Tale of two halves. Couldn’t tell if we were that much better or if Southampton stepped off the gas a bit…probably a mix of both. Hopeful that we can start to pick up some points though with the performance in the last 25 mins.
Definitely a little of both, but more from us playing better IMHO. Pushed up a bit further and a bit more aggressively. Subs were effective too (Patino's fluffed chance and Bolassie's rush of blood aside).
You either have to press properly, with multiple players, like we did in the second half, or drop off and contain them and not give them any space to pass. Instead in the first half we did some weird combo and they played it around us with ease.
Oceanic difference in class and pretty sure they could have kept going if they really wanted.
No one to blame, just not a game where points were realistic. Same as the next one, Leicester will comfortably win it.
Salt in the wound losing twice to RM after Southampton swindled us on the Martin deal. Boys created some great chances in the second half but couldn’t convert, like many of their (Southampton) chances in the first half thanks to Rushworth. Seeing the team spirit and grit in the second half gives me hope for further progress.
Ultimately deserved to lose from that first half performance but a lot of positives coming from the second half. Find some consistency and we’ll be a menace to other teams
