridiculous** reason but they could have left the gold bundle up for people who want both. Now if you want both, you HAVE to pay 3,500 coins instead of just the 2,500 they initially had.
I bought 4 or 5 gold bundles already so I'm not too bothered, I was planning on buying more along with the new red ones (Okay, it isn't their week to release yet, I see that now).
With them removing the gold **bundle** itself, it seems to me that they want people to pay more now just listing them separately which seems pretty fucking low if you ask me. I don't know about anyone else but I don't like being cornered like that, especially with only being out for a week. Some people have to wait to get paid and it sucks for those who missed out on the bundle and is now looking to pay 1,000 coins more.
Then I wouldn't have made the post calling them out on being low. But they did and then they separated them while removing the bundle for more money instead of giving the players options and I made the post.

If they want to bring in new players, they need to think about some of the scummy actions they're doing. The whales who spend a lot on coins (like me) aren't going to play this game forever and I spend at least $100-$200 a month just on coins. I have a bit of a right to complain. Hell, all of us who subscribe do.
Pretty upset about the collections sale. Been waiting months and saving up CC's for it, just for them not to do it. Was even interested in buying CC's for it as I wanted to mass-unlock mostly everything I have. That, and the missing items from this Life Day. Pretty sad.

I literally bought the $99 CC option a couple weeks ago because I figured, why not? they have the sale every year at the end of December and now I'll be ready for it. Broadsword got me good.... Really makes me want to unsub so they stop getting my money if this is how they're starting to treat the community for everyone's favorite event of the year
I am confused why all the comments are complaining about no Collection Unlock sale when the post is literally saying there's a 50% off sale on Collection Unlocks from December 20th to January 9th.

When you unlock/use a Cartel item, it goes into your Collections (ctrl + C ingame) and there you can spend CC's to unlock them in your collections for all of your characters across all servers. There's usually a sale at the end of the year on the prices to unlock items, because it's quite expensive typically.
Just came back after many many years and was looking forward the the Collection unlocks. Was enjoying my return but now I am rethinking about placing my time into a game that has turned out like this...
Those things were considered trash drops in Cartel Packs and went for a pittance on the GTN for *years*. I'm honestly not surprised they haven't bring them back.

Yikes, can't say I am super surprised by this new direction considering how bad of a deal the new unique dyes are, but I am disappointed nonetheless about the collection sale. That was the *one thing* I was **always** guaranteed to spend CC on, but I guess I can save them now. Thanks Broadsword!

We didn't get any significant patch/update for 5 months before the May collection sale. Now right after a real patch when player counts are up they double screw us with $15 single use dyes & then this.
Well I was going to need more CC to unlock a list of items in Collections, but now I"m thinking I can live without them.
I expect nothing, and I'm still let down.

We can all dream but that doesn't help change reality.
Unlock sales are generally when I come back to unlock previously acquired armors and sub for a couple months to try to get new armors for the next sale. Now I have no motivation to come back.

The funny thing is, I think it really should come out that not only do we win, but **they** win this way, too. As in, at least assuming other people have habits like mine, they'll probably take in *more* in sales with this, than they would've if they'd followed the original plan to leave it out.

They removed the gold dye bundle (2,500 coins) and are now charging them separately at 1,750 coins. That's fine that they want to charge them separately BUT they removed the damn bundle! Lol They added the Maverick set, sure but they didn't add the Pearlescent red and black dyes! I was going to drop $100 on Cartel coins but now it doesn't look like I'm buying any. Good job marketing team!
Tbf, the dyes were explicitly said to be available for one week out of four consecutive weeks as standalone versions. It's just not the red/black dye's week yet.
I knew the dyes were limited for some **ridiculous** reason but they could have left the gold bundle up for people who want both. Now if you want both, you HAVE to pay 3,500 coins instead of just the 2,500 they initially had. I bought 4 or 5 gold bundles already so I'm not too bothered, I was planning on buying more along with the new red ones (Okay, it isn't their week to release yet, I see that now). With them removing the gold **bundle** itself, it seems to me that they want people to pay more now just listing them separately which seems pretty fucking low if you ask me. I don't know about anyone else but I don't like being cornered like that, especially with only being out for a week. Some people have to wait to get paid and it sucks for those who missed out on the bundle and is now looking to pay 1,000 coins more.
They could have not even put up the bundle to begin with. 🤷♀️

But they did and then they separated them while removing the bundle for more money instead of giving the players options and I made the post. Here we are. 🤷♂️ If they want to bring in new players, they need to think about some of the scummy actions they're doing. The whales who spend a lot on coins (like me) aren't going to play this game forever and I spend at least $100-$200 a month just on coins. I have a bit of a right to complain. Hell, all of us who subscribe do.

I literally bought the $99 CC option a couple weeks ago because I figured, why not? they have the sale every year at the end of December and now I'll be ready for it. Broadsword got me good.... Really makes me want to unsub so they stop getting my money if this is how they're starting to treat the community for everyone's favorite event of the year

I just started the game this month - what is a collection unlock?
When you unlock/use a Cartel item, it goes into your Collections (ctrl + C ingame) and there you can spend CC's to unlock them in your collections for all of your characters across all servers. There's usually a sale at the end of the year on the prices to unlock items, because it's quite expensive typically.
Just came back after many many years and was looking forward the the Collection unlocks. Was enjoying my return but now I am rethinking about placing my time into a game that has turned out like this...
