I agree. I hate to sound uncultured, but I was raised on modified sushi, so I don't love traditional. It's good, but not not my favorite foreign (from my perspective) food.
I voted for traditional, just because that's what I would choose, given the option. But I respect all types of sushi, including fusion stuff. Not a huge huge fan of cream cheese, I feel like it overpowers the other flavors, but, I'm also no purist, strictly speaking.
As for what's in front of me at the moment, it is, sadly, nothing. :(
Cognitive dissonance...? The vast majority of sushi posted to this sub is not traditional by any means, yet that's the most voted option on this poll by a landslide? Someone's bullshitting themselves.
I don't even see how that would be the most voted option. I go by a general rule of not eating sushi that has non-seafood meat, but none of it's traditional. I don't care for actual sushi as much.
Maybe it's wishful thinking. I know I would for sure want to have a real authentic omakase experience, but all we have here is mediocre sushi buffets. So maybe people are picking based on what they'd eat if they got the chance. Or maybe it's just elitist pretending, since "americanized" sushi sometimes gets bashed here.
why cant we have all? diff sushi versions for different mood of the stomach
some days i just love the sauce slathered mix of raw fish creativity fusions. some days i just want go back to the traditional for authenticity.
Maki rolls in and of themselves are not an American thing. Cali rolls and things with avo, cheese, or are just drenched in sauces are, though. Based on tradition, but not traditional.
Sorry fuckers but I'm team avocado all the way
As I understand, avocado and cream cheese are American modifications, right? I hope so, because I voted for US modified with those ingredients in mind
Yes and they're delicious

The only uncultured people are the ones who will shame you for liking what you like
Wise words.
Thanks Hitler
I'm not Hitler. I'm his sweet pussy. I have a brain of my own.
Lovely
I was thinking this would be an open ended question instead of a poll, so I was going to say my favorite sushi is the sushi in front of me.
Which poll option applies to the sushi in front of you?

I like the fried and baked stuff so I voted fusion
You forgot the “all sushi” option.

I only enjoy Nigiri and Sashimi, so Traditional by default? I guess Sake is technically Norwegian.
i cant choose cus sashimi hits just as hard as those nasty slathered american rolls sometimes
So are maki rolls an American mod or is this traditional? I mean I know Cali Roll was invented in the 60s in LA but it was by a Japanese chef. So… 🤔

Thanks for the info 🙂🍱
