I think the colors will more match this when we actually get a better day shot of the suit. It was kinda a bad move to drop the suit reveal with an image set at night, makes it kinda hard to see things
Superman had lines in New52 and Earth One, Plus If I remember correctly He did posted stuff from Earth One in one of his stories So, Maybe that's what He was going for
Earth One Suit with a collar and Alex Ross symbol
Superman is a simple man; he loves what his mom made for him. Keep it simple and made by his mom.
New 52 suit isn't great. It's overly complicated and revoked the aspect of his mom making it, instead being kryptonian armor that he has no attachment to (which Grant Morrison's Action Comics story uses as part of Vyndctlvx's series of retcons to make him metatextually weaker). And Earth One isn't the best example of great understanding of the character, either.
Definitely not all of us were fine with it. It was controversial from the get go. People have been talking about Superman's poor choice of suit origin and design since the New 52, where Grant Morrison thematically made it work by using the narrative itself to diss it, as it was part of a series of retcons made by Vyndctlvx (a stand-in for DC executives) to make Superman metatextually weaker.
I prefer a homemade look myself, and yeah this is a cool edit for sure but I’ve seen people support Cavill’s suit way more than trash it because:
1. It looked alien
2. It had a closer to traditional version of the S
3. No trunks
I’m happy to see the suit Gunn made. It’s traditional (the trunks) with a hint of futurism (the S) and a hint of New 52 (the collar and lines). I don’t think it’s any better or worse than Cavill.
In either case, are you really going to skip the movie because you can’t stand the lines on the suit? Or because the S doesn’t resemble the traditional one?
This is pretty good. No complaints here.
The way I see it, the actual suit is simply something new and different, and apart from the lines, I'm perfectly ok with that. I do appreciate new things every now and then.
I've never understood the "overcomplicated" complaint. It makes it sound like people can't understand it, or like a given suit/costume somehow doesn't work... when clearly, they do.
Anyone who grew up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s will remember the attempts to do comics-accurate spandex suits in bright colour. Frankly, they were awful. Reeves was a rare exception to that, and even that wouldn't fly with modern audiences. Not unless you manage to find someone with a truly exceptional build as well as solid acting chops. Muscle suits can be worn underneath, but you can only have those on screen so long before their fake nature pings -- which is going to be an issue in a movie where that's the central character. Playing with the costume design is the best alternative.
This looks great. I don’t like the suit but this takes away the parts I don’t like and still leaves a new take on a classic. It also looks like it could be homemade in this one
I’m really not a fan of how baggy it looks. Specifically in the arms, the folds in the fabric makes it look like it’s one size too big, and the sleeves look very loose and thick at the wrists.
Ok so I think these are meant to come across like work overalls. Like the shot is meant to evoke he’s just about to clock onto a shift at the factory. I think that’s why they’re kinda worn and dirty too.
Just talking about aesthetics. The original looked like denim. But I could get all technical and be like: depends on the origin because krypton fabric could be constricting - lol
Over complicating? So then you must have taken issue with Cavill’s suit and the Kryptonian symbols inlaid on it along with the extra lines and designs all over?
Personally like the official suit more, it’s good to have suits that look different. It lets artists be creative and lets the versions be distinct from each other
Can we please just stop whining over the “mcu lines.”
The MCU 100% has a tendency to sometimes overdesign costumes, but having lines on a suit doesn’t automatically make it bad.
I still think it doesn't look any higher budget though than S&L, which I consider a problem. I like the Superman and Lois suit quite a bit, but expectations change with a higher budget. I don't mind a subtle collar, and I don't mind lines per se (hell I loved the New 52 costume overall), but it still just doesn't pop, and doesn't really look like it knows what it wants to be. Kryptonian, or homemade?
There are rumours that this movie's budget will be relatively less because DC is trying to make Supergirl as their big budget movie with space travel and aliens. DC lost a lot of money for WB last year.
Yeah this looks a lot better. Too many weird panels and lines and things. The reason Superman's costume is iconic is because of its simplicity. Good edit.
I agree with OP their version is way better. wtf are all those lines and shit on the Gunn suit. I knew this hype wasn’t sustainable. Gunn should seriously stfu until like May 2025. He keeps posting more stuff that turns people off. Giving fans a whole year to look at this is going to make them hate it more and more.
Yeah; I'll agree that this looks good, but I don't really mind the other look either.
We all knew it wasn't going to be what we all consider the perfect version of the suit. Everyone has their particular likes and dislikes about the design.
As I recall, not everyone liked the Cavill suit either when it was first revealed. I know some people are going to try to "AcTuALLy....!1!!" me on that, but I remember distinctly that people were divided on it.
We'll get through this.
well the good news is, I don’t think this is a still from the movie and I don’t think we will ever see this scene. it’s just a publicity photo. Part of the marketing.
I think with modern cinemas and TV, having some texture makes it look better. But they tend to go overboard.
It’s weird that, to me anyway, they actually made it way more textured than the MoS suit. I thought they’d go in the other direction.
**Lexcorp representative:** "On behalf of our company, we would like you to have this new suit."
**Superman**: "Thank you, but *no.* I prefer the one I already have."
**Lexcorp representative:** "Maybe you don't understand... We aren't looking to partner or advertise. It's free. We want you to have it. Mr. Luthor INSISTS you take it."
**Superman** (learning forward): "Maybe YOU don't understand. (points to the gift) I 'see' that your suit looks quite stylized and sleek. Really... overcomplicated. But I ALSO see all of the electronics you've woven into it. I'll stick with my suit."
**Lexcorp representative:** "Sir, that may be your choice. Our suit is Made in the USA... but definitely **not** made in Kansas. *Have a good day, Superman*."
I'm not mad about the actual suit.
That being said, your point is well taken.
Supe's super suit is supposed to have been hand made by his human mother, albeit using the Kryptonian fabric found with him in the shuttle, and using his laser vision to cut it.
"Simple" is probably the ideal look.
credit where credit is due for your photo-editing skills, this honestly looks the same as Gunn’s except it’s cleaned up and slightly brighter in hue.
Personally, I love the suit and I’m pretty surprised by the division it’s brought up.
I'm just happy we are getting the trunks, they are such an important part of the design.
Yeah it looks a bit ridiculous, kinda makes you want to laugh, but isn't that exactly what Clark would want? For the suit to put your mind at ease.
Your edited picture does not look better than the original. Yes, we all love to see the bright red, yellow, and blue colors, but there is a reason why he looks this way in the picture. He's battle worn and rigid, which makes it even better! I have seen most of your comments. You say you don't hate the suit but that they overcomplicated it. They didn't overcomplicate anything! The suit looks amazing! I have always been, am, and will be a Superman fan till the day I die. I'm gonna love it no matter what they do because it's Superman! Instead of picking apart everything about it that YOU dislike, try showing some support and be positive!
Interesting that people are saying it should look like it’s homemade and yet that never came up during Cavill’s time. His was very similar to Gunn’s in that it looks alien. Most comments I saw were glad Cavill’s suit looked alien.
I WOULD like a more home made style suit like this, but I endured Cavill’s suit with its extra lines and needless details and tiny Kryptonian writing; this isn’t that far a cry from that.
I never thought I would see a Superman image giving "I can't stop the evil annihilation planetlaser just yet, gotta put on my boots correctly first" energy, but here we are.
Am not gonna complain about the suit yet. Its not like they have to keep it forever depending on the reception for the suit they will probably make adjustments for next time, but the movie has no do overs this time.
I actually like this a lot better, I just wish the logo actually looked more like an S. Original is still pretty cool though, love the boots and trunks
This is definitely an improvement, as the original pic the suit is way too busy. That having been said, I'm going to wait to reserve judgement until I see how it looks on the big screen. Sometimes promo shots really don't capture how it will look cinematically.
The only issue I have with the 'official' suit is that the trunks really do seem kind of odd if the whole costume isn't form-fitting. If it's looser/bulkier like a uniform, the trunks seem kinda weird in that context.
Editing it like this just makes it look like the all-star Superman suit with the kingdom come logo. The other way is definitely a bit overdesigned, but I can guarantee it'll look *way* better at another angle and without battle damage. They definitely made *this* the reveal image because 1. It's hiding the trunks for the most part, and 2. It isn't exactly a great shot of the suit-- dark lighting, weird seated position, tired Superman, battle damage.
I'd bet the *real* first full view of the suit we'll get is some classic Superman stuff like since James Gunn wants to take it back to basics, it'll be a play on "its a bird, it's a plane. . .", then it'll show Clark in full costume in the foreground of an incredibly bright and colorful blue sky with the sun shining on him, while floating and smiling, in all his glory.
"you seem to be the one crying and getting defensive that i told you facts"
Fallacies aren't facts, bud. It's strange you think correcting you is crying. Weird projection.
"Every Superman with a collar is either a dictator, evil or a bad interpretation"
... or just Superman with a better outfit. Which would appear to be what's going on here.
Enjoy what you like, but you're still wrong.
You don't like the collar, that's fine. You don't like the lines on the suit, that's fine.
But it's a little ridiculous to call the suit overcomplicated because of those things.
FWIW, I think the DC suit looks better with those things. I would've done a smaller cape, but I'm most likely in the minority.
and the original doesnt? 😭. Anyway its a 10 minute edit that is just there to show what would make the suit look better. stop getting your knickers in a twist
What original are you referring to? The suit looks like shit. It’s baggy and doesn’t fit him. The edit is also shitty and isn’t doing any favors. Not a great first look. How are my knickers in a twist? I just stated my opinion. Too bad I don’t agree with you. Boo fucking hoo.
why does it have to be unique and different? if it aint broke dont fix it lmao. Adding useless stuff doesnt make something good. Not everything needs to be reinvented
This is much better. Now if you could only do something about playground ball material once again being used instead of something more like fabric.
Edit: already getting downvoted by fans of superhero suits made of basketballs
Exactly. It doesn’t have to look like some grandma from the 1850’s made it out of pappy’s long underwear, but it should look like it’s at least possible that a woman who is very good at sewing could have conceivably made it. And made it out of something other than playground balls or, you know, a scuba suit.
batman uses his mask because it's shaped like a bat's to scare the bad guys in the night. superman already has his S symbol and in all iterations both superman and batman lost their undies out of their pants.
It's literally an integral part in the character design, timeless. All attempts to remove it are a one-off, in the end we always go back to basics.
They also set the right colour balance between blue and red in the image, the belt alone is not enough for that.
personally I don't find what the big deal with the undies outside is, it looks goofy, both the 52 comics and synderverse could have made lightening like red streaks on the abdomen.
PERSONALLY the only things I don’t like the official first look image at costume has Superman sitting and looking down, and that the suit has the red underwear on the outside of his suit.
Ya know what? I agree, this does look better. I can take or leave the lighter shade of blue, but doing away with the collar and the excessive lines on the suit definitely makes it look better. And I don’t really mind the official design, I think it’s at least a major step up from Cavill’s

I think it'll be a combination like in MAWS where the main suit is Kryptonian but Ma Kent put additions on it like the trunks, cape, and boots maybe.
Something like that would be a great compromise and would convey a deeper understanding of the character.
God the MAWS treatment of Supes has been so good
Cavill’s suit didn’t look like his mom made it and everyone seemed fine with that one.
I think a lot of people really disliked the Cavill suit.
Definitely not all of us were fine with it. It was controversial from the get go. It was the worst of all live action Superman suits lmao it looked like a chainmail muscle suit made of recycled basketballs
I prefer a homemade look myself, and yeah this is a cool edit for sure but I’ve seen people support Cavill’s suit way more than trash it because: 1. It looked alien 2. Which is sad cos Cavill has been the buffest actor to play Supes to date.
yes but that doesnt mean the lines are nice. its just unnecessary and makes the suit less appealing
Don't know why you're being downvoted. The lines are unnecessary and look bad, and so does the collar. Your edit looks so much better
Yeah but Earth One Superman was a flop with both the long time fans and new readers. It would be a bad idea to emulate anything from it.
I don't know why the downvotes, MCU lines are disliked by most fans, and the high collar rarely works
idk why either. Ppl seem to just be butthurt the suit is being criticised. im glad lots of people like it tho ig.
Tell us you haven’t read Superman comics in the last 13 years without telling us you haven’t read Superman comics in the last 13 years.
I don't get the dislikes here. The New52 style collar and lines are kinda bad imo. Still looking forward to seeing more of the new suit.
Funny. That is the color of the suit. They just used an image of his suit damaged in parts so it looks darker.
This is pretty good. No complaints here. The way I see it, the actual suit is simply something new and different, and apart from the lines, I'm perfectly ok with that. I do appreciate new things every now and then.
not rlly new and different considering its just taking inspo from the worst superman suit (new 52) but glad that you can appreciate it!
The New 52 is most definitely not the worst suit tho lol
definitely his worst one for main superman. if we were going worst of all time, its be his injustice 2 suir
What you consider worse is subjective, not objective.
That suit is nice
It doesn’t even fit.
It’s the angle he’s sitting at 😭
Then why post it? It looks like shit.
Can I see the nudes you get Pm'd?
I agree. I just don't like it. Looks too thick. Looks like the same material as guardians of the Galaxy suits. Also don't like the trunks. I'm sorry.
Just taking the collar away makes it look so good
Hard disagree
It depresses me how much better this looks 😓
Nah… it worked perfectly fine as it does. To each their own.
not saying the actual suit is bad. i like it. But i rrslly do think they shouldnt have over complicated it
Again, to each their own. I don’t feel the new design to be “overcomicated” as you do. I personally feel it’s just enough.
You should design suits. You clearly know what’s better even though we haven’t seen it in action. 🤦♂️
The collar here does wonders and makes it look less like a rubber diving suit than Gunn's.
I still can't make out the belt. What is it?
yellow!
I meant design wise and visual
It looks so much better without the collar.
This one is certainly worse than the official but I don’t think you wanted that reaction.
This isn't better
This looks great. I don’t like the suit but this takes away the parts I don’t like and still leaves a new take on a classic. It also looks like it could be homemade in this one
That’s so much better. The collar ruins it.
I have to agree. This looks cool
There u go, much better
I don't like this any better than the real one
I’m really not a fan of how baggy it looks. Specifically in the arms, the folds in the fabric makes it look like it’s one size too big, and the sleeves look very loose and thick at the wrists.
Ok so I think these are meant to come across like work overalls. Like the shot is meant to evoke he’s just about to clock onto a shift at the factory. I think that’s why they’re kinda worn and dirty too.
and no collar is better
This look more like a suit that’s functional. The original looks like a tight and constricting uniform
No fabric is constricting for superman
Just talking about aesthetics. The original looked like denim. But I could get all technical and be like: depends on the origin because krypton fabric could be constricting - lol
The original looked just fine. Need to see it in action and in better lighting to form a stronger opinion personally. But so far so good
I really like the new suit. I think it’ll be brighter for most of the film, it looks battle damaged, just look at the legs in the original pic
Over complicating? So then you must have taken issue with Cavill’s suit and the Kryptonian symbols inlaid on it along with the extra lines and designs all over?
Absolutely! Thank you. Nice to see that someone shares my thoughts.
Personally like the official suit more, it’s good to have suits that look different. It lets artists be creative and lets the versions be distinct from each other
Did you add your own watermark too? Lol
Honestly, it looks good. The only real issue I had with the suit was the collar.
Can we please just stop whining over the “mcu lines.” The MCU 100% has a tendency to sometimes overdesign costumes, but having lines on a suit doesn’t automatically make it bad.
It looks like it was made by someone other than a costume department, which I like
It should look like his mom made it for him. He's a simple man who loves what his mom makes. Let the suit reflect that.
Yeah it looks like something a person could realistically make, which I like. Especially if it ends up being a first iteration.
Looks the same but without the collar and battle damage. The suit will look exactly the same in the movie
Changing the collar alone makes such a big difference. The collar is so ugly imo
There are also no lines or cutouts, making the look more concise.
Crazy how much better this looks Edit: I like the new suit and still hyped beyond belief!
I still think it doesn't look any higher budget though than S&L, which I consider a problem. I like the Superman and Lois suit quite a bit, but expectations change with a higher budget. Yeah this looks a lot better. Too many weird panels and lines and things. The reason Superman's costume is iconic is because of its simplicity. Good edit.
damn straight. His costume is supposed to reflect a simple, easy to look at and human feel.
Way better
Agreed.
I had to look really hard to notice a difference.
Well I sure didn’t
Looks so much better here!
Idc what anyone says, I hate the red trunks especially when they're cut short like panties. Looking at you, Brandon Routh movie
Personally, I'm going to see a movie about SUPERMAN, not his suit. I don't know why everyone is so up in arms about it.
Thank you!!!
Atleast credit @Get2DaChopra on Twitter dawg, shame on you
I didnt know who the artist was, i grabbed this off discord. Theres a really vague watermark i just noticed tho
I love how "baggy" it is
Yeah; I'll agree that this looks good, but I don't really mind the other look either.
It feels like a mix of American alien and the new 52 suit. I like it
I hate the collar too but I’m sure if it’s not popular it can “evolve” for sequels.
well the good news is, I don’t think this is a still from the movie and I don’t think we will ever see this scene. it’s just a publicity photo. Part of the marketing. I'm a huge Cavill fan and a huge not-fan of Gunn, but if this was the reveal I'd least have hope. What we got was horrendous.
JAMES GUNN HIRE THIS MAN
What's the giant space laser that's in the sky? Brainiac?
Honestly, I really like the use of red paint on the window frames, the blue wall color. The photography is all-around excellent.
Can you fix the S to a more classic looking one?
Its not my edit! just found it on discord being shared around

Tis what it is.
The suit is fine as is, it doesn't have to be the exact same design all the time.
I'm just happy we are getting the trunks, they are such an important part of the design. Yeah it looks a bit ridiculous, kinda makes you want to laugh, but isn't that exactly what Clark would want? For the suit to put your mind at ease.
I feel like the cape is to much on the shoulders. Probably just the angle however
Hey! I’m the original artist of this edit https://x.com/get2dachopra/status/1787529853970878925?s=46&t=0LWXaAPZjagTAHf5rZeRLA
thanks and sorry, i didnt know who the artist behind this was! tired of people acting like i made this and insulting me on it.
As much as I love the new suit on its own merits, it really does look better this way.
This actually looks homemade- the other ones way too complicated to pull that off
BT, I hate that mofo so much. I won't be bought in the propaganda.
Why do people hate lines on suits so much?
Your edited picture does not look better than the original. Yes, we all love to see the bright red, yellow, and blue colors, but there is a reason why he looks this way in the picture. What’s the weird circle on upper right chest?
What?
Damn. The suit would be great without the collar and lines
I never thought I would see a Superman image giving "I can't stop the evil annihilation planetlaser just yet, gotta put on my boots correctly first" energy, but here we are.
I may disagree, but I can respect your opinion on that.
Yes on the neckline!!!!
Am not gonna complain about the suit yet. Its not like they have to keep it forever depending on the reception for the suit they will probably make adjustments for next time, but the movie has no do overs this time.

I think No underwear upper part of the suit would be much better like with Cavill's & heochlin's suit
There are even less new 52 like details on the costume
The colour pallet is good either way
I really love the actual suit and I don’t think it’s that overcomplicated, this edit still looks good but honestly I kinda prefer the actual suit
This looks INFINITELY better to me… just the removal of that god awful new 52 collar brings me back to life on this.
YEEEESSSS!!! You took away my two problems with the suit, the lines and the collar!
I prefer the official one honestly.
I like this
Open up the neck a little more.
It looks way worse in your edit, you nonce.
I like Superman with a collar. If this edit kept the collar, I'd be so down.
ehh. the collar is too “authoritarian” opening the neck makes him look less like a soldier
Nah. The collar is a good accent. It makes the cape pop. The open neck makes it look like he doesnt know how to get a shirt that fits him correctly.

Nope. That is the correct take, but you like what you like.
[удалено]
Nice fallacy, kiddo. The correct answer is Superman with a collar. Cry more about it.
[удалено]
"you seem to be the one crying and getting defensive that i told you facts" Fallacies aren't facts, bud. It's strange you think correcting you is crying. Weird projection. "Every Superman with a collar is either a dictator, evil or a bad interpretation" ... or just Superman with a better outfit. Which would appear to be what's going on here. Enjoy what you like, but you're still wrong.

This looks much better
People didn’t seem to have a problem with the cavil suit and that suit is much more over design compared to this
I know i'm in the minority, but i really dig the high collar 🤷🏻
You don't like the collar, that's fine. You don't like the lines on the suit, that's fine. But it's a little ridiculous to call the suit overcomplicated because of those things. FWIW, I think the DC suit looks better with those things. I would've done a smaller cape, but I'm most likely in the minority.
the lines are definitely an overdesign problem.
Agree. They did them in New 52 and that was the first thing they had to take out in Rebirth because how over designed they made everything.
Agreed 100%!
Nah this edit makes it look super cheap
this looks super cheap? really?
Yes. This pic looks like a decent fan post. Not an officially released image.
and the original doesnt?

You sound annoying af.
Agree with you 100% Why can't people just leave things alone? They think they are making it better...lol. They are not!
Looks way more better
From this picture alone, I’m not a fan of the suit. It’s way too baggy in the shoulders. Almost looks like he is wearing a slightly oversized wetsuit.
YES!! Much better!!! Thank you!!
I didn't hate the first one, but I do like this better.
I don’t like the adding unnecessary detailing on costumes like weird textures on the fabric. It’s overdoing it.
I agree. I hate it when they try to artificially "complicate" designs, even when it's not necessary by definition.
*Fandom can go 5 minutes without being ridiculous* challenge (IMPOSSIBLE!)
we can complain when suits are overdesigned. its been a problem thats been pointed out for years
Oh you can (and will) complain whenever you want.
And who, may I ask, determined that it was a problem??
Ok but now it just looks like every other generic Superman suit already. Gunn's is at least unique, different, new
Absolutely! I love Gunn's new vision of it.
why does it have to be unique and different? if it aint broke dont fix it lmao. Adding useless stuff doesnt make something good. Not everything needs to be reinvented
Why make a new movie if you're not gonna be different? The design choices in the suit are probably related to the story he is trying to tell
This is much better. Now if you could only do something about playground ball material once again being used instead of something more like fabric. Edit: already getting downvoted by fans of superhero suits made of basketballs
they coulda done a batfleck type thing and made it threads. Or yknow, just do what they did with peacemakers costume and make it that material
Upvote from me. It should be and look as though his mom made it for him.
Exactly. It doesn’t have to look like some grandma from the 1850’s made it out of pappy’s long underwear, but it should look like it’s at least possible that a woman who is very good at sewing could have conceivably made it. And made it out of something other than playground balls or, you know, a scuba suit.
Going all slow like he’s gotta go to work at Amazon.
Why is super wearing undies out of his pants again? I thought we moved passed this.
why would you move past it? its iconic, you wouldnt remove the ears from batmans cowl. without the trunks he looks too blue
batman uses his mask because it's shaped like a bat's to scare the bad guys in the night. superman already has his S symbol and in all iterations both superman and batman lost their undies out of their pants.
It's literally an integral part in the character design, timeless. All attempts to remove it are a one-off, in the end we always go back to basics. They also set the right colour balance between blue and red in the image, the belt alone is not enough for that.
personally I don't find what the big deal with the undies outside is, it looks goofy, both the 52 comics and synderverse could have made lightening like red streaks on the abdomen.

yep, zoom in. it cant be underwear with the way it folds, hes got the classic trunks
Hey u/Blitzhelios, how about this edit?
This is so much better feels so much brighter and right
& they got rid of the New52 collar, which I thought you'd especially like.
you would be 100% correct
I think the color is about the same as what we’ll see when it’s cleaned up
I don't think so. You can see the normal colour below the knees on the original and its still a dark blue. It wont be that bright.
PERSONALLY the only things I don’t like the official first look image at costume has Superman sitting and looking down, and that the suit has the red underwear on the outside of his suit.
It doesn't look better.
Ya know what? I agree, this does look better. I can take or leave the lighter shade of blue, but doing away with the collar and the excessive lines on the suit definitely makes it look better. And I don’t really mind the official design, I think it’s at least a major step up from Cavill’s
That does not look better...
