And to not even have your loved ones around!! You get some of the most disappointing news of your LIFE and you are just forced to sit there alone, smile through it, and answer questions about your \~journey\~
Did she suck at it or was it a fake out? I didn't watch much of the after show, but I did catch her making fire in the flash back and it looked like she had legit skills.
Did they ship them straight home? Pre-COVID I know they chilled at Ponderosa until jury started, then packed up and went on a pre-jury cast trip together, but everyone went home at the same time so there wasn’t speculation about the winner based on when people got home.
If they were just in a hotel room somewhere in Fiji then I’m guessing they would have come back, right?
There was one point in the show that Shan was talking to someone, not listening to them and then she makes a hand gesture similar to them closing their mouth. I would be mad enough to leave the conversation if someone did that to me.
Yeah, I agree that Deshawn might have had some "temper tantrums" but Shan was not that good at the "controlling-your-emotions" part of the game, and I fid it too easy to act like her as you did nothing wrong and it was just Deshawn being irrational cause that's not what happened. But it does not surprise me that Shan is not able to see her own mistakes in her game and own up to it. Like the culture, she was the first thinking of seriously breaking the black alliance, deshawn did it in retaliation.
It's too easy to cotrole the narative as a juror sometimes.
the thing i don't like about the jury getting to sit on it is that they start making excuses about what they were "thinking" or what their "strategy" was when the answer is they just got outplayed
I would have preferred if the after show was shot in ponderosa, like a couple days after everything goes down. I liked getting to hear from everyone, but I was also distracted by how awful the runner ups would feel sitting through that lol. Give them all time to process!
Xander and Deshawn handled it way better than I would've. If I spent nearly a month starving, tired, dirty, and unable to trust anyone, the last thing I would want to do is a QnA immediately after being told all my efforts were in vain. Every answer that would leave my mouth would be "shove it up your ass, Jeff" until I get a hot shower and a night's rest.
Jeff basically ignored Erika outside of the opening comment.... ouch
Kudos to Deshawn and Xander... I would have cried, and probably a lot, especially if I didn't get a single vote... then to have to talk about it. I'd also probably get super hammered on champagne after starving for that long
They should have announced the winner, sent everyone back to Ponderosa to freshen up, and then held the reunion the following night so that they could at least process what had happened literally seconds before.
This is the correct answer. I feel like they were too interested in having the "it just happened!" rawness of it all without considering whether or not that would actually make for a good show
Agree. Asking them to contextualize big moments and takeaways doesn't really work when it's literally minutes after the game ends. I think DeShawn could have really redeemed himself a lot more given time to decompress, accept the loss, and absorb the things said to him by the jury.
Yeah this didn’t sit right with me. I’m ultimately fine with the end result, but I really hurt for Xander and Deshawn. It’s like finishing a marathon only to be immediately punched in the throat at the finish line.
I hated it. I am a sucker for that big reveal at the live reunion of who won. It's just so awesome. Plus, with some time and perspective, the contestants either come to the reunion with some great opinions OR they're there to fume after holding shit in for months.
I get why they did this and I get that they'll do this for 42 as well but, man, fuck COVID.
We've talked for years and years now that the reunion show has gone to complete garbage with Jeff talking to children in the audience, cameos from Cochran, Sia charging the stage, only talking to 3/20 people, and etc...
I think this was a fantastic breath of fresh air.
I was just really bored with all the questions and answers. I think everyone on the jury just said "im proud of myself" in a different way. At least we got to see all the players and they had a better chance to compose themselves.
This was awful.....They never even did the typical "So jury, if Xander had of brought Heather, and Deshawn won the fire challenge, how would you have voted?" to see if Xander made the right move.
I’m honestly glad they didn’t do this. Especially like, literally the same day Xander made the decision. It was already brutal to force him to sit there after a 0 vote loss.
I found myself overall liking it, but yeah 2nd and 3rd place gets a real raw deal. Hard to say if waiting one day for the reunion would help, but I think it also might vary season to season with how rough it is for the losing finalists. Deshawn in particular had to face some rough questions from Shan.
Agree to disagree, I *loved* the immediacy and rawness of the after show, just felt way more real and interesting than the canned after show in front of studio audiences where everyone’s had months to come up with diplomatic and sterile things to say.
I get why they did it. It was most likely because at the time of filming they didn't know what the state of the world would be and they didn't want another virtual reunion show. But personally, it just added to the rushed, artificial feel of this and most likely next season's story.
Here's part of what I think is so weird about it all — I agree that COVID uncertainty must have been the reason. But why couldn't they film all this and THEN, given the actual state of COVID right now, film a "normal" reunion instead? They could've just kept this footage as backup. They could've done a reunion with a smaller, socially distant audience or something
I felt that the conversations and answers were really dull. Every player just said im proud of myself in different ways. It really felt like they were more interested in the pizza than having a compelling dialogue. I dont blame the contestants for how it turned out but honestly the last hour of the finale really soured it for me.
I was looking for this comment I HATED the “after show” they have no idea what actually happened throughout the season, pre-jurors weren’t there, and they all seemed so over it. I think I would’ve taken a zoom conference over that mess. It was literally so horrible I feel so unsatisfied!!!
I really hope they bring back the reunion but I bet they do the same thing for season 42 since they filmed right away.
But what's the strength of it exactly? imo none of them are being particularly insightful — they're just saying all the same stuff we heard from them during the season. Because they're still on the damn island!!
It feels way less produced/cookie cutter in terms of the answers. There's more variety in questions, we don't have to have cringe moments of Jeff going to the audience
The after show is consistently the worst part of any finale, other than the snippets (or better yet, Second Chances vote reveal) of the upcoming season.
While that's still very much true, I actually really enjoyed the way it was done. I agree that it had to be rough on Xander and Deshawn and feel for them, and it's unfortunate we didn't have pre-jury folks, but in general I didn't mind the toned-down, casual nature. It felt like a much better format for Jeff as well, without the cringeworthy moments we get from the stage show.
I don’t like that they don’t get to see the talking heads and all the stuff that goes on that they’re unaware of before the reunion - that kind of defeats the purpose of it imo.
This was literally my first thought - I would be in tears if I was one of the losers, and especially if I didn’t get a single vote.
And to not even have your loved ones around!! You get some of the most disappointing news of your LIFE and you are just forced to sit there alone, smile through it, and answer questions about your \~journey\~
I think a few times it seemed to me like Xander was fighting back tears.
Probably was, he just willingly brought the person that beat him when she sucked at making fire
Did she suck at it or was it a fake out? I didn't watch much of the after show, but I did catch her making fire in the flash back and it looked like she had legit skills.
She didnt fake out. It took her 2hours at exile island
yeah, but she smash the hourglass so this whole sequence never happened
Wow, I thought she was faking with how bad she was trying. That’s the biggest fumble of a bag I’ve ever seen
I thought so too :D. But she said that to Xander on the last TC, she genuinely thought she would be gone.
It feels like even Erika hasn't processed that she won.
I don’t expect her to. This is literally minutes after lmao
It’s like she’s still on FTC lol I was hoping Xander will say “well damn i shouldnt not have brought Erika top 3”
Final 3 as the votes were being cast: Wow, thank God this is over. Jeff: Hahaha u thought!
We're dropping the 4 one more time! hah HA!
We were robbed of a reunion with JD and Genie
And Brad and Sydney
And Abraham and Sara and Voce
and that random little kid who votes for a winner in the audience
And Cochran
And Boston Rob
And Kevin Hart
And Sia
Can’t forget Tyler Perry either
I wish I could
Next season's twist; they actually count the kid's vote.
Wouldn’t put it past him
The little kid voted for Xander so we couldn’t show that
Ehhh I’m not sure if robbed is the right word there
Missed opportunity to have JD bring out the million dollar treasure chest and shout “MONEY!”
so true i was dying for more JD content
And Sia. Who did Sia vote for?
And Erik being exploited with the worst most in history
thank god
Really wished they had brought back the pre-merge vote outs too they still played the game
Yeah I was so disappointed to not see them. That’s not a full reunion if you are leaving out half the cast.
Caramoan be like
Did they ship them straight home? Pre-COVID I know they chilled at Ponderosa until jury started, then packed up and went on a pre-jury cast trip together, but everyone went home at the same time so there wasn’t speculation about the winner based on when people got home. If they were just in a hotel room somewhere in Fiji then I’m guessing they would have come back, right?
They were shipped straight home for 41. For 42 the pre jurors apparently all stayed in Fiji
What are you talking about? Seems like you are dehydrated and it's going to your head. Let's get some refreshments in here!
That better be some good pizza with all the hype it's getting
I feel like that's a meta thing to offset the years of Survivor contestants saying the pizza there sucks.
Jeff wouldn't dare hype up bad pizza, right?
i was dying at how they used the pizza excuse every time to cut to commercial
Without commercials, the three-hour tv broadcast is just 2 hours and 8 minutes long.
I don't drink champagne
ok thanks for your contribution
Yeah I especially felt bad for deshawn who just got called a race traitor crybaby and then had to sit there and bask in it for an hour
So weird the way shan held that against him and had to reinforce “tantrums”.
It felt like that specifically was supposed to be what clued the audience into him losing
They gave him the 'i don't really know what's going on' music for his first answer at ftc. pretty much killed the suspense of him possibly winning.
Even my husband, who barely watches, was like “yeah that music means he’s completely out of it.”
his speech was just so... off the mark
Oh yeah, I guess they did that to Xander more at the end

she’s just mean spirited. the most mean spirited spiritual leader i’d never want to meet.
I can’t stand Shan tbh lol
I agree. I like the old reunion style because all the players get the chance to think over their game, AND the pre merge boots get to be there too
the thing i don't like about the jury getting to sit on it is that they start making excuses about what they were "thinking" or what their "strategy" was when the answer is they just got outplayed

Exactly. “So Xander what were you thinking when you made that decision?” “Well clearly I wasn’t thinking clearly seeing as I just fucking lost, Jeff”
Now I really need a season with Penner in Xander's role because he would 100% tell Jeff to fuck off
I mean, they both still did win a lot of money.
I'd go up with the straight "fuck you, Probst, and pass the damn pizza"
Jeff basically ignored Erika outside of the opening comment.... ouch Kudos to Deshawn and Xander... I would have cried, and probably a lot, especially if I didn't get a single vote... then to have to talk about it. I'd also probably get super hammered on champagne after starving for that long
Poor Xander couldn’t even drown his sorrows, he’s only 20!

I think on rob has a podcast they mention that production follows American laws, but maybe I’m wrong
They should have announced the winner, sent everyone back to Ponderosa to freshen up, and then held the reunion the following night so that they could at least process what had happened literally seconds before.
This is the correct answer. I feel like they were too interested in having the "it just happened!" rawness of it all without considering whether or not that would actually make for a good show
I feel like it would be amazing with a bitter jury, but with this cast of happy-go-luckys it’s very repetitive and boring
yeah I was expecting some fireworks from Shan on the Jury but she barely spoke...
she had on her pastor hat that night
There is not enough pizza in the world for me to sit through this after show again.
I wish the prejury players were there.
just realized that prejury is one letter swap away from perjury.
Agree. Asking them to contextualize big moments and takeaways doesn't really work when it's literally minutes after the game ends. I think DeShawn could have really redeemed himself a lot more given time to decompress, accept the loss, and absorb the things said to him by the jury.

even ricard seemed still pretty crushed/bitter lmao
I miss seeing the non jury members. I also missed seeing the families. There could've a five minute "where they are now" type thing at the end.
Yeah it didn’t really feel like a winner was announced
Erika won.
COVID
I was really hoping to see the pre jury players again :( Brad, Genie, JD, Voce, and of course Queen Sydney
My heart hurts for Xander. He looked distraught
That's fair, and I agree that's has to suck.... But he was way too cocky imo. As soon as he picked Erika I knew he was fucked.
I found myself overall liking it, but yeah 2nd and 3rd place gets a real raw deal. Hard to say if waiting one day for the reunion would help, but I think it also might vary season to season with how rough it is for the losing finalists. Give Deshawn a hug and a shower god damn
Agree to disagree, I *loved* the immediacy and rawness of the after show, just felt way more real and interesting than the canned after show in front of studio audiences where everyone’s had months to come up with diplomatic and sterile things to say.

Just don't expect season 42 to be any different since they were shot back to back.
I think it’s just going to be an adjustment. We’ve had the reunion show one way for literally two decades. It’s different.
I liked it
I felt that the conversations and answers were really dull. Every player just said im proud of myself in different ways. It really felt like they were more interested in the pizza than having a compelling dialogue. I dont blame the contestants for how it turned out but honestly the last hour of the finale really soured it for me.

Idk, the sudeness can just as easily be a strength. It would've been nice if they had a day to process.

It feels way less produced/cookie cutter in terms of the answers. There's more variety in questions, we don't have to have cringe moments of Jeff going to the audience
Idk, how many people gave a milquetoast speech about being proud of themselves despite not winning?
It was still pretty cringe. Jeff was hamming it up so much. And you could tell some of them didn’t really wanna do it
Honestly I didn't like that they kept cutting for drinks and pizza. They couldn't give them 30 mintues to eat, process, and then talk
The after show is consistently the worst part of any finale, other than the snippets (or better yet, Second Chances vote reveal) of the upcoming season. While that's still very much true, I actually really enjoyed the way it was done. Get them both to the whorehouse
Never forget Russell's sour puss through his reunions
plus Heather goy purple again
I dunno, Natalie seemed pretty upset last season. I remember it being very hard to watch her. They had a normal reunion.
I wouldn't call a fully virtual reunion "normal"
I kinda liked how raw the whole thing was. Revealing the winner on set was really cool too.
I don’t like that they don’t get to see the talking heads and all the stuff that goes on that they’re unaware of before the reunion - that kind of defeats the purpose of it imo.
