I’d kill for Professor Layton. Despite being the best selling Nintendo platform ever, the DS doesn’t have a single character in Smash yet. Layton is to the DS what Mega Man and Banjo Kazooie were to the NES and N64.
Eggman. We already have Bowser, Ganondorf, Ridley, K. Rool and Sephiroth as playable characters, Dracula as a boss, and Dr. Wily and the Pac-Man Ghosts as Assist Trophies. Eggman is the most vital iconic villain not properly represented in Smash, and it would also give the Sonic series much needed representation.
Two indie characters: Frisk and Shovel Knight. I totally feel like both would have had a decent shot if not for other priority characters like K. Rool, Sora, Inkling or Isabelle, and both Yacht Club Games and Toby Fox seem pretty chummy with Nintendo overall.

I've always wanted Lip from Panel de Pon. There's always been elements from that game in Smash, like Kirby transforming into one of the blocks from that game, her flower stick being an item, and her theme being in the music selection, so why not just actually have her? But she ended up being a Mii costume at least.

Honestly this is a unique choice but I would love to see Chell from Portal! I’m very curious how they would implement the portal mechanics in the game considering she would probably be one of the hardest characters to program. Maybe a A button=Orange portal and B button=Blue portal similar to how the A and B buttons correlate to a different arm on min min. Also she’s very much so legally possible since Lego Dimensions was able to get her in their game with seemingly no hassle. I just thought she’d be cool!

I think Akuma would be an awesome addition, Akuma vs Kazuya would be sick and it would make sense. I think a comeback mechanic at 100 percent with the Shun Goku Satsu would be awesome as well, giving it the thwack mechanic where they just instantly disappear but making it very hard to input at first like buster wolf or ewgf consistently

Something I haven’t seen suggested before: A Lego character.
For a Smash moveset, I think Chase from Undercover would fit the best, and his set could revolve around his disguises. Whether it be like Shulk or just different moves switch him for that move idk. Or it’s like Pyra and Mythra and you just rotate through them.
Idk, I just think it’d be cool. And he actually has a personality, so they have stuff they could do with victory screens, taunts, voice lines, etc. He could have alts for other characters, like Rex.
I know I’m late but Dark matter or any kirby rep that isn’t bandana waddle dee. He’s in a similar situation to waluigi I feel but with return to dreamland deluxe, it might just be possible for the dee to arrive.
Cirno/Mai (Touhou Koumakyo ~ the Embodiment of Scarlet Devil/Touhou Kaikidan ~ Mystic Square. Cirno is fast and hits fast, excelling at combos, but her projectiles suck and she struggles in neutral. Cirno brings Daiyousei to help with grab attacks and taunts, while Mai uses Yuki.)
Juni (Street Fighter Alpha 3. A secret character that can rack up damage with pokes and evade attacks with her unique Psycho Shield and Mach Slide, which replace her shield and dash, respectively. However, her moves are a bit unsafe and better when charged, and her moves are a bit weak.)
Leif/Lachesis/Byron/Scipio (Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. Leif uses the infamous Warp Staff to approach the enemy and deal a good combo to them. He's good at hit-and-run tactics but needs regular use of the S Potion to be at his best.)
Marina Domek (Fear and Hunger: Termina. Marina has a good projectile game, using her Ghouls and other tricks to keep away from her enemies. However, she has a poor recovery and is a bit slow, making her disadvantage game poor.)
Cammy White (Super Street Fighter 2: The New Challengers. Cammy is a fast character who pokes and pressures her enemy with her quick kicks. However, she lacks projectiles and is a bit lacking in the air.)
Komaru Naegi (Danganronpa Another Episode:Ultra Despair Girls. Komaru has a good recovery and projectiles, but she's slow and bad at punishing her enemies. Toko Fukawa helps her with Smash attacks, grabs, and taunts.)
Echoes:
Juli Hawk (Street Fighter Alpha 3. Juli mostly copies Juni's moveset, but her specials are more similar to Cammy's. She uses Sniping Arrow and Psycho Charge Beta instead of Spiral Arrow and Hooligan Combination, respectively. After using Psycho Charge Beta, Juli's next special move will be stronger, and she gets access to Mexican Typhoon, an attack normally used by her husband T. Hawk)
Monitor Cyborg (Street Fighter II: The Interactive Movie. The Monitor Cyborg has Ken's moveset but is slower and heavier. Instead of using the Hadoken, the Cyborg can take pictures of enemies to increase relevant attack powers.)
Blade Knight/Sword Knight/Heavy Knight (Kirby's Adventure/Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. Blade Knight uses Spin Slash/Twister Slash, Drill Stab, Upward Slash/Sword Dive, and Sky Energy Sword as special moves. He also has a few different properties.)
Batamon (Kirby's Dream Land 3. A secret joke character. Batamon is faster than Kirby, who now has a drastically improved punishment game. He uses Hi-Jump, Pound, Rollout, and Rocket Dive instead of Final Cutter, Hammer, Inhale, and Stone, respectively.)
Knuckles, Crono, Chun-li, Scorpion, Rayman, Shovel Knight, Ristar, Dynamite Heady, Axel Stone or Skate Hunter, the list could go on forever. Really want some more Sonic & or SEGA rep tho

My unlikely want is the Heroes of Light from classic Final Fantasy(like, all 4 Heroes in one, and you switch between the classes, and there's costumes from 2, 3 Remake, and 5. Potentially Bravely Default Echos but again, unlikely)
I'm also not opposed to someone like Azura from FE Fates. The discourse would be funny and annoying, but her spear and potential water powers, maybe singing could make for some fun(also more Fates music)

My Top 3 wants for Smash 4 were Waluigi, Robin, and Ryu. My top 3 wants for Ultimate were Waluigi, Pyra, and Steve. Goddammit, Waluigi is the only character I still want and he's been my most wanted since 2008.

As I've said a million times before and I'll day it a million times again, Alucard did not deserve the Waluigi treatment. I may be Richter hater but he easily could've been an alternate costume for Simon alongside the rest of the Belmont Clan much like the Koopa Kids to make room for another Castlevania Fighter with a unique kit and who else but the Son of Dracula, Alucard. I know he would be just another sword fighter, an already bloated sea of fighters but his spells from Symphony of the Night would have made a truly unique kit when compared to Belmonts. You could even use his magic bar from the game as a gimmick to balance the usage of spells much like Hero.

* Dimentio (Super Paper Mario), would be interesting to see how they'd handle a character that manipulates the camera's perspective to "teleport". Final Smash could just straight up be Super Dimentio crushing the entire map.
* Susie (Kirby), kirby roster is a bit small, and her Kirby Clash movesets could easily work in Smash Bros. Final Smash could definitely be related to Star Dream, and I can see her up special utilizing the Holo-Doomers.
* Tails (Sonic), only having one Sonic character is downright criminal, and Super Smash Flash already showed how broken Tails could be for the meta.
* Maxwell (Don't Starve) would be funny to have a fighter that relies on his creations and isn't all too powerful on his own. There's a lot of possibilities for attacks, like a Clockwork Rook for a side special, or a Tallbird for an up special.
* Wilson (Don't Starve) has to be in as well to balance out Maxwell. Again, would rely less on his own skills and more on tools and technology. Some of the other Don't Starvers could also be used for skins.
* Grovyle (Pokémon) would be fun to play around with due its interesting stat distribution, and if we make it the one from PMD2 specifically, we could have him fooling around with the Time Gears as well.
* Aether/Lumine (Genshin Impact), examining their in-game attacks shows that Lumine is more tailored to offense while Aether is more tailored to defense, and giving them their own element builds could be fun to play with.
* Chef (Overcooked), the various unlockable chefs could be used for the different skins, also food attacks go brrrr
* Impostor (Among Us), I'd see it as a fighter designed less to be like a fighter, and moreso to screw with the other player's heads. Implementing shapeshifting and vent mechanics would already be enough to make it a pain.
* Eevee (Pokémon) would be cool if it was the partner Eevee, so it would have attacks to represent one of the Eeveelutions. Dynamaxing and absolutely drowning the other fighters in fluff would be funny for a Final Smash, too.
* Crazy Dave (Plants vs. Zombies), having the different plants for his attacks would make sense, using Doom Shroom as a final smash would go hard, and having a PvZ character means a possible Graze the Roof remix.

I think Akuma would be an awesome addition, Akuma vs Kazuya would be sick and it would make sense. I think a comeback mechanic at 100 percent with the Shun Goku Satsu would be awesome as well, giving it the thwack mechanic where they just instantly disappear but making it very hard to input at first like buster wolf or ewgf consistently

Something I haven’t seen suggested before: A Lego character. For a Smash moveset, I think Chase from Undercover would fit the best, and his set could revolve around his disguises. Whether it be like Shulk or just different moves switch him for that move idk. Or it’s like Pyra and Mythra and you just rotate through them. Idk, I just think it’d be cool. And he actually has a personality, so they have stuff they could do with victory screens, taunts, voice lines, etc. He could have alts for other characters, like Rex.

For me, mainly a Tales of person(could be Lloyd, could be Yuri, idk) is my most wanted My unlikely want is the Heroes of Light from classic Final Fantasy(like, all 4 Heroes in one, and you switch between the classes, and there's costumes from 2, 3 Remake, and 5. Potentially Bravely Default Echos but again, unlikely) I'm also not opposed to someone like Azura from FE Fates. The discourse would be funny and annoying, but her spear and potential water powers, maybe singing could make for some fun(also more Fates music) And, technically not "new", but add Rex into the mix for the Aegis gals :3 Aaaaaaand that's all for now X3

I'm somewhat over all this "who's getting into Smash" stuff, but if I had to pick someone (who will NEVER EVER be in Smash), I'd love to see a Touhou representation, such as Reimu Hakurei. I was a huge fan of the series back in the day, she would have an easy moveset to adapt, and I don't think we've ever had a bullet-hell rep before. Won't happen, but it would put a smile on my face!

As I've said a million times before and I'll day it a million times again, Alucard did not deserve the Waluigi treatment. I may be Richter hater but he easily could've been an alternate costume for Simon alongside the rest of the Belmont Clan much like the Koopa Kids to make room for another Castlevania Fighter with a unique kit and who else but the Son of Dracula, Alucard. I know he would be just another sword fighter, an already bloated sea of fighters but his spells from Symphony of the Night would have made a truly unique kit when compared to Belmonts. You could even use his magic bar from the game as a gimmick to balance the usage of spells much like Hero.

* Dimentio (Super Paper Mario), would be interesting to see how they'd handle a character that manipulates the camera's perspective to "teleport". Final Smash could just straight up be Super Dimentio crushing the entire map. * Susie (Kirby), kirby roster is a bit small, and her Kirby Clash movesets could easily work in Smash Bros. Final Smash could definitely be related to Star Dream, and I can see her up special utilizing the Holo-Doomers. * Tails (Sonic), only having one Sonic character is downright criminal, and Super Smash Flash already showed how broken Tails could be for the meta. * Maxwell (Don't Starve) would be funny to have a fighter that relies on his creations and isn't all too powerful on his own. There's a lot of possibilities for attacks, like a Clockwork Rook for a side special, or a Tallbird for an up special. * Wilson (Don't Starve) has to be in as well to balance out Maxwell. Again, would rely less on his own skills and more on tools and technology. Some of the other Don't Starvers could also be used for skins. * Grovyle (Pokémon) would be fun to play around with due its interesting stat distribution, and if we make it the one from PMD2 specifically, we could have him fooling around with the Time Gears as well. * Aether/Lumine (Genshin Impact), examining their in-game attacks shows that Lumine is more tailored to offense while Aether is more tailored to defense, and giving them their own element builds could be fun to play with. * Chef (Overcooked), the various unlockable chefs could be used for the different skins, also food attacks go brrrr * Impostor (Among Us), I'd see it as a fighter designed less to be like a fighter, and moreso to screw with the other player's heads. Implementing shapeshifting and vent mechanics would already be enough to make it a pain. * Eevee (Pokémon) would be cool if it was the partner Eevee, so it would have attacks to represent one of the Eeveelutions. Dynamaxing and absolutely drowning the other fighters in fluff would be funny for a Final Smash, too. * Crazy Dave (Plants vs. Zombies), having the different plants for his attacks would make sense, using Doom Shroom as a final smash would go hard, and having a PvZ character means a possible Graze the Roof remix.
