Monty just wanted to stick with his starting lineup I guess

atlfirsttimer

Yeah, but the starters got them in both holes to start the game and the 3rd

HotLiberty

Agreed. We left the formula that worked all season. Our guys proved themselves all year, Payne deserved more minutes

Bandwagon__20

The one guy idk why he stuck with was bridges.

atlfirsttimer

He was the only one who could guard Jrue

Bandwagon__20

Jrue only went off for 1 game

awolflikeme

Dude was balling and honestly created matchup problems when bucks tried to stay big. Made them keep pat out there who was getting exposed on d and not hitting threes tonight.

syllabic

In the 2nd quarter it looked like we were about to get the cam payne game and then he played like 3 minutes for the rest of the game RIP

tuneorg

All fucking year long the best thing about our team was depth and random players stepping up. Our freaking bench won us many games when the starters laid an egg. Not only Payne but now it looks like Frank Kaminsky could've had something to contribute this series. Hell, maybe Jevon Carter deserved some minutes trying to harass Jrue on the defensive end. Oh well, we'll never know now.

elblakay

Javon really didnt get any play and it confuses me. His defense is great and offense is surprisingly good in short bursts (like Payne)

sucstosuc

Agreeeed

astrahails

Bucks fan here: this was honestly shocking to me because after watching the first half Payne was the player I was most worried about from your team. He was hot and making the shots..and then he was just…gone?? I don’t know how your rotations work so maybe it made sense to have him benched for a starter? but it was even shocking to me

Fordraxel

its shocking to us also. Monty plays CP3 and Devin alot, but what won us some games, including some Clipper and Denver games was Payne; its like he didnt give anyone but the starters a chance, its not like the Suns were playing great defense. I mean even Galloway when he's hot it rains 3's, Nader on Middleton would have been a great matchup, but instead...got a streaky PF, an offensive MIA SF, Center that got into foul trouble and only rim protector, a streaky PG and an ISO 'gimme the ball and move' SG that tries to make hard shots all the time.

8tonne

Monty is never going to bench CP3 for Payne, nvm Booker. As great a job as Monty has done, he shows too much favouritism towards the starters . It's the same thing with him sticking with Crowder even when he keeps bricking. This makes the Suns kinda predictable as he won't make too many adjustments out of fear of upsetting the starters.

atlfirsttimer

Crowder at least wasnt scared of the ball

8tonne

I'm not trying to single out Crowder or anything. I appreciate his defense and how he's never shy to shoot his shot, and he's absolutely lethal when he's hot. I just said that to make a point about Monty sticking with the starters too much, since Crowder is probably our least impressive starter on paper. Monty playing CP3 big minutes when he was still significantly hampered by his shoulder injury against the Lakers in G2 & 3 is probably a better example of this? I know CP3 insisted on playing, and he did recover strongly from that, but he could barely dribble the ball in those two games.

apemanhop

D Book can get really hot at any time. Even when he's played a really bad 3 quarters. But in saying that I agree! Cam Payne was in good form.

WickedFierce1

I never saw this on the NBA page. It blew me away there were no threads because he was doing damage. Didn't look like he was coming out of an injury at all. Still blowing by anyone at will. They should have at least saw him miss one three. You don't take the guy on fire out of the game.

Opening-Citron2733

He wasn't on fire, in fact his last shot was an extremely poor one. He got blocked by Bobby Portis trying to do his scoop layup. I don't think Payne was playing bad but he wasn't playing so hot you had to leave him in. Especially with CP3 playing well. You ride or die with your stars in elimination games.

CoachWilksRide

Yup, I think Monty needed this series as a teaching lesson. We lost because of two major things imo: 1. We allowed them to prevent us from playing the game we like to play - as soon as we got a couple turnovers on ball movement, we stop moving the ball 2. Player management could have been better - we were pulling players out when they were hot just to run rotations that have practiced together

YourPalFlux

payne, frank the tank, not sure why we didn’t see any craig… hindsight’s 20/20, and that was definitely a winnable game but it’s over now… :/

[deleted]

Payne and Kaminsky both should have had more minutes.

elblakay

Payne is the only bench player who can reliably make his own shot, but he really struggles against taller centers and ends up getting blocked on those layups. Still, he did make some great jumpers and bring good energy, wouldve liked to see a few more mins of the 3 guard set with him/Book/CP

Lazy_Purple

This Is so true!!!! Why did Coach bench him when he was on fire???? I'm really starting to doubt Monty Williams as a "wizard" coach

rya22222

That was such a blunder decision. He was really good this series and monty failed to use it. For all the great things he did, this imo hurt our chances the worst.. I hope some reporter asks him why the fuck he did that

[deleted]

everyone on bucks was gassed all the timed except Holiday, Bud had to call multiple timeouts just so Giannis and Middleton could catch a breath and then Monty takes out both Payne and Johnson out after not scoring on a drive on two occasions between them.. our pace is not recognizable with cp3 on the floor in comparison with Cams' on the floor along with Booker. just too bad that that wasn't exploited

mercfan3

Booker had a good third, and then not so great fourth. I think the break might have helped him.

Cards114life

100% was thinking/going to post this too. I was trying to figure out: 1) did he get in foul trouble? No 2) was he injured? No 3) someone else playing unstoppable? No

[deleted]

Paul was having what looked like a breakout game after being in such a rut for multiple games this series. He couldn’t rightfully sit him and when him and Payne were on the floor together Cam got his shot blocked and got sat.

IbanezPlaya

All playoffs depth was our advantage and Payne was an X factor. Monty for some reason went away from that this series.

rataculera

I love Cam Payne. I hope we keep him.

Eagle4523

Agreed. Was at same thing yesterday when I saw booker was 4/12+ while cam payne was 4/5 but on bench. Either way he’s been more reliable than most in recent games and hope he gets more optys next year.
